Yep... this was on their mega hit "Pyromania" album in Jan 1983! Also you're correct the drummer hadn't had his accident yet. It happened after this album and before their next smash album "Hysteria".
In 1983, Def Leppard's 3rd album 'Pyromania' was literally selling at #2 on the US charts behind Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' (biggest record of all time) and ended up selling 10 million copies thanks to MTV promotion... Def Leppard went from young band to superstars in just 4 years. This album was recorded in 1982, before drummer Rick Allen's accident in late 1984 in which he lost his left arm... original guitarist Pete Willis recorded 'Pyromania', but was fired before it was finished because his alcoholism was affecting his studio performances. Guitarist Phil Collen joined and added some guitar solos & finished the record... he appeared in the music videos and on tour, and is still in Def Leppard today. Def Leppard played their first shows after Rick Allen's accident in 1986... the 'Hysteria' album was finally completed in 1987, but the band had lost the commercial momentum from 'Pyromania' being gone for 3 years... 'Hysteria' initially sold 3 million copies, which was not enough to recoup the studio costs of making it... Thankfully, the single 'Pour some sugar on me' exploded in the summer of 1988 and 'Hysteria' eventually outsold Michael Jackson's 'Bad' album... It was the last album to feature guitarist Steve Clark, who succumbed to drug & alcohol addiction and passed away in early 1991... Def Leppard's 1992 album 'Adrenalize' had to be recorded w/ Phil Collen playing all the guitars - both his and Steve's parts, which had been written before his death. More Def Leppard - "Let's get rocked" ... 'Armageddon it' ... 'Tonight' ... 'Work it out' ... 'Promises' ... 'Rocket' ... 'Too late for love' ... 'Let it go' ... 'Hello America'... 'Wasted' ... 'Gods of war'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘
Vivian Campbell replaced Steve Clark in 92. He is amazing, great fit, and a heck of a resume (Ronnie James Dio, Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, Lou Gramm, Billy Gibbons on his solo album, etc.). Last I heard he was being treated for Hodgkins Lymphoma. Hope he is doing well 🙏🏼

I was 11 when a friend got the album for their birthday and we listened to it nonstop for the rest of the day and the next day. Such good memories, thanks for sharing and bringing them back to me.
A big key to Def Leppard’s sound was notoriously meticulous producer Mutt Lange. Mutt produced their next LP “Hysteria” which propelled them to superstar status. He also produced AC/DC’s “Back in Black” album and went on to produce for (and marry) Shania Twain. They later divorced.
When some of us hear this song, all we can think of is a beautiful, jet-black 1967 Impala creeping menacingly through the grass while this song blares from her speakers.
Great review of Def Leppard. My recommendation would be "Switch 625". It is an instrumental song after "Bringing On The Heartbreak" on the 'High and Dry' album. The songs do go together on the album.
My father in law tells a story, he used to listen to this on 8 track to get pumped up to race his 3 wheeler in the SoCal offroad races. He fancies the 80s often, I respect that
This was in 1983. Rik Allen lost his arm on New Year's Eve 1984. They are amazing live.
Steve Clark (R.I.P.) was the heart of that band and the principal song writer. You can hear the change in the music style after he died. Also, that Anthem sound came from Mr. Shania Twain himself, Robert "Mutt" Lange.
I was in 8th grade when this album came out. You need to go see Def Leppard live. We saw them live in 2018. They are AMAZING!!!! Their concerts are always multigenerational. You’ll see parents and their teen kids jamming together.

Possibly one of the greatest rock albums of the 80s. Notice the drummer still had both arms. This was the last album before his accident. Of course you must also do Photograph.

