Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 57 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive 10 year back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot.

THE best Hard Rock band in existence - superbly skilled musicians and vocalists, incredibly complex song compositions, incredible stage presence and crowd control, literally no bad songs, just great to excellent ones. 🤘At 3:00 - MISA, the bassist, Kanami the lead guitarist and composer, and Miku the rhythm guitarist and founder of the band, are playing Hengao - "strange faces" - with Akane the drummer, which is making funny faces to try and put someone off. Akane, of course, laughs along while not missing a beat. It shows the ladies' confidence in each others' abilities that they can fool around like this while all of them slam out note-perfect Rock at full tilt. At 3:56 - MISA the bassist is holding her plectrum in her curled finger so she can produce it and switch from slapping to picking in half a nanosecond. At 5:07 - Akane the drummer is hitting two separate beats on her double kick pedals while simultaneously continuing the song melody on her snare, toms and cymbal. At 6:24 - a brief glimpse of Kanami laying down one sweet rolling chord pattern - pure class. THE best live Rock band on Earth. And beyond.

That was the 21st song of a 23 song set for the band that day. I have seen them twice in the past twelve months, at the Fillmore in silver springs and then at the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville. They are even more awesome when you hear them in person. Have a good one!

Coming to an end of a year long ten year anniversary tour. They split between the US and Japan and will finish in a big end of year arena in Japan. Their act is based on the Cafe Maid cafe's that are popular in Japan. MISA the bass player will slap and pic and hide the pic in her palm. Kanami on guitar, writes the music while the lyrics are mostly but not exclusively written by Miku. The whole band will add their bits and input. Many will talk about how good the band are. Truth is they are even better than that.

You've just discovered one phenomenal band and they just get better and better as you dive into them. Their songs are catchy yet complex - there's something there for musicians and the casual fan both. They are all virtuoso level players, but their songwriting is even better. Honestly they should be the most famous hard rock band on the planet right now. Oh, and they'll make your face hurt from smiling so much.

Here is 2 reviews from Lallapalooza, they were the 2nd Japanese band to perform at Lallapalooza and 1st All Female band.
    CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
The Japanese rock act is the quintessential example of not judging a book (or a band) by its cover. Inspired by everyone from Carlos Santana to Deep Purple and Smashing Pumpkins, but looking like demure movie characters, Band-Maid is a total exploration of contrast, and about as shock rock as you can be nowadays - not for the blood and gore of, say, GWAR, but for the immediate hypnosis they impart. - Selena Fragassi
    ROLLING STONE
Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame
There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C.
There are 200+ Rock/Metal bands in Japan with about 45% all female. Some suggestions - Nemophila, Lovebites, Babymetal, Atarashii Gakko, Hanabie. You will need to strap in!!

The next time BM is in Detroit....would'nt it be freaking awesome if they can squeeze in a cover of Detroit Rock City! They have 3 guitars ala KISS and wwould absolutely blow my mind....I know Nemophilia did a great cover of DRC and BandMaid would totally destroy with Misa on bass, Miku on rythem, and Akane on drums. No need to mention Kanami....lol

@@GaryHolloway-810 But of Course Sir. Here is the remainder for everyone's perusal.
Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead.
Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition.
Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition.
Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music.
Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well)
So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance.
And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD!
      ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!!
Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan.

Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"...
The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited)
This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their CZcams channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill.
Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid.

@@creativitytalkin8057 I have an answer...or at least a supposition that may answer why you, and others, have not found Band Maid until now.
Back in 2012 when Psy turned the World on its ear with 'Gangnam Style' all heads turned East. During that time, as the fervor started to die down over Psy, many started to check out other sounds coming from Korea and Japan and what they found as the fastest rising group was Babymetal!!
2014 and 2015 saw the Explosion of Babymetal Fever World Wide and a whole bunch of new groups (and a few that had been around for a little while - ie X-Japan) started to come into focus for Western Fans. The group that, in my humble opinion, took the greatest advantage of the attention Babymetal was drawing to Japan, except for Babymetal themselves, was in fact Band Maid!
As you saw in this video (one of over a hundred of songs they have - not a bad song in the batch) they Hold the Line in Solid Guitar Rock and have picked up the Mantel of Rock'n'Roll were the West has mostly left it behind.
Congratulations on finding the Hardest Rocking Maid Band in the World!!

