on JackSucksAtGeography we upload a range of easy to watch & sometimes educational geography related content. I have successfully learned all 197 countries and flags of the world. I also look at interesting maps to teach us more about different parts of the world and their culture. On this channel I also play Geoguessr.

Day 1
I love how Jack tries to demonstrate how good he is at German by holding a conversation that basically goes:
"Hello, how are you?"
"I'm, thanks. What about you?"
"I'm, thanks."
A tier conversation skills lol
Perfection
*"hi thanks, i'm jack"*
Except that "I'm, thanks" is actually a totally valid response in German, which I find kinda funny (not translated directly ofc)
he's saying "it's going." which you can say in German just as you can say in English. "how's it going?" "ehh... it's going."
@@reidleblanc3140 I'd translate it as "it's fine", but, yeah, that wouldn't be a word-to-word translation as much.
About Uruguay, the full name of the Country is "República Oriental del Uruguay" which roughly translates as "Republic at the Eastern bank of the Uruguay (River). So the name of the country is actually the location of the country with respect to the river
I thought it meant "eastern republic of the Uruguay" but yours makes more sense xd
@@dentescare It does mean that if you translate it literally, but the meaning is "Republic at the east of the uruguay"
No, it doesn't mean that. "Republica oriental AL uruguay" o "Republica AL oriente del uruguay" would mean that.
Republica oriental del uruguay just means "Eastern Republic of the uruguay", because it borders it and the other two countries that do border it already had other names.
@@akai4942 what if it means East of the Uruguay Republic?
Me: Hey, Chile is really going mental on that elevation map.

The tea thing is very insteresting! I once heard the phrase "Chai if by land, tea if by sea". It's not 100% accurate, obviously, but it's a fun bit of trivia.
As a Portuguese resident, I found it very funny when Portugal was the only country in Western Europe that didn't say a variation of "tea".
Iirc, word "chai" was brought to europe and then to near east by portuguese traders. But then later the dutch started selling tea too, but they were buying it from different region of china that had different pronouncing of the word
@@aaclovern9804 I read something about that, but I can't quite remember. It was something like this: most tea that came by sea came through a port where it was called "te", which then became tea, thé, Tee, etc. Tea that was traded over the land routes came from a different region where it was called "chai", and thus the countries that bought tea through the land routes adopted that term.
My memory is foggy, like I said, but it was something in that vein.
@@DancingAndDreaming persia uses chai. So maybe it's from there. I remember china and persia were the main reasons behind it.
its chai if the country/language has more eastern/islam influences, for example the balkans call it chai because of influence from the ottoman empire. All the way from eastern europe to pretty eastern asia, most countries will call it something adjacent to chai.
4:43 Seeing Jack be so confident about knowing a fact that's basic knowledge for us space people is so funny to me
same lol
Jack's "Enhance, enhance!" never gets old
2:45 I like how they had to exclude Mexico, because otherwise pretty much every state would just be Mexico
Jack, please make your videos longer. You have amazing content on the geography channel but they're not long enough.
Agreed. We want to see a 15 minute video.
@@capro3 ye that was rushed and half the maps ive seen before such as france vs olympus mons

I agree I love these kinds of videos but they should be at least a minimum of 10 minutes long, if not even 12/15

On the map of Europe showing percentage of people who would fight for Germany, I don't really think in reality Germany is that low, its just that people are scared to say yes, am I right about that?
Jack inspired me to learn about geography
( countries and flags ) now I can name them all
Thx Jack❤
Will this series end? We’ll never know. Love this series Jack!

I think Jack should look at the US places of worship map again with an overlay of population density. Yes, population density influences the number of places of worship, but you're going to be surprised by how disproportionately dense places of worship are in the American south, Appalachia, and a number of other rural areas east of the Mississippi
Yeah, like based on what he said, I’m not entirely sure he knows what a population density map of the US looks like lol
6:10 sweden has got 3 big tips 💀
2:11 Hey Jack, being fluent in more than one language isn't difficult at all, so long as you grew up with it. Outside the USA and some culturally homogenous places like Japan, you won't be considered smart or dumb based on how many languages you can speak. It's more of a circumstances of birth and upbringing thing.
Learning a new language as an adult is challenging, true, and even more so if you were previously monolingual. I've found that a lot of monolingual people haven't fully conceptualized how different different languages are, and if you don't 'get' that, you won't 'get' the language. They don't understand that direct translations are not accurate translations, for example, or how idioms are not universal, or how you sometimes don't have a word for something or have different homonyms. Some can't even consider different grammar rules and translate sentences word-by-word. And often they can't even touch a sound not in their home language.
Still, even though this 'incompetence' can look kind of dumb to those of us so used to different languages, while many Americans are in awe about people who can do something they can't multiple times over, but I don't think it is up to intelligence. It's just a part of the brain that didn't get developed from childhood, that will have little affect on your life otherwise.
I applaud you for taking on what is probably the hardest skill for you to pick up based on your background.
“i ain’t reading allat”
agreed! usually people learn several languages from their environments they were raised in anyway. and young brains are great at language retention. i speak english and french and i’m canadian and people get shocked … as if those aren’t the two national languages lol. usually people here grow up in communities that speak either or, not both (unless you’re from new brunswick or some parts of ontario)
yeah, studying linguistics really helps. But even with a background in Latin and linguistics, learning another language is still hard. It's mostly the speaking part for me. Reading and writing is pretty easy.
I don't like being that guy but, "how different different languages are" is a grammatically incorrect phrase, you need to take the second "different" out of the phrase. It would only work with two "different"s if there was a comma between them, but that would change the meaning of the sentence "how different different languages are" is in.
I agree I'm form a bilingual environment so I was exposed to a second language prety early on (eaven tho I don't use it as much anymore so I'm not good at speaking I still understand the language quite well) and then I have started to learn english in school so I really don't have a hard time learning languages now
Found this video completely by chance on my recommended, loved all of it, this guy is awesome

As someone from balkan I can actually answer this for you!
The most common job for balkan people to have is working abroad in germany on construction, and due to our...honestly poor economy the pay for even lower income jobs in Germany is a lot of money here, so it's extemely common for people in the balkans to work in germany ether directly or from home, earn money based on their pay, and then travel back and spend it here!

Hi Idk😊 0:33
The map at 1:34 is so cursed if you just keep looking at it
You where lucky with the flat landing in The Netherlands, as you where looking in a part where the surroundings are well above sea level. A bit more to the east and you've had hills up to 85 meters. And a bit more to the west you would have the Sallandse heuvelrug with hills up to 75 meters. Off course those hills are low compared to hills and mountains in other countries, but if you're standing next to a building who is 85 meters of height, that is a pretty tall building.
