It's nice to see some amp manufacturers figuring out that 90% of us play at home and 1 Watt is plenty loud enough. The only problem amp companies haven't solved yet, is your neighbour!;-)
+Woodeso's Guitar Mods Exactly ! Hughes and kettner also have some amps loud enough to gig that have 1w and 5w options. Who said you can't have the best of both world?
+Woodeso's Guitar Mods Well I think the idea was that you were supposed to practice in your garage. And you made it big or took a job that crushed your soul. If the latter then it didn't matter much any more. :)
+Woodeso's Guitar Mods Why not just turn the amp down?
This is something that people just don't get. Tube amps don't get their beautiful trademark distortion until you get an awful lot of volume. I'll use my half stack on 3 to practice, but jesus does it sound amazing cranked. Low watt heads have less headroom, so you can get fucking brutal at low volumes. Deathrape2001
Deathrape2001 These power attenuation devices are only a tiny part of the story of why amps sound good at high volumes though. I've already written something relating to this in another comment on this video; that lower powered amps have better lower volume performance than higher-powered amps (by virtue of having a low RMS power rating) is a myth for the most part and that actually, other factors have a far greater effect on low-volume performance than the amp's power. Such as the power supply design, the output transformer design and the speakers themselves. Those are the sorts of things people should really be thinking about if they want to take the issue of low volume amp performance seriously.
And with an amplifier like a 6505, the vast, vast majority of the reason why that amp is famous for sounding the way it does is because of preamp distortion it creates, not the power section. The two sound totally different tonally. Power amp distortion introduces a lot of sag in the low end that's uncharacteristic of the 6505's extremely tight low end.
Not to mention that things flat-out sound better when they're loud by the mere nature of how we perceive sound and music in general. The same signal at different volumes affects how we perceive and interpret the signal and there is no getting around that.
I hate my neighbor so I will buy the 100 watter.
actually is 120 w :P
+XDX Even better!!!
Crimson Ghost
axxaxa
:))
I'm fucking crying lmao 😂
+Chill Vibes Music Group The cops have orders to ignore his calls. He will never get a night of sleep until he moves. Rock n roll.
Ooops - 2nd re-upload in a week. This one was taken down because there was a bit of language that should really have been bleeped but wasn't. Sorry to anyone who was offended in the 1st video - hopefully, all is clean & tasteful now (well, as clean & tasteful as were ever likely to get!). Cheers.
+CaptAnderton I actually prefer non-bleeped version.
+CaptAnderton I'd love an alternate Channel without or less censoring. :)
+CaptAnderton I'd more probably be offended by bleeping out words which prevents me from getting the jokes
+CaptAnderton Bleeping out swear words is unenlightened, not unlike forbidding the use of tritones was in the old days. Imagine how silly it would be if these videos had bleeps every time Rob played that interval.
+CaptAnderton I have to say that the mic DI did not sound as original sounding as you would hear from directly from the microphone. I have low wattage amps at home such as the marshall class five, VOX AC4TV head and cab, Gibson Les Paul Jr. Reissue amp and the Fender Super Champ XD. They can get loud without losing their balls. My VOX has an attenuator that will go from a four watt to a quarter watt and still have some balls. Don't worry about being clean and tasteful because you guys are cool and most of us are adults anyway. Cheers, Flood!
August 2, 2020. Just bought this amp with accompanying 1X12 for my wife, son and I to jam on. I too LOVED the Peavey sound as a kid and even though I now have fallen in love with Orange amps this thing reminds me of the high school crush you just can’t ever get over. Think it’s gonna be a blast to bring my son up the Peavey way!!
"Im rhythm chapman
And im lead anderton"
Lee: "I don't think blues players would take this to a gig".
Proceeds to make awesome blues sounds with channel one. :) Awesome amp, gonna pick one up early next year. If only there were Andertons in the states!
I was about to say the same thing. lol.
DITTO!!!!!
