Winning impacts valuations due to higher fan support of said franchise.
Fans almost always will be passionate about their local team BUT winning helps fans cheer for them away from the local area.

The tax is chump change to those who want to win BUT it is the other penalties that add up that push management to get below the tax.
That is why they changed it in the last CBA. It was designed to prevent teams from paying too many players. Too many players hit that 10+ mil a year salary much less the 50+ mil players increasing.
They learned how to cripple salary by studying the NFL. Salary cap be 80% to 3 or 4 players on a 15 player team 👀. NFL salary cap be 80% to 6 players on a 53 player team.
