i can make every guitar sound like a 30$ guitar
Simon B. ..dude you're rock and roll 😎😂😉
are you a punk rocker ? lol
Nice Dude
Simon B. 😂😂😂
honestly 😂
The sad thing is whoever buys the 7k Gibson will probably just leave it in the case because they're too scared to do anything with it
Craig Fisher sad truth about a lot of expensive guitars.
7k gibsons should go up in value, sell it for next couple years.
Some of the 7k Gibsons won't be played, but others will - if you can afford an expensive guitar like that, you aren't really that concerned about the money. And equally a lot of the £169 guitars will be played once or twice and then live under the bed or in the attic because the owners lose interest. That's life - does it really matter?
Jonathan Oakey it really depends on the player. Some might not mind taking the 7k guitar out of the case and playing it, as apposed to keeping it mint in the case. Also depending on the interest level of the person playing the affordable guitar it may get played allot, or it may just stay in storage
I don't quite have a 7k Gibson, but I have a 4k PRS that I play more than anything else in my collection. lol
This is fake. They can’t carry a 7000 pound guitar
Well it does sound *heavy* as balls.
@@Mr.56Goldtop he means guitar weighing 7k pounds, a pun, lol.
Thank you 😂
Ha ha
Ashutosh Pathak I think he knows that. His was the the pun ...I think lol I’m lost now
What I get from all these videos is that I'm just blown away by the quality of the cheap guitars that are coming out in modern times. You can buy a guitar for as much money as two wild nights at a pub.
Or one really wild night
No kidding, when I was a kid squire was absolute garbage and now they make pretty decent affordable stuff...I owned an affinity tele for awhile that I miss dearly now...
It's all relative. For some people, two wild nights at the pub IS £7k.
If you are a canny shopper you can get a cheap guitar which is better than the main brands. I've got a 89 squire Korean strat from the samick factory. Mint condition but with iron gear pick ups and all new electrics. It's fantastic. No wonder fender pulled production from samick. Taking too high a market share...
Honestly, I'd say it comes down to machines getting better. The cheaper guitars are usually just machine made whereas the expensive ones are handmade, but because machines can get so much more precise compared to what they used to, really what you're paying for on the expensive ones is the labor.
That said, the cheaper ones do usually have lower quality hardware and electronics...BUT, you could always swap those out for higher end ones if you ever wanted.
At the end of the day, the main thing to concern yourself with would be the base guitar. Ie. The wood, the neck, and the fretboard. As long as those are all decent, you can easily swap everything else out.
That said...I absolutely love my American made guitars for what they are, but I also have a Chinese made guitar that I love as well, and it already came with some of the upgrades I would've wanted to put in.
Buy the $170 guitar and spend the other $4830 on drugs, like a true rockstar.
For many rockstars, it's not "either / or " it's both.
ofc
Matt Whitmire I like your thinking
Cocaine and vodka, the vodka controls the coke, oh, and some cigarettes, too.
Drugs is bad m'kay?
most expensive epiphone vs cheapest Gibson. please😊
Same price range, which is best?
Doug Dixon I'd say the most expensive epiphone is the les Paul black beauty which is like 700 imperial credits of the realm
mrmuscle lmao 700 imperial credits
aah yes the Black Beauty is a nice guitar but is it better then the Gibson LPJ?
Epi
And the most expensive Squire/LTD/PRS SE vs cheapest Fender/ESP/PRS...
I gotta say that cheaper les paul didn't sound as bad as I expected...impressive
Cheap doesn't mean bad
I have one, was my first guitar and ill never part with it. Sounds great to me and thats all that matters
But it's touching is bad for me
@@supra2jzt amen brother
Amp is a huge part of it
Expensive wine is expensive because it's rare and collectable, not because it tastes the best...same with guitars
Excellent analogy! These days, idiots see the name on something and immediately assume it's a quality product made from only the finest materials. Gibson laughs all the way to the bank while they use many re-branded (and slightly altered cosmetically) Chinese parts on their expensive guitars.
Yes, but ofc a for example 8000$ guitar sounds better then a 300$ guitar, but not 7700$ better.
I can take a $300 guitar and put new pickups in it, which cost anywhere from $50-$200 for the set, and it will sound just as good as, if not BETTER THAN, any guitar which costs $1,000+ - even the $8000 model. 'People hear with their eyes.' - Les Paul.
