3x races head-to-head and data for 1/4 mile times. Win a dream car and £50,000 cash with BOTB: bit.ly/Win-Your-Dream-Car-Plu...
It's Shmeemobile drag race time with two supercars against one another with the McLaren 675LT Spider and Ford GT! Both cars are of similar weight, with about the same amount of power, and on paper quite hard to tell them apart with both claiming 10.8 seconds for the 1/4 mile sprint.
The McLaren 675LT Spider has a 3.8l TT V8 with 675hp and 700Nm, against the Ford GT with a 3.5l TT V6 making 656hp and 746Nm, with both cars weighing approximately 1,350kg, having 7 speed DCT gearboxes, and sending all of the power to the rear wheels with a launch control mode for maximum performance.
With three races head to head, joined by Christian from BOTB to pilot the 675LT Spider while I take the wheel of the Ford GT, let's see how they actually shape up... prepare to be surprised!
With BOTB, you can choose from almost 200 different cars to play for including supercars and plenty of performance cars. Tickets start at just 45p and there's also the option to add £50,000 cash to your prize! Enter before midnight on Sunday for a chance to be their big Tuesday winner!

Where was the upset? The LT won as expected...
Awesome race ... Senna next ?
Looks like you might have to tune the GT😁
Shmee150 Awesome Video I'm not Surprised that your 675LT Spider beat your Ford GT in the 1/4 mile and I think it should go against your Senna
@@stubones says you.
Ford really came through with the design of the GT. The car, for me, is one of the best looking available no matter the year. It's up there with the Chiron, the Mura, Aventador, La Ferrari, and a short list of others. 👍✌
I agree, I love the look of that Ford GT. I'd add the Saleem S7 to that list of incredibly good looking cars.
@@kyleeisenhauer5501 Oh yeah, gorgeous car. I remember when Doug reviewed it, but couldn't fit himself in the drivers seat to actually drive it. lol
Those borrowed design cues from the Acura nsx (integrated side sill intake) and Nissan 2020 vision grand turismo concept (rear) really paid off for ford's GT
@@roblockhart6104 WHAT!!! are you talking about! Ford definitely DID NOT copy from those stinking Japanese vehicles!
@@rockandroll4689 right, like they seriously came up with, and designed it in a basement, after hours when everyone else went home, in only a few days. Only true part is, in the age of Autocad and 3D printing, anything can be built in a day. The only cars that had these design cues were the aforementioned nsx and Nissan 2020. Ford seemingly came up with their own fusion of the two, which has nothing to do with the 40 or GT prior to it.
Why do I say this? Because Ford has been known to take shortcuts in the past using Ferrari specifically for technology jumps. The last Ford GT was a reversed engineered Ferrari 360 Modena. Bet you didn't even know that.
In the words of Mat Watson from carwow “ That McLaren just buggers off “
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😂😂😂😂😂😂LOVE CARWOW

„So what exactly happened“ 😄
"Let's have ourselves a count down shall we" could listen to this all day lol
The same Mat Watson who has a deposit on a Tesla Plaid?.. Time for another Drag Race!
I was hoping the Ford GT would win, even though I already knew it didn't have much of a chance at doing so since it was built to be more of a road course corner carver. I'd still rather have the GT. That is one GORGEOUS machine!
not even an impressive track car either lol
@@spike8642 How is the Ford GT not impressive on the track?
Shadow Wolf overpriced, underproduced, underwhelming, overhyped, didnt perfrom for what ford tries to make it is
@@spike8642 Price is for heritage, the advanced performance parts and the entire carbon fiber tub body and you can easily sell the car for millions to collectors making your money back with tons of profit, Ford purposely limited the production of the car to keep it special and hold its value even more, the Ford GT beat the crap out of all car companies at Le Mans which is what made the hype for the car rise and have not seen anyone disappointed with owning a Ford GT, It performs perfectly to what Ford engineers designed it to do, this car won at Le Mans and is now a legendary piece of car history you can buy, so I ask you again, how is the performance of the Ford GT not impressive on the track?
Shadow Wolf the old one yes. and obviously the value will rise or you’ll get you’re return because they’re so limited. it doesn’t make it special it makes it dumb
Pick 1 to race: I’d have the 675LT
Pick 1 to own: I’d have the Ford GT

