    Just picked this up used. Fantastic amp at reasonable volumes. I modded mine by removing the wood panel from behind the front grate. Looks sick and helps with keeping it cool because the amp runs like a toaster oven.

    1st of all, LOVE your channel! Your demo's and breakdown are always honest and spot on. I appreciate you bro! I've been an owner of the original 5150 for a loooong time, purchasing it new back in the day. It's serviced me well for recordings and lots of live shows. A few years back, I purchased the 6505MH for home use and it's been great. This past weekend, I finally decided to use it for a club show, paired with a mic'd Jet City 1/12. It was fantastic, all the gain and sustain was there. It wasn't a bassy/ballsy as it's bigger brother but still sounded good and overall seemed to cut through the mix better. When you also factor in the weight and size (especially at my age :-)) it's really a no-brainer and I plan to use it going forward. So if anyone is on the fence, I would say go for it, especially if paired with a closed back cab. Thanks again, have a great week.

    Awesome as always Euge! I kinda prefer the less lows, more mid bark of the EL84 mini head in this video. Generally I'd say more lows and tight response the better, but this would work great for normal tuned guitar stuff just fine.
    Actually the boosted low tuned stuff worked well too. Probably nicer to fit in a mix vs the big 120 watt version.

    Hello! Awesome demo, thank you. Amp and player sound killer!
    I have a chance to buy this second hand and I would use it in the context of a rock cover band with several levels of gains required. I am looking for a more portable amp than my current rig (JCM 800 + 4-cone cabinet).
    I am looking for feedback from someone who uses the amp in a similar context to mine (non-bedroom scenario) and I wonder how loud would this be in rehearsal.
    The drummer is not particularly loud, but we do play some loud-ish clean songs.
    How well would the clean channel cut through the mix without breaking up?
    And how well would the overdriven channel cut through the mix?
    Not concerned about live, as it'd be mic'd.
    Thank you.

    Hey Euge, can I ask a beginner question? Why not crank the volume on the 100 watt amp and let the power tubes do their thing? Since there is no cab attached, volume isnt a factor. the signal is just going to the load box, which can handle the 100 watt. what am I not getting here?

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  Před 2 lety +1

      Sure 😎. The difference between the input gain signal to the reactive load & audio interface would be so big that when set correctly for the 20 watt amp it would clip with the 120 watt one and when set correctly with the 120 watt amp it’d be so low for the 20 watt amp that it would hardly record any audio.

    • @saadshah7857
      @saadshah7857 Před 2 lety

      @@EugeValovirta230V oooh ok. I understand now. The issue is having two amps connected to the same load box at the same time. That makes sense.
      If it was just one amp at 100 watts, we could crank the volume all the way into the load box and it wouldn't matter. We would get all the power tube goodness.

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  Před 2 lety +1

      Indeed. That’s what I do and there’s a reason I have mostly 100 watt amps 😎. Well my Plexi is a 50 watt (I like it more than a 100 watt), the 5150 is 120 watt and the Boogie Mark V is a 90 watt.

    • @rangerdoc1029
      @rangerdoc1029 Před rokem +2

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  Před 2 lety +2

      They’re really close nowadays but ”driving” a real thing is always a real thing. Kinda like it’s cool to have a video game with, let’s say, about Mustang Shelby but it’s quite a difference to drive a real one. I’ve done both 😎.

      My DSL20 definitely has more oomph than my Rectoverb 25 . I probably never play them loud enough for the el84 amps power tubes to fall apart. Neither amp seem to get a whole lot louder past noon on the volume knob. Neither of them are technically a master volume amp either . I definitely prefer the bigger bottle el34 but honestly don’t think most will ever get to the volume levels to experience the short comings of the smaller power tubes . Euge gets his sound out of anything he demos , even the gear he doesn’t particularly like still sounds incredible .

    • @brandonjackson5865
      @brandonjackson5865 Před 2 lety

      I think the Marshall is maybe more versatile although it doesn’t do big fat cleans but neither does the Peavey . The Marshall can do modern high gain on the ultra channel and can do Plexi ish 800 ish things on the classic gain channel dimed with a boost . If there’s any way possible for you to try them both that would be the best . I can’t speak on the MH because I haven’t played one, but the Marshall has el34 and I believe it’s a little cheaper than the MH .

    • @-Mardos
      @-Mardos Před 2 lety

      i own the dsl 20 it has full sized tubes and thus probablyy sounds a little fuller but still, if you like peavey tone more def get the peavey. I realized just now that almost every record i love was recorded with a 5150 so i'll probably sell the marshall. The distortion of dsl just sounds kind of "stuffed", not sharp, more punk then metal, if you get me (marshall lovers would describe it as "warm" or "organic" i think). The high end sounds more "fuzzy" rather than "fizzy"

    • @brandonjackson5865
      @brandonjackson5865 Před 2 lety

      @@-Mardos You have to crank the DSL20 to get rid of the the fizzle fuzzy top end on the ultra channel . The classic gain does pretty good with the gain dimed and a SD1 in front . When I first got mine I thought it was too fizzy until I figured out cranking the master and controlling the volume with something in the loop . I have a Rectoverb 25 with el84s and it sounds a little boxy compared to my Marshall . I just think the full sized 6505 is a whole different animal than the 6505mh . You can get a sound out of anything . I’m not trying to talk you out of getting rid of your Marshall but my first reaction was nope this isn’t going to work. I would never describe the DSL20 as warm though by any stretch. I think a lot of people buy it thinking they can play it without pissing off the wife. You can, but at those volumes it’s going to piss you off lol . Also playing really hot pickups add to the fizz I think. Most modern amps don’t need anything hotter than 10k or however you want to describe a pickup’s output, I think the ceramic magnets they put in the bridge PU of most guitars now add to the colder fizzier tones . I have a Duncan Distortion in one of mine that I love for pinch harmonics but it too harsh for me most of the time. I had a JB and I don’t remember it being as harsh . There’s so much that goes into guitar tone also I don’t think the V30 is the right speakers for a DSL20 and if you have the combo the stock speaker is definitely part of the fizz you are getting.