@@Axess-sv8nq I agree with you there.
I don't think you're meant to taste the guitars...
I bet the expensive one smells better.
Kev G. I’m glad I’m not the only one that smells guitars.
Ever smell a Martin guitar? If not, you're missing out.
It smells like a new car 😂😂
Steven Cabán Martin's smell like raw wood. Smells so good
Smells like vanilla
Say what you like about these two but I think they are the best CZcams guitar presenters around bar none.
Thanks Daniel ;-)
Your cheque is in the mail
nah Pat & Doug take the cake. Doug's an AMAZING player. full credit to Chappers & Cap though.... they do a great job.
i think they got the personality balance just right. i don't really like the people who do top gear but that is balanced right too - world's biggest show anyone?
I love Chappers & The captain's personalities, they're fun to watch, but everytime Pete picks up a piece of gear to demo it makes me want to buy it. Always blown away by his playing.
I like better Mick & Pete, Of course this is fun, But the other stuff is like drugs fun
I would go with the cheap one.
It weighs less and costs less and still makes awesome sound - and I would have enough money left to buy all my drugs and still have a guitar
Lmao
Fair enough
Wait a second 🤨
drugs... blah..
Like a real rockstar lol
That cheap guitar is my guitar!!! Feel so proud right now 🥺 my baby
You should be...you saved a lot of money..rest is practice to actually sound good. All the best.
Randomly replied to this one lol
Same, it's the guitar I've got that's got me back into playing after a break for a while.
I have a special ii ve, its just a special ii with a different finish, its awesome and sounds great
Actually in my country it’s actually quite expensive it’s AED 1,399.00 with sale and AED 2,399.00 whiteout sale
My i like the sound is giving
Thanks for proving
1; the person playing is what makes the guitar.
2; Gibsons are way over priced after the $1000 mark.
The time spent manufacturing the $7000 guitar is much higher than on the $1000 guitar. And they had to basically build a whole new assembly line for a limited run. I'm glad that the results turned out so well after the risk of basically re-creating an old design. I wonder why they don't make more of them? Perhaps the labor costs are the biggest part of that price tag.
couchpoet1 there handmade using the finest materials you can put on a guitar. You get what you pay for
david turbo finest materials? You must not play guitar.
If you were rich would you drive a Hyundi ?
The guitars out of the custom shop are definitely handmade and consistent. Gibson has never claimed to cater to a crowd with a low price point however they have always made efforts to make some affordable guitars with solid quality. Gibson claim to fame however has always been as an exclusive brand for serious players. Fender has done the complete opposite and has tried to make a good balance between quality and price. Its just two different business styles and they both work. No need to dislike the company for it.
I bought Bobby that there epiphone slash one for like a hundred bucks and the boy can't even play sweet child o' mine yet. That boy ain't right. I'm putting him up for adoption.
Hank Hill
I see you fucking everywhere
RealGamerManz ikr...
thats because the guitar isnt propane fueled
Shutup fartknocker. Heh heh, yeah.
Hank Hill dont you do our boy dirty like that.
Our hearts say the Gibson but our wallets say the Epiphone.
And our wifes say air guitar.
Underrated comment
And our fingers say no.
And our brain says fender
My hands said forget about it.
And the winer is amp 🐸🚬
Lmao.. right. You can have a really good guitar with a bad amp and it sounds like sh*t
@@arigreen5845 Yep I can confirm that statement with my personal experience.
It doesn't matter.
When I play both of them it sounds like a walmart guitar
BlueArpeggio I know the feeling!
BlueArpeggio 10 minutes a day
BlueArpeggio Same, but it's getting better... kinda. lol
I've tried walmart guitar and in my hands it sounded like a fishing line on a broom.
SZCZERZO KŁY Damn man you made that shitte sound better than it is?
You are something else, I show my deepest respect
wow I gotta say that the Epiphone sounds great for the price
David DeMar I don't own Gibson. I play Epiphone because it's all the same hardware. the only difference is the wood used, and even then it's not that big of a deal. they still sound awesome
I have the same guitar and it so nice to play, I have basically played every genre on it and no issues. it does sound better dropped tuned. also the built in tuner is only accurate on a full charged battery.
