regading the medical.... All the best to you, But I have never felt it affected the videos and just enjoy them, should one not be to my liking well then it is what it is... But I clicked the bell for notifications so when you put stuff out then I know I will watch it..

My nose is dry stuffed all the time. The way I deal with that is xylometazoline drops... I know, I know just hear me out....I mix it with saline solution at least 10-1 and I add a tiny ammount of glycerin. It takes at least 15-20 minutes before they take effect that way but it still works. I went to at least a dozen of specialists, they gave me all sorts of stuff, no change. I was really exhausted because I could not sleep with pressure in my face. Finally when I started to do the thing with the drops, I'm fine. During my last checkup with the doctor I mentioned my trick, he said that this is actually very good way to deal with it.
I never get notifications for your content even though they are turned on. I even unsubscribed and resubscribed, but it has made zero difference. Not that yours is the only channel this happens with. 😼

I think Matt might actually stop making videos all together in not to distent future due to health problems, its probably a painful and uncomfortable condition.
Though he has to expect thoughtless anonymous comments, especially when people aren't aware of extenuating circumstances and just assume he's being lazy! lol

Given he produced c50 vids last year when he had so much else going on, I reckon he'll keep on going for a while yet. We might have to accept fewer vids with longer gaps between them, but I'm ok with that.

They are plebs. I sat through this video with only the one break to go and get some food after about an hour...I usually bash through the whole thing start to finish..
I usually do not comment videos, but I feel like Mat does not get all the love and recognition he deserves. He gave me hours of entertainment, fun, laughs with quality content every week for free. Whatever happens in the future I just want to say thank you and may 2023 be the opposite of 2022.
Mat, after hearing your 2022 story, I’m astonished that you’ve managed to put out 50 great videos this year. I’m subscribed to a huge number of channels, which means I’m selective about what I watch. There are many for which I watch only some of their videos, and many that I don’t stay subscribed to indefinitely. Techmoan is the opposite: I enjoy your videos (including all of 2022’s) more than almost any other channel’s, and unsubscribing would be unthinkable. I’m looking forward to whatever you have to offer in 2023. My family is working through some similar challenges to yours, and my thoughts are with you. Take care.
In regard to the video length criticisms: One of the reasons I watch all of your videos IS because they're long and have a natural flow to them. I'm not even that interested in audio equipment/formats but I'm completely engaged for the entirety of every video. Thanks for all the great content!

This is true for most of my favorite channels like Techmoan, The 8-Bit Guy, Technology Connections, LGR, etc. I watch them for their personality and their relaxing videos. I wasn't even born when most of the things they cover were relevant.
Yea it's nice to have something longer. I really enjoy the longer videos. If you want short videos go watch tik tok.