Just got this thing today. Along with this amp, i also have a full sized 6505+, Fender Blues Deluxe, and have owned several others in my guitar playing journey over the past 9-10 years. This thing is my favorite out of all of em.
Is it gigable
I've been waiting ages for this review, it has made my day!
Most people seem to love Vintage 30s with their 5150s/6505s, but I really think those amps sound amazing through a greenback loaded cab... an this video shows it.
I just bought 6505+ and a 1x12 cab for my bedroom and the cab has a greenback and it sounds amazing. Great low ends, the highs are searing, and the mids sound really thick if you crank them. Very pleased with the toan.
DID YOU GET THE COMBO? IM GUESSING YOU GOT THE 120W HEAD SO BE CARFULL, DO NOT TURN IT ALL THE WAY UP OR YOU WILL BLOW THE 1X12 AND THE HEAD UP
There's no way you can get the full tightness of the 6505 with a single V30 you need at least a 2x12. Whereas a G12 1x12 cab still sounds great with this amp.
Jaime Noro They had a peavey 2x12 with those GB's there that i liked too with the 6505+ but there also was a Diezel 4x12 which i just HAD to buy. I actually chose a Blackstar id 150 amp because i preferred it at bedroom level and still sounded pretty good loud
Wow i though this cab had the peavey Sheffield speakers.. what do you guys think about those speakers? (sheffields)
Thanks!
This is like Christmas for me :-) Been waiting for you guys to demo the Peavey 5150 (6505) for the past 5 years!! Bought my Peavey 5150ii (6505+) back in 2000 and never looked back...still my main amplifier til this day! Much more versatile amp than most give it credit for. You get downright awesome blues/classic rock tones from the crunch channel and one of the best hard rock/heavy metal tones on the market from the lead channel! This little monster captures the tones of its big brother perfectly.
Is it ok to play it at home with a strat or les Paul traditional?
Man these are probably the best tones Ive heard out of this channel and that strat didnt sound half bad with that strat. also that riff the captain played with the harmonics was killer
I have to admit that sometimes I watch your videos only to cheer up a little bit, I love video editing. Review also. Great amp :D
I am literally drooling right now. I have a mighty need. Great review, by the way
Sweet shirt Rob, Official Live 101 Proof is a kickass record.
wow, you guys just did a killer review on this amp, and for once someone on this planet did a review on this amp the right way! sounds badass!
Entertaining and informative. Cheers, boys! Top act!
SO glad i bought mine from you guys
Hey Rob,
What do you Think about making a Chapman Guitars SG- Type Model?
An Affordable one with only one Pickup (like a Chapman Passive Agressive or some AlNiCo 2 Pickup) in the Bridge ; a Mahagony Body and a Recessed bolt on Maple Neck and a baked maple or rosewood Fingerboard and a Volume and Tone knob in a natural Finish
+ACDC1998Zippo That honestly sounds amazing.
+ACDC1998Zippo I'd definitely buy that
I'd buy one
yep, sounds good, thumbs up
Yeah, and have a Phil X sig model.
When I was doing a lot of gigging a few years ago, I bought an inexpensive Peavey Valveking VK100 head as a backup to my main amp, Carvin X100B. I love that Peavey amp! Sounds fantastic.
after watching this a year ago I bought this head. couple months later be had it for a year and love it.boost it with maxonod808 it's sick.thats if you just want more bite doesn't really need it imo.its an amazing amp
Thanks for the Knowledge Bomb, Cap'n!!
Sounds great, nice playing Rob
Cap always enjoys playing with knobs!
That amp sounds really good!
Those blues tones are miles above what I remember being able to get with my 2x12 6505... Very nice.
The low gain and clean start tones are surprisingly wonderful. Peavy has so much experience with tube ampi ts no surprise this amp sounds as good as it does... I am very impressed by this amp...
Pantera's Official live shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You sir are a true elegant gentleman!! and the little amp is devastating!! Cheers from Morocco!!!