Smart Fortwo over anything tho

The guy in the GT for that first run, can't drive !
Same.
I'd take the GT home, it's got 650hp and looks amazing, that's miles more than enough power for anyone on the road.
Would be interested to see some lap times to see what handles better out of those two?
my man
The ford gt does 7:52 on the Nuremberg, and the 675lt does 7:21. Shows really who the top g of the cars are. Also if you want a actual v6 track car, the gt2 rs is way better in every aspect and it’s 300k cheaper lol. Euro on top.
@@Thegoatgregory euro on top of what most people in Europe drive cars I could put in the bed of my f150 4 door 4x4 .and they will all have electric shitboxes soon.
@@jennykirk9516 so it’s a flex to have a f-150 💀 I can put two of those in a semi truck. Also incorrect. The day they go fully electric is the day everyone does. Out of anything, your American muscle cars will die out and become electric before our amazing euro cars do.

Shmee your 675LT is simply stunning, never sell it
@Brandon Humphrey Better how?
@Brandon Humphrey they are both great cars, just that the 675 is more track focused, while McLaren built the GT more as a highway cruiser, but with Supercar performance and dynamics
@@christopherdovban5789 gt is not a highway cruiser it’s much more track focused like the 675 that’s why it has active aero and insane aerodynamics

That 675LT means serious business… such a rocket that thing👌🏼
I bet that the 675LT actually has more horsepower than listed. Maybe Shmee could give it a Dyno run, I'd be very interested.
I've only ever ridden in a Ford GT. I have to say that it was an incredible experience.
Was it like getting fingered
Not really an upset, most people knew what would happen.
Well, some people, not all people!
@@britishagent you must not understand the definition of most.
Most people would assume a supercar would win against another one half the price.
It's like the Aventader, only people who watch races or tests would know it's really slow for its price.
@@jamisonz3365 you know the Ford is 450k right? And the 675lt is anywhere between 230k to 600k from what I just looked at for new/used.
I'd say they are similarly priced
I love the GT, just wish it was a bit faster in a straight line.
Agree
GT sold on its name alone. V6 with old engine
@@Shmee150 maybe some future modifications???
I know it’s subjective but I think straight line performance, especially for track oriented cars, isn’t that important.
I hated new Ford GT just because it lacks incredibly in terms of acceleration when it costs so much, and it would never redeem itself no matter how much people praised it's performance and for how good looking it is.
That noise when the stones are hitting, mahn 🥶
So true 🤯🥴
Yea half mill for car to run through the gravel smh.
Hey Tim, great video. I wanted to ask, does the Paint Protection Film protect the underbody from getting scratched by the stones when you're going at over 150 mph? Or does the car body ultimately get scratched here and there?
Let me get this straight. You are worried about rock chips under the car body? Must be a fan of anal bleaching.

675 has been my Lock Screen on my phone for a few years, I’d love to get a chance to drive one
Being a traditional Ford racing fan, I wanted to see the GT40 kick some ass. But it's obvious your 675LT would have none of that. What a great car that is you have. Great show!
It's not a GT40. Just a GT
American track cars are nothing to euro. It’s like if Mercedes tried to make a drag car, it would just be destroyed by all of the American drag cars.
As an American.... I say.... "It should have been a V8"....
hopefully they make it Hybrid V6
That's why the new gen of muscle cars are getting DESTROYED on the track vs older japanese sport cars. I run circle around the latest Hellcats and Demons. Sure they are slightly faster at the drag, but on the track? LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
@@shadowblack1987 There are lighter V8 engines,,,, not every V8 is a LS,,
100% absolutely!
@@shadowblack1987 i notice you mentioned the absolute worst of the American V8 cars on a track: the Dodges. Older Japanese sports cars won’t hold a candle to a GT350, GT500, or Camaro ZL1. Not to mention a Corvette. So, good for you for beating some old man in a Challenger, but you would get smoked by one of the American V8 cars that’s actually meant to turn.
Also, I guarantee your car is HEAVILY modified to be able to beat that Hellcat. The only “older Japanese sports car” that I can think of that would beat a Hellcat around a track stock is the Lexus LFA.

Tim, I don't think on the track, the Ford GT will be necessary the quicker of the two as you suggested. Here are lap times for comparisons on various tracks that both have done. Granted these were not done on the same day but it'll give you some idea. At Angelsey Coastal the times are 1:14.23 (GT) vs 1:12.80 (LT). At Willow Springs, the times are 1:23.69 (GT) vs 1:24.29 (LT). At the
Motortrend Figure-8 course, 0:22.70 (GT) vs 0:22.40 (LT).

