- In this week's episode of Airgun Depots Under Pressure:
We get the new Hunters Supply .25cal 49 grain hunting slugs. Now usually when we get a new gun, we run every pellet we can through the gun we're testing. We decided to change things up this week and find the right gun for these slugs. We test 8 rifles in a last gun standing shootoff. Stay tuned to see who wins!

I own a .25 cal Sumatra this gun will put most out of the box .30 cals to shame with its power. It has GREAT accuracy also.
That Sumatra is fantastic!
I really liked the concept and execution of this video. Great job!
Thanks Travis, we appreciate the complement.
Sumatra is best bang for buck for any airgun when it comes to power, accuracy, and a repeater. I'm getting 103 fpe shooting 55 grain bullets. Longest kill was a squirrel at 200 yards. Lasered.
The Sumatra really is an underrated gun!
Great format, please do more of these heads-up style rifle/pellet reviews.
Glad you liked it. We are planning on mixing some reviews like this in.
I LOVE my Sumatra 2500, even more than my FX Crown. Yes, they are two very different guns, but my Sumatra is just as accurate as my Crown, and even moreso at 125+ yards. The trajectory is nice and flat even with 34 grain JSBs which it can throw at 1200 fps. It is a beautiful beast of a gun, my favorite. Accurate and powerful.
Do you know if they can be turned for more power, and if so who?
@@gordy1961 LoL. I believe you!
Wow! Great, great video. Thank you
Thumbs up. Great original idea!!!
Thank you so much! I shared this on google, Twitter and FB
Appreciate you sharing the video with other Tina!
That thing is a beast. Wow
Thanks for that info, it was great!
I have a Karl puncher mega 25cal synthetic , installed a Jefferson State Air rifles SS BALANCE VALVE tune replaced the shroud with a moderator replaced the spring hammer, I am getting 60 fpe useing a 44 gr Neilson swaged hollow point, 960 fps , it's my coyote killer 100 yards no problem , awesome video's guys
By Hawke Chairgun Pro if you are sending a 44gr slug at 960fps that is 90 fpe not 60 fpe.
wow, I'm surprised, I have a sumatra in the same caliber and I know it's a beast, but it really shows how the condor and the sumatra are the law in power, thanks for sharing ...
Should have used the Hercules bully, would have been a draw, as for as ft lbs and accuracy, my bully loves these and they fit the mag
@@anthonygillespie7233 I just bought a .25 Bully and 3 weeks later got the Bullboss. These 2 are my first PCP air rifles and so far am very happy with them. Was wondering about slugs in the Bully.
@PELLET MAN The Bullboss is not as powerful as the Bully but it is a lot quieter. It is a little lighter too which makes it easier to handle. As for the auto safety, that can be disabled by cutting the little tab that the slide catches when you pull it back. Safety will still work manually but auto safety would be permanently disabled. Just found that out yesterday.
Can't believe I missed this episode! I'm glad you guys covered this. The only problem with hunter supply slugs is they are so misshapen at the tail and that’s the last thing to leave the barrel. Takes a lot of sorting more than half just go in a pot for melting. Try Rat Sniper slugs or Nielsen specialty ammo. They are better in every way over the HS slugs.
i knew that Sumatra would easily push those 50g & be more accurate, it push those 43g eugin pellets well over 900 fps, i love what it did with those 50g, great video
Thanks Gerald. It was a fun video to put together and we learned a lot about these smaller slugs.
Its to loud its a pos
Well, delighted to see that my rifle (my favorite right now) took 1st Place! Now I just need to order me some of those slugs!!
Yep!
Just brought an Kral puncher breaker and it just doesn't put out the same power as my Sumatra .25. I put a Grizzly slug out of my Sumatra on a squirrels head and it was lights out. That Sumatra is no joke.
Nice comparisons thought the better comparison is clearly the CondorSS and the Sumatra as you can still get a better adjustment out of the Condor SS that you have yet to achieve and not to mention the accuracy but I get what you are trying to show. I'd do another head to head with the CondorSS or regular and Sumatra.
Well done, Sir.
Haha...love my Sumatra!
I'm curious why you guys went with the Bullboss rather than it's big brother the Gladius which does have the adjustable power wheel?
Condor is a beast. Should do a head-2-head with the Condor (not SS) and the Sumatra 2500. But the Sumatra is made to shoot heavy. Regardless, you guys should do a package for both rifles with optics and slugs...slugs that work for each rifle. I like both myself.
