    I really appreciate you for making this video. It answered a lot of questions I had including a specific question about the Exo-Terra 36x18x18. Ive been eyeing that specific enclosure but wasn't sure which lizards would fit. You hit a major point on how a lot of websites and videos say 20 long which can confuse many people. Great video!! Thanks!

    Ha, my fire skink only comes "out" at night to drink water, or if I throw in crickets. Otherwise I have to dangle a worm in front of a hide to get her where I can pick her up and hold her. I work with mine a lot so she is super docile.

    Hello Jessica, I'm a little late to the party, but I've got a few questions I'd wanted to ask since seeing this video.
    I'm planning on adding a fire skink to my household, and I'm in the process of getting all my stuff straight on building the enclosure.
    First of all, really informative vid, very useful.
    But I want to know, do you mix your substrate with water in a separate container to get the right humidity, prior to adding it to the enclosure?
    I only saw the one UVB light, is that the only light installed on the enclosure, or would you recommend a separate heating lamp?
    You placed the heat mat underneath the enclosure, but I'm afraid the skink might dig down to get cool, only for the temp to get warmer as it crawls down. Would you place the heatmat to the side of the enclosure, or would that diminish the effect of the mat?
    Once again, great vid. Hope you, Roku and the other critters are doing well.

      @blooblooberry2759 Před 2 lety

      I’m late now and you probably already figured this out but I have lizards and in my opinion don’t get the heat Matt maybe just get a heat lamp with a brick that’ll heat up, so it can dig under and go to the other side and get cool

    Fire Skinks are called "Fire" Skinks because they are hot and they start fires. They should be kept in a 75 gallon fish aquarium and fed a hot dog once a week. Please make sure to add at least 5,000 cleaning snails as they will pick up after him when he refuses to clean his room. That's basically all you need.

      Yes I think so especially if you offer plenty of enrichment :) Roku definitely climbs! Roku also loves to burrow.

    My Halmahera Blue tongue Skink, He is now 3 months old, I got him in May, he was Born a day after my birthday! I got him from a website called Undergroundreptiles, he was $300.00! 😬 All together, it was $600.00 including hides, substrate, lighting. And yes, they are not a cheap animal, the blue tongue skink can be up to, two feet long, they have really cute hotdog bodies with with tiny legs, and a longggg tail. Every morning I turn Feran’s light on, and my leopard geckos lights’ on. My Halmahera blue tongue skink is diurnal like us, which means they only need a light/heat lamp, I have a hide/rock under his lamp so he can bask, yes they do bask like she said, but they don’t tan!!😂 As a baby your skink will be very afraid of you, and you will love seeing your skink grow and be more happy around people, I suggest getting a skink, they are such dosile and sweet creatures to own and watch grow, thank you for providing me with this information. Im watching the diet video after😬😂. ~Meah

    I have to ask, got a fire skink about a week and a half ago, he is not coming out at all not eating did you experience this at all? Starting to get worried

    • @JessicasAnimalFriends
      @JessicasAnimalFriends  Před 5 lety +1

      fire skinks are very shy. it would not surprise me if you don't see yours much. how are you offering food? I offer mine in a bowl so my skink can come out to eat when he feels safe. it's also fairly common for reptiles to go off food when they are in a new environment

    • @asleep50t
      @asleep50t Před 5 lety

      I leave him food in a bowl. Since he hasn't ate in a week and a half I'm leaving him 3 super worms, 3 wax worms in the bowl and 2 crickets in the cage cause he hasn't ate with me so I can cover the bases. I took him out today and put him in a plastic container with food in it to try that. He bit at one but no go(pet store told me to try that)

    • @asleep50t
      @asleep50t Před 5 lety

      I'm only worried cause he is not exploring the cage and coming out of his hole(no tunnels, no signs of crawling in the substrate) he just sits there

      luis arias 20 gallon long, with 3 inches of substrate in the low side 4 to 5 on the high side, a 75w day bulb with a 5w uvb both on the low side with the heat pad. He has 3 hides one on top of the pad a cork hollow and a half log with one bush decoration and 2 of the vines that have the glass suckers, his basking is about 95 with the cool side around 83 and at night I have an infrared night bulb that does not let out light that keeps his tank 84 at night. I keep the moisture pretty moist and never let the top drop below 40%

      They like to burrow so it probably isn’t a good idea because they would just uproot the plants

    Do you like a mix of eco Earth and cypress mulch would work.

    • @JessicasAnimalFriends
      @JessicasAnimalFriends  Před 6 lety

      possibly, if the Cyprus mulch was smaller chunks. would be hard to make tunnels that way though.