Their gear was the same for a long time. Misa (bass) - Black Cloud basses (many, custom built), Orange amp and stack. Miku (rhythm) - Zemaitis guitars (around 11 different models but currently she uses her own signature model 'flappy pigeon'), 5150 amp and cab. Kanami (lead) - PRS guitars (many) custom 24 mainly, Mesa boogie triple rectifier and cab. Akane (drums) Tama starclassic bubinga with Ludwig Black Beauty snare generally although she has used a selection of snares, Gretsch, Tama and another I don't recall, Zildjan cymbals. This year though they've switched up, Misa has been using Aguillar amps, Miku and Kanami have also gone digital, I don't know the details of them but I'm sure someone else can fill in the details.

BAND-MAID has dozens and dozens of song all great and all different. If one doesn't do it for you the next one will. They shift through genres and make each one their own. But don't forget to check out their instrumentals and Traditional April Fool's Day persona, BAND-MAIKO songs as well.

Hey, Guys! Congratulations on improving your life immensely today!!! 😎
Finding the Maids can be one of the greatest, most unexpected, moments of your musical life!! 😀🎼🔥
You don’t know it, yet, but Miku, Misa, Kanami, Akane & Saiki just might become your favorite musicians on the planet 🌏. They are a truly remarkable collection of artists that only come along once every decade or so. Not exaggerating, you’ll see plainly for yourself if you continue the journey down their “Pigeon” hole!! (You’ll understand that later) 😂
I’m old enough to remember The Beatles and grew up listening to Zeppelin, Floyd, Yes, Rush and every band since and their are few…in fact, maybe none, as prolific as BAND-MAID at creating great song after great song. They have albums full of amazing songs.
They are growing fast in popularity and awareness, finally…and should be playing stadiums all over the world imho. 🏟️ 🙌🏼
They do everything at the highest levels - composition, orchestration, arrangement, instrumentation, songwriting, playing and performance. The are a very special band the world is finally learning about. 🌏
It’s difficult to know what song to recommend next but here are 5 live videos to get you started:
    - “Puzzle” - official live video
    - “Freedom” - official live video (drum solo)
    - “Play” - official live video
    - “No God” - official live video (fun prog?)
    - “Real Existence” - official live video
As others have pointed out, they just played Lalapalooza in early August and there’s a couple unofficial but good quality videos available on YT. Try to find -
    - “Dice / Hate?” - unofficial live
Oh, and the Maids don’t block reactions - they watch them in fact.
They also have great MV’s that showcases their range and diversity of sound. They are not a one-trick pony like so many bands.
    Check out:
    - “Shambles” - official MV (anime closer song) & its heavy! Do it!!
    - “Blooming” - official MV
    - “Warning” - official MV
    - “Daydreaming” - official MV
    - “Manners” - official MV
Speaking of shocking manners, check out the mind-blowing two-fer
    - “Manners / Black Hole” - official live video -
    - what other band could pull off these two diametrically opposed songs so flawlessly…? Answer: No one.
Take care and rock on!! 🤘🏼🔥🎸🎸🎸🥁🎤🎹🎼😀✌🏼

This band has lots and lots of songs and you will probably like most of them. For something heavier try NEMOPHILA. They are another all girl Japanese band but more punk metal than rock. Korean band Rolling Quartz is certainly worth a look.

And that is where the saying " don't mind us" comes from. Handed down through the ancient civilisations and languages. It is thought that the maids depicted on Egyptian pyramids were entertaining the Gods. They would be entombed with their King . This is where the term "rock out" is derived as the maids and other cleaning staff would dig their way out and look for a new manager.

Only 130+ more songs to review boys.... It's never to late to start listening to Band-Maid. They are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year. Been to the States four time since Oct 2022 and ending their 10th Anniversary Tour in Japan last this year. Hardest working Band I know of. If you stay....welcome, you'll never be sorry. Ironically, the lead guitarist Kanami doesn't like to take the spotlight. She has gotten better about turning it up for her solos though. She plays PRS and Miku, the rhythm guitarist, plays a signature "Flappy Pigeon" Zemaitis. Misa, the bassist, plays Black Cloud basses. She used to use Orange amps, but I believe she may have changed recently. Miku plays through EVH 5150 and I think Kanami uses Mesa and/or Marshall.
