    I got my Xbox One Elite controller roughly more than a month ago. I use all the paddles, have a number of different control set-ups for different games, and I got mine at a VERY good deal. I didn't need one as i'm just a casual gamer, but since I got it, I can't see myself using anything less. I too have heard some of the negative reviews, yet all the functions still work just fine, and nothing's coming loose or anything.
    I'm deeply satisfied with this product and feel it is totally worth the price.

      @@PoetsAges I have 2 Elite controllers one since launch and the white one when it came out. Shortly after getting my white the OG bumper broke. User error, I dropped it. Having the controller for over 3 years with ZERO issues. I think people forget to factor in their usage into product reviews. Don't get me wrong defects happen all the time but most of the problems are from people who share controllers with family and friends or have people around messing with stuff. If you're hard on a controller this controller will eventually break, all products will break if you are hard on them. I just paid $270 for a scuff vantage and just got it in today for my PS4. If I could use my Elite controller for any system I'd never buy another controller. I'm not satisfied with the Scuf for many reasons but the main is build quality, piss poor paddle implementation, placement and feel. Any controller without removable power is a no go for me. I also don't understand the people who say it's easy to miss press the paddles. I'm going to say user error for that because I have large hands and since getting used to having it I never press on accident.

    You would think that they would've updated the Elite controller and added Bluetooth to it.

    • @shadows1987
      @shadows1987 Před 6 lety +23

      I honestly really hope they introduce a V2 Elite Controller. Updated with Bluetooth, and finally address the several defects with the controller such as grips coming off and thumbsticks coming loose and not responding. As well as maybe a locking mechanism for the sticks. Like when you magnetically attach them like you do now, you could also twist them to lock them in place. I drop my controller all the time and rip it off my TV stand by the headset cord. It happens WAY too often, and I always have an issue because the parts of the controller just explode all over the room. I've lost one tall stick and one normal stick because of this. They're still floating around somewhere but rn idk where they went.
      And maybe even cut the price of the V2 Elite down to like $120 or maybe $100.
      Since my elite has various battle scars it'd be nice to get my hands on a new updated version.

      He seems to not handle his stuff with good care, but even if you do, the Elite Controller is not built to last. I treated it very carefully, yet I still had many issues. The mic stopped working via the headphone jack, but it gladly was within the warranty period. Got a brand new one. Then it missed inputs, which gladly could be fixed with a new cable. Now the grip is coming off. Both my controllers had serious troubles within 1000 hours of usage. For that asking price this is not acceptable. But it is still the best controller, IF it is working.

    I've used my Elite controller for almost 2 years now. It's absolutely my favorite controller and I can't imagine using anything else. I don't think I can enjoy playing without the paddles on the back. I've had to use a regular controller on occasion and I find it annoying to have to take my right thumb off the stick in order to use a button to jump or revive. Being able to hold down a paddle to activate or revive while simultaneously still being able to look and shoot in different directions is game-changing.
    I've become so dependent on this controller that I take it with me I plan on playing somewhere else.
    I find this controller better than the controllers made by Scuf, because Scuf controllers are hard-coded as it doesn't have the customization software that the elite controller has. Imo, this software is the primary factor placing the MS Elite over 3rd party competitor's controller.
    All of this being written, my biggest complaint about this controller are the bumper buttons. I find the plastic bumper buttons to be flimsy and whatever attachment hinge they use breaks about every 5 to 6 months. I prefer they be metal. The plastic bumper becomes loose and nearly falls out. As it shifts out of place, the button is unusable until I shake it back into position
    Fortunately, I bought this controller from Best Buy with the protection plan. For $20, when the button breaks I take it back to Best Buy and replace it with a new controller. I do have to buy the protection plan over again each time, but paying $20 to get a $150 controller is a phenomenal deal. My opinion on this controller is heavily biased because of this protection plan, without it I would have never replaced it again.
    An important thing to keep in mind is that I use this controller 35-45 hours per week. This is an important factor as it's far more hours than most people would do.
    Btw, as of writing this comment, I have just replaced my controller a couple days ago and am on my 4th.
    In closing, this controller is my absolute favorite and is my go-to controller. As I wrote, I cannot imagine going back to a controller that doesn't have paddles. My opinion, again, is heavily biased because of the protection plan, but I must be fair and can't forget the amount of hours per week that I put on this controller.

    One thing that puts this above after market and 3rd party controllers is the fact that it's microsofts. That means it has on console has the software, and will always be up to date. You don't have to buy or own a PC/Laptop to map buttons or change settings. The average "console only" players now have a controller they can macro/map, change, and play with without the need of extra software or PC knowledge. This alone is worth an extra 40 dollars in my opinion.