We're definitely considering a H2H shortly on those two rifles, and nice idea on a package deal as well. We'll see what we can come up with.
Airgun Depot H2H all the way. Just remember who gave you guys the idea for that particular package deal...lol.
True, and duly noted!
You guys are great!
Hopefully a shift is coming in AGs, someone is going to step up and start producing a gun that is designed for slugs and mass produce the ammo, BC of pellets in my eyes is one of the biggest issues with AG hunting. I am very excited about the smooth twist X and being able to adjust!
good video man. I like it... but what you think about (rti) priest air rifle.. thank you
Bullboss you can adjust hammer spring and trigger pull
Two contrary deciders for me. Noise and magazine loading. Both of those steer me to the Hatsan. If Sumatra quiets that beast down, and adjusts the mag to handle those longer slugs I’d reconsider. That >900 FPS energy is nice.
The Sumatra is an excellent gun, but we agree that the noise is a big drawback.
You should try it out again with the fx crown and test which twist rate is the best for those slugs
completely agree, probably a slower twist rate tham the standard 12:1 of the .25 cal Crown unchoked might work best. We'll just have to anxiously await those different liners for the crown!
Would love to see what it does at 100 yards
SUMATRA WINS, THE BEST, A BEAST
Can't wait till I get another one got 45 can't decide between 25 0r the 30 caliber
Sumatra is bad ass. I won't one
Condor will smoke all of them in power in 24 inch barrel. Put the Hercules bullpup by Hatsan in the mix. Thanks.
Great video
Thanks Ton!
Very cool & informative video..
Thanks!
I'd like to see the bullboss with the hammer spring preload turned up.Its probly capable of 800fps with those slugs
Yep, I noticed it was stated that you can't adjust the hammer spring on the Bullboss, which is totally false.
The speed the Bullboss was firing puts it at around 45 FPE. That is more than the specs show (42 FPE). With its grouping, (the 4th shot was the shooter) I would have given the win to the Bullboss. It was right where it was supposed to be and extremely accurate.
Impact might have done better with a .25 cal slug liner in it
And how much that one liner cost? It will get better fpe with the liner or just better accuracy? $2000 + liner...
@@diy_tigremasacre6176 Slug liners in Canada are $115.www.airgunsource.ca/us/fx-stx-slug-liners-a.html?id=38970331&quantity=1
how about trying the Evanix Rainstorm II. would like to see how that does with those slugs.
not a bad idea, it would be interesting to see how they work with the Evanix. Trying to remember if they choke their barrels or not?
Can we see a Condor Bounty Hunter 24 inch barrel and the Sumatra both at max power wheel H2H?
Are they cast or swagged? I find it hard to believe the ridiculous performance from the armada. I shoot the marauder in .25 and have been wanting to try a slug. Those rounds from hunters supply didn't get good reviews from other sources , however the slugs from Mr hollow point did , I think I'll test both thanks for the vid and a good starting point.
you are using the standard magazine for the Sumatra ?
I demand a rematch between the standard 24 inch barrel Condor and the Sumatra!
If you do not comply with my demands, you can just send me a bunch of the slugs and a Sumatra. I will be happy to do the testing for you against my Condor.
Thanks for all the great videos.
Not a bad idea, perhaps a future head to head from us!
@@airgundepot with 6.3mm ID tophat and 3mm travel, im getting 860fps with 76grain. yes i agree with nomad. even with standard 24inch barrel stock tophat it will be an interesting contender
@Proud Deplorable I just got a Sumatra and it is what the video shows. Its loud, its heavy but I be damned if it ain't powerful. This thing sent a Benjamin domed pellet through a 3inch block of wood with the wheel set on green. Bro, this thing is no joke.
Derrick Mitchell shit man, I just got mine 5 days ago and it is a total beast! Dont use regular .25 pellets tho because they are likely to fall right through the mags. Use a more fitted .253 like these, they're better!
@@kiddg447 use which kind?
Very impressive video, well done guys.my question can you fire slugs in Vulcan 2.?does anybody have try to?
We haven't tried it ourselves, but we are some people have.
My Sumatra likes the 48g HP best. Really good slug. But some times Hunter Supply quality control is not on par. Ive gotten a box of a 100 w/ 71 deformed before. But AGD made it right. My pellet days are over.
Glad we were able to take care of you.
Awsome vidio guys
Thanks Phillip!
Please, 22 cal slugs please test samara out again show how they fit mags, if they workout. I will be buying tons of from you. Great vid thankyou it's been on mind for a long time!!!!!
