My old school had an army of iMac G5s. I went there recently, and they upgraded to 2008 ones. Perfection.
@Sony LK All the acers are shitty celeron/pentium chromebooks now
@Sony LK yes.
This one is not a G5
My school used to have both but moved them to the back of the gym to save space. They also have old xerox printers and the unibody white MacBooks.
its not a G5
I love how this has the same specs as a modern HP pc that you can buy
That isn’t a surprise
Which modern HP pc?
The first iMac I ever used when my school got a few of them in. We would use them for certain projects like I used garage band for an audio editing assignment. They were set up to dual boot with Windows XP as well which we would often to when using them at break time because a lot of us were very unfamiliar with Mac OS.
The first computer I used was a iMac G3.
We had our IMacs also dual booted with WinXP and they lagged allot.
@@badware2266 what were the specs?
@@mrcyborg9216 close to the ones in the video, appart from the ones in school having less storage
@@badware2266 oh
I still have my original MacBook (the white MacBook from 2006?), I should take it out sometime and see how it works! It lasted me over 7 years, including my first year of CS classes in undergrad. What a beast. And it had a CD drive.
Make a backup of the drive and throw in a SSD and some Ram and install Mac OS X Tiger.
@@mrcyborg9216 Chrome OS Flex is a great idea too 😅
@@pysab its to old for it to run.
@@mrcyborg9216 not if he upgrades the cpu to a c2d for next to nothing
@@dustinnrussell IDC its Mac OS X Tiger
We actually still have two of these at my school (one is in the printing room and the other is shared between the biology and physics labs) They still work wonderfully!!
You need to make a copy of your Harimus just in case lol Good one! Brings back memories of those days, though I never owned an Apple. Always hated those mice, still do today.
I still have my old Panasonic NV-GS320 and we used it for taping vacation and stuff until about 2017. Last summer I got a firewire to thunderbolt adapter and I dumped about 30 hours worth of video from tape to my mac with iMovie.
Glad to have you back, Sam Bro!!!
I still remember these computers being the powerhouse of our kindergarten classroom….
This was lovely! 😍 Your first videos showed a comedian in the making.
Dunno about 2006 models, but I've got iMac 21 late 2012. I swapped HDD for SSD and it still flies years later!
Put an SSD into it, install Windows 7, 8.1 or Linux and it will run pretty damn well
Linux yes NOT windows! You have to know a thing or 2 however with these intel core 2 Duo and how to get the graphics card supported.. if you know that you are soaring
If I may say, I’ve just subscribed. The mock Apple vids didn’t really lure me in, but this content I could use more of!
Aww, mini Sam is adorable!!
I am the lucky owner of two models of this beautiful iMac and I have never resigned myself to putting it away because it is "obsolete"... I recently gave new life to this beautiful computer by installing Linux Mint Debian Edition 5 (Elsie), 64 bit and the result was simply fantastic!!! Don't put this beautiful jewel of technology in the attic, which can still give you a lot of satisfaction....
I have a 20 inch iMac G5, one of the last ones ever made with an iSight cam. I used it to draw something in Photoshop CS3 this morning...
You made me LOL out loud when you talked about instead of running to the next episode; it runs copyright warnings.... ah the nostalgia of 90s kids life
I think my first mac was a mini from 2012 and I still have it to this day its the one that let you upgrade the ram and hard drive. I did wipe it though and installed ubuntu linux on it and actually runs much better now even though has 8gb ram on it.
All the updates make things go old faster. My father has an outdated iPad, and now he only uses it to play Sudoku.
Thanks, Sam, well done. I love Harimus!
Love the found footage of you
Why was this not recommended to me?! I loved this video!
Thank you for for making a long vid….. u da goat
Haven't watched since 2019, but you still make great content.
Me born in 2006: thats as old as me
@3:00 We did have scroll, but on every other system, LOL. But definitely apple invented the scroll just later than logitech/microsoft/any other noname company
I can’t believe you survived an encounter with a false collie wildebeest!!! Hats off on you sir, I’m fairly certain you’re the only man on earth that can say that!!
I bought almost this same one for $15 from an estate sale, use it for Digital 8/firewire.
