Ive been up all night and went to O'sheehans while they were cleaning and didnt have the kitchen open. I asked and they were happy to grab a fruit plate and tray of sandwiches to set out until they set up for breakfast. So the crew were happy to help out while the grill was offline for cleaning. I've never had a bad experience on NCL.

Going on the GEM tomorrow on back to back Canada to Caribbean. So happy to have found and viewed many of your videos. I am newly mobility handicapped; I use a walker and at times a chair. You two have given me so much comfort knowing that travel is still possible. It’s obvious how much in love the two of you are.
So excited for you !!! The Gem is our favorite ship. Am glad you are now more comfortable about your vacation......that is the whole purpose of this channel and what we do. After I got sick.....I just had to say to myself that, this was my new reality and I could do most of the same things.......but now just in a different way. Happy sailing and have an AWESOME time !! Hey guys! I have a coffee tip for you. Instead of schmoozing to get and keep a coffee carafe in your room, and having to fill it yourself every morning- just order extra coffee on your room service breakfast order. My husband and I always put 4-6 coffees down for our room service order and ta dah! They will deliver you a carafe of coffee to your room every morning.
We have found that the room service coffee is very lack luster or hit or miss. We like to get our carafe and head up to the buffet and make sure it's " regular " not decaf...and hot. Unfortunately, many a time, we couldn't drink what was delivered. As Kevin would say...." I can't drink this swill ! "

You guys are great! Very informative reviews in a great format. I haven't sailed since 2002 (NCL Dawn) & have booked the NCL Escape for Sept. 2018 - 1st time cruise for my new wife. Had a balcony cabin on the Dawn for the 1st time & it's the best way to cruise.

I just found you and am glad I did. Love the video... and you two are great at mentioning the things that I need to know about (I have difficulty breathing so I need elevators, for instance). Love the banter between you two as well!
OMGoodness... Moderno's sounds like my kind of place. I love meat with a bit of something else... but it's the meat that I love to eat. I could sit there all evening and eat. sigh.
I do have a little observation... the "free" food places aren't truly "free" nor "complimentary". They are "included". You *do* pay for them in your fare, just like you pay for them in any "all inclusive" vacation. I know you know that, but some people who have never cruised might not realize this. Every single item that's included, you've paid for in that ticket. So don't feel guilty eating how much you want when you want. Take some back to your room if you want. You've paid for it. I know it's a bit of a nit-pick, but I think it needs to be said. :)
You are right !! As we've always said......" You're paying for it somewhere " Whether up front when you book and pay before sailing......or later when you're on the ship and you want to go to a specialty restaurant.
Yes, The Salad Bar at the Moderno was also Amazingly Delicious! Yummy! We kept going back!
The salad bar was nice. We just like to have all our food at one time I guess. Moderno was nice to try but we won’t do it again.
Our first cruise at ages 51 and 62 will be in January of 2019 and we are going out of New Orleans (I am excited about that as I LOVE New Orleans - hubby has never been) on NCL Breakaway. Got the Free at Sea deals so love the explanation. I was worried based on some of the reviews but my Shipmate App peeps set my mind at ease. Love the interaction with you guys. So glad that I stumbled on this

As a platinum member I just returned from a Jade sailing and was disappointed with Moderno's. I have been spoiled by the larger salad bars on the bigger ships. It was also disclosed by the Cruise Next Mgr that Modernos will be replaced by an "American BBQ" style specialty restaurant. And also the Starbucks will actually be a Starbucks store. No comments were made about the following 4 smaller upcoming ships, but renditions were shown and they look awesome.
We are NOT disappointed that Moderno's is going. We ate their once just for the " experience '...but that was enough. The replacement.......Q, is a Texas style BBQ restaurant. Can't wait to try it in June on the Bliss.
I am nervous about free style cruising. I love to dress up for dinner and appreciate the formal experience but NCL had the best deal for the Havana cruise. Glad that T - shirts and flip flops are not approved !I also like dining with others to meet new folks. You two are too much fun!
The best part of NCL is that you can dress up or dress down based on your preferences & lifestyle. It's for everyone !!

