Da Ponte just translated in Italian, almost word for word, the French piece of Beaumarchais, "Le Mariage de Figaro". He has absolutely no merit for this work.
@@fan2jnrc Almost all the operatic subjects (the plot) are not original but are inspired by literary or theatrical works. Evidently Mozart liked Beaumarcais' comedy and entrusted himself to Da Ponte for the libretto which is quite another thing. It is therefore not a translation from French at all and the credit goes entirely to Da Ponte

@Leonardo's Truth Sometimes it's hard to remember that she is playing a young man. That is the tradition of "trouser roles", which has been done since Handel's time. Suspending belief to accept a woman playing a young man is no different than believing people fall in love in 15 seconds or sing after being stabbed and dying. But, Leonardo, thank you for being sensitive to the fact that so many women are assaulted and this should not be made light of.
Glorious! I have to admit, though, that I spent the whole time trying to remember Frederica von Stade's name. Only when they showed her in the bows did it come to me, and I cried aloud, "Flicka!" The play between Cherubino and Figaro is delightful without distracting from the voice, and racking my brain for her name didn't make me any less appreciative of Raimondi's consummate performance. Bravo!
In quest'opera poi è eccezionale.
Frederica Von Stade was a marvelous Cherubino. This particular piece, with its march tempo and Figaro's light hearted delivery gives the impression that Cherubino will be a soldier for awhile in the Count's army and eventually go back to civilian life. Mozart never even hints at the tragedy that will befall him in the sequel play, because he wanted "Figaro" to be a comic opera. Alas, Cherubino never got to enjoy civilian life again. Cherubino was about 14 in "Figaro", and had a huge crush on Contessa Rosina. In the 3rd play of Beaumarchais's trilogy, (La Mere Coupable), events take a turn for the tragic when Cherubino's passion for Rosina turned out to be way more than a crush, and his devotion and attentiveness become a comfort to the beautiful Rosina, who is continuously betrayed by her philandering, no-count, Count. 2 years later, Cherubino fathers Rosina's son, and the rotter of a count sends him off to battle again, only this time he never returns. The onetime dandy, pretty boy, and "amorous butterfly", becomes a proper soldier, but then is killed in the Count's service at the tender age of 16, and the grieving Rosina has only his son to console her in her sorrow. This scene is still comical, but it's never quite the same after reading about Cherubino's eventual fate.

As figaro or Don basilio or don giovanni you are the best
Amen.
hm kemmoun And his Scarpia!
Not to mention Escamillo!
I hear Mozarts laugh 😁
Dit speelt ook in Amadeus 1984
Grazie Signore
wow, i was blowed away with "delle belle turbando il riposo"
Blown
You got it !! There's a discussion above on the importance of understanding the text. I was just thinking, how can you translate "delle belle turbando il riposo" keeping the beauty of this verse ?
Who remembers this from GTA 3, getting 5 stars causing all sorts of chaos while listening to this. Classic! Just simply classic! ;)
Where is this in gta 3?
Bad bunny baby
@@javierrozasgomez2060 bad bunny è un tenore invidiabile
MARAVILHOSO. Não me canso de aplaudir. Cantores interpretando perfeitamente o papel de forma marcante.
The magnificent Raimondi. It's hard to believe that Raimondi was so shy, stiff & deficit expression when a young man that he was rendered immobile on stage.
Genial Mozart, sublime Ruggiero
MELHORES ATORES E CANTORES COM CERTEZA .,SEM DUVIDA.
Simmmmmm….
Rugiero je pjevački div, drama i pjevanje mu ide s lakoćom. Bravo !!
Thanks very much for sharing this rare gem of Opera!
VOCE STRAODINARIA PER TIMBRO E TECNICA.
TROPPO FORTE
Unico
He was 6ft 9 in height. Jerome hines was close to 2 mt, or 6ft 7.
The size of the performance and the stage presence are not ti be measured in centimetres and kilograms, but in how the artist manages to fill both physical and acoustic space with meaningful and talented movements.
What a Masterpiece !!! EXCELLENT.
Grazie a Ruggero Raimondi.. Bravissimo!
Raimondi insuperabile per voce e presenza scenica. Forse la migliore esecuzione.
He’s fantastic, but I’m so used to hearing this aria sung by bass-baritones. Raimondi is much more purely baritone.
Raimondo e grandiso
I'm forturnate enough to own a DVD of this Met Opera production. It's the best production I've ever experienced. All the singers are at the top of their game and are perfect in the roles. There is no weak link in the cast.
What a superb performance! Me too, Mr. Seb G; it's a very powerful aria and everything wrapped in an unmistakable Mozartian aura! Magnificent!
Perfect text and a benchmark for operatic singing.
La actuación insuperable en voz, en interpretación..
Wow Ruggero!!! Fantastic
The best! Bravo, bravo! Bravissimo!
it's ridiculous that i know the begining of this tune since i was 9, but never actually listened to the whole area till now, after rewatching the famous Saglieri march scene in Amadeus.
*Salieri
Es maravilloso, magnífica obra.

Stupendo 🤩 grazie!!!
Magnificent! Bravo!
Grazie, Seniore
Bravo, braaavoooooii.............I love Mozart
Magnifique !!!
Raimondi è bravissimo!
Another great Male Italian voice. They don't appear to strain or have to shout or scream.
Bravíssimo mio Patrono Mozart!! Grazzie!!
This is phenomenal ⭐️
Sempre bello risentirla❤️
great performance!!
Merci, Masterpiece.
Grandissimo!
