- Liam Lawson wins the 1st DTM race of the new season! The 19-year-old started in the DTM for the first time and left the competition behind him. Vincent Abril was 2nd, Maximilian Götz completed the podium.

@onisav. U are clueless. It’s his debut season in f2. You clearly haven’t been watching the championship as you would know he’s been robbed of some fantastic results through no fault of his own. He would/should be way higher in the standings if he didn’t get so unlucky

Ellis' car broke down and Gore got punted by Glock and ended up backwards in T1

for all who miss class one cars - check Super GT. I think this is better than what we had last year and this is unique for GT3, a series with no driver change.
Couple years ago they had the DTMs and Super GTs race together

I remember when DTM was great, with Calibras, Alfas and other cars that are affordable. This is just GT3
Agree, this is just GT3 with less cars, miss those 90s DTM, great times.
They messed up the Class 1 rules (not touring cars either), but besides GT3 the only other immediate off-the-shelve solutions were GT4, TCR and BTCC GTC rules. They fit the "touring car" description more than GT3 but they are not fast enough categories.

I think that in these days we can find the REAL "DTM SOUL" in the Australian V8 Supercar.
I really miss the Touring Championships around Europe....
the Aussie V8 are far from touring cars since long ago.
watch BTCC then.
Just because the series keep pretending that the series is a touring car series due history it doesn't make the actual cars touring cars.
The prior DTM Class 1 regs and Aussie Supercars are silhuette cars.

Your highlights package needs some work to it. Race start - A pitstop pass for the lead - A spin - The leader finishes the race... That is not a highlight video worth making, sorry.
For the info provided in this "highlights" video, they might as well have said, "Liam wins from 7th" and the whole thing would be 10 seconds long.
Amazing first race for AF Corse. Both drivers in the top 5, Alex just shy of the podium and Liam for the win. Good job AF Corse 🙌🙌🙌
EVERYONE complaining about having gt3 Cars instead of DTM prototypes... GT3 is closer to the Tourenwagen of the 80s/90s than those prototype cars they used for the last year's, at least gt3 somewhat resembles the normal road cars, they have the same engines etc, the DTM cars of the last year's HAD NOTHING TODO with the production cars...
Yup. The prior Class 1 cars were somehow "touring cars" but Super GT uses the same base rules and no one calls them touring cars.

That's why I find it weird. Isn't DTM touring cars and aren't GT cars closer to touring cars or production cars. They call themselves purist but they don't even know what touring cars are 😂

I think the point is that "old" DTM was different. There are plenty of GT3 series out there, now DTM has basically just become one of them.

Cool cars, but literally not touring cars at all and overall a failed set of regs. One minute silence not deserved.
Do you mean last year's? Those were like LMP2 cars, atleast this one has cars that are production vehicles.

@@LorenzoClara97 if I am not wrong. RedBull is the team. Ferrari is the manufacturer. RedBull has partnered with squadra AF Corse and they are using Ferrari car. So technically team is RedBull.
Manufacturer in DTM race are Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren (selected races) and Mercedes.

@@ModernDIYCraftsman no, technically the team is Italian, and it's called Amato Ferrari corse, “AF CORSE” and they use Ferrari as constructor, and they have a collaboration with Redbull and alpha tauri as main sponsor ..

its a real shame. As soon as they allowed it everyone just switched to GT style cars with DTM rules because a ferrari 458 has way better aero than an Audi A4....

May as well call it F1 or spacecraft racing. Everyone knows this obviously is not DTM! This is GT3 racing the same as gt world challenge but with slight tweaks.. slightly higher fuel flow etc. Like I said about the Toyota LMP1 can cough I mean hyper car!. You can stick a label that says pineapple on a potato… but at the end of the day the potato is still a potato!. Just stupid calling this DTM.. it’s meaningless!.

Mercedes No.1 🙃 Audi was also very strong but this year they are not competing in DTM anymore

It's like GT World Challenge, but with shorter racing and fewer cars
Ironically the race was held exactly at the same time as GT World Challenge at Zandvoort (the top GT3 series).
Wonder if all the GT3 series in europe will stay spaced apart or if most competitors will jump to one series

Since DRS and the Power Button were introduced to the Prototypes of the last years, DTM started to suck. GT3 cars are way better and how touring cars should be like.

Why does DTM have GT3 cars now?
They need them to actually survive as a racing series
The switch to GT3 is just a transition before the electric in 2023. Last year, a prototype drove in the final round of Hockenheim.
They messed up the prior regs, became too expensive and Mercedes and Audi pulled out leaving only BMW.
GT3 was the best likely intermediate solution.