StrikerAssassin Gibsons use different pickups to epiphones, also epiphones usually dont have grover runers
Gwydion Morris i have an epiphone les paul standard and it does have grover tuners
Gwydion Morris it is a very afordable one aswell
The tuner on the side of the pickup is actually the most convenient thing ever
Someone learning to play guitar now have better options than I did back in 1976 when I started to play. For the money, the Slash guitar sounded really good.
My 1st one was a Les Paul knock off that came out of the Sears and Roebuck catalog ! Played and sounded great but you need a good amp too
And for the record I know y'all have seen SRV"s Fender. The player makes the guitar!
Who else likes the video before it actually starts
Guitars are overrated play the triangle like me.
Try the electric triangle. It's a truly electrifying experience.
electric triangle with tonewood handle
fuck off
You can't beat a good guiro
HØWŁ noobs, play the air. Then I'll respect you
I'd take the Epiphone and a decent used BMW Z3 roadster rather than the Gibson. ;)
Mg?
Is this your way of coming out? LOL
Not a BMW. You'll end up spending more on repairs than you bought it.
David Kowalsky reminded me of richard hammond 1st season of rebooted top gear talking about the z3
Z3 roadster? 🤢 Why don't you just wear a purse and heels
The statement at the end is bang on, as long as you're playing then its your choice what you decide to buy.
I have one of the exact model in this video.
Guess which one :'(
DonHeartless Change the nut n bridge to a better material ones (brass etc) you'll hear a big improvement. Once you have maore money change the pickups n tuners.
DonHeartless Plot twist you have the true historic one
DonHeartless he has the true historic but cost him his wife, house and loss of all belongings haha the epi sounds good too a few mods and you'll be laughing
DonHeartless must be real unfortunate having the true historic :(
DonHeartless we feel with you man. True Historic is some fucked up shit :(
I'm gonna have to deliver a lot more pizzas to afford that Gibson
hey, the cheapest gibson is still better than the best epiphone
Neel Vaidya Dunno about all that.
There was a time when Epiphone was all the rage. Even some Epiphone's can really go up in price too. You get what you pay for though.
+Neel Vaidya it's all in the pickups
man, do it ! it is worth every pizza. this guitar gently weeps . even you can t play good. just need to touch a sound...
This video is such a classic. I always come back to this, It's just so fun!
As Rob finishes playing clean on the Gibson, Lee reaches to trade him with the Epiphone. Rob turns his head, "No" he said as he turns up the gain. "I must finish what I started." He proceeds to play a masterful lick that shocks Lee, The Crew, and the man standing outside of the room. None can believe what they have heard, Perfection.
fiji water vs regular water
CATSVN M lol
CATSVN M both taste pretty damn alike, just one has more minerals that make you feel better they’re there
Actually adding minerals to something doesn't make you feel better
Andrew Lopes yeah I know, I meant like make you feel better as in comforts you
Umm ok water doesn't comfort me but whatever floats your boat ;) (see what i did there)
"Tone Strap": For all Tone purists. The effect the strap has on the wood of the guitar body. Subtle midrange boost, softens the highs. More sustain.
no way man! it cant be true... or can it?
Gaggi Gaggo it cant
proof?
Deniers have given up. Laboratory quintuple blind studies show the Tone Strap has the most harmonic content of any guitar strap. And the new "microwave" process prematurely ages the strap for the crispier highs you get with a 20 yr. old strap, with out the failure issues in the material.
216trixie I died
Yeah… I would rather have a more affordable guitar upgraded with good parts than a really expensive guitar ... because I would be afraid of damaging a really expensive guitar.
My main and favorite guitar is actually my cheapest, an old Baldwin Les Paul junior with literally no stock parts left except for the neck and body
A cheap guitar with a setup and upgrades becomes an expensive guitar lol
it's hard to damage a guitar unless you're an idiot. it's not a skateboard. instruments are often expensive because you're supposed to be careful with them
Its better but not 6 grand better
True, but it's something you put on a stand in the center of your room with a light above it and admire its beauty..and also its price
phpforthewin You right But too many guys have no money
@@phpforthewin Well, unless you keep the price tag, it looks like any other Les paul
Not got 6 grand worth of parts in it
Gibson uses many re-branded Chinese parts in even their hyper-expensive Les Pauls. Plus, most of those parts are made in the same factory with many of the same materials used in Epiphone and whatever other guitar brands are made there. People give WAY too much credit to the name on a headstock without bothering to do research. These two are trying to sell you the most expensive guitar. That's why Chapman pushes the 'Tonewood' myth for electric guitars. It's a marketing ploy and a complete fraud.