The copyright stuff is the best part of films lol
My school since has a bunch of these (but from 2008). We still have to use them, and its painful.
If you're looking for web-browsers for it, on my 2008 Black MacBook I've tried Waterfox (which kernel panics every time I open it bc it's got 2GB of RAM) and Firefox classic..? I don't remember the name but the Firefox classic works like a charm, as if they just ported the newest version to Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion.
That intro makes me feel old in comparison to your other viewers. The first computers I worked with in grade school until 8th grade were Macintosh Classics. I loved those joys of playing the original Oregon Trail on that 9in CRT. Damn Im old….der😂
It's been 15 years and apple still can't design mice
This
@@keyvanalizadeh2995 is SPARTAAA
I have the magic mouse 2nd gen and i love it lol it works for me i game a little and its nice for work too btw i dont care about the charger or i mean 5 min charge and you can use it for 2 days
I got a R.A.T.
Honestly
I love those old mac keyboards they were so satisfying they should make them again, we used to run our FireWire audio interfaces and make music in macpro which dint cost two kidneys, a liver and a heart
Make a video about trying to install the Chrome OS Flex on this machine. I am sure, it would be fun. : )
Well, it’s PowerPC, so you can’t install Chrome OS or any other OS other than BSD or Linux
had the g5 imac of the same design and loved it - thought it was a great machine for the time. if you wanted a scroll however you had to buy the mighty mouse.
I’ve got a MacBook from 2006 (or whatever was the first white MacBook that came with intel :-) that works fine (I put a 60GB SSD in it), but HERESY I use it to run Windows 10 (which it does with the latest security updates!). My oldest laptop (starts but is a bit unreliable due to issues with the hard drive) is a PowerBook G3 that I bought in 1999
Install Windows 11 on it.
i've always wondered what Dan andrews would look like running a youtube tech channel and now i know - I love it! :)
How did you get Chrome on there? I have a Mac mini running Mac OS 10.6.3 and I can't even install it.
Young sam !!!we did not deserve that precious moment
0:06 that's true , I was born in 2007 😂
i have one partitioned and it works just fine, friend gave it to me, youtube still works fine,....runs good...still has traktor and all his music...
I find old Macs great for the Unix side of things, like using them as SSH terminals.
0:36 "is there no scroll on this?" haha, this got to me. That was the thing I hated the most when I was in school. My school had the imac g3 with the round mouse, and just a single button. No scroll, no alternate click. Ours were also roller-balled, not digital. Here he is talking about "this might be older than some of you watching" at the beginning, and he says this. hahahaha, just poking fun.
No Way!! It's the Legendary First film of Sam Timeron, the legendary director!
This was cool, I used a Windows XP Media Center laptop for 16 years then the video card died. Still have my old Ipod Nano wonder if that still works? It only has 2 GB of storage.
Na- No.
For pages to work, you'll have to dig up a copy of iWork '09 on DVD. You can still do real work on this machine if you try, but it's probably really painfully slow these days.
I had one. I loved it. I still have it.
that classical music is the same sound that you get in a taxi when a request comes through the taxi computer (mtdata). wakes u up.
Watching this I realised that the volume control on Mac hasn't changed since 2006.
This is a perfectly usable machine you just need to use older software. Use older MS Office or Open office and it’ll work fine as a daily computer, you can even use it for graphics design in Illustrator and Indesign, or even create layouts, it can edit music, it’s very workable.
How about music DAWs.? And connecting midi.
I love his adorable Leafy chin in the home video clip x3
And unlike Leafy he doesn't hide it behind a mic boom
i was installing a new os X on old mac mini not SSD and it took like 5 h to update ......
Wow, Sam had a Collie!
The Amber from Jurrasic Park! LOL
i have a imac 2011 i stil run it with manjaro linux not a bad machine may i ask
Wait, when did computers cost money? And when did apple make iMacs? I thought that was intel?
The scroll on those old Apple mice frequently breaks. They did have it originally.
“Before many of you came out of your mothers” I feel old
I’ve had two of these iMacs and neither one you had to push the dvd in it like that. This one must have a problem with the drive
Can you update RAM memory, to use more RAM?