Love these 2 cars. Def on the list of money-no-issue dream cars in the garage.
Mclarens numbers seem like they're always to the wheels where as competitors are to the crank
What is the difference between to the wheels and to the crank ? I'm new to the drag race stuff
@@GH-fh7pn wheels is power directly at the wheels, the power train loss is already accounted for, so its a more "realistic" figure, crank is power generated at the crank of the engine, before transmission, axles, diffs, etc so its a bit lower at the wheels than the actual hp, hope thats a bit clearer
@@GH-fh7pn brake horse power (BHP) is horse power at the wheels. That's the only figure that actually matters. Horse power on the other hand is what's measured at the crank. The crank shaft is one of many components that help turn the engine, but arguably one of the most important. Let's say you get 700 hp at the crank, that then has to go through the pistons, gearbox, drive shaft, axels, and a few other parts but you get the idea. By the time it's reached the wheels, you've lost some Horse power and you've got your BHP figure. You'd probably be closer to 660hp at the wheels if you're getting 700 at the crank. This is not in relation to either car, just rough figures to give you an idea on how it works
And I've seen a couple of Dyno runs on them, and their out put is closer to the numbers in the name. So the 675 is actually the amount of power going to the wheels
Any Mclaren will walk most other super cars. With all the reliability issues Mclaren would be bankrupt if it wasn’t for their insane performance!!
Did everyone notice how the driver of the GT fell completely asleep at the starting line ? And lost the race by the almost exactly the same amount of time that it lost at the start !
The level of torque in the 675LT is insane! For that matter, it seems to be a very 'McLaren' trait in all their roadcars.
Your 675LT is my favorite car. I
Still go back and watch old videos on it. Cheers

Great video, Shmee! Love the Daytona
I’ve seen a Senna and a 720s out on a runway and they were both unreal when accelerating so I wasn’t suprised at the result of this one!
Not that surprising..the GT is overpriced for its performance

Shmee, if it does bother you I'll be more than happy to take it off your hands and you will not have to look at it ever again. Really, its no problem on my part :) Keep up the great work and continue to stay safe and healthy.
The 675LT is also designed for track and not drag racing, McLaren's are just insanely quick and always make far more power than stated.
Hey Shmee, we need more 675lt content please!
Imagine if they had put a supercharged or turbocharged 5.2L V8 in the Ford GT... Whoo boy.
I believe this GT was more less a showcase to show the prowess of Ford tech with their "Ecoboost" motors. Obviously is heavily revised tho
Can't really say it's all that surprising. The performance of the Ford GT was never in the same territory, while it's fairly well known that McLarens have astonishing performance, especially thanks to the work done by DragTimes.
Both are amazing cars, but McLaren just goes all-out when it comes to acceleration.
Wow! That Ford sounded like a rattle trap when it was slowing down. Not at all like the Mc, which bodes performance AND quality fit and finish.

Correct! This Friday
You guys are relentless
That was expected, LT will forever be my favourite in your collection.
No wonder why GT's prices have melted like butter under sun...
I've wanted to see this race for a very very long time
1/4 mile drag races do not determine the "fastest" car.
It does if the lead car is still pulling and the lagging vehicle is not gaining; as we saw here...
Try telling that to all the street racers.
The fastest meaning is capable movement at high speed and the 675lt is the most capable.
The 675LT is just a masterpiece really, such a good looking car and just blitzed the GT! The LT would be my choice out of all your cars if I could pick 1!
I don't understand why they ran so many runs & didn't change lanes. Ford struggled for traction in every race. If they switched lanes they could see if it was the strip. To me that looked like a traction difference.
McLarens rule :-) The Ford just doesn't have the wallop of the big McLarens and Mercs, pity. It really looks like a spaceship and like it should be a lot quicker.
Not even watched snd the LT will destroy the GT
So its actually not much of a surprise.
I'd love to see some lap times, I think the GT would be more competitive around a Le Mans style track..

The best way to eliminate the possibility of the fault being in the drivers is to switch the drivers every race to determine the flaw is in the car not the driver.
The GT is awesome but I just love the LT, what a stunning car! 5 years old and still beautiful!
You should take the GT to Matt from @carwow and race him pleaaaase