The guitar player is the most important thing after all.
André Ribeiro no its just the amp
agreed- tone in the hands then the amp are two most important factors not the guitar.
The wood doesn't affect the tone at all. Maybe the sustain.
The editor for these is a fucking genius
ALL KINDS OF GAIIINNNZZZZZZZZ
It's Rabea Massaad.
Jaime Almeida nope, bea does the sound engineering and Rory does the visuals
+Jaime Almeida no its not, it's Rory
its rory mclean.....not rabea
Moral of the video: a good tube amp makes almost any guitar sound good
It truly does, coming from my experience.
"Seven thousand imperial credits of the realm" hahah
He's like Colin from The Fast Show
There’s a bit around 16:25 where I thought Lee was gonna go into the Thomas The Tank Engine theme.... such a shame. 😂😂
Hahaha wicked video guys. 🤘🏻😎
Sped Spedding 😂😂😂
Spot on mate lol
I was disappointed we didn’t get a troll riff
+Sped Spedding I just saw your comment on the video of the guy making a Strat out of pencils! lol
Good call
There's no shame in that affordable guitar. It plays well sounds good and looks good. In the 80s when I started there were no playable guitars that cost less than 500$. I bought a Japanese made fender strat with a locking tremolo that fell apart. It cost over 800$ back then. My amp picked up local radio stations. It's so much better today.
It wasn't so bad when the amp picked up a decent station.
Haha my amp did that a few times, the first time i was like "wtf is goin on?!?!?!"
No kidding. I started in '92 and even then, cheap guitars were rarely good guitars. Even now, there are quite a few shitty cheap guitars, but it's a lot easier to find a decent one nowadays.
A Lotus or Hondo could be had CHEAP back then, and they were surprisingly good instruments.... and Gorilla Amps
Alex van der Plas I remember leaving my house thinking that my amp was possessed... I had to have someone tell me over the phone that amps sometimes do that before I went back.
Hello from Canada! I have watched many Chappers and the Captain videos and after watching this video I subscribed, just a brutally honest video, (like all their other videos)! Thanks for the post!
Reading CZcams comments makes you wish you could see a lot of the "expert" commenters in an Anderton's blindfold test video. : )
Do the same kind of video but only with the most expensive Fender vs the cheapest squier.
Kristians Rozītis yes please
Kristians Rozītis Rob once confused a Classic Vibe (the most expensive of the Squiers) with a Custom Shop Fender ($600-$2000), that tells you quite a lot
Kristians Rozītis still hate the single coils. Get that nice 60 hert hum..... Everytime you take your hands off the strings, even with a wireless system and a decent noise gate. Spend the money on lessons. Lol
I would argue that's because the build quality of the highest end strat just doesn't match that of the highest end Gibson.
How have people already disliked? The video has been out for 5 minutes, and the video itself is 22 minutes. Watch the fucking video first!
Chris Brierley There exists people who subscribe to dislike.
BlueArpeggio Well these people suck
Chris Brierley and swallow at the same time
Chris Brierley Gibson, the brand people LOVE to hate, most common reason is the price and their lack of means to afford one!
Ean Bruette
You have to admit they're pretty overpriced sometimes though. Not that they aren't good though.
The Special 2 was my first guitar about 12 years ago and the tuning pegs are better than what I have experienced on real gibsons. They have taken a proper beating over the years and still hold tune and feel great to use.
u know what..i noticed the captain's playing has significantly improved throughout the years. Nice! And awesome review as always. Cheers from Malaysia!
Next Challenge:
50 Cent Plectrum vs. 500 $ Pick.
RaySteinschlag Lol does such a thing even exist?
There is a $70 pick that a lot of top professionals swear by. "Blue Chip Pick". I have yet to try it, and I doubt that I would buy one without trying it first.
ahahah scam of the century
Ginger Jesus $1 is a bit high, I use to get em 50c each at my local mom and pop shop, bought a 20 pack of the Jazz 3 Max Grip picks recently for a few bucks, love em.
A 70 dollar pick? Who "swears" by it? I buy Dunlop 1mm or so by the bag, I think it's a 10 count and that costs around 4 bucks. I'm constantly losing or misplacing picks, 70 dollar picks would get expensive real quick. I like the Dunlop because they have bumps and texture so they don't slip out of your fingers quite so easily but even still I lose them all the time.
