Leave it to SNES Drunk to lay down another Sega series that i had no idea existed. Thanks for the review!
SNES Drunk is a cool guy and would make a great Pres. Thanks for the videos, dude.
@@Turtleproof " A SNES and a Handel for all! " Hooray for president Drunk!
You dont know Valis but call yourself like a Sega Character...?
@@tailsgarcia6727 I'll drink to that, happ' birfday 'Muriceh! *belches and falls into a fireworks mortar*
@@lady1kaka To be fair, Valis didn't start on the Genesis. It was initially released on the MSX and PC-88
the Sega version has parallax scrolling too! thats missing from the PCE. I also liked Valis 4 SNES' soundtrack
"this is one you gotta play anyway you can..."
Don't hesitate, emulate!
*wink*
Especially through the Genesis Mini after it's been equipped w/ emulation 😎..
Thank you so much for uploading this video! Valis 3 brings me back such fond memories that I'll always cherish it. The first time I played this back in the day it was from a video rental store near my house. They only had the japanese cartridge. I played it a ton but couldn't understand what was going on, obviously. My friends and I made up the story as we went along. We drew the characters, created villains and so on. We were huge on Voltron, Zillion, Saint Seya and some other stuff that was on TV in the early 90s here in Brazil. Many years later, I got around to playing it in English because a friend of mine got a copy on the cheap. He had never heard about it before, but bought the game at a street fair because it was super cheap (10 Brazilian Reais). He called me saying that he had a new Genesis came and that I should drop by to check it out. I did and I was shocked and amazed when I saw Valis 3 on his mom's old TV. I immediatley called some of the guys from back in the day. We ended up having a play party (pass the controller around in case the level is over or you lose a life). We played the thing all afternoon drinking soda and eating pizza. Now I feel like drawing a few characters all over again. Thanks again for the cool video and keep up the excellent work! As we say in Brazil, a big hug for you, my friend!
I’ve got the 1st Valis and I thought that looked good. 3 looks significantly better right of the bat. It is a good game so I have to have this one. Happy 4th! Time to get Snesdrunk lol
This is why I love this channel. I've never heard of this series before and now I can't wait dive right in.
Awesome to see you doing Mega Drive games......! 😊 Give the PC Engine some love as well besides the catch all video you did.
@Nostalgia Addict1978
That would be awesome, but I think a lot his games are emulation, and the Saturn still struggles a bit in that area, although it's gotten a lot better.
This probably isn’t what you meant by PC games, but it’d be fun to see him review some of the old Sierra games. Like the Police Quest games. And Day of the Tentacle!
1:26 That's a really nice pixel art cityscape. Looks like something from a Streets of Rage game.
reminds me of ninja gaiden arcade game. they did a great job representing brooklyn bridge and the highway itself on stage 3 or so.
@@Video-Games-Are-Fun Except Yuuko is from Japan, so it's likely a far different bridge.
I found and bought a complete copy in the wild last week. Dope game bro!!!
SNES drunk..the notification of this last video you have posted interrupted the drunk text I was sending. Of course I had to stop everything I was doing at the bar in order to watch this review...which also gave me time to reflect on said drunk text I was gonna send and which looking back I would have regretted in the morning. You truly saved my bacon..and on the 4th of July no less..you sir are a true American Hero!
Mike Turns why are you at the bar at 730am? Or 430am if west coast....... you might have a problem.
4:30 A.M. My friend has a bar in our small town that he kept open for a private party for us. Obviously I had no business sending texts at that time..still don’t 😂
I had play this when i was a child and I didn't have been listen about this for a long tine, thank's for remember me about this treasure.
Epic video! I just heard of this game so I looked it up and your video was perfect to learn about the game.
OMG I had a japanese imported version of this and never knew what it was called! thanks for featuring it I can now look it up again
I've always liked the Valis series because of the art style. I actually remember buying Valis 2 on Turbografx only to find out it was a Turbografx-CD game. I didn't own the CD attachment, but a close friend of mine did, so I at least got to play it a little.I will eventually go back and play through all the Valis games one of these days, I hope.
Thanks for covering what I feel has become a relative unknown game series, Drunk!
That intro is fire
I love this series. Nice review!
