I run the NF-A14 2k's in my system and have six of them. Three on the front 420mm radiator, two exhausting out the top and one exhausting out the back of a Phanteks Evolv X case. The system is generally so quiet you can't tell it is on except for the LEDs, but pushed to the limit it can get pretty loud. Can't imagine using the 3k's, which I thought about for a moment before comparing the noise levels.
With 420mm rad of course you don't need much of fan speed. It seems to me that it can be pretty useful in more compact system where there is limited cooling capacity and if one only occasionally needs to crank up cpu to full utilization fan like this can keep up with it with undersized cooler at expense of noise.

Bought 2 NF-A14 3000 brefore i even read the description and now its sometimes hella loud and what you described as cooling affect i can feel it too. When i put my hand behind my pc case while running heavy games the gpu heat flies so fast out of the case that i dont feel heat escaping but chill air instead. They are monsters and very good aslong as you run them under or at 50% speed. After 50% noise levels rise up pretty fast. Thank you for making review about it, I thought I'm losing my mind after i checked the spec sheet with 'supposed noise production' of 40 ish db. It caught me of guard when i tested it my self and hit 62db on closed front case. Case is Corsair Carbide 275r (non-airflow model).
If you wanna get rid of the insane speed jumps, you can use one of Noctua’s PWM blockers. Or anybody else’s. There are tons of them out there.
Unsure to what max-speed they would be throttled, but it’s definitely better than 100% on pc start ^^

Yup, extremely disappointed in noctua for that, they're so worried about their silence focused marketing that they straight up lie about their noise levels by an order of magnitude. Wtf are you doing noctua? People buy their products for their no bs approach but ig their marketing team took the reins.
I bought one too several years ago and its been sitting in the closet ever since I realized how loud it is. Even running it at minimum speeds is not silent like a regular noctua. It's great at pulling air, but there just isn't a silent speed for it. Also I don't know if the site specs are wrong or the packaging is wrong, but my static pressure specs are listed at over 10mm instead of 6mm. My heatsink fan is starting to get noisy when it has to ramp up, so I might have to pull it out and use it as a backup. The main place it shines is as an exhaust or intake fan though. It's soo strong it will make your case negative pressure, but it will pull in soo much air from everywhere that it makes sure there aren't any dead zones where things can heat up. You could even technically use it in a build with no intake fans. My case has two small 80mm intakes, and it pulled soo much air as an exhaust fan that the intake fans were basically pointless. Would have been nice if they could have made it just as quiet as a normal fan.
@@peoplez129You probably didn’t configure yours correctly. I have TWO of these in a Lian-Li O11D Evo set to intake. You can have noise normalized levels below 40% and still retain good performance. Both of mines are running at 14% power when I’m just browsing the web or doing something light and they follow my GPU’s junction temperature. All of this is controlled by “Fan Control”. Once you get above 1K RPM. That’s when they really start screaming. Otherwise, they sit quietly below 1K RPM.
Just ordered one of these to be used as an exhaust fan… didn’t realise it was the industrial version.. this is gonna be fun and hopefully not to loud 😅
my fan controller software stopped working so these fans were at 100% for a day... my parents could hear them upstairs
Have these fans installed into my cabinet, had to cap the RPM to 50%, else these monsters will tear apart anyone's ear drums with the kind of noise they create.
Yeah, makes sense. But at 50% they are still monstrous. Overkill, but monstrous.
And noctua has the fucking gall to say these fans are only 41db at 3000rpm. I expected more than straight up lies from a brand as premium as they are but I guess not. For context a quiet library is 40db, tf are they measuring it from, the moon?

How are these tests using the fan? Are they only used as case fans, only as CPU fans or both and are you using an air cooler or a radiator, also can you set the A-14 Industrial bellow 25% like at what percentage will it stop spinning.
I fitted my Corsair Carbide Air 540 with 5 NF-A14 2000s back in 2016, still going strong in 2024, great fans.
This fan is a beast. I'm running 3x NF-A14 3000 in my H510 + 2x120mm 3000 Industrial fans (including air cooler - D15S). Noise is not a big problem for me, so I aloow it run at 100% for certain very short tasks (Silent Mode is default for everything else)

Thanks for the video with all that data. Just a point, I am able to run my industrial NF-A14 3000rpm fans as lower than 25%. RPM goes to below 400rpm and are very quiet. You are totally right in that there is absolutely no need to run them at anywhere near 3000rpm though. When I bought them, they weren't much more than the other 140mm fan so I thought why not. One downside compared to the non-industrial fans is you don't get the other accessories in the box.