Why don't you invite Joe Bonamassa with one of his original 200K guitars and compare that with the 7K guitar. That would be fun!!! I'll bet he would enjoy that invite... Chuck M
or even to the very cheapest les paul they sold out of, when it comes back in stock. now thats a comparison
+Chuck Mailhot Joe borrows those guitars from Bernie Marsden. One can get many1950s or 1960s Fender or Gibson guitar for under $25,000.
orlock20 he only borrows the beast off Bernie. He owns three or four of his own.
Chuck Mailhot Gibson would probably hate that video
Chuck Mailhot Bonamassa now owns 7 original bursts. He played The Beast onstage one time but never borrowed guitars from Bernie. BTW, Gibson even has a Collectors Choice Les Paul of one of Joe's 59' bursts. You can visit his website and see all 7 of his bursts and all the other vintage gear he owns.
I'd love to see the same challenge, but the guitars have the exact same pick ups. I'd love to see if we can here a difference then.
Captain I feel like you became progressively better over the years with these videos, I bet you play more now because of them. :) Cheers
I bet even a chunk of plastic with six strings and no pickups would sound good in the hands of the Chapman.
[white stripes intensify]
I prefer the fatter sounds Lee is gettting. Its probably the amp and pedals though.
If you play it, and you like what you hear, thats your guitar! Who cares what it costs? Good stuff boys! 🤘👍
i care what it costs. i could barely buy a schecter omen extreme with a fender amp for Christ's sake
Speaking of guitar price shaming I played with a band who's lead guitar player apparently had a problem with me playing a schecter C1 classic for practice and the show. He said "don't you have like a Paul Reed Smith or something?".... It gave me great pleasure when we played our first show to absolutely smash him in overall tone, distortion, cutting through the mix, etc. He was f****** with the controls on his amp the entire show I just wanted to tell him it's not in the amp bro!! Lol He was a pretty cool cat though.
Fuck yeahh bro wish I couldve been there to see that 😭🔥🔥🔥
You should do a blindfolded test for something like this so there’s no bias based on price/brand
now do the 1000 degree knife challenge on a gibson
hydrolic press vs gibson custom
Hydraulic press vs 1000 degree knife
hydraulic knife vs 1000 degree Gibson
Pewdiepie vs 1000 degree knife
combo997 RHNB vs Gibson
Here's a challenge idea: a blindfold test to see if they can tell the difference between a Nano Big Muff, a Little Big Muff, a Big Muff, and a Way Huge Swollen Pickle Mkii Jumbo Fuzz
Trust me that epiphone is amazing! I’ve got one and it plays so perfectly that I’m not going to upgrade to a Gibson any time soon and I’m even thinking of putting a floyd rose on it. It’s so good for the money!!
When you were talking about the true 59's and how the aged wood feels different it immediately made me think of fly fishing. I fish vintage fiberglass because of my grandfather's rod. So for me this is a chasing nostalgia thing more than a true equity experience. So for those that really live and breath nitro, I can easily see inflation for the cost of the experience of holding the neck of a guitar that was "there".
So I went and bought 35 Epiphone Les Pauls
and they most certainly not stay in tune
that is wicked funny that's awesome
You guys are too funny.
LOL...nothing wrong with that! Keep jamming! A cheap guitar is a perfect thing to learn and practice on.
what a hell of an investment
Play both those guitars through a crappy solid state amp........and it changes things drastically.....
Waters exactly!
But why would you do that?
because some would rather eat food for years than waste their fucking everything
Christopher Rowe What the hell are you talking about?
agreed, i think they've been putting up some real challenge to the valve amps for some time now. I still remember my first Peavey Bandit 112.. man, it did sound awesome, i've never heard anything like it from solid state. Nowadays, like the Vox pathfinder 15r, it's redicolous how well it performs for the money, i hardly use my valve amps anymore, it's just to much fiddeling and they're too sensitive...
Really love your videos guys
I’d be interested to see a video where you start with the £7k Les Paul, then keep halving it’s value until there’s a noticeable difference in tone or feel that warrants the trade up to the previous level. I’d wager that the tipping point would be around £500.
That is an amazing idea.
By stripping components, or 7k vs best available 3.5k equivalent etc.