I remember playing it some times and of having fun, but the memory is quite fuzzy. But the pajamas level, with the awesome dive for the sword at end, that really stuck with me :)
Gotta love those early 90s anime/manga designs.
Well I think Valis games are more representative of the PC Engine than the Mega Drive, that's why it didn't got a slot on the Mini, but maybe Konami will bring those for the PCE Mini
Aaand they didn't. The first game at least should have been on PCE Mini.
Always great to see a video on something less well known, I'm gonna give this one a try! It looks anime as hell and like it's a lot of fun
I was actually thinking Popful Mail when you were describing the gameplay and then you said it. :D
I used to love this game as a kid. Nice memories. The higher levels were super hard though.
I do like it when you make videos outside of the snes library, because they are usually about games that are really damn cool.
You spoil us, Drunk, and we love it.
0:49 it's the dark magician.
0:54 Me, an Australian: I understood that reference!
Duude! Thanks for covering this awesome game! I used to love it when I was a kid and rented it over and over. I wish it were more challenging but other than that I loved it!
Nice review
That really sucks it missed the cut on Genesis Mini, hopefully if it can be modded I’ll add it to the Genesis Mini myself. Game looks fun as heck! Thanks for sharing❤️
Happy 4th of July💥🇺🇸🌭🍔
I freaking love this game....... Oh the time
@Help Me a game Lost in Time
Common Snes Drunk sayings: "You're gonna have a bad time.", "Why 13? I don't know I just like odd numbers.", and "And I want to thank you for watching and I hope you have a great rest of your day."
You don't have to press up and jump at the same time to high jump, you just need to hold up and then jump, easier that way, aniway, I agree, excellent game
i loved the valis games when i was in middle school! lots of fun and good memories
A mix between Revenge of Shinobi, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, and Sailor Moon? You just described the perfect game I think
Thanks for the recomendation, I should check this game.
My favorite valis is valis77
I will always Upvote SNES Drunk!
Funny is Valis did do the cutscenes like 4 years before Ninja Gaiden. Valis first game way back in 1986 had the style cutscenes.
absolutely love valis 3
Loved this game, was the first Genesis title I imported. Didn't know it got a US release til years later.
This was sort of tough to find when it released. But I had it and played the heck out of it.
Ah. The age on innocence before Valis became a hentai series.
Looks like something I would play. I only got like 30 genesis games.
Always loved this series.
With that name, I always assumed this was just another RPG series. Definitely getting both of these.
This is a series I really need to play.
Looks great, it's like a Castlevania/ninja gaiden game with anime style.
Great review. Been wanting to get in to this series. Having trouble finding Valis 1 for the PCE. Don't really want to play the Genesis or esp. not the Famicom version.
It was on the Japanese PSN a while back for PS3 and probably still is.
If you've yet yo discover the joys of digital importing by making a Japanese account on your system, I highly recommend it.
i got this game on eBay recently that came included in the 218 games in 1 Multicart for genesis for only $29.99. freaking badass.
An new old game i didnt know thank you SNES drunk
Thanks for watching Daniel
@@SNESdrunk like always a fan of your vids since 2015
:D Please more Arcade Drunk too, twice I have asked. Third time I will transform into a super ultimate, fantastic, wonderful, pretty good something in my pajamas!
OH! I want to check this out. I'll try the PC Engine version. Thanks!
I played Valis IV when i rented a Genesis as a kid. Maybe the only game i ever played on that console
I grew up with that game
I loved that game very nastolgic for me loved the game soundtrack as well
Thanks man. I'm always looking for good Sega games to play.
Thank you, Drunk! :-)
Valis is so good. I've never played anything passed the first game though. I might beat the rest of them today. I think I'll stick to the Turbografx CD though.
Love these games! It's on the PCengineCD that they really shine, though. The original even got a remake, due to how popular it became on the console. Anyone who love platformers should play them all...
I loved this game. Funny to say that being a Sega kid has led me to play some of these awesome titles
This was the very 1st game I ever played as a child, it will always be a cherished memory, I rememer seeing sailor moon years later a feeling they were ripping Valis off, as I grew up I realized nobody even knew of this game, such a gem .
You guys should definitely do some pc engine reviews!
I have to pick this game up
Valis 1 and 3 are fun, never got to play Valis 2.
