The Contention Server in DCS is amazing fun. The tl;dr is: Enigma's but slightly more modern and more systems. The long version is too long for one video, but here are the basics of what you need to understand to jump into the server, know what's going on, and help your team towards victory in a massive campaign. This sounds fantastic, and the huge variety of aircrafts, well, basically any and all existing ones is amazing, if it wasn't for this vid I wouldn't have known about it, thanks mate
An amazing server with randomization added to make each campaign unique. Currently all of Redfor's factories for making money are randomly all on the front line.
Frustrating, but makes you work harder for all the resources.

I've been loving this server and my go-to server as of late.
I do really like the server. I've been flying the 109 with very good results. It's great for killing Apaches and A10s. Also, capping airfields. I've recently been sucked into U Boat. It's my 1st sub sim ,and a hell of a fun game.
Yeah, I've been meaning to get back into U-boat once it finishes early access
U-Boat best sub sim 2024! I can’t go back to silent hunter anymore because I love U-Boats crew/boat management too much
Just started playing this server this weekend. Been using the trainers to attack the FARPs with FAC. One thing I've noticed even being hidden from the EWR, if you don't have a pretty active CAP overhead you will get knocked out pretty quickly. Loving this server so far. Looking forward to more videos showcasing its features, and hope to see you on the server.
I need a deep dive for this server, can't wait!
I have been enjoying Contention, it's got a good balance between features and ease of use.

@@droo74 we usually fight as REDFOR....our names usually start with [.ID] , we're on usually around 1400z time

Sounds like this could be a great server to play the Chinook once it's released, with the many logistics options!
@@TheTomster94 yeah, definitely. I wasn't too sure where the Chinook would fit into multiplayer but it'll be an excellent fit for contention
@@Dr_Jebus Same here! The F version is too modern for Cold War so I was looking for an online 'home' for it. Never played Contention but will give it a try soon after seeing this video!

For some reason i thought that Contention had side locking, so it was off my radar for a while because i didnt want to commit to a side. Definitely going to check it out now

maybe a silly question but, do we have to do manual cold starts every respawn? Can we spawn hot or auto start?
No hots but auto starts are good to go
@@stephenlutman9287 thanks dude, i've been looking to give multiplayer a try as a noob, but can't spend hours in my quest 2 headset (eye strain because of the stupid 3 fixed settings for eye position), can at least rest my eyes a bit while autostarting.
Are there no good servers that run Caucasus? Kinda getting a little frustrating since I keep learning about interesting servers but I rarely see Caucasus. Given it's the free map everyone has, this surprises me.
No server I know that stands out and runs only Caucasus. But both contention and ECW do cycle over to it. Growling Sidewinder runs it if you're in the mood for fox-3s. Problem with cauc is it's a very dated map and a bit awkward to design a flowing campaign around. But yeah, I get the frustration
The fact that it's the free map also means that it's the oldest, least detailed, and most familiar (least novel) map, so experienced players are often less excited for it.
As pointed out, it also has bad geography for a dynamic campaign game. The map is in three disconnected valleys, there's not a great way to make a frontline that moves across it
last i time i joined this server i had an IFF issue...enemy MIGs were shown as friendly on my MiG-29 HUD....
Problem is with these servers is they are weighted towards players flying the simple mode aircraft, Flaming cliffs basically, if you want to fly anything else that is not air quake then this server is not the one, you will end up frustrated by the missile spammers in 29's and 15's.
I almost exclusively fly the hornet on the server, or the f16. Mixed A/G A/A loadouts on every flight, I haven't had any problems. A lot of the time I find that if a zone I'm hitting starts becoming too hot with enemy air I just go hit something else. The units are persistent too so it never really feels like a waste.
I've only been on a few times in the last week or two but it was nothing but Hornets, Vipers, Su-33s and Mirage 2000s when I played oh and tons of Combined Arms. Looked suuuuuper fun! I want to get involved with CTLD so got myself the OH-58 for a bit of armed logistics support and have been learning it. Why can't the Apache be so easy to operate?? 😭