We'll be doing extensive slug testing in the future so stay tuned!
I like this idea
I wonder if the galation would work with these
Do you folks sell suppressors/silencers for that beast Sumatra? I love that gun, went hunting with a friend who has one. Scared all the game away, too loud...We just used my FX .25 Wildcat. Got the job done and very quiet...
We do not sell suppressors/silencers for Sumatra, there may be some aftermarket product you can get your hands on.
Hey- which ammo does the Seneca Eagle Claw .25 (Non carbine) like most? Have you tested that gun yet?
The look identical to RCBS bulletmold for the.25acp.
Great video, very well presented. We are looking extremely forward to sending you a lighter 39-grain HP, that I have just spent the better part of two late nights worth of work designing, just to discover....I have had the design the whole time! Expecting choked and "smooth twist", will not be an issue....nor length. On that note, its almost 3:00am EST and time for sleep! Thank YOU for sharing, A. Clark/Aeromagnum Aeromunition, LLC.
We look forward to that slug and any others you come up! Thanks Al
I love my Dragon Claw! Go Seneca!
Would like to know the noise level of the Sumanta. Sorry, but the Sumantra makes me think "why not just grab a 22lr.
Remember big "O" closed the last lead refinery in the USA so all new metal is from overseas.
That Sumatra.... would you say Earplugs would be a good idea even shooting outdoors?
It's quite a nice rifle, I've never seen much of it before, though.
Yea, absolutely I would say to use earplugs. It's a bit on the loud side. Now if you're hunting and just taking one or two shots, you might be okay. But putting in trigger time, plug up.
Thanks! I use special earmuffs for hunting, they turn on and block loud noises automatically, and I'd use those for target practice too.
My guns are either not too loud, springers, or silenced, so I don't have experience with loud airguns. The sumatra would probably be the first high-powered one.
If only the Edgun Matador R5 was in that line up it would have been a whole different story...
They should have and offer exchangeable barrels. One for pellets one for slugs. Than even mag break barrels might shot slugs fairly well.
Would you recommend these slugs for the umarex gauntlet .25cal
Some have reported good results with them, but keep in mind that they are cast so they have a higher level of alloy in them than most pellets, which means they will lead up the barrel a lot faster.
try it with a webley patriot .25
"i'm blown away" Lol
What Chronograph did you use ?
Hi guys was wondering if these .25 slugs from hunters supply are new or are they the same as the ones they always offered? I have tried the slugs before in my condor ss and they didn't seem to go all the way in the barrel. Any problems for you maybe I should just push them in harder? As always thanks for the review and keep up the good work.
It's a good question. Technically we should have made it clear that they are new to us, meaning we just started carrying them from HS. I know they have sold them direct for over a year or so, but not sure if they changed dies/swages/etc from what you have tried. We're planning on digging into them more with an unshrouded Condor. As you can see they worked really well for us on the SS. They don't seat past the first gas check ring, but that didn't seem to effect accuracy or power for us.
What setting on the power wheel did you use to get those fps?
Thanks again guys
When shooting cast slugs, it’s a who other game. You need to make a lead-in at the breach and have an un-choked barrel with plenty of power. The gun really needs to be setup to shoot slugs to work best. I have a Condor setup for slugs and its making over 130 FPE. You can see all the pars I used on my CZcams. I can by experience tell you it’s best to have one setup for pellets and one setup for slugs. You can get just a condor body with no bottle and barrel from Airforce and build it from there. Or... just get the Samatra 2500
im trying to see how you actually fit those slugs in the Airforce Condor, i got some Nielsen Ammo and the things won't go in past 1/4"..got 3 bags of these..75 bucks of fishing sinkers?
Did you get the .25 caliber slugs or the .257 slugs? The .25 caliber slugs fit very snugly, but you should be able to get them to seat flush.
are the magazines for the bullboss the same width as other Hatsan .25 cal guns?
Yes, they are the same open rotary mags. Just not the same as the Hatsan semi autos.
Could you try these slugs in a Hatsan AT44 QE Long
No, they'd be too big for the magazine.
I have to ask whats with the condor ss all the 24in barrels up there and you pick a neutered condor? I have been pushing those slugs at 970 with my escape....
We always have a Condor SS laying around the office as it's one of our favorite rifles (preferring the sound suppression over the more powerful unshrouded) I think the next move for us is testing a condor against the sumatra and pushing things out to 100 yards!