I only tried this very briefly on Fusion, not too bad but I got distracted and didn't finish it yet. The backlog is insane
I think this might be a game I recall playing on a friend's Genesis back in the day.
I remember really enjoying the setting and thinking the characters looked cool, but eventually I realized that I was having a lot of trouble because my health bar and other icons at the top of the screen were not visible. They were completely cut off by the TV's overscan, which is a problem I had never seen before nor since.
Seriously, who makes a game like that? Who spends so many man-hours developing a game and never once notices "Oh yeah, you can't actually see your LIFE BAR if you play this game on, you know, the intended hardware?"
Reminds me of stuff like Legendary Axe on TurboGrafx-16.
You can also slide over pits for some reason.
great work as Always!
..now it's time to "pcEngine drunk"!!!!!!!
Thumb up for Segadrunk Intro already.
Commence the binge playlist.
An excellent series, I first discovered the series on the Genesis with this title.
The PCE version is better but still a very admirable port.
Too bad the series went down the gutter after IV ...... if we could get a remake of this series that would be awesome .
Cool game!!! 😍😍😍
Just finished this game it has a stage code that really is needed especially the ice stage, it has a small cut scene that explains valis 2 as well, dont be fooled with the easy platform style you,ll have to get your sliding down to pass certain areas, great game the music is top notch but i liked the music in valis 1 a bit better!!
Really good game. I liked the setting and combat. Girl power!
I love videos of yours like this. I'm sat in hospital about to be discharged, and I'll be downloading this and giving it a go when I get home. Dunno how many dozens of games I've checked out due to a SNES Drunk recommendation. Cheers.
Best of luck Chris
If i remember correctly, the PCE/TurboGFX version also uses the CD Audio capability for voice-acted dialogue. Pretty bad actually, but it can give some good chuckles.
*God i wish boxart still looked like that.*
Looks good to me.
Sega had all the cool anime type games
This reminds me of Brandish or Brain Lord if they were reimagined as platformers.
I rented this from Blockbuster back in the 90s.
I remember my cousin owning this game, and the first. It's so weird that its 2nd game is on a different console that cannot be ported.
How was the tg16 version?
Valis III [Genesis] review - It's perfectly okay!
Yuko and Cham
Little Nemo FTW!
one issue I can see in the gameplay that didn't get addressed, it looks like its one of those games where the screen only scroll's when your characters is 3/4ths tword the edge of the screen to make it scroll, and that leads to alot less room and time to react to incoming enemies, am I correct in this assumption?
No. It doesn't "only" scroll when you're up that close, but the screen doesn't re-center itself unless you stop and wait for the screen to catch up. That's one of those things I'm just used to, since playing old games is uh, pretty much all I do
@@SNESdrunk ah, thats still not great game design but its more tolerable since it looks like the characters movement speed is pretty slow so you'll do fine if your not trying to outpace the game like you said in the video.
Hey, SNESDrunk, Did you ever play Valis SD? That was... different.
For whatever reason, instead of porting Valis 2 to Genesis/Mega Drive, they remade a game with a SD style. Feels and plays strange, comparing to the rest of Series.
Your videos premiere at 8PM in Japan so when you sign off with "Have a great rest of your day," I'm already getting ready for bed.
I didn't know Sega had these awesome games. Langrisser
Cool game for genesis :)
The TurboGrafx cover of this game is the stuff of nightmares:
www.hardcoregaming101.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/valis3-cover-tcd.jpg
If you want to play this legitimately, it's available on the Evercade Renovation Collection.
They're supposed to be coming out with a new one
I'm surprised sega hasn't come after you. I heard a while back a lot of CZcamsrs were getting in trouble for showing sega gameplay videos
It does have some nice looking anime characters.
I always love to wake up to Segadrunk.
I can't remember if you've mentioned it before but have you considered doing a video for Alisia Dragoon for the Mega Drive? It's another great game for the system but I feel like it went under the radar since it has a female protagonist and the North American box art was crap.
i always confused valis and the y series of games. and i remember these games mostly on the turbo grafx 16 and those DIE HARD advertisements in EGM magazines in the very early 90s...
Shantae and the pirate's curse no that was like the super Nintendo games I meant
You definitely got to give shantae games a try I think there's like two or three of them I know of two