Wooowww it's cutting through the mix like hell's on fire
Clean w/ brightness is FREAKING SWEET!!!
Nice playing capt.!
Great reviews guys!!!!!
Was totally gonna get this but found a USA made 6505+ for $650, seemed like a pure winner, this still sounds stupidly amazing though compared to the big brother.
bakerXderek hey man, just wanted to say I love your vlogs. Do you know of any other amps that give that 6505 sound? I'm going for a Gojira or Black Dahlia tone but I'm broke as fuck
bugera 6262 and laney ironheart (with a boost)
CHEAAHHHHH
bakerXderek - how bout the full sized 5150? czcams.com/video/uaePWSooYiE/video.html
@@GrassFed67 try the 5150 3 they're very comparable
I must get one!!
Sounds brutal!!
When Rob plugged in the CAP10, OH MY LAWD THE TONEZ!
nice shirt Rob!
rob that top is stunning, damn!!
LOVE THAT SHIRT ROB!
sick tone!
Congratulations with 500000 subscribers !
very good demo guys
Great little amp for home use and gigging as well.
I have depression.
Then get the 120 watt
Very cool amp, good video
Sounds incredible nice thick and tight high gain tone
That head is bangin! \m/
Glad to see some Peavey gear here, great demo guys.
So Chappers, the Delta Blues is a pretty awesome amp. I'd love to hear you and Lee do a review of its cousin (the Classic 30) also, but perhaps the Classic 20 MH would be a good one for you guys to demo next.
I have a peavey backstage 50 from like the 1980's. for a solid state amp, that thing is amazing. it doesn't have that crappy sound of the new solid states. and that thing gets loud! love peavey amps!
I just bought this amp. I run the east river overdrive and an isp decimator 2. Gain on about 3.75 on lead channel and level around 3:00 on od and i run it on 5 watts! This thing slays!
Yesssssssss finally thanks guys
these videos are so entertaining.
love that shirt rob
this sounds incredible
next you guys have to do the mini EVH head
I've been listening and watching since 2012! but captain still plays the same thing!
haha, im not saying its a bad thing but i wanna hear more from the captain! :D cheers :D
I own it's brother, the VK20MH, and love it. The clean channel is a brilliant pedal platform. The Varitone circuit does a very good job switching between a class A tone and a class A/B tone. I've used mine in a number of scenarios: 1w-20w, my 1x12 with a v30, a beauty Bogner 2x12, etc. It works well in all aspects, and will gig no problem.
The foot pedal offers the channel switcher and a boost function. The latter puts you into a great lead tone for soloing.
These are great 'do it all' amps for good value (though slightly better value in North America where they retail for $499US).
I am legitimately impressed by Capt. Lee's EVH impression. That was pretty great. I daresay that amp sounds better with the Strat than the LP, too.
PEAVEY'S unique juicy half-cocked wah tone is so addicting and cuts thru a mix insanely well.
Awesome!!
I'm sold! \m/
14:46 - Squeal damn you!
And that's a fine sounding CAP-10!
yea if you guys remember the Peavey Rockmaster preamp it was absolutely awesome all tube and crushed.. it was a modified marshall sound .. These 65 series amps and the like sound amazing for modern music especially !
Something i always want to hear is clean channel with the guitar volume on 10/full/max, if you roll back we dont really know what we get. Otherwise thank you for reviewing this and vk 20mh, perfect for me!
I got a 6505+ the 120 watt version at a pawnshop in san Antonio texas which they were selling for parts for $150 and all it needed was the back fuse casing and the fuse !!!😁👍
I have an EVH frankenstein pickup in a guitar I use with this amp. On the high gain channel, set the pre gain to around 11-12 oclock and you're in brown sound heaven :)
God bless the handsome man who started uploading above 30fps.
Holy tone !!!
The cab emulation sounds great
Hey guys ! Will you be reviewing bass gear someday ? Love your videos !
