My rent got raised from 800 to 3000 when I was in Oregon, i had to file for rent assistance there and they had like 150mil fund that would cover what I couldn’t, any back rent accrued while waiting to get approved and a few in advanced while I searched for some where I could afford, and when waiting for approval it was against the rules for the place I was living to harass me at all of rent, when the money came in they didn’t apply any of the money to future months rent, then kicked me out and I ended up homeless, and when I called my landlord to confront them they laughed at me, asked me how the weather was outside and then told me they were going to go home and sleep in their nice comfy bed, I hope america burns

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I had one unfair land lord before 2020, but it's not as bad as this. I heard other horror stories from tenants damaging the property. The rent problem is the same in the UK too. I was looking at flats just before the pandemic and they were around £450 a month. Now those same flats are around £770-£800 a month. Bastards!

Actually a kid I work with is homeless. Came to our valley from San Bernardino because his apartments were sold and everyone was kicked out for renovations. So sad. Him, his 3 siblings and parents are living hotel to hotel right now, washing clothes at work and using his discounts to help pay for food for his whole family

I had a good landlord who looked out for us and didn't touch the rent price, then he sold the place and we got a new landlord who miraculously did the same thing along with updating a lot of stuff in the home. We've been extremely lucky and all I have to say is FUCK the monsters that raised prices during the pandemic, they deserve every bad thing that ever happens to them and more.
Honestly the best advice I was ever given when trying to compliment something is to pick something they chose. Compliment their earrings, their tie, their shoes, their new haircut. Not things that they can't choose, like their size, shape, or various body features. (I mean, plastic surgery exists.... but I think you know where I'm going with this)

My landlord is selling our house & we got served a 90 day notice last week. I've been searching for another rental over a huge area & coming up empty. Everything is so expensive. I found one that was listed as $1900 a month, with a move in date of May 1st. But the description of the listing said the rent is going up to $2800 on May 1st 🫠 I reported the listing. So fucked up.
What annoys me about the movie industry discussion is that it genuinely feels like there is a blame being placed on consumers rather than the creators. I'm so burnt out on marvel and star was. Give me something fun, interesting, or unique and I'll go. Give me the same formula over and over.. and I'll pass. Movies aren't cheap. It's got to be something worth seeing. Tired of regurgitated IPs.
that's basically why i quit on some movie IPs and studios. it's just absolutely tiring and isn't very engaging, and i wonder if it partially has to do with the looming writer's strike concerning streaming.

I watch over 60 movies a year and only 4-6 of them are blockbusters. They're in the theaters. Actually go watch them. Also, no one holds a gun to your head to watch certain things. If you're not interested in a movie/show/whatever, don't watch it. Simple as that.

In regards to movie theaters, I think it's important for them to keep bringing back older movies. The LotR: Return of the King re-showing the week is sold out at like 3 movie theaters near me. Pretty cool, and I think it's good for audiences too. People DO want to go to theaters again, that much is for sure.
i love regal's ghibli event that they do, where they have showings of ghibli movies throughout the year in both english and original japanese dub with captions. i'm going to try and see every movie they show this year! so far they've already done my neighbor totoro and spirited away
With the Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez story, it just reminds me how many times we have had to reteach this lesson to the internet, especially Twitter, after Chadwick Boseman.
Two people who spent years building their brand on sexualising themselves to boost their fame and revenue.
The problem with that is that people like Ariana expect millions of people to change to make her comfortable, which will never happen. It’s an absurdly disconnected, selfish request. People in the public eye will always be the subject of criticism, praise, envy, etc. The problem here is very, VERY obviously her, because if her job is too stressful for her, she should choose another career. Or stay off social media. But those millions keep them stupid & expecting others to change on their behalf. It’s like something a child would come up with.

When it comes to real estate issue, as someone who lives in Conway NH, I get that 100%. There’s a home that is very obviously run down, that pre-pandemic would’ve gone (and still should go) for $80,000-$100,000 on the market for $300,000. Our lack of affordable housing is causing so many other issues like labor shortages, it’s just a mess

People treating homes and such like investment tokens is exactly why the economy is in shambles. Rent and mortgage rates go up, then what else are people gonna do? How are people supposed to afford kids to keep the population stable if they're too busy not winding up homeless or starving? And then employers complain that people are requesting ridiculous wages, yet they do nothing to lobby against the use of a basic human right as part of a forex portfolio. The cost of living is through the roof, and the vast majority of that is because of houses and apartments being traded like stocks. You can't trade water in forex, so you shouldn't be able to trade housing in forex. Everyone needs water, everyone needs food, everyone needs shelter. Let those real estate investors reap their losses; they deserve it.

