“Bobby Jameson…Jesus.”
Keith’s reaction to hearing those songs after decades was fantastic. He was genuinely surprised to hear them.
Thank god some of these legends are still around
Keith will be around forever.
Keiths impersonation of Jack Sparrow is nailed perfectly here
He’s so much better sober! It’s awesome.
'All we have to do is get better at it' - And that they did!
I love Howard’s level of excitement
It’s a pure love
Love both of them
I'm a hard core Stones fan. I thought I knew anything and everything about the history of the band. This really surprised me to find out they were writing songs for other people.
Even the Beatles would write songs for other artists. Peter & Asher, Jackie Lomax, Badfinger, etc.
@@carlosrincon1551 and one for the Rolling Stones too
@@michalstrpka4800 Yes
I think from the way he was talking they werent FOR others, he and Mick wrote them then Andrew got others to record them...not strictly written for others but recorded by them afterwards ;-)
The stones first hit was written by the Beatles
This is amazing! Keith and Mick really crafted some great music before we knew they were crafting original music.
I love Keith Richardson’s jokes, his energy, he is cheerful and it’s so nice to see and realize...😊😜❤❤❤👏👏👏
Keith is my fave songwriter out of the two, such a talented creative individual. Fave Rolling stone member ever! Some great genius singers he wrote for. Love his genuine surprised reactions and laugh afterwards. What a cute handsome sweetheart, your so cool Keith! ❤ ♥️ 📝 😎🎶🎵
So cool to see react to Keith in real time!
What wonderful soul.
Keith is a genius song writer and musician!
Got to love Keith
Love his speaking voice.
Keith has always been very modest with himself but the truth is that he is one of the best composers of the 20th century.
I remember my brother, ten years my senior, being suprised back in the 70s that i was buying Staple Singers records. He would say: "with time you'll grow out of the Staple Singers and progress to the Stones. What better vindication of my musical taste than watching Keith say that 'Last time' was borrowed from the Staple Singers.
Lulu's version of «Surprise Surprise» is a masterpiece and by far my favourite recording of her.
Another song Keith and Mick wrote for someone else is Vashti Bunyan "Some things just stick in your mind" 1965.
Out of Time was a great one written for Chris Farlowe. As Tears Go By was their first for Marianne Faithfull.
Yes I deed and then the stones did some good version of them too
Happy 80th birthday Keith Richards!!!
He's forever a great interview.
Whip smart.
They recorded As Tears Go By, Surprise Surprise and Blue Turns To Grey also themselves, as The Rolling Stones.
Yes indeed they did
Their version of Surprise, surprise is very good
If Keith didn't become a rock star he would have been a famous comedian. He is always saying something funny.
Two Masters
tears gone by is just a great song when the stones did it.
Fun. Keith is fantastic! Calm and cool in the best way!
God bless him---still working.
Fun Fact: Keith actually invented music in the paleolithic era.
Say stone age don't be d%&k about it. Making me google this sh%t.
WAY tosoon
😂
You mean the era of good music
= The Stones Age
Any aspiring song writers? Listen to a master☝️❤❤
Most people don't realize that many song writers out there do write for others.
Howard asks the best questions
It's a sad world my grandchildren are leaving Keith
LEGEND
Stern can be a very good interviewer. This is a fine example
Keith and Mick should cut an album of the songs they wrote for others. 👌🤙
"Blue Turns To Grey" was a good one. Could've been a big hit for them if they had chosen to promote it.
did they write Fly me with balloons? That was a huge hit about 15 years ago
Blue turns to Grey a fab song. And Gene Pitney.
Alot of people dont realize that Lennon and McCartney also wrote tons of songs for others as well - many were number one hits.
Very true
What where they
Lennon and Macca wrote the Stones' first hit
The recorded "Blue Turns to Grey" on December's Children.
We need to do better for the environment because we all must consider the world we leave behind for Keith Richards 😂
Haha! After WWIII, keef will still be around
Howard should have listened to The Rolling Stones 's version of Blue turns to Grey..Because its pretty good..