@@STSYT I use argus software to control my fans.
I use a pair of these in a small rack cabinet to draw air into the case the rack holds my firewall, switches and some media kit.. All that kit dumps a lot of heat fast when you have everything running. With the standard fans it wasn't unusual to see the case temps sit around 40c + in summer (using the switch readouts), with these I barely hit above 30c more often it's sitting at 20c. It's insane how much air these things draw into the rack in fact we had a test that held a piece of A4 at the bottom of the rack and it was almost powerful enough to hold against the vent, I assume if we air sealed the case it'd probably do so!

I'm thinking about putting 2 of these in the front of my Dark Base Pro 900 V2. Got 2x 280x45mm rads in that case. The PC is not completely build yet. I'm still waiting for the last parts to arrive. But i somehow doubt the 2 included Silent Wings 3 in the front will be enough to overcome the resistance of the closed front door and the radiator behind them. But those Noctuas probably would be sufficient.
Strap the whole thing to your table. It might move otherwise.
These fans are very cool (ha) but also very niche, if noise doesn't matter there are far crazier industrial fans than spin at 5k, 7k and even 11k that will blow (ha) the PPCs out the water. These would be useful for applications where they usually have to be quiet but occasionally needs some serious burst cooling
We just got some 6k Gelid fans inhouse. Damn I’m afraid each time I start them
I run them. 2 on an nhd15. Fan curve of course to keep noise down. When cpu goes 100% it ramps up to max rpm and it keeps the system cool. In order for it to work the case fan needs to remove the air, so i got a 200 plus cfm delta server fan removing the air from the case also on the same fan curve.
I think for general use the 200rpm version are the best compromise as when you start going above that noise can get a bit annoying as most industrial fans above about noise they care about the cooling capacity, if you do happen to buy this 3000RPM version do yourself a favour and pick up some in line fan speed reducers to lower the RPM of the fan a tad.
I have a Gigabyte RTX4090 Gaming OC in a Hyte Y60 case. Unbeknownst to me, you can only vertically mount GPUs in this case. Since the card takes up 3.5+ slots, the fans are only 4mm from the glass. I have 2 Phanteks SK140's in the bottom blowing up. Not really sufficient, nor an ideal cooling solution. I'm going to replace the one under the 4090's PCB with one of these NF-A140 iPPC 3000 PWM fans and see what happens. The most obstruction is on that fan due to the PCIE riser cable being right there as well. Hopefully the $30 6.58mmH2O Noctua fan has enough pressure to still blow air through the fins and heat pipes within the GPU. The shroud of the GPU is quite small with lots of fin exposure on both sides with plenty of passthrough with enough pressure. I'm not a teenager into kid games like APEX or Fortnite where I'm worried about my friends hearing noise from my PC. As long as they cool and won't damage my hearing then they're perfect for me. If I see improvement, but not as much as I'd like to see, then I'll replace the other SK140 as well. Noise be damned
Noctua Fans are so good , believe it or not, Im using the Industrial 2000 non PWM 140x140 version on my yamaha aerox radiator too cool it down in the very hot summer days. Works excellent. my overclocked 9700K gets cooled by 2 x nf-a12x25 , best fans ever!!!
Been riding an Aerox myself back in the days. And yes, I absolutely believe you. Had to stop a few times because of the heat. The glowing red exhaust pipe was useful though

I had never heard someone encouraging so many people to buy this things by advising not to. LOL 🤣 But It's OK, I already had put 7 NFs on my PC (6x120, 1x140)mm and they seem to be cooling my 13900KF nicely. However no one needs to run these fans 100% speed all the time. Do the right curve according to your temperatures and you will be surely fine. Thanks for the video.

i always run the 140mm 3000rpm as an exhaust rear fan. i use the 2000rpm waterproof 67 ones for everything else and always pwm. i have stuk my rad in the window in winter and the fans run fine. they get wet its fine. i have had them rained on too

That may also come from your mobo. They should be spinning at >10%. Try finding some option in your bios along the line of “fan stop”. That one might solve it
As a person with multiple passive Nvidia Tesla gpus, i see this as an absolute win
The person needing this, is someone that is doing a upgrade but looses space for push pull on a rad or doing a over kill setup. I will be going from a x79 to a x299 and adding a rtx 3070 to the loop, so a 200mm is added with the 280mm. In turn will be using two of these on the 280 and 4 sanyo 9a 92mm fans on the 200mm, and the vrm will be 3 sanyo 9p 40mm fans. Thay will be use on a phobya touch 530, that I have tested all read. Yes at max speed, they are loud but not bad at a slower speed.
So a bequiet 901 case will be perfect for these little monsters