I agree with what Ariana said at the start of her tiktok. I constantly get comments about my body with how thin I am and I never know how to feel about it. I’m put into a weird limbo where ppl wished they could look like me, while I wished I didn’t. I even had a therapist tell me that his first thought when he saw me was “damn, is he sick?”. Thankfully I only saw him for 2 sessions before he quit but like… why the fuck say that to your client??
My therapist now has greatly helped me in improving my relationship with my body and my perception of it. Even giving me my voice in telling people to not make comments about my body good or bad. They don’t know how I’ve struggled with it, and if they truly care about me then they’ll respect my boundary.
People making comments about another persons body are not just on the internet. I can't tell you how many complete strangers thought it was ok to come up to me and talk about how thin I was and how they 'hated me' for it. Literal strangers in public.
Someone once complimented me for glowing and seeming like I lost weight and how great that was... I was sick. I was flushed, sweating, and I lost weight because I wasn't eating... :/ I NEVER compliment bodies, just clothes and shoes.

As a property manager, I manage about 50 properties for various individuals (no major companies),I was pretty vocal to our owners about not raising rents and running people out. Thankfully they all agreed and I believe the max we raised was $50. I try extremely hard not to raise rents yearly, but unfortunately still have to keep up with property taxes and so on. It's really not hard to be a shitty landlord/property manager.

While I agree with Ariana for the most part, it's kinda damaging to say that being on anti depressants was part of her "unhealthy body". Being on anti depressants can effect your metabolism, your energy, your libido, and as she said you definitely shouldn't be drinking on them, but it's by no means part of an unhealthy body. It can be misused like any drug but some of us need it and it's dangerous to imply that using such drugs are inherently unhealthy
You made that connection, not her. Connecting dots in your own head does not make someone else's statement "damaging", but going out of your way to try and find things to be angry about is *actually* "damaging".

@@fudgepacker2858 That's a very ignorant point of view. I have been officially diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxieties Disorder. Like not I think I have that, I was diagnosed, by doctors, at a hospital. My brain, in part due to early childhood trauma, literally does not make the correct chemicals as it should. The meds make up for that by stimulating the production of what's missing. Part of it is genetic as well, my mother is extremely bipolar, something that can be passed down. I may be able to train my my brain to produce the right stuff over time and ween myself off of the meds, or I might need them for the rest of my life. Both are okay. I get really upset with people that equate clinical depression with just getting sad sometimes. That's not what it is. It's omnipresent.

You have the option now to further invest in your career and switch to something more suitable, I implore you to do what you love.

My house is less than 2 miles from the industrial building that caught fire in Indiana, & the cloud of toxic chemicals covered half the sky above my house yesterday. It's died down some this morning, but we're all still under shelter-in-place orders due to all the air-born chemicals & micro-plastics.

@@EroticInferno that’s unfortunate but I also have had PT clients lose a ton of weight and enjoyed the encouraging words. Had a professor I trained and lost over 150lbs. Not only would students compliment him in the gym but they told me and him it motivates them. He told me his colleagues were slightly worried he may be sick because of the progress he made in a short time and it made him even prouder.

I'm glad Ariana talked about people always commenting on bodies, I saw people doing that in media and among my friends growing up and I'm convinced that was what pushed me to have an ED in high school (and honestly the sudden "too thin" comments made it 100x worse and harder to examine my own actions because of feeling defensive). I recently had my weight addressed by a old regular (I work as a bartender, this is over 3 months for context) mention how I had lost weight and was noticeable. It made me realize that I had lost 10lbs in a year, but made it very clear that I had lost more in the last 3 months than I had in a whole year. As someone who has dealt with EDs it sent me into a spiral and still has me checking and double checking my weight, the only reason I had been able to make this note is because i have worked to note and understand my gains and loss without weighing myself which I personally know is a trigger.
I agree that commenting on someone's weight shouldn't be regular practice I do think that if someone is hitting a dangerous state, and that it is done with best intentions, I cannot comment on those who are commentating but I can state that it is okay to comment ACTUAL concern when someone is reaching an ACTUAL unhealthy status, This does pertain more to being underweight rather than overweight, cause unfortunately being underweight is much more prevalent than healthy levels of being overweight.
Your weight isn't the only metric that matters when it comes to how people may perceive "weight-loss." There's also body fat percentage, clothes, inflammation, water weight, etc. which can noticeably fluctuate daily. I recommend learning more about the effects on the human body of having proper nutrition and fitness so that you can be empowered to get/keep yours in a healthy state :)

My crew is half of what it was and we still have over 100 buildings to look after. And now they are breathing down are necks to make sure the properties they used for collateral maintain value. When I lost 40kg, I was starving to death, due to gastroparesis. I desperately wanted to eat, but couldn't. Yet I got so many comments saying how great I looked, how "healthy". Yet it was completely because we think thin = healthy. And yes, I needed to lose the weight, but not like that. I've since put it all back on and more (love that for me, thanks 2 years of high dose steroids and weight gaining meds I didn't know the side effects of!) and I can promise you no one is sayin how healthy and great I am today, despite the fact that I'm now pain free for the first time since I was a teenager. It sucks to know that if I see anyone I haven't seen since the pandemic, all they're gonna think is "wow, she got fat!!" without knowing the rollercoaster of health I've been on, and how I *felt* just as fat then, when I was skinny, as I do now. As someone who is a day older than Ariana, I appreciate she is standing up for herself.