I've been a silent supporter of this channel for years now. I've watched just about every single video and I rewatch a ton of your videos. I love that you have playlists setup so I can revisit different categories of videos every few months. That rewatch ability can be directly connecting with you and your wonderful personality. The tech is great to learn about, but you bring it to life. Your mix of humor, wit, and natural interest in learning more and getting your hands dirty really makes every video special. I love how you haven't gone down the sponsorship route, being able to buy in all of the things that you have featured simply because they interest you. That real interest comes off in your videos and it makes them much more entertaining to watch. Real impressions, no holding back. I follow a handful of tech reviewers you could say, and you are among the best. You have brightened my day more times than I can count, so I thank you for that.
As far as those that would make such silly criticisms like talking about clearing your nose, the length of videos, or bizarre audiophile rants, you just have to kind of file those to one side. Being on an open platform means that there will be a small minority of commenters that are just off. They aren't happy people and take that out on the creators that they come across that just happen to rub them the wrong way. You come across as very strong person, so I doubt these comments hang with you long, but you're also human, so I'm sure they can irk you when you see them. Just remember that the vast majority of us that watch your content regularly, feel differently. We love the long form videos, we arent thinking about how you breathe or any other rubbish like that. You've built up a solid fanbase that will stick with you regardless of the number of videos you make, or how long they are. As long as it's still authentically you, then we are happy to be part of it.
Regarding your 2022, I don't think you owe any of us an explanation about your personal life, medical issues, etc. Most of us, again, are happy to be patient and quickly show up whenever you post a new video. I myself never even though about you putting out weekly videos. I just wait to see you turn up with a new video and go watch. Since you did decide to share details about your life in 2022, I will say that I'm sorry to hear about your mom, helping your dad and your own personal issues. Dealing with all of that at once is filled with stress and emotions. On top of that, you have so many things to take care of, trying to not let the emotions keep you down, to keep moving forward. I remember the videos you did that surrounded items you were getting for your parents and how much I could tell that you really wanted to help them enjoy life through that tech. You have been a great son to them, and I know your mom will always be with you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that you are able to get to a much better place with your own health. It may sound sappy, but there is a sort of family feel that develops between CZcams creators and their fans. The core viewers that really get you, feel almost as if we are friends or family. Hence why many people call you by your first name here. I feel a little awkward doing it myself, but that's just me lol. We care about your well-being as much as we care about your content. If I had a chance to meet you someday, I'd want to shake your hand and thank you in person.
If you need to take breaks, if you need to make fewer videos, if you need time to focus on your own health or your family, you don't need to explain it to us. The people that get you, who get your content, will always be here to do what we can to support you. Even if that's just a like and subscribe. I do appreciate updates about how things are going, simply because I care, but you could always keep it as simple as saying you have life to take care of and will be away for a while, but you will be back. As you said, we should all keep it in mind that the creators we follow have real lives that should take priority and that the 'job' they have taken a lot more work and effort than you might realize. Creators on youtube burn out all the time. It can be very stressful and even self-destructive. So, keep it all about having fun and enjoying what you're doing. Take all the breaks you can to recharge.
Sorry about the long post, but I really thought it warranted it here. It seemed only fair to reply to you in as much detail as I could, to honor what you've given us all these years and even just the effort to put together this long video, which I enjoyed very much. Of course, it's sad to hear about the trouble of the past year, but I appreciate what you have given us this year and look forward to whatever is in store for next year. I hope that in some small way, we can help you move forward, give you a boost along the way. Keep fighting for your own health, focus on that, and then hopefully you can have fun making videos while we get to come along for the ride. Take care, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year! I see this alot that successful youtubers get affected by the negative comments even if it's a small percentage of the mostly positive comments, not sure why.

I just want to say Mat. You say you got your sense of humour from your mother, and that's what a lot of us enjoy. So she lives on, and we love your content. You do you mate, and it will be good enough for us fans. Also I am a bit drunk but that's when the honest opinions comes out. I hope everything keeps improving, especially as you are going to put more time toward yourself. That's the most important thing.

As a retired A/V technician I have to say that your channel was the first that I subscribed to on CZcams and it wasn't just because of the things you feature. I thoroughly enjoy the background stories and even the failed repairs, (I've certainly had more of those than I care to count).
Take all the time you need to do the best you can do (and make them as long as they need to be) and I, for one, will be eagerly waiting. I wish you all the best in the coming year. I LOVE your channel!

Not worth listening to these people. As long as he's clear and understandable, it's not an issue. Isaac Arthur has a speech impediment and quite honestly, I can't imagine listening to him _without_ a bit of waskly wabbit in his voice. Can't imagine Techmoan without a bit of that deep, calm, nasal voice.
Well people didn't know now he explains the background I never said blow your nose but it didn't go unnoticed many other people noticed the same thing, it's appreciative that he explained all the background now people can understand what's going on

I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties, it sounds like it's been a tough year. This is the reason I never complain about CZcamsrs not publishing a video or publishing filler. There is likely a good reason and I'm not in a position to know or judge. Hopefully 2023 brings better things all round.

I’ve been watching this “total DadTube” for longer than I remember and as much as I’ll miss my Saturday morning routine catching up with a new upload, I absolutely support your decision to prioritise your own health going forward. Look after yourself, and luckily we’ve got a ton of other content to fill any gaps in the meantime.
Great to see my street organ antics ended up in your wrap-up video, still play the book regularly and it's always enjoyed by everyone around! And yes, I did base it loosely around the MIDI version, saved a lot of time compared to having to start from scratch. Always on the look out for good music.

Those complaining about some details are very likely those who skipped the last part. They don't care about others and their problems at all, they just want to get entertained for free and can just complain if not everything fits their expectations. One of the reasons I killed my own channel a while ago. You're doing absolutely great videos and I enjoy every single one, even if there is a gap of another week in between. The more I'm happy with the next one :) Keep up this great channel and don't forget to care about yourself in between. I totally understand you, had a hard year myself. Your videos are not too long, you are one of the only and best CZcamsrs left that haven't given into this algorithm bull and cut your videos down making them crap like others only giving you half the information at best. Love your videos, don't change for the few complainers.