I'm so happy I'm watching your videos. We wrote off La Cucina as we were unimpressed. But the revamp I thought.. maybe.. and then the menu. Capricciosa pizza.. my favorite. I can't find it in the US anywhere. Fell in love with it in Italy last year. So NCL Jewel.. here I come and I want pizza!! :-)

Savor and Taste are a little less busy and fussy than The Manhattan Room on the bigger NCL cruises for dinner. The Manhattan Room can sometimes have a live band playing and or singers and some folks get up and dance as well. That was a little distracting since it's me and mom so we tend to stay in Savor and Taste if we are sitting down for a later post 7 pm meal.

Hi Helen!! You are going to LOVE the Gem. She is one of our favorite NCL ships. We are so happy to hear you love our videos. With the dining package you can eat at La Cucina (Italian), Cagney's (Steak House), Le Bistro (French), Moderno (Brazilian Steak House) and Teppanyaki (Hibachi Style Asian)!! If you would like to eat at the Sushi Bar you will have to pay. We are sorry :( but for some reason they don't include it in any of there dining packages!! We think the pricing for Sushi is reasonable and it's fresh and delicious from what we hear but neither of us eats Sushi so we are going on what other cruisers have told us. I hope this helps!!

Do you know if there is a great outdoors dining area or something comparable on the NCL Escape?
Thanks. I don't believe the Escape has a Great Outdoors attached to the buffet. However, it does have "The Water Front" which is an area that basically wraps around the ship. This is an outdoor eating area that has different sections attached to all the restaurants on that deck allowing you to eat outside. What a treat, indeed!!

Neither can we. We just attended a private presentation of the NCL Bliss while sailing on the NCL Jade. We are still on the ship currently docked in Curacao .

when you say you pay in advance, i only saw a charge of $0 dollars show up. no i'm not paying anything its just a reservation. there are 5 of going (3 children). i had to book seating for 6. hope there not going to try to charge me for the ghost person.
Keep watch on your bill at all times and be ready to do some disputes, if necessary. It happens !

We've cruised 4times with Carnival. This is our 1st with NCL. My husband can't fathom paying for food aboard the ship. I am open to at least experiencing one of the fee restaurants. Are the Fee Restaurants worth it????

When I was recently on the Gem, the waiter told us they removed the Mexican restaurants in all their ships. He said the new CEO didn't want them there or something like that. Anyways, that's a bummer since we loved Los Lobos on the Dawn.
Not sure what the waiter was talking about since they are all still on the ships....including the new Encore, just launched. Could it be that maybe Los Lobos won't be part of their new Leonardo class ships coming soon ?? Encore was the last of the Breakaway Plus class ships to be built.

Hey guys. Please help! I’m taking my wife on the getaway in 3 weeks and I want to make the cruise great for her. It’s our honeymoon. We already have the free at sea and we’re going to Cagney, moderno, and le bistro. I want to add a 4th. I’ve narrowed the choices down to la cucina, ocean blue or teppanyaki. Do you have any opinion on which is the best one? Thank you
Italian....Seafood or Japanese ? Well, we think La Cucina still has the older menu, which we love. Teppanyaki is definitely " an experience " and the food IS awesome...but we've already done it. We are NOT seafood people...so that's out for us. Only you can answer this question.

Yes and Yes !!! Walking by a phone........pick it up and place an order..........on a lounger, don't want to get up.........flag a crew member !!! They are there to serve you and they will be glad to do it.

Actually, O'Sheehan's was named after Kevin O'Sheehan...who WAS the President of NCL awhile back. NCL is slowly changing over O'Sheehan's to " The Local " (pretty much same thing)

Wow !!! Your daughter must be related to Kevin !!! Pizza & ice cream is EVERYTHING !!! We always pack snacks to bring (all store bought, individually wrapped) yes....some of the specialty restaurants do serve breakfast.

Mom and I like Osheehans on the disembarkation day as you can order light and nibble. The specialty restaurants are great. I'm on my 7th NCL cruise and ate at all of the specialty dining options. Cagneys steakhouse and the French Restaurant our our favorites. We tend to do the sit down restaurants for breakfast and lunch and order things a la carte so as to not fill up if we know we have a specialty restaurant for dinner booked. The worst is going to the upgraded speicalty restaurants and not being all that hungry! Save room for the appetizers, dinner and deserts in those places!

