MASSIVE POMEGRANATE JUICING!! | How to Extract and Make Pomegranate Juice from Seeds

  • Making pomegranate juice is more involved than other type of juice like citrus or apple juice. There ARE a few steps to making pomegranate juice efficiently, and I walk through some of those steps in this video. Whether you're going to drink your pomegranate juice fresh, or use the juice for making pomegranate jelly (like I do), or making sparkling pomegranate wine, this method should work well for you. This is especially true if you're trying to make a lot of juice. I was especially impressed with how much juice my new Koios "masticating" juicer extracted from the arils. I can't wait to try this on some other fruit.

    Pomegranates are MESSY. Pomegranates are time consuming! Getting the juice out of pomegranates easily is not possible without an expensive machine. That being said, the methods I show in this video will allow you to MORE EASILY remove the pomegranate arils for either eating fresh, or creating pomegranate juice. Pomegranates are full of antioxidants, vitamins, and most importantly, flavor! The masticating juicer I used produced a crazy amount of juice, and seemed to squeeze every last drop out of the pomegranate arils.

    I just crushed about 100 in a manual juicer press. I didn't remove the seeds, just cut it in half and crush. The juice came out very sweet with no pith. I'm now making wine with it.

      @TheBusyGardener  Před 7 měsíci

      Awesome! A press is by far the easiest and quickest way to use pomegranates. I'm always a little OCD about not being able to crush all the arils using that method. But it's definitely got some pluses if you're not worried about missing arils.

    HI you look happy.
    Thanks for sharing.
    I first thank God and the fruits for provision when many starve.
    Then
    I usually press the outside skin to loosen the seeds before opening.
    I cut them open on half a dining plate saving the first cut juice .Then I take out seeds without hitting the skins.
    I separate the pith quickly with my fingertips
    No water involved.
    The pulp container ,the seed container, and juicer are all very near each other so it's quicker , hardly any mess.
    Then I juice.

    If your goal is to save all the seeds and make no mess you can cut a pentagon around the top and make shallow cuts all the way around. The top should pop off with ease and the rest can be peeled like orange slices. Then you can manually pop off the seeds into a blender and give it a light pulse to release the juices. Then you pour it through a fine mesh strainer and gently press it down to squeeze out any remaining juices

    • @TheBusyGardener

      Thanks Moises! That's how I take the arils out when I'm sitting on the couch eating a single fruit or two. For 60 fruit, that "pop off the arils" method takes way too long. This method itself took an hour or two.

      Hi Lisa! I've gotten my mulch in 2 ways: 1) I've had a load of shredded mulch dropped into my pickup and hauled it myself (1-2 yards). I know Highland Nursery in North Upland or Wolfenbarger in Chino have mulch piles that work for this method. 2)The other method I've used is having a load of 40 yards brought in by truck for our main backyard orchard by Wolfenbarger, and more recently Viramontes Express in Corona.
      You may check on facebook marketplace or craigslist for tree companies who will sometimes deliver shredded/chipped mulch for free if you're unable to get a load on your own. I've steered clear of this because I've wanted more control over the materials delivered. Wolfenbarger's "Chino chip" or "Claremont chip" provide a pretty diverse material makeup, and are their least expensive option: www.ofwolfinbargerinc.com/wood/

    That oxidizing and heating the juice up stuff is BS. It's just marketing crap to sell masticating juicers ... which you are technically not even supposed to use to juice anything with seeds? Your juicer there looks pretty new ... does it actually say you can juice pomegranates? I used to make fresh cherry juice with a centrifugal juicer and it was super delicious. I am making Pomegranate juice this season and I end up picking the seeds out and crushing them by hand in a nut milk bag. I think I get just about all the juice out, but it takes a long time. Next I will try blending it in a blender and then straining the juice through the nut milk bag and see if that is any quicker. I wonder how much difference it really makes in the taste of the juice to blend or squeeze it with a little endocarp ( the white stuff ) in it. Supposedly that is where a lot of nutrients are.

    • @TheBusyGardener
      @TheBusyGardener  Před 2 lety

      This masticating juicer does a great job of leaving little juice in the pulp. I'm not sure I agree with your assessment. Any blade spinning at high speed is going to introduce a lot of air into the juice by whipping it. Juice made this way will oxidize more quickly due to greater surface area exposure to air as it's being juiced, speeding up degradation.
      To answer the the taste/endocarp question: the pith/endocarp is bitter and slightly astringent, and in my experience is something you want as little of as possible

      @@TheBusyGardener
      > Juice made this way will oxidize more quickly due to greater surface area exposure to air as it's being juiced, speeding up degradation
      That is true, but the question is to what extent, and is it significant? I've heard nothing but claims and really no scientific evidence. Remember only 20% of air is oxygen, and that oxygen would be all over the place, not just to anti-oxidants. And what is the rate of that reaction?
      We are so used to being herded and lied to by exaggeration of what seems people are used to accepting anything and questioning very little.

    • @TheBusyGardener
      @TheBusyGardener  Před 2 lety

      @@justgivemethetruth I'm into thinking critically through claims as well. I guess I'd say this: there is enough oxygen to quickly brown an apple left out. If I was TRYING to speed the process up, I'd whip air into it. Undoubtedly the less individual molecules in contact with air would mean less oxidization, and would mainly happen at the surface level for an undisturbed liquid.

    • @justgivemethetruth
      @justgivemethetruth Před 2 lety

      @@TheBusyGardener
      Those are good points, and what I am trying to point out is that I don't know how to evaluate them. in your apple example, the oxidation occurs on the surface, and we don't really know what percentage of the anti-oxidants are affected.
      Undoubted you hasten the reaction if you increase the surface area, but still, where are the anti-oxidants and how many of them are oxidized and what does oxidation mean ... i.e are all of the anti-oxidants neutralized?
      Oxidation can be prevented with lemon juice.
      I also recall when I was a kid all the adults saying that brown on the apple doesn't hurt it.
      I think people fall victim to the idea that perfection can be achieved by linear thinking, that is, is a little is good, a lot is better in proportion.
      This is something I've thought about, but not something I obsess or worry about. If I think I am not getting enough nutrients from my pomegranate juice ... I'd happily just drink more! ;-)

      I might be wrong on this issue, but i've seen a lot of articles about this, and they say that citrus fruits like lemons which are very acidic actually turn alkaline in the body, so i'm guessing that other citrus fruits would do this too? If you are juicing them and then drinking the juice almost immediately, then i think it wouldn't really matter, same with the apples discussion, if you drink the juices immediately then they are ok, if you leave them in the fridge and drink later maybe not so much? I just drink them straight away so can't comment on leaving it till later to drink it.

    There are better ways to juice pomegranate and less messy, I juice around 350 to 400 large size pomegranate fruits a year and my way is much less messy with higher yield