What about break barrrels line the benjamin trail
Not trying to start any problems, this is just my opinion. The condors are single shot, which I wish they would make it a repeater, I like the my Sumatra, just wish they would make a 8,9,10 round mag instead of 6 rd mag. (the eagle claws have). As for as power/accuracy the Hercules bully can and will match both guns and the mag holds 13 rds, and so far I haven't had a problem with the fitting or rotation of the rds. Also the en juns and grizzlies were my go to slug before they came out with the Hunter supply slugs. The bully, (or at least mine) will shoot all three rounds with no problem. Using the HS slugs I took a deer @ 45-50 yrds with the Hercules bully. Grab the 25 cal instead of my 30 cal but it did the job. Was pleasantly surprised. And NO, I'm not getting paid by HATSAN or any of the stores that carry the Hatsan Line of airguns, lol, I'm just stating FACTS. Happy Shooting
Id like to add. W/my Sumatra 2500 500cc in .25. Untuned (as far as i know i bought it at estate auction (1 scratch) a month ago for $150, unknown history. Its stamped SamYang/Airventuri, not Seneca S# is lower than some ive seen on images on internet. Ive no idea if its the older barrel or the newer .251...im learning, dont know what the older barrel is i just keep reading where the newer are .251). For best results...(they penetrate 6.5" into solid block of ice at 25yrd on setting 12, disintegrate against iron plate at 75yrd on level 6) power level 6 on up. Any setting under that and they spread. More power=more accurate. Power level 6 is good to 40 yrd. Same POI from setting 6-12 to 25yrd. Then the actual weight of the slug comes into play. I can hit the large red bull cans at 135yrds on power level 12 w/ 2nd mildot zeroed at 25yrd on level 6 w/ these slugs...ill be ordering these 12 box at a time w/ AGD deals and service. Ive tried all the common pellets, they all work good at 25yrd, but enter 100 yrd and Benjimin and JSB win out. JSB in 25g or 34g...but as far as The Sumatra goes? done w/pellets...slugs. 49g work good, but 48g has even higher BC and holds tighter groups. Its always windy here. But the accuracy of these slugs in this gun is a "me" thing. On a good "me" day theys nothing i cant put a 48g HS slug on up to 150yrd. If 1 can hit a large red bull can over a 100yrd 1 can hit a Crow. Itll open up a 15 lb ferrel tomcat at 45 yrd...1 shot, done deal.
AirGunDepot is my go to for these slugs. Better deal than from HS store, do the math. Better deal than MidWay for sure
Id love to know about what year it was made or any 411...Any Sumatra gurus out there? i wanna know what you know about this piece...but again...my pellet days are over (ive many hot tuned Hat 135' in .22, .25 and .30, they why i bought the hand pump to begin w/ then i got lucky, Air Ram at 175 bar on one. 41fpe, so pellets for them still). But my hand pump days are not until i get a compressor...haah. I got lucky w/ this find i know, get it tuned when it shows signs of needing one. Right now all it needs is air and slugs. Lotsa both...AGD, HS slugs
Thanks for any intel
hi. what kind of pellet used the Sumatra? hope you answer. Thanks. Nice video
We recommend a heavy pellet like H&N Baracuda or JSB heavy.
A bit late but try the eun jin 43's
did not shoot the air force escape,,I have these slugs in solid and hollow point but haven't tried them yet,,hoping they will perform as this rifle has some power,,was impressed with the unchoked barrel which can be bought for the air force rifles allso
Yea, we have heard that they do well in the escape. Let us know how they perform.
wow,, they got some impact,, blowen right threw 3/4 inch plywood at a measured 35 yards and accuracy was excellent in both hp and round nose, I thought the tapered barrel might be a issue but performed well, definitely a very good hunting pellet,,, with a good shot placement they should do well on larger game ,,
Why no Hatsan Hercules in the group? The Armada is a great rifle in .25 for general small game but the Hercules hits like a freight train in .30 (which is what I have) so I suspect it is just as devastating in .25. With the Sumatra being so loud it almost defeats the one of the biggest advantages of hunting with an airgun; quiet. The Hercules doesn't exactly whisper but it is dramatically quieter. So come on guys; how about one more match up. Put the Sumatra up against a Greek god.
We can check the .25 cal Hercules, but we don't expect much different results than the BullBoss. Certainly the Hercules has a lot of air, but doesn't necessarily mean the valve is different than the BullBoss. We'll double check though
Actually we were wrong, does look like the valve is different on the Hercules. We might have to explore a little further. Thanks for the tip
g wolfe also that bt65 & walther maximathor, daystate air ranger ,all are powerful. 25 that should have been on here
And to add to the list, RAW has a new .25 cal that looks like a beast as well. As mentioned, it's the golden age of PCP air rifles - wallets beware!!