    Actually did an unboxing video of mine because I was so excited to find one. After 2 years with it, I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending it based on its low durability. 13 months after purchase, the rubber grips began to bubble, then start to peal away from the plastic. Once it reached the seam I Krazy-glued it, but not long after the other side began to bubble also. Soon after, the left stick began to have a little bit of play where if you were switching the thumbsticks, the round metal piece would move up a bit then fall back into place as the magnet released. Most recently, my RB snapped. I ended up peeling away all the rubber, ordering replacement grips, and a replacement bumper. This is one of 5 controllers I own and take very good care of, and aside from my first that has a d-pad that doesn't always register down, this Elite just didn't hold up. My replacement parts will run about 25 - 30 dollars. Love the vision and features of this controller, but there are some key quality issues.

Instead of purchasing another Scuff and before the Xbox Elite was released, several years ago I went with a company called Battle Beaver Customs and got one of the prototype models with 6 extra buttons on the rear shell, it was somewhat expensive to build and have sent to Australia, but I've had no problems with it whatsoever.

    The only bad think about the controller is it's durability! It is bad! Have it for about 1.5 years now and already the RB button is loos (jou can pull of of sideways), the rubbers on the back comes loos on both side and the rubbers for the poke sticks are gone.
    For the rest it is a great controller, it feels great in the hand (big hands) and has a nice weight to it! Also i feel like you can putt more feeling in the buttons when you press them.

    Simple answer? Yes. I've got two - one a year old and another just over a month old, and the only 'defect' I've had is the rubber separating from the grip on the older one about a week ago (which a blob of glue fixed no problem). Much better than any other 'premium' controller I've used and so good I picked up an adaptor to use one with my PS4 too.

      It's a wired adaptor, which you wouldn't need on PC (you just plug and go), but it's a Brook one if you're still interested www.brookaccessory.com/detail/07484504/ . You might like some of the other features it offers (such as the 'turbo' setting), but it's pricey just for that. If you want to use it wirelessly the the MS adaptor is the only option.

    @tropolite Před 6 lety +17

    I've had the Elite since release and I'm on my third unit. The first two, no doubt because I grip the unit quite hard and the grip gets hot, the rubber of the first two started peeling off which made it uncomfortable to hold. This latest one seems to be holding up better than the first two.
    I have had some issues where my Elite has micro disconnects from the console. That could be due to my console getting old (Day One version), so I'm looking forward to trying my Elite with my Scorpio Edition X console that is coming soon. Hopefully the micro dropouts will be resolved then. Great review.

      Thanks for the insight. I've not experienced any issues with the Elite. I doubt you're console being old being the reason for the micro disconnects. I would bet it has to do with too much wireless interference. Get an app to check your wireless saturation. If it doesn't need to be wireless then wire up the device. Be stingy with what devices are allowed to be wireless.

      i have the OG white model and my Elite controller does disconnect when i use a microphone, to fix this i use a wire when playing with a mic. just got my scorpio yesterday but didnt have the chance to play with a friend yet to test if it still disconnects
      as for the controller itself i wouldnt change it for anything, i bought it 2 years ago and use it an average of 25h a week since, i even bought a cronus max plus to use my elite on my ps4, every game benefits having the back paddles

      I'm on my second with the peeling rubber problem. It's a huge problem as it doesn't just come unstuck, it expands, so it won't fit back on the curved shape of the controller even if you apply fresh glue. I wish they'd release an updated model fixing this problem and some others.

    The fact that I can map my thumb stick buttons to the paddles, has saved me hundreds of dollars! I fly through stock controllers because I wear the sticks out sooo fast! I noticed you didn’t mention that the part of the stick that grinds down the fastest is a metal component, so it lasts forever! I personally don’t play on PC, so the Bluetooth feature doesn’t affect me, but overall this has been the best controller I’ve ever owned!

    Would not recommend for the price. I have had 2 of these! thumb sticks end up becoming very loose. I sent one back as it was in warranty. But my second one was just out of warranty when it went. 150day warranty is not enough for these considering the price of them!! Microsoft knows of this defect but still has not changed the manufacturing of their product.

    • @Death2unicorns
      @Death2unicorns Před 6 lety +12

      R Alcroft same happened to me. Both analog sticks became very loose. The left started drifting very badly and eventually wouldn't register when I pushed up. Was just out of warranty so I'm stuck with a broken $150 controller. I've never had an issue with any other Xbox controller. My original Xbox, 360, and stock Xbox one controllers all still work fine. I've read numerous other instances of this happening. It's a joke Microsoft won't fix this issue.

      I think you must be able to buy just the thumb sticks from somewhere and replace them. A lot of people are saying open it up and put a small piece of plastic or cotton from a q tip. That seems to fix it. But for how long. I have 2 of these elites. My second one hasn't went yet. When it does hopefully I can swap out the stick and make one good one from the two.