When I listen to you guys play these this is what comes to mind: the affordably priced one sounds like it's saying "Hey yeah I'm a guitar, I make music and have a good time" while the dearest one sounds like it gives a lot more emotion like "I've been through a lot of shit and I'm going to tell you the story of my soul"
The problem is that when people are presented with sound alone without the visual aspect, they somehow lose their...poetic tendencies........soul takes a walk i guess until you are able to see again for the feedback to kick in...
What absolute bullshit 😂😂😂😂
I think this is pretty dead on. I pretty much felt the same way. It's all about the bump in the lows and high-mids in the Gibson that make shine and give it that attack grit and depth. The Epiphone is just honk and makes that amp sound like a cheap Peavy in a dorm room.
I fucking love that.
Best comment ever!
next time cheapest SG vs expensive SG
the sg 1 model up from the cheapest (g400 pro, £230) is actually really bloody good. Like, the only difference is slightly worse pickups and slightly cheaper quality feel, but they coil tap, and you could replace them with bareknuckles and still be half the price of a full sg. With an SG its so hard to go wrong, theres honestly not a lot you can fuck up, same with Teles
G400 Pro is probably the 4th cheapest Epiphone SG.
There's the SG Special (big pile of turd), G300, G400, G400 Pro. There also were limited runs like 1961 SG Special P90, which was cheaper than G400 Pro if I remember right.
Or just buy the 150 GBP Harley Benton DC Custom and laugh in the faces of brand slaves.
Dainius Vyšniauskas What are those Harley Benton's like mate?
Harley Benton is a in-house brand of affordable music instruments, owned by Thomann.
Talking about electric guitars only, they cover popular designs like Les Paul, SG, Stratocaster, Telecaster, 335, Gretch and so on. Their prices vary from around 80 euro from student series to the ~250 euro for their top guitars (SC550, XT-22, CST-24T). It's a bit hard for me to describe them with words, but there are couple of guys reviewing them, Cory Mura, Nick in the States and EytschPi42 being the biggest ones.
It'd be better if you checked their reviews or visited Thomann.de to find bit more info.
And an example : www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_cst_24t_paradise_flame.htm
Dainius Vyšniauskas Thanks for that!
The difference in sound is minimal for that difference in cost. The difference in quality of guitar player is costless...
If you are a god of guitar you can play on a fishing rod and it will still sound good.
Rob scallon and his shovel bass guitar can testify to that!
The difference in feel is astronomical
This is still one of my all time favourite episodes. I love the old challenge vids
I just finished a Thursday night solo pub gig and came home to this. Your videos are perfect post-gig viewing for those of us too wired to sleep after work. I love your videos & I love you guys. You really have become part of my life. Thanks for the joy!
Anyone who would have to buy a more budget guitar will not have an amp that good and it will sound much worse than it does on here
Jacevr so buy a better amp
thats not true. a boss katana amp is cheaper than the budget les paul and...just watch rob's video. sounds fantastic.
Defeats the purpose of a budget
I'm sure there are great amps out there for more of a budget, my point is that the amp they are using is a very good one and would make my terrible strat copy sound much better than my amp
Most intelligent folks buy an amp that costs more than their guitar, anyways! The Boss Katana costs less than the shitty Les Paul and it sounds fine
The cheap guitar sounded truly and absolutely AWESOME! He knows it! And i bet he’s gonna buy that one himself it’s just one of those one off miraculous sounding guitars!
One of my friends just happened to have one of those cheaper slash les Paul’s laying around his jam room and it was honestly a great sounding and great playing guitar. It blew me away for the price
I have that Epiphone and love it. Sure it doesn't sound the best but I still play the crap out of it every day!
Junior's Guitar Ranch buying a cheap Gibson was like night and day for me. Drop the Epi when you get the cash for a Gibby
I hear but cash is always an issue. I have a MIJ Fender but still play the Epiphone more. GC here in town has a Gibson SG that has a decent price on it, loved playing it the other day but hard to drop that cash on it. Plus my skills are not the greatest so that keeps me from buying expensive stuff as well.
Junior's Guitar Ranch I have both and the only difference is the pickups
I was thinking for one of my videos I would throw a $200 set of pickups into my $200 Epiphone to see how it sounds.
Junior's Guitar Ranch that's an awesome idea. I have a couple of cheap guitars since I was a kid and I dropped some dimarzio pickups and it's awesome. guitar doesn't matter so much, I love them all
Why are they laughing at cheap guitars?
Paying $7000 for a guitar is more of a laughing matter.