@@bigearl8687 do you have a 25 can Sumatra, and if so what do you hunt?
Now try the same thing with .22
The Sumatra is not the prettiest looking gun but she sure is beautiful inside.
OK. One more question. Do you know if it is compatible with Sumatra magazine ?
Yes, they're compatible with the .25 cal Sumatra.
Can you tell the length and diameter of these slugs please? I have an Evanix Rainstorm 3D Bullpup and I want to try them but if they don't fit in the mag, it's not easy to load them with thick fingers!!!
exact diameter is .251" and the length is .422"
what pellet used? where can I get that pellets? I got a Sumatra cal .25
www.airgundepot.com/hunters-supply-25-cal-fp-49-gr.html
www.airgundepot.com/hunters-supply-25-cal-php-48-gr.html
My AirForce Condor shoots them at 940fps.Use the regular Condor.
Will they fit in a hatsan 125? I'm new to air rifle
You could probably get them in but it's not going to shoot them fast enough to stabilize so they are accurate.
Using the airforce ss automatically was a mismatch, it should have been the condor or escape series!
Not a real test for the Airforce! Should have used the standard condor with the longer barrel!
go back and do the condor VS the Sumatra
We're thinking of doing a head 2 head with those two.
I agree I’d like to see a full sized Condor comparison as well (needs to be a post-Escape Condor as they have they have higher flow valves than older Condors).
Do a head to head, to head, Add the Hercules bully, or Hercules. The bully has more power than the Hercules, but the Hercules would be formidable. Also the 25 cal mag for the bully will hold the slugs and allow rotation with no problem and it holds 13 rds
Sumatra full length vs carbine + condor full length vs SS
@@vangoghaway626 that would be cool, and interesting to see the differance in the shorter barrel. is the full size and noise worth it? lets find out!!!
How about trying them in a at44 25 cal
AT44 should have almost the same results as the BullBoss since it's the same powerplant. An AT44 Long would work better though
So what is the twist rate on the Sumatra?
1:18 right hand twist.
My AirForce Condor shoots them very well. My Benjamin Armada does not shoot any slug good.
What about hatsan hercules bully
I can’t believe you didn’t include the most popular air gun of 2017 the Umarex Gauntlet.
We've got plenty of other Gauntlet videos to check out 🙂
Airgun Depot
Yes but does it like that lead? Can it handle the slugs? That’s my curiosity.
The Gauntlet still hasn't been released in 25 cal, and the .22 version is a little under powered for slugs.
The Bullboss is less than half the price of the FX and can be tune a little higher. Ill take the Hatsan Bullboss all day.
Ok can you guys shoot some .22 cal. Neilson slugs out of Sumatra ? Or tell hunter supply some one else is going to make vid with Neilson slugs!!!
We are planning on doing extensive testing with the Nielsen and other slugs soon.
My Kral Puncher Mega .25 pushes these slugs at 687fps and are literally slug on slug at 50 yards.
Terry, we are glad to hear that!
With a slug liner and tuned for over 900 FPS the Impact would have stole the show
Yeah, but with nothing done to the Sumatra it's a beast.
I agree it’s a hammer !! 8# hammer but I want one
@@fj55tyrant I did a squirrel at 10 yards in my backyard with the Sumatra, pushing out those Grizzly pellets. The head shot was nasty and it dropped him like it so fast.
Tell FX to make a non choked barrel for that slug.
pretty funny because you can obviously adjust the bullboss he says you can't
Buenas noches de qué forma o manera puedo conseguir esos plomos gracias
Hey Miguel, we didn't do very well in Spanish class. How can we help you?
👍
LOVE MY DRAGON CLAW 45 CAL WHAT A BEAST, WHERES MY 25CAL AVENGER THAT HOLDS 4335 PSI/ 300BAR? what a beast?
Why not a Hatsun Hercules
I have a Remington Model 725VTR Nitro Mag
As entertainment it's fine but it's not a serious test. The first level is artificial. Second level winners are selected. If you only want to test the Sumatra vs Fx Impact, then do that, and don't waste time with the others. You say it's all about the power. but then some of the lower powered guns grouped pretty well.
But would a slug work in a break barrel?
Not recommended as it will be too slow or even get stuck in the barrel depending on the model.
please hope you answer
shot count on Sum and Con ? lol i know who won that