So sorry to hear about your mother.. my father passed a few weeks ago and my mother is in hospital for Xmas, but she's on the mend. I love all your videos and have never wondered why there was a delay in videos being released. You take your time releasing them going forward. If it's one a month that's no problem at all. Quality over quantity is always best. Look after yourself and hope those medical trials eventually help out. Glad you had soup that day and swapped that useless bit of info with that other person 😂

As as a fellow T1D, I feel for you, Mat. The disease is insidious, and has taken my kidneys by my 35th birthday. Hello! I'm from a poor district in São Paulo, Brazil. Outdated tech was the kind of tech I could get access to during most of my life. Watching your videos helped me getting through covid and a divorce during this year, since they brought to me this sense of good nostalgia, at the same time they surfaced the curiosity I've had and that I desperately needed to get over the technical limitations of outdated devices to listen to my favourite music and record videos. I'm really happy I met your channel and please, take all the time you need to make your videos!

Don't change your format or duration. I really do enjoy the detail and story behind the subjects you choose. You always provide a very insightful and logical exploration of the technology of yesteryear. Complainers are always going to complain. You do great work, but to be able to continue doing great work, you need to take care of yourself, first and foremost - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Your fans will be here.

The people who watch and have so many demands and complaints baffles Me, there is people with honest criticism which is a good thing and then there is just selfish ignorant people with nothing better to do then troll.
Yes, people who hate their jobs/lives love to harbor a ton of resentment towards youtubers, and love to say "get a real job" like this isn't real work. What they cannot grasp is that the only real difference is they have more creative control over their income, not that it isn't still work.
You are a gem of a presenter. You take something like a cassette player and turn it into video gold. Ignore all the idiots that can’t appreciate absolutely free entertainment.
I lost my mother this year as well. On Mother's day, no less. I completely understand how difficult it is. My condolences. Let me say that your videos are one of the things that helped me to cope. I actually re-watched many of them the week after she passed to help get my mind off of things late at night when I just couldn't sleep. I don't really know why anyone wouldn't like all of your videos. I really enjoy them and when they are posted later than usual, I just assume that you have a lot going on because you are human. I have shared your videos with my Dad lately as well and he has really enjoyed them. Don't change a thing!

So sorry you had such a tough year, Mat - I hope 2023 goes a little better. It’s remarkable that you managed to put out so many videos considering, and I’m really glad you had a few big hits along the way. I think reducing the number of videos is a good idea, and will hopefully take a bit of stress off and let you give your best ideas the attention they deserve.

Repairing, modifying and redesigning vintage audio equipment is my job. Something i've been doing for over 40 years, so for me the stories behind the objects are the most interesting thing in the videos. Thank you for producing a wonderful, interesting channel. Keep going, you make youtube better.

As far as I'm aware of, about 5% of people are malicious by nature. Having a lot of exposure, you can come across a lot of their communication. That says something about them, not about you. To be frank: you video's are more than quality products. They are very friendly and most of the times humorous in an English way. That makes them not only informative, but entertaining too. Nobody deserves rude words and you in particilar don't deserve them at all. I'd say: keep up the good work! Groeten uit Nederland
The video by KiraTV titled "The Revenge of A Deranged Internet Bully" was an eye-opener. There's some really weird people out there.
Indeed. And some are more malicious than others, some go as far as webstalking, posting people’s address, or even going there in person all for making a drawing or piece of music they don’t like. They’re seemingly about 1% of people, but of course the internet potentially puts you in contact with them.

I only discovered your channel a couple of years ago, and hove not yet been able to see all of your content. But, from what I have seen so far, I have REALLY enjoyed it. 2022 has been very challenging for me too, with family health issues which has affected my own mental health. Watching CZcams channels like yours help me to relax and get away from life for a while. I want to say thank you for your posted content so far, and look forward to whatever you can upload in 2023, regardless of quantity. Wishing you and your family all the best for 2023, and beyond.

Sorry to hear about your mum, that's nothing i look forward to either (both parents still around) but the only thing we know for sure is that day will come. Great videos as always anyway, i enjoy watching them. Some are bigger faves than others ofcourse. I haven't really thought about how often you upload any new stuff but i keep an eye open (don't take it personal ; -)). We all have a life "offline" so i'm not bothered about delays if there are any. I used to do my own uploads mainly about repairing vintage hi-fi but i gave it up a few years ago due to lack of time and editing skills.