My first amp (well... tube AMP, which is what most of us consider a real AMP) was a Peavey Valveking 212 100w , which I still have.... it has 4 6L6 tubes in it and I just love it, it has SO much grunt.... it´s loud, a bit heavy but to me it is UNIQUE!!!!
I would really want you guys to have a 6505 mini vs the EVH 5150 LBX video. Keep up the good work!
Chappers and Captain, love the stuff you guys put out, keep it up! If you are up for it, how about a version 2 of the 4-year old 'Practice Amp Shoot-out'? With the new Vox VTX, Mustang III and Blackstar Core TVP, modeling has improved leaps and bounds since that last vid. I'd love to hear/see your thoughts on it.
i think im gonna pulout my first peavey combo and try it out again. also amazing how it keeps the tone with watt change! If i didnt know, i would think you just turned down the voume
I personally play a 80-watt peavy bandit 112. Redline version. Great and powerful amp with very unique tones.
Dayuuum....just bought the Amplifire, and then you show this...
I really can't believe Lee got that to sound pretty damn sweet for blues. I wouldn't have even considered one of these heads but with Lee's style, I would consider if one came by at the right price. Thanks for the demo guys
Check out the peavey Valve King II in the 20 watt head format. It has 10X the features that a blues guy would want. Rob did a review on his own a week or so ago.
Brad Carroll Thanks for the recommendation! I'll check it out
Just about every player from my generation had a Peavey rage 158 :(
anonymous dumbfuk1976 awesome amp
Miss the red stripe
And so many also started with a Washburn WR-150 to play through it. Haha
I wish i had a rage 158. But i had a Gorilla amp lol. Actually wish I still had it
anonymous dumbfuk1976 I still have it lol
rage 158 silver stripe!!
My 1st ever amp was a 158 rage! Nostalgia in my eyes!
Rob's good chap, man!
good review
Great amp.
Holy shit that tone on the strat is tight!
I love that you can basically see the whole blues scale worn into that Squat (Squire/Strat as we lovingly call them in my social circles).
+Evans Goff Totally went back to the guitar challange video. And that neck was clean. Did you have it further relic'd or did you just play the crap out of it.
that thing sounds sick
I still rock my Peavey Vypyr 30. The 6505 modulation (& the Diezel/XXX mods too) are absolute prime.
Can you review the EVH lunchbox amp? I''m thinking of buying one but i don't know.
Love your video's!
He always plays the riff to Of Wolf And Man... and I love it.
"One does bottomy things, and one does toppy things..." I freaking love these guys...
I could listen to rob play for hours
This amp sounds absolutly br00tal!
can you review the Randall RD20 and RD45 ?
Will you do a video on the Peavey 6534+?Thanks guys ,absolutely love your videos.
Awesome
I have on of these and run it through a harley benton 2x12. Sick tones for sure.
I have one of these, but i changed the preamp tubes, i put 5751 in V1 and V3 to have more Headroom, with these tubes, the clean is crystal clear, the crunch is bluesy and the lead channel is less harsh :)
What’s V1 and V3? 5751 is the brand of the tubes? Thanks
I've been using this in my home studio and it is QUITE versatile. Clearly the lead channel is insane, but he clean channel (no crunch mode) with the master dimed and the gain around 12:00-1:00 - look out!
Rob chapman, I'm either buying the Peavey 6505 mini head or the Blackstar HT-20 head. If you had to choose between those two which one would you get and why? Please help me out! Thanks
I Love Peavey. Started on one. Pacer. Have many Peavey products. Last forever.
I would love to see a video like this with the Randall RD1 Head :)
It's Lee Marvin, dude.
Great review. Thanks
Hi, as always a great review with such nice English humor built in.. just one comment: I think the DI output signal sounds "not good", so microphones will still be needed to catch up the sound, in my opinion, Uwe, Guitar player, South Germany.
Can you do a review of that lava lamp ? :]
KNOWLEDGE BOMB!
love the fact of direct usb recording plus 1 watt if I want to hook up to cab