A melancholic tune. I always think of Brian with this song
Blue Turns to Gray ... fantastic title ....
Wow...they wrote really cool songs when they began writing. The last time is amazing.
Did Howard talk about the "Exile on Main Street" days?
Hard to believe Stern came out of his bunker
"What do you feel listening to this?"
Rich.
I love it when Keith says that he wrote it but doesn't know it.
The Stones recorded a few of those songs as well.
Actually Gene Pitney sounded great on That Girl Belong to Yesterday.
Is anyone really surprised that he can't remember writing songs over half a century ago? Lol!
Howard dug deep here, interesting! Though I wish he'd mentioned "I'd Much Rather Be With The Boys"
Andrew Oldham took every cent of those early songs.
some things just stick in your mind, another one
Keith's laugh sounds better now.
Wait wait wait. A lot of these songs were written by them for other artists but they also recorded them and released them as singles or in albums. “Surprise, surprise”, “Blue Turns To Grey”, “As Tears Go By” we’re all released by them.
Yes
Underrated songwriter
???
so the stones "as the tears go by" is a cover.
Geez, Howard Stern got his panties really wet talking to Keith Richards!
Does howard know about the Dabbleverse?
Keith Richards replied to Howard by saying, " You take Ketk moon, when Howard said," take Keth Moon"😂
imagine if metallica wrote songs for megadeth, maybe dave would have ONE decent album
Does Howard know they wrote songs?
Tbf these songs ain't Stones material that's why they gave it away but a lot of these are darn good '60s pop
This could be the last time written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards for Lu Lu. Lol Howard
Keef will give a lecture on human civilization on the year 2199.
it's all vapor....
🛹🛹🛹
I thought The Last Time was written by Staple Singers, but if Howard, the renowned musicologists says it is by Mick and Keith, it must be so…
The chorus of The Last Time is clearly borrowed from The Staple Singers, and i dont think The Stones gave them credit. The 2songs as a whole are quite different, but they should have given credit for the chorus anyway
@@Joao-id4dn You should probably learn what constitutes plagiarism.
I think Keith died in the 1970's - he just didn't notice! Legend
Through the whole interview that went longer than this Howard Gives Keith practically all the songwriting credit without mentioning Mick and of course Keith is OK with it.
Why is Howard always telling his guests what they were thinking when he is asking a question?
Andrew Oldham was a genius music hustler but a lousy manager and record label owner. And unfortunately the Stones fell for his act and once they caught on, it opened the door for Allen Klein to come in and while he got them a better record deal than the Beatles, it took years for them to untangle themselves from their deal with him
Not sure they wrote songs for any particular artist. They were published, and other artist picked them up as they became available.
Surprise, surprise, and blue turns to gray were also recorded by the stones. They’re not that rare. Of course he remembers them.
All Stones fans know Blue Turns to Grey. I think Stern is always pretending to be a fan of the Stones.
True
Not fair asking him to remember what happened in the 60s when he can't remember what he had for breakfast LOL
I think Brian jhones lock kieth and mick jagger in closet😅😅😅😅
The Beatles wrote their first song lol
Hit not song
Not true, it was “come on” in June 63. A chuck berry cover
And what about “poison ivy “
@@queenbee12436PI was 1964
🤣😂🤣 ... THE LAST TIME and START ME UP are not that much different from each other.
The Last Time is Brian’s riff. Wish Keith would admit it
Why would they ? They drowned him
You’re funny. Keith wrote the riff, BJ played it on the recording
You were there were you?
@@arcticmonkey3 could say the same ab you so your point?
@@BTODDTHEGyou weren’t either so what’s your point
blue turns to grey was a song featured on a stones album, think it was december's children in '65.
Ian Stuart would often make the call if the song would go on the record or if it didnt make the cut.
Remember when HS had balls?
Much more dangerous then covid ever was