    • @Death2unicorns
      @Death2unicorns Před 6 lety +1

      R Alcroft yea I actually did the qtip trick when it first started getting sloppy! It fixed it for the most part. But then the left analog stick got a bad drift and stopped registering when I pushed up. My next route to go is ordering a new analog stick module. Found some on Amazon. Just have to solder the new one in. Which I'll probably do cause I really like the controller.

    I admit they look and feel great, but they have so many problems. I've had two of these controllers and on BOTH I've experienced "drifting" on the left stick after a few months (where it thinks the left stick is being pushed up slightly even when you're not touching it). Also on BOTH those controllers, the bumbers buttons broke - the LB and RB buttons are made from a single piece of flimsy plastic. Also the thumbsticks get "lose" very quickly (where they move freely without resistance and before getting to the point of registering input) And lastly, the thumbstick rubber tops tend to crack and break easily. I don't even consider myself a "rough" player. Overall, they are poorly designed and some parts are made out of cheap materials. I wouldn't waste my money again.

    • @alphagamma1289
      @alphagamma1289 Před 5 lety

    I have only one complaint about the Elite Controller, and it's the most severe from my perspective.
    The resistance of the analogue sticks is too low. Every game I play feels too loose, especially compared to the 360 controller.
    This lack of "feel" made it uncomfortable to play for me, since if I have to put in no effort at all to move the sticks, I feel disconnected to the game somehow.
    The 2016 standard Xbox One model fixed this, so I prefer it to the Elite.
    Wish there was a way to adjust it, but it's the one thing (and for me the most important one) that made me return it after 2 days.
    Everything else is perfect on this though.

    Buy it, but the first thing you should do when you get it home is open it up and remove the green sync button from the controller. The design of the controller makes it so the sync button makes LB button twist a little at its weakest point every time you press it. This causes the LB button to fail very quickly under normal use.

    After using a Razer Wildcat for about 2 years I ordered a Scuf Infinty Controller which was absolutelly awful (like the pedals were hard to press and no way to change layouts or anything) so I quickly resold it. Then, I got an Elite Controller last month and oh boy this is for sure the best controller I've used so far. The customizability is really incredible and allowed me to have a very unique pedal layout. Plus having all the extra options like analog stick response and such is great.
    In addition to that, it not having Bluetooth doesn't matter to me at all as I primarily use it for playing Rocket League at an above average level (Champion 3) so in addition to my 144hz monitor I obviously don't want any input lag so playing wireless isn't an option for me anyway. It seems like this Controller is kind of targeted to an esport audience anyway so I can imagine quite a few people who consider buying this not to have a problem with the lack of Bluetooth while I do understand the criticism though. Just wanted to give a different perspective on the matter.
    Anyway I for one absolutely love this controller and I defiinitely think it was worth spending 120€ on it.

    That's a personal experience though, I've heard plenty of people that had issues with it. I still praise the Elite whenever it comes up though because I bought a Scuf in feb of 2015 for 170$ that had less features despite costing more. Only downside: rubber at the back gets stinky.

      @TheShapingSickness Před 5 lety

      OK I've had it for almost two years and these are the issues so far:
      Rubber grips are HORRIBLE! They get stinky and they expand and bubble until they come off. DON'T BUY GOR THIS SOLE REASON!
      For a while the mic wasn't working with the elite controller but it did with other controllers, that was weird...
      No other issues.

    It's a goddamn shame that they couldn't have included one of these in the 500.00 Xbox One X that I just bought. That's the lowest of the low. Plus, they were too cheap to even include a cord. Really, Microsoft?????
    I'm a PlayStation guy, so this was NOT a very good first impression of XBox.
    But...I'm immensely enjoying the Xbox. Lovin' me some Red Dead Redemption.
    Here's one of the other problems I have with Xbox...
    THE dumbest thing about the Xbox one X is the fact that I have to disable my internet before putting in the disc of a new game that I want to download. Why, you ask? Because if I don't, Microsoft has the blasted machine programmed to download both the game AND any updates...over the internet. Yes, that's right: instead of downloading the data straight from the disc...it attempts to do it FROM THE INTERNET...EVERY FREAKING TIME. There's no feature to disable this, it requires me disconnecting EVERY time. Do you know how long it takes to download 170 gb's OVER THE INTERNET (like with Quantum Break)? How the geniuses over at Microsoft thought this was a good idea is beyond me. I'm baffled and all-out puzzled at the idea of having such a useless and irrational feature as this. Who does this benefit? It's a chronic inconvenience.
    To make matters worse, it took me 3 days before I learned why it was taking so long for a game to install (on account of being new to the Xbox one experience). I was pulling my hair out and I was just about to return the console...but then I learned what the issue was. But, even still; my ps4 downloads games 10X as fast. I understand that 4k takes longer to install and update, but at the end of the day...is it really worth it? Well, considering ps4 is slaughtering Xbox in sales...we have the answer to that question.
    I'm a PlayStation guy, but I just recently bought an Xbox one X so as to escape the toxic tribalism that exists among gamers. I like to have a front row seat to both sides of the equation. Yes, the Xbox one X is the most powerful console, but Sony's system is far more streamlined. There's NOTHING smooth about the Xbox one X. Even the home screen and overall interface is a jumbled, disorganized, chaotic and sloppy mess. The ps4 is all about ease of use and it sure as hell doesn't inconvenience it's customers with having to disable a feature so it'll do something that it should have been doing all along.
    With all of the above in mind: I'm REALLY enjoying my time with the Xbox... but it's no mystery as to why the ps4 sells twice as many consoles as Xbox. I could list a dozen other things that Sony does smoother and better, but for the sake of time, I'll just stick with the above.
    Ugh...the install feature is driving me batty. Does anyone know why in the flying fuck they'd proceed with such a needless and useless feature?????