Well, Savor and Taste are smaller, more intimate restaurants (same menus). The Tropicana is the huge dining room, people are used to seeing on cruise ships. All are free complimentary venues, with the same menus.

Hey guys, quick question. I found a site off of google that had sample menus from the different restaurants. I was just wondering, I see an asterisk next to most if not all dishes on the Cagney’s menu. How do you know what is included and what is extra? btw: I have the free at sea specialty restaurant deal. Thank you!
Your deal entitles you to appetizer, soup/salad, entree & dessert. Anything extra that you order...you pay.
Is the free at sea offers really “free”? I hear there’s service charges and gratuities charges for restaurant and beverage packages. I concerned about this hidden cost. Can’t find info on NCL website. Looking to book 1st cruise ever... Alaska Cruise on Bliss.

Yes.....any dining package or drink package comes with gratuity charges. For our November NCL Getaway cruise, we were able to take advantage of their booking special of " Take Five ", back in 2017. We got ....1. Unlimited beverage package 2. Specialty Dining package 3. 250 min. WIFI 4. $50 off Shore Excursions 5. 3rd / 4th Guest free. We will have to pay $ 249.12 on the food / liquor packages.
@@Cruisingwithwheels I was about to take their free offers when I did some research and found that the free WIFI doesn't include streaming or VPN so if you want to use your phone with VPN that free offer will not work. VPN and streaming unlimited access is $29.99 per day. Also the Free Unlimited Bar results in an automatic gratuity charge of $20.80 per day added to your account, Not worth it for me since I would only normally have one cocktail per day. None of those beverage packages include bottled water. Thats another purchase option. Be careful of those freebees anyone cruising for the first time, its not really free, its just a hook to catch you at sea!! Lol
Can you order multiple food items in the restaurants like you can on carnival ships?
yes...anything you want in the complimentary restaurants. In the specialty restaurants....any additional orders...you're paying.

For the specialty restaurants, when you say things are a la carte, what does that mean? Can you get like 2 appetizers per person? or is it limited to one app, one entre, and one dessert max? thank you
A la carte means you pay for each item, just like a regular restaurant.
You can get as many as you want. A la cart means it comes on plate by itself

We got off of NCL's Escape three days ago (November 18, 2018) and O'Sheehan's is still alive. Our only complaint was the huge amount of kids on the ship. Every time I walked past Club Entourage there was a sign up saying "Club Entourage running at max capacity". The whole ship was just loud all the time, except for at O'Sheehan's and Savor. We didn't try any other "fine dining". Our first cruise where kids were so noticed. We like all of our kids and grandkids, but we were not thrilled with having kids on both sides and above us, we had a kid screaming from one cabin or another just about any time someone was awake.
Our worst nightmare !!! LOL
Which of the NCL cruise is the most kids friendly
Not sure how to answer this question.....An NCL cruise is an NCL cruise, they pretty much have the same stuff.....arcades, kids pool area, play area, etc.... However.....the newer bigger ships have the Go-Karts & Laser Tag, that the other ships don't.
Do you think the free at sea specialty restaurant package is worth picking?
That would depend on what YOU think. NCL usually has 4 or 5 options of "free items". We usually pick the one that is the best value for us. For example, we tend not to drink much so we never select the drink package. In contrast, we enjoy the specialty restaurants so most times we do choose the dining package as one of our "Free At Sea" promotions. I picked the internet and the meal package. I'm too cheap for cruise line shore excursions, and don't drink alcohol, so not much choice left!

Sorry, but the beer and any other drinks at the O'Sheehan's bar are not free. If you're a big drinker...then a package is for you. If not....just pay by the glass when you feel the urge.

Hi Antoine !!! No, we have never stayed in the haven rooms. The cost is just TOO extravagant for us........unless we won the lottery or something. Besides....the last encounter we had we " Haven " guests was less than desirable and you couldn't pay us a million $$$ to stay with some of these people !!!!! LOL (ps....a lot of Haven rooms are NOT handicap accessible on the ships we've been on, that i would need)