It’s still the same fan thought. You can take a look at the Noise to performance graph and just look at where the line is at +- 70% of it’s own length. That should be roughly 2000rpm

I want to buy noctuas fans! But not 100% wich of them buy. I will go all with 3000 rpm, and also want buy a ndh15, cuz i will update cpu from ryzen 5 1600x to a 5800x3d, so i want to put 2 IPPC on front of gabinet, 2 to the ndh15 (total of 4 ippc of 140mm) and 1 at the back of 120 MM (1 IPPC OF 3000 120 MM) (thats because in theory my gabinet, dont let me put a 140 mm at the back) and the 2 fans that comes with the ndh15, put them on the top of gabinet to push out air (same with the ippc of the back). U think it will do good work about airflow? Also what i was wondering is....make difference put 3 fans to the ndh15 instead of just 2? 🤔

* i hv 4 spots for conecting fans on my MOBA, so i am thinking on buying the cables to conect 2 fans together, so i can hv a total of 8, so i am thinking 2 choices:
A) put a 3rd fan on the ndh15
B) put 1 fan of 120 mm on the "floor" of gabinet

Putting 3 fans on the NH-d15 won’t really give you extra performance, but a lot less noise if configured properly.
For you fan layout, sure, will work like a charm, but a bit overkill for your use case ^^
You could also go for a regular nh-d15, 2x 140s in the front, a S12A in the back and top-back, and you would be all set.
Putting an extra 140 on the nh-d15 will take away some noise, but anything from there on is just unnecessary extra. Extremely high performance extra, but still not really necessary.
IPPC fans in general are great, but they are so much overkill for basically everything :p

Who is this for? Me! One of my hobbies is building & painting gundam models with noxious paint. I've been trying to find a new fan for my spray booth since my current one moves 141 CFM which is almost enough to deal with paint fumes not not quite there. 169 CFM sounds like it's exactly what I need. Someone that's trying to keep noxious paint fumes out of their house is much less bothered by noise than someone trying to play a video game.
Makes sense. I checked with other Noctua Fans, there is nothing capable of pushing more. Though the special NF-A20 HS- edition might push more, but no.
I'll just hope they will be able to keep you from inhaling all of that :p

You should try mining fan high rmp lets say 6k on cpu to see the temperatures

People here talk about 3000 rpm fans like they are a jet engine when they have yet to experience the ultimate of Delta's finest that surpass even 10K rpm! Some affectionately call them Delta Airlines just because of how loud and proud they get. Also, don't you dare put your finger near one of these bad boys or you will be making an ER visit to stitch back what was lost.

Do these really only go down to 800 rpm? I worry that at the lowest they won't be silent enough for me. I don't really care about highest speed
They go down to what ever you like. Im running them at 450rpm currently which is 12 percent in my asus apex board. I have to run them in a chassis fan slot though as in the CPU slot the lowest they will go is 20 percent which is too loud for me at night.

I think the graph was bias because you're comparing this Noctua 140mm to other 120mm brands. I have the Lian Li infini 140mm and your graph is showing the 120mm UNI are pretty close at the to of the list. Why didn't compare the Lian Li 140mm instead?

They are definitely not the "best" anymore. Especially for noise to performance. Bequiet, arctic, thermaltake are better 140mm.

Depends on what you use them for. But even under the "worst" conditions, there is just a small amount of coolers capable of competing under very specific circumstances
I'm using 3 of these on the arctic 420mm AIO using ryzen 5950x at max speed when I'm rendering and the temps never crossed 63°c in summer 😁

@@ZorzGaming I use three of the 2k version with my Arctic 420mm (also on a 5950x) and generally top out in the mid to high 50s. Use an "enter through rad" rather than an "exit through rad" layout with three more of the 2k as exhaust fans and my PSU in its own air channel. Except under heavier loads the system is nearly silent. A lot of how quiet your system will be is based on case choice, vibration isolation, and and proper fan curves. I used the Evolv X case which STS reviewed last year.

@@ZorzGaming If all you got from the 3k fans was 1 C, then you were ether really restricting their speed or there is some other issue interfering with your cooling system.
If you are heavily limiting their speed, then buying the 2k fans for less money is the way to go.
@@TheInfinityzeN No I had them all at 3k. Another youtuber found the same thing... My case is an open air case so maybe that means I'm already getting great temps. But the 1700 RPM arctic fans vs the 3000 noctua was a 1 degree difference if that for 10 x the noise :(
