- Explore the incredible variety of tongues in the animal kingdom, and find out how different species utilize the appendage to survive.
--
An alligator snapping turtle lures its prey using a blood-engorged tongue that resembles a wriggling worm. And it’s far from the only animal doing tongue trickery. Tongues in the animal kingdom vary widely - from texture and length, to shape and dexterity. So, what's the point of having so many different kinds of tongues? Cella Wright explores how different species use the appendage to survive.

One of the rare cases where I'd prefer real footage over these beautiful animations.
“Tongue” and “trickery” are the last two words I’d ever think would be put together but here we are
"I can think of 3 good reasons." -Squidward Tentacles
Agreed.
Same
I suddenly imagined a chameleon’s tongue breaking the speed of sound, and it gave me a chuckle.
There are many documentaries.
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Turn to him and repent from your sins today!
@@idehenebenezerwhat
The tongue that wraps around the skull: Talk about storage efficiency! Fascinating
Where are you going after you die?
What happens next? Have you ever thought about that?
Repent today and give your life to Jesus Christ to obtain eternal salvation. Tomorrow may be too late my brethen😢.
Hebrews 9:27 says "And as it is appointed unto man once to die, but after that the judgement
Not only is it efficient for storage, the tongue protects the skull from damage as the woodpecker drills into trees! I thought it was super cool when I first found out
it actually protects the woodpecker from brain damage for pecking trees
@@idehenebenezer nowhere. Staying in my grave, thanks.
“What that tongue do?”
“Lure and catch prey.”
*"911 ? Yes there's a scary predator in my lawn...No this isn't a joke!"*
*"Yes I know I saw him. This time am telling the truth!!*
That's what she said
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Turn to him and repent from your sins today!
@idehenebenezer 88% of the world fail themselves much less their religion. Only 12% r true. I am very, very sure u r not.
"Tongues are getting all kinds of busy"
You got that right
Happy snake wife, happy snake life 🐍❤️

Happy chamelion wife, happy chamelion life. Djdhdy
Well if you haven’t got hands to hold a fork with just have your tongue be a fork instead.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Such tongue in cheek humor 😅😂
It's weird how in cartoons frogs always catch flies with their long tongue like the chameleon, but in reality they don't do that.
they do i observed clearly
Jesus is the only way to salvation and to the father.
Please repent today and turn away from your sins yo escape judgement 🙏🙏 There is no other way to get to the father but through him.@@flabiusmsangma

Your content is so refreshing and well thought out. Kudos!
Awesome as always thanks always appreciate the wide variety of topics and information! Always enjoy learning something new!
Tongue's breakdown of its different types is amusing
So cool gemacht, ich freue mich schon auf die Fortsetzung!!!👌🏾👌🏾
3:30 Bellflower: I'm picky about who pollinates me.
Evolution: How picky?
Bellflower: THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS picky!
The talking tongue is too disturbing to take seriously.
evolution is awesome to have so much variety
Greatest channel in the universe
Only at 2:12 I realised that the tongue is speaking as the narrator. 🥲
Amazing. And I have never seen or even heard of a bat that feeds off plant nectar
I was NOT expecting there to be constant tongue noises throughout the whole thing
I couldn’t stand it 😳 severe cringing for me
Does this count as ASMR?
very cool, I send these to my students but the genetalia add at the end can cause a problem.
Imagine a chameleon's tongue can reach the moon so we don't need to use rockets again
Ted Ed is really good
I guess you could say the narrator was speaking in tongues with this one!
Nature needs our help to resist pressure from human development. Habitats are shrinking and need our protection.
Chameleons tongues can shoot out at lightning speed to catch insects, accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just a hundredth of a second!
This tongue is not just fast, it's also extremely accurate. The chameleon’s tongue is tipped with a suction cup-like structure that helps it grab onto its prey.
I love your educational videos, specially the science and riddles but I have a piece of criticism.
I believe you guys should use actual real life images and videos of animals you're referring to. It's just as important to watch and see those things in action as it is to learn about them. It's the only reason which discourages me to watch your biology videos and rather go for other channels who show actual pictures and videos.
I'm sorry if that comes off as bad criticism, I really do love TedED and want to see it do it's absolute best at spreading knowledge and ideas! Your art and animations are gorgeous and they work for pretty much everything else but for biology where seeing the real thing is such an important aspect, I think you guys miss out.
Thankyou if you read that and consider my criticism, I appreciate it, either way, I'll watch lol :D
1:43 Ibuse 😊
"Dam girl, what that tongue do?"
I suspect the title of the video will change very soon, given that its focus is on many different tongues across a variety of species, not specifically about snake tongues.
So, I have a theory, I call this ENCD theory, meaning Enhancement of Neural Connectivity Dream Theory.According to this, dreams occur as a part of synaptic homeostasis, where the brain regulates and optimizes neural connections formed during wakefulness and previous memories. This process helps maintain neural balance and support cognitive According to this theory dream also help to trigger neurogenesis and neuroplasticity.Formation of dreams is also because of already existing memory. Dreams during nonREM sleep helps us to strengthen parts of hippocampus which are not actually used by the person.During light sleep dreams thalamus is supposed to be highly active. The process of neurogenesis and neuroplasticity that takes place during sleep tends strengthen problem solving, memory consoldation and emotional state of person with the wakefulness state of a person, when he is wake.
.
The talking tongue narrator is a real callback to some of the oldest Ted Ed animation videos
Wish we’d seen some information about Human tongues in comparison
I never knew tongues could go back so far, Nor into the back of a creatures head! Thanks ED Ted
So snakes don't really eat dust? Shocking, I'm at a loss for words... one might even say the cat got my tongue 😝
Amazing info, but I'm not sure about the talking walking tongue 😂

