    • @rahulhnair9162
      @rahulhnair9162 Před 3 lety +35

      Thats a great one.
Like in most religion there is a beginning and a end which keeps recurring like
      In Norse,
It started with Ymir, the first being, a giant who was created from the drops of water that formed when the ice of Niflheim met the heat of Muspelheim.(water)
And end is with Ragnarok, the Great war between realms. And few survivors for New Beginning.
      In Christianity,
The Story of Noah's Arc, where the Great Flood happens and New life begins.
The Revelation is the end, the prophecy of apocalypse and War.
      In Hinduism,
It begins with great flood too, and ends with a Great war(Prophecy).
      The Ancient Egyptian religion,
Supported annual flooding which at last was A huge flood.(wrath of gods)
And at last just like the Four Horsemen, war, pestilence, famine, death occurred even resulting in cannibalism.
There are many similarities between the different religions regarding the life cycles. And yes, looking at different planets and systems its unbelievable that there were no apocalypse before on earth. Maybe the prophecies aren't just warnings but Accounts of what might have happened in the past.
      Just a Theory

@@HighLordoftheBathroom The Aesir came from the more warlike Yamnaya people from the steppes. With traditions coming from sky-father beliefs.
The Vanir were the original European people from the forests. With traditions coming from earth-mother belief.
The Yamnaya and subsequent cultures took over much of Europe. We see that male Yamnaya's outbred native European men, but with native European women. So either they killed all the native European men in wars so they couldn't reproduce, or took/raided all the women and outbred the native European males in their own territory.
We see the same in the myth. The Aesir and Vanir went to war, and in the end Freya (Vanir) was forced to marry Odin (Aesir). And then the different pantheons were united in one pantheon.
It's kinda like both cultures fused with eachother over time.

Basically all the major weopons/fighters were related to loki (in ragnarok)
      For example:
      1. Thor's hammer: Gifted to thor by the dwarves as an unintentional consequence of loki trying recover sif 's hair.
      2. Odin's horse: See 'The walls of Asgard'.
      3. The walls of Asgard: Built by the master builder (It was loki's idea to trick the builder into building the wall for free). Odin's horse was the consequence of that.
      4. Loki's children and their descendants: They contributed A LOT towards the result of ragnarok. ( Hel's army, Death of Odin by Fenrir, Death of Thor by Jormungandr, Children of Fenrir eat the sun and moon)
      5. Death of Baldur the bright: Loki was a major cause of the death of Baldur the bright. Because of him Baldur was stuck in the underworld (It must be remembered that it was Hel who prevented Baldur's soul from returning from the underworld unless every single being wept or Baldur. Loki also disguised himself and did not weep, thus preventing the gods from fulfilling Hel's condition.)
Loki's Punishment: Loki indirectly made himself participate fiercely in ragnarok as the punishment for killing Baldur was that loki would be chained. This led to him going to the underworld to ask for an army from Hel. (I cant be sure whether loki would participate if he want punished by the gods.)

What's amazing is that the forces of the gods(einherjar) were far more numerous than one can imagine
    During fimbulwinter
Men constantly warred with each other and died in battle
Either dying against each other or packs of wolves while on the hunt
This means there was a surplus of the usual amount of einherjar that the valykries took to Valhalla
More people died fighting than people who died in other ways
Meaning more people formed the army of Valhalla than people who formed the army of hel
Even before fimbulwinter this remained the case
    As vikings existed
Yet surtr was still able to no diff all of the gods remaining(presumably even the vanir, since surtr generates all heat in the universe)
As well as all the einherjar
