      Some of the 7k Gibsons won't be played, but others will - if you can afford an expensive guitar like that, you aren't really that concerned about the money. And equally a lot of the £169 guitars will be played once or twice and then live under the bed or in the attic because the owners lose interest. That's life - does it really matter?

    • @OddoRocket
      @OddoRocket Před 7 lety

      Jonathan Oakey it really depends on the player. Some might not mind taking the 7k guitar out of the case and playing it, as apposed to keeping it mint in the case. Also depending on the interest level of the person playing the affordable guitar it may get played allot, or it may just stay in storage

      If you are a canny shopper you can get a cheap guitar which is better than the main brands. I've got a 89 squire Korean strat from the samick factory. Mint condition but with iron gear pick ups and all new electrics. It's fantastic. No wonder fender pulled production from samick. Taking too high a market share...

    • @rockerseven
      @rockerseven Před 2 měsíci

      Honestly, I'd say it comes down to machines getting better. The cheaper guitars are usually just machine made whereas the expensive ones are handmade, but because machines can get so much more precise compared to what they used to, really what you're paying for on the expensive ones is the labor.
      That said, the cheaper ones do usually have lower quality hardware and electronics...BUT, you could always swap those out for higher end ones if you ever wanted.
      At the end of the day, the main thing to concern yourself with would be the base guitar. Ie. The wood, the neck, and the fretboard. As long as those are all decent, you can easily swap everything else out.
      That said...I absolutely love my American made guitars for what they are, but I also have a Chinese made guitar that I love as well, and it already came with some of the upgrades I would've wanted to put in.

      Excellent analogy! These days, idiots see the name on something and immediately assume it's a quality product made from only the finest materials. • @KJ9U
      @KJ9U Před 7 lety +23

      The time spent manufacturing the $7000 guitar is much higher than on the $1000 guitar. And they had to basically build a whole new assembly line for a limited run. I'm glad that the results turned out so well after the risk of basically re-creating an old design. I wonder why they don't make more of them? Perhaps the labor costs are the biggest part of that price tag.

      The guitars out of the custom shop are definitely handmade and consistent. Gibson has never claimed to cater to a crowd with a low price point however they have always made efforts to make some affordable guitars with solid quality. Gibson claim to fame however has always been as an exclusive brand for serious players. Fender has done the complete opposite and has tried to make a good balance between quality and price. Its just two different business styles and they both work. No need to dislike the company for it.

      Deniers have given up. Laboratory quintuple blind studies show the Tone Strap has the most harmonic content of any guitar strap. And the new "microwave" process prematurely ages the strap for the crispier highs you get with a 20 yr. old strap, with out the failure issues in the material.

      Gibson uses many re-branded Chinese parts in even their hyper-expensive Les Pauls. Plus, most of those parts are made in the same factory with many of the same materials used in Epiphone and whatever other guitar brands are made there. People give WAY too much credit to the name on a headstock without bothering to do research. These two are trying to sell you the most expensive guitar. That's why Chapman pushes the 'Tonewood' myth for electric guitars. It's a marketing ploy and a complete fraud.

      the sg 1 model up from the cheapest (g400 pro, £230) is actually really bloody good. Like, the only difference is slightly worse pickups and slightly cheaper quality feel, but they coil tap, and you could replace them with bareknuckles and still be half the price of a full sg. Harley Benton is a in-house brand of affordable music instruments, owned by Thomann.
      Talking about electric guitars only, they cover popular designs like Les Paul, SG, Stratocaster, Telecaster, 335, Gretch and so on. Their prices vary from around 80 euro from student series to the ~250 euro for their top guitars (SC550, XT-22, CST-24T). It's a bit hard for me to describe them with words, but there are couple of guys reviewing them, Cory Mura, Nick in the States and EytschPi42 being the biggest ones.
      It'd be better if you checked their reviews or visited Thomann.de to find bit more info.

I've been playing for 40+ years - 30 of those in bands - and I've seen so many people show up with expensive gear who got laughed at by other musicians. The crowd didn't give a crap WHAT name was on the headstock or the amp.

      Maria Benavides - Or stupid with their money. The wood only varies in price on an electric guitar. It doesn't affect tone. Pickups can only be made one way using a couple types of magnets and a specific gauge of wire. People pay for a name. Any Epiphone can have the hardware (bridge, pots, tuning keys) upgraded to as good as, if not better than, that overpriced 'Custom Shop' Gibson.

    It would be a much better comparison to use one of Gibson's current top level range Les Pauls rather than a historic model that is trying to replica an old guitar rather than trying to be the best guitar they can make. That Gibson is only 7000 pounds because it's trying to be a '59, not because it's the best quality Les Paul in their current range.

      Cheap guitars tend to lack overtones and sustain when compared to more expensive builds. Bottom-of-the-line parts usually are harder to get perfectly tuned and go out of tune more quickly; fit and finish is often lacking due to less time spent on each guitar. But once you get to the mid-level pricing, these differences rapidly diminish.

      Right, this shootout is pretty obvious, but if you were to compare it to an Epi Standard Pro with the probuckers, you'd have a much harder time. The gap between $200 and $500 is much greater than the gap between $500 and $1000+

      Both cheap and expensive guitars usually sound the same, it's just the amplification that makes it sound different. I just bought a brand new Ibanez Gio 7 string for $200 and it sounds fantastic! I've done some tonal researching on the web and imo, the best way to bring out the guitar's true tone is w/ one of those digital amp/effect emulators like Axe Fx or Bias Fx

      I can answer that as a Squire and Fender owner. Th neck feels much different one from the other. I played the Squire for 4 years and when I grabbed the Fender, the sensation was totally different. The wood is of first quality and not as cheap as the Squire one. The sound is slightly different, and even a not guitar player would recognize wich on is a Fender and wich one isn't. To be honest, the Squire isn't bad, the sound is good, the bridge is really well done and the magnets are great. Of course a 1.000 dollar guitar has better ones. but still, Squire is great for it price.