Good song. This came out in 83 and Rick Allen's accident happened on NY eve of 84. their lead guitarist Steve Clark died in 91 sadly. He pretty much frank himself to death. I remember when these guys first came out with a song called Light Brigade. I loved it.They were like 16-17 years old.I knew they were gonna be big.
Saw them play Hastings Pier in '79 or '80, when I was 17 and they were probably a few years older. All poodle perms and lycra/leather. A lifetime ago. I think Tygers of Pantang were on the same night. Started at 7pm probably, and we were home by 11 or maybe earlier!!
Ah, my favorite Def Leppard song!! Thank you for reacting to it!! =D I read in the little booklet that came with my CD that this song was inspired by a church song book. One of the songs was titled Rock Of Ages. =)
Oh man, we were all so young! Def Leppard is one of my favorite bands, and the first time I was actually older than the dude I was crushing on - I’m 3 months older than Rick Allen.
My housemate could talk your ears off about Def Leppard! Such a fan, he can tell you the name of each of their albums, when they were released, the names of the band members, what instruments they play, yada yada yada......
I got Pyromania the week it came out in '83. I was a Junior in H.S. and it was a hit at our school. I eventually had it on cassette, vinyl and CD. All at the same time.
Second best use of Scotch-lite reflective material in an 80s video on Joe Elliott's sword. First best, Nik Kershaw's suit in the video for "Wouldn't It Be Good".
"I wish it was louder", what everyone who has ever listened to Def Leppard says. Which brings up a conundrum, I had to ban myself from listening to Def Leppard as a kid because I started having ringing in my ears and got scared for my hearing. Always put the speakers of my boom box right up to my head. They didn't originally call themselves "Deaf" Leopard for nothing.

Waited overnight to get tickets for this tour to see them open for Billy Squier. Pretty wild being close enough to get eye contact. Great band. Loved Mutt’s production. 💜💜💜
Videos were SO fun and creative. This came out in 1982. GREAT ALBUM ! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🇬🇧 LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL 🎸
My all-time favorite Def Leppard song.
I LOVE your videos!!!!!! Def Leppard was my favorite growing up (80's kid) I've seen them live 3 times! Even now they r worth every penny! Go see em live! TY so much for uniting people in a world that seems to want to divide! Love u! Keep it up!!!!
Now you are back in my wheelhouse. They still are amazing.
Honestly one of my favorite chorus's of all time, sooooooo good.
I love it! This album (Pyromania) came out when I was in middle school. "Photograph" is my favorite song from this album with "Rock of Ages" coming in a close second.
Dam...back before the drummer lost his arm , in a car accident..KUDOS to them for sticking with him!!!!
GREAT!! song to wake up to!! SOO glad I grew up to this song!
I remember how this was the number #1 video on NBC's Friday Night Videos for a couple of weeks, methinks anyway!!
Jamel, been loving your channel for a year and a half at least now. “Wish it was louder”...🤣. Please don’t forget to memorialize Meat Loaf. RIP.
ROCK AND ROLL WILL NEVER STOP BEING COOL
Def Lepard; “let it go” is their best song.
I just love you. You reinvigorate my love of sone old songs and you're always in such a good mood, which is what I need after a long, hard, crappy day at work. Thank you!
I've been a fan since I was 9, seen them 14x!!! I believe Pyromania was 1983. Love, love, Love Them!!!!
Thank you Jamel!!! Bring on ONE MILLION SUBS!!!!!
Jamel, this is my favorite song by Def Leppard. Thank you for it, and just Thank You.
Ah, my favorite Def Leppard song!! Thank you for reacting to it!! =D
I read in the little booklet that came with my CD that this song was inspired by a church song book. One of the songs was titled Rock Of Ages. =)
One of those bands you never get tired of hearing. Thank you for the reaction.
1980s videos and lyrics were so creative and over the top, this album made people go nuts due to heavy rotation on MTV
I love driving my 18 wheeler to this song. It gets me pumped
Oh man, we were all so young! Def Leppard is one of my favorite bands, and the first time I was actually older than the dude I was crushing on - I’m 3 months older than Rick Allen.
Jamal " I wish this was louder " speaking like a real rocker 🤟
My housemate could talk your ears off about Def Leppard! Such a fan, he can tell you the name of each of their albums, when they were released, the names of the band members, what instruments they play, yada yada yada......
This was from1983. High n Dry ( 81 ) was their most kickass album in my opinion.
❤️❤️❤️Def Leppard !!! Thanks!!!
Pyromania came out in 1983. About a year later, Rick Allen had his accident in his Corvette and lost his arm. The seat belt ripping his arm off.
I absolutely love Def Leppard.