    Great controller but not at 150 dollars. My elite controllers Left bumper popped out, opened it up, saw the plastic bumper snapped. Was able to buy a replacement bumper. Later down now the controller suffers from stick drift. Gonna have to solder and replace it. All in all its a great controller but wish it kinda had Bluetooth and I wish Microsoft's accessory warranty was longer then 3 months. I was way past.

    4:24 Is true that a better than the standard controller D-pad is needed for fighting games, but imo you have the elite D-pads the other way around. The "satellite disk" D-pad is better for shooters etc for it allows a thumb not already on top of it find the desired direction quickly by providing extended tactile feedback (for weapon, mode switch and such). But, for fighting games the disk does not perform well for quarter circle motions, diagonal jump inputs and such; I know it may look like it does but in true is far from it. On the other hand the "traditional" D-pad of the elite, is one of the best D-pads out there, an improvement over the standard controller's and really functional for fighters.

    I use the full button mapping in every game I played. I feel it can take a break on turn base scenario games, to if your a halo fan, noob fans with plasma grunt pistol might like, or dislike how nimble you can be charge base weapons can switch to rapid fire focus with using the trigger switches. Also don't mess with trigger switches on racing games that are on pro level
    "it feels like I had increase my reaction timing." but I have tested this nimble effects if I active trigger switches around corners it levels off the speed of vehicle, then again if I shifting back into speed I find I'm loaded with more button sequences, and alot more nimble concentrate that I find if keep up with intention span of racing.
    - it might lead with off perfection.

    Nice review and good comments on all points. Yep, lack of Bluetooth. Go figure. But all else fantastic. I've had zero issues after two years with the elite. As reliable as day one. Created two profiles for Destiny 1/2, that I map to the slide switch. Profile 2 employs two paddles mapped to the R/L shoulder buttons for Sparrow racing. A game changer. Make sure you use the Xbox Accessories app to change the range of motion for the throttle trigger so that when using the physical trigger stops, a half pull registers as full throttle (I found this out the hard way when everyone was speeding past me). Or switch the hard stop each, time but I find it easier to modify the trigger pull on what is considered a full pull (in my case, 65% of normal).

    The only issue I have is the fact you can’t adjust the axis on the analog sticks. Our thumbs are resting at roughly 45-60 degrees. Wouldn’t it be more natural for forward, back, left, and right to be set in this natural position? I wonder if Microsoft has the ability to do a firmware update to allow this option?

    If you're a forza player, the elite controller makes playing manual with clutch a dream, and is much cheaper than a full steering wheel and shifter setup, especially if you can find one on sale around $100. Been loving mine so far, and even though i dont have the time to play games like i used to, it was definitely worth the purchase

    You should absolutely buy an Elite controller. While your at it add a chat pad to it. It feels amazing in your hands. I recommend to buy it from Best Buy with a 2 yr extended warranty for $20. I play a lot and these do suffer wear and tear. Also the grips expanded and come off if you have sweaty hands over time.

      @@HoeplessAlexis its trash! Save your money. Or if you get it, absolutely buy the extended warranty. I can almost garuntee you that the bumpers will break within a year. I play moderately and my LB just broke after about a year. Its held together by a thin piece of plastic. I couldn't believe how cheap it was when I saw it. You can take the best care of this control and itll still break on you one day. Definitely not worth the price.

    So the back paddles are to help you press other buttons that are not able to be used. They way that I hold my controller is like holding a Nintendo 64 controller, not exactly holding it like it but my pointer finger is actually able to press two buttons and my thumb can press the other two buttons, and my middle finger does the rest with the right trigger and right number.