The wet sounds are. Unpleasant.
Hey Ted -ed sugestion make a video about the Los Angeles ritos of 1992.
Toaster struddle on the thumbnail.
Ted ed getting freaky 💀
Admirable 🧡
Does the talking animated tongue… have a tongue in its mouth? Does that tongue in turn have a tiny mouth with a tinier tongue with a microscopic mouth and a microscopic tongue in it and so on down to the quantum tongue level?
Noice
Tongue have many use
this is tongue-tally amazing!
Nice video
👍
How else can they taste two different different flavors of ice cream at the same time?
I’m surprised my tongue is not mentioned 😉
ok now, i know someone witted will come and comment something which'll get thousands of likes
Happy snake wife, happy snake life 🐍❤️
Unfortunately to you with your guess, it is the worst kind of comment getting that first. Cultists that praises god with money on their fishing hooks.
To everyone in this chat, Jesus is calling you today. Come to him, repent from your sins, bear his cross and live the victorious life
I love thaht its explained by a tongue 😂
I should call her
Personally, I use Unimantic and get a great percentage per month, I don’t know why you don’t do this.
If you're watching this video you probably have good taste.👀
Very fine. 👍🏻
Very interesting
When you make a video about taste buds and aftertaste?
Also anteater mentioned
2:50 bro is freaky 🗣️
Guys, google what Unimantic is, and don’t worry about exchange rate volatility anymore.
I did not expect this video but okay
so like, snake having forked tongue is similar to having two ears?
With what some hawk tuahs do with their tongues. One can only imagine the human tongue evolution to come 😃
3:06 / 5:16
God in His wisdom designed the tongue of every animal with purpose. All His works are excellent!
Tongue are getting busy lol
Why did the preview pic change?
Would have preferred the video without those sound effects, thanks...
I've heard of speaking in tongues but never of tongue speaking 😂
Now I think my tongue is really dull.
Fascinating! 🐍👅
If snakes could talk they would talk with a lisp.
The tongue has a tongue
So cool
Well that was all slightly unsettling...
*Insert Shakira tongue flick at Super Bowl 54 half-time show here*
Am I the only one wondering how the narrator tongue can talk and how it got there in the first place?
Cool
Who started feeling the presence of his or her tongue while watching this ? 😂
Why does it have to sound so sensual. I'm not safe anywhere
A video about tongue ended with a suggestion to watch a video about genitalia. This is just a coincidence right...... RIGHT?? 🗿
Genial demais
How strange would it be if humans had chameleon tongues?
Happy snake wife, happy snake life 🐍❤️
human tongue contributed in many languages to name these other animals
Is that a tongue on a tongue?
2:50 LMAOOOO
What an absolutely torturous listening experience 😂 🤢
I don't know this channel is like zackdfilms or zackdfilms Is like this 😅
Crazy timing cuz i just got a snake out of my house like an hour ago lol
this was not a good episode to listen to with headphones haha, all the tongue noises get a little uncomfortable
Huh.
👅
Pretty Tingly I would say.
Snakes and their legless slithering relatives have forked tongues because otherwise the Serpent in the Garden Of Eden wouldn't have been able to tell Eve "Go ahead. It's delicious. And nothing bad will happen. I guarantee it". If I'm wrong, just post a Reply about a time when a snake told you something that turned out to be true, or spoke advice that turned out to be good.
freaky ahh video
Mista tung twista will tell ya
This feels like a JoJo reference!
It's very attractive