£7000 = $9000 USD
100% truth! Unless you're either a rock star, or someone else who's wealthy, you shouldn't be paying over $1,000 for a guitar. I've been playing for 40+ years - 30 of those in bands - and I've seen so many people show up with expensive gear who got laughed at by other musicians. The crowd didn't give a crap WHAT name was on the headstock or the amp.
The most I'd pay is $1500.
Unless ur wealthy
Maria Benavides - Or stupid with their money. The wood only varies in price on an electric guitar. It doesn't affect tone. Pickups can only be made one way using a couple types of magnets and a specific gauge of wire. People pay for a name. Any Epiphone can have the hardware (bridge, pots, tuning keys) upgraded to as good as, if not better than, that overpriced 'Custom Shop' Gibson.
"My message has always been-" and it cut to an ad that began with "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY." Amazing
The thumbnail makes the chap on the left look like he has a bad-ass fro! Awesome.
Lee. Demo the PRS that PRS gave you. Immediately. Without delay. Please.
I don't have it yet :(
CNCTEMATIC why shouldn't he use delay?
😜
Still flabbergasted and delighted Paul did that for you, Lee! Congrats, and looking forward to seeing it in action when you get it!
I saw that vid where PRS gave him that... poor Pete kinda looked like the kid nobody brought any sweets for.
is reverb allowed to use?
The real issue here is that chappers makes all guitars sound rad.
Very cool video. I started playing guitar with the slash les paul special 2 and I loved it
Jump back and forth between 10:39 and 12:58. They sound essentially the same.
cheers for that. they focused too much on the gibson and neglected the one i can actually afford! but u right, not much difference.
Throw some Gibson pickups in the epiphone and you won’t know the difference
@@fancykarlmarx - Or just turn up the treble by 3dB and call it good.
@@bradleypariah that works too. With how good those new epiphone inspired by Gibson guitars are I’m really not seeing the use in spending 4x as much when those are damn near just as good.
100$ hamburger vs 10$ hamburger ;3
i like the ones for 1€ xD
I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a Hamburger today
Mr McGoo Oh dear. :(
Please do this with strats lmao
Lenny Henry nah im good fam
The burst on that high and Gibson is absolutely perfect. Just the way I like it not too dark not too lite.
I have to say that you guys made the guitars sound great as I'm sure you could do on just about any guitar. But over all, I thought that this was indeed one of your best showings, its just the nature of the beast that as one improves on playing and understanding the intricate details of a guitar, one just naturally moves upward in price on a guitar. That's putting it in simplest terms. Cheers, Mates!
I have that exact slash signature guitar right now and I love it.
It's a great guitar
@A D yes
It would be a much better comparison to use one of Gibson's current top level range Les Pauls rather than a historic model that is trying to replica an old guitar rather than trying to be the best guitar they can make. That Gibson is only 7000 pounds because it's trying to be a '59, not because it's the best quality Les Paul in their current range.
Nathan Quinn Yeah, but it's trying to be a '59 not just "because vintage", but because it's supposedly the best they ever made
I’d agree. Often times a pickup swap can bring you very, very close.
There’s also though that part where you feel the difference playing it that a video just can replicate.
You could actually buy 41 of the chaffordable Slash-models for the price of one of the True Historic whatevers. And still have money for a proper tuner...
Hahahahaha what an irony.
@@GurisaYudistira What's ironic about that? I just did the math and presented the facts...
Great video, I lve hearing these guitars, you both play very well and you can feel the emotion in the guitars tone.
I love my 1993 Studio, it was all I could afford and to me it sounds great!! I love it, I perform all over with it, write songs with it and love it more every time I play it, everyone needs to buy the guitar that speaks to them when they play it and fits in their budget.
Maybe that's how much you have to spend to get one that stays in tune.
Paul Symes Shots. Fired
Paul Symes or maybe just set yours up properly
Chrisg841 it's the headstock that makes it go out of tune. Setting it up will do nothing. To bad you're so obsessed with overpriced Gibson guitars that you can't admit that there is a serious flaw with their guitars.
Owen Marcovitz You just said a lot about yourself with that assumption. I'd say you should stop blaming your tools mate 😁
Chrisg841 their headstocks are angled, regardless how you set them up they will always go out of tune, in particular the g string
£7000 wasted on that red dwarf, a better amp would be great for the expensive demos :)
FlourescentPotato that is an amp head, which means it is much higher quality than what the size tells you. you take the head and then connect that to a speaker cabinet it will give you an amazing sound.