Jokes on you Sam, I came out of my mother before this iMac 😎
You were quick, fam!
get gotted sam
Jokes on you, Don. I came in your mot.... nvm
I had the G5 version of this iMac!
nice i have early 2008 imac
Do you always upload at 8am sharp?
Exquisite, delightful.
I bought a 2007 iMac to use as a media player and DVD burner. It didn't work with the burn software, so I just use it as a DVD player,.
Currently thinking of getting one and installing linux
why was the disc burn icon the nuclear thing? lol apple
Bought first one, Mac LC in 1992, latest three weeks ago Mac book air, very nice laptops.
But the Macintosh LC was a desktop, not a laptop.
@@NijiDash Neither was the 2006 imac which the video is about 😌
@@clivebaxter6354 True, but your comment sounded like you called the Macintosh LC a laptop (at least to me).
Worked with one ball, just like Sam XD
If you have a Core 2 Duo on one of these with ATI Radeon X1600 graphics, you can patch to OS X 10.9 Mavericks and still get full graphics acceleration!
Then, you can sure find a browser that will give you a pleasant browsing experience!
@hd01 But with bugs.
Mavericks seems to bug a little bit as well on these machines but Mountain Lion doesn't it's like official support so go for that at the very least!
underrated channel
Can it Uno MS Dos?
Hmm you could also try Chrome OS flex or Fedora on there? 😆
Sam the man 💪
BTW I use Chromium Legacy on my Mac. It's basically the latest version of chromium but works on old Macs
The OS gets a little more robust when you put ElementaryOS on it like I did, lol
4:26 "you cant group layers??"
inkscape users be like : "First time?"
My kid uses a 15 year old Mac book as his daily driver.
Too old to update so we put Linux on it.
He likes it
Hey Sam, I love you.
Arctic Fox Browser would probably run well in that OS, as well as OpenOffice.
0:05 is a G5 iMac, the model just before your Intel. The cases were almost the same except for the lack of iSight camera and the vertically-arranged ports. I had a G5, it ran so hot and loud but it was the easiest iMac to take apart.
The Apple optical mouse only has one button, but the "mighty mouse" that came later added the squeeze button, right click sensing, and both vertical and horizontal scroll thanks to a little ball (that could get gunked up and stop working).
I bought new back in the day, a glossy white 20-inch G5 iMac and they are so easy to open for upgrades and repairs. Currently, I have two units one fully working and the other for spare parts. Today, it is used mostly for editing photographs using iPhoto '09 and watching over the air TV shows and movies using Elgato's HD digital recorder EyeTV 500 system. While, it is not the oldest Apple desktop in my collection, it is the only one that, I call "my baby" (smile...smile).
Those scroll balls stopped working so easily. Sold up until 2017 for some reason.
The G5 did have an iSight camera, but it was a seperate version.
@@axethepenguin I still have mine, it looked like a giant lipstick that plugged into FireWire! I thought the magnetic mount was very clever, but could have been a bit stronger. (To be specific, I should have said "lack of *integrated* iSight camera".)
@@axethepenguin Yes, you are correct the final version of this model did include a built-in iSight camera. Have this on my glossy white 24-inch Intel iMac but, I miss what was lost the easy to open and access to repair and upgrade your internal parts (i.e. hard drive, airport card, DVD super-drive etc.)
Just got a g5 today for $40
Childhood dogo looks like a very good boy or girl! 🐶
constantly hit the rewind the rewind button at 0:01 and it will sound like he is AYE AYE AYE
i love how random sam is
I have a 20 inch imac G5
I think that young man in the videos has a future!!
Here on the same day!
«Mikkrophone» 😂
yes ijust bought a white 2006 imac like 2 months ago
I use this pc for my daily browsing but it runs elementery os not macos
If you installed a lite weight Linux on it it'd probably be fine to use for general tasks and you'd be able to get software and security updates
We are running Ubuntu on one. We cloned it to look like OS, and its working fantastically.
It has a de-attachable power cable.
Where can I watch Harimus? The suspense is killing me.
Still better than any 2022 PC.
upgrade os on it to el capitan using third party tools
Most apple user would not see the difference between this and a new M1 since they only use safari and Netflix