I know what an amp head is, what I'm saying is that the red dwarf doesn't sound so good/feels out of place next to a £7000 les paul, would have made sense to take a more premium amp.
FlourescentPotato It is hilarious to see someone suggesting the use of a more expensive amp, with no comment as to function, in this specific video's comment section.
I have a Slash Epi in my collection and I friggin love it
40 Epiphone LPs microtonally tuned to different areas. LOL!! Love it!
Can't stand Les Pauls without the blocks on the frets. Looks like a fender mixed with a Gibson then
do you even dot?
Or the pick guard.
Idk what its called but the protection layer on the humbuckers is something must have in a Les Paul for me
Luckily for me. I don’t care which one. As I don’t play the inlays
Same here man, I always prefer Gibsons with the trapezoid inlays, I don’t really like the block ones but I really can’t stand the dot inlay on a Gibson, I would have gotten the 2019 SG natural walnut finish which I love but it has the dotted inlays.
do same with fender and squier
Fun to see the quality build and hear the sound quality.
I love it! They look like they are having so much fun
just buy that epiphone and put seymour duncan's in boom great sound for less than £350
Spot rocking546
That's basically what I did. That and some 165s to replace the admittedly weak stock tuning heads. Plays better than some guitars that cost significantly more money.
the Epiphone has a twangy, nasal, flat sound. the Gibson sounds sweet and warm
Zyraxes Rex spot on
Cheap guitars tend to lack overtones and sustain when compared to more expensive builds. Bottom-of-the-line parts usually are harder to get perfectly tuned and go out of tune more quickly; fit and finish is often lacking due to less time spent on each guitar. But once you get to the mid-level pricing, these differences rapidly diminish.
Right, this shootout is pretty obvious, but if you were to compare it to an Epi Standard Pro with the probuckers, you'd have a much harder time. The gap between $200 and $500 is much greater than the gap between $500 and $1000+
Agreed but in 15 years time the Gibson will have appreciated in value while the Epi will still only be worth $200 if your lucky + you'll have had the pleasure of playing a quality guitar for all that time.
The largest cost is the man hours of highly skilled labor to make the guitar perfect in the hands of the player.
There's a difference, especially when you play them yourselves, when the sound is unaffected by CZcams's compression. But I gotta say, I'm very impressed by how nice sounding the cheap guitars have gotten.
If you have infinite amount of money says Rob....
"I HAVE!" -Captain Lee
NOW THAT IS BADASS!
do the same with
fender - squire
Ibanez- Gio
and so on !!
I have an old squire strat that I picked up years ago that I'll never get rid of. It has that special resonance and tone that makes it one of the best sounding guitars I've ever played and I've played a lot of very expensive guitars.
Both cheap and expensive guitars usually sound the same, it's just the amplification that makes it sound different. I just bought a brand new Ibanez Gio 7 string for $200 and it sounds fantastic! I've done some tonal researching on the web and imo, the best way to bring out the guitar's true tone is w/ one of those digital amp/effect emulators like Axe Fx or Bias Fx
I can answer that as a Squire and Fender owner. Th neck feels much different one from the other. I played the Squire for 4 years and when I grabbed the Fender, the sensation was totally different. The wood is of first quality and not as cheap as the Squire one. The sound is slightly different, and even a not guitar player would recognize wich on is a Fender and wich one isn't. To be honest, the Squire isn't bad, the sound is good, the bridge is really well done and the magnets are great. Of course a 1.000 dollar guitar has better ones. but still, Squire is great for it price.
Jonathan Downey There's definitely a tonal difference when playing clean, but if you're adding a bunch of gain and distortion, the only thing a more expensive guitar may bring to the table is that it will be a bit easier to play
It's better to have a Cheap guitar and a good amp than a Good guitar and a cheap amp.
Ryan 'Fluff' Bruce proved this perfectly when he bought the cheapest guitar on Amazon and it still sounded good.
Do you play amps or do you play guitars bruh?
It’s better to have both.
EgolandTed u are a fucking idiot are u guitar player or a AMP player. 😂😂
For those who says "are u play guitar or an amp" , so.. from where does sound come from guitar or from an amp dumbs?
I think you're paying more for playabilty than actual sound.
This should have been a blindfold test.
