I mean I don't think I fired more than 100 times the entire campaign and Llywelyn's to-hit modifier was frankly disgusting. The hard part wasn't hitting the enemy, the hard part was the really long shots where I had to guess which freakin' square they were going to be on the next turn. Priority went to enemies that couldn't move or were stuck in melee with allies, god bless my party for being tanky and full of abilities that discouraged movement.

Reminds me of a story I heard once. DM gave the Ranger a magic quiver. It would covert all arrows placed into it into a single arrow. If you fired that arrow, it would split into all the arrows inflight. The Ranger never used his bow. He always used his swords. But after every battle he collected any arrows he could find and in every town he bought all the arrows they had. Fast forward to the end of the campaign. They're called to help fight this huge army. Hundreds of thousands. The battle is going to start the next day. Everyone spends time prepping. The Ranger climbs a hill overlooking the soon to be battlefield. Then he pulls out a piece of paper from his notes and hands it to the GM. Its a list of every arrow he's collected. The Ranger is going to used his bow. The GM is silent for a moment, the he puts his notes away. He describes the archer nocking the arrow and letting it fly. The arrow splits. 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, soon too many to count. The sky darkens as the rain of arrows decimates the enemy army.

I’m on my first campaign and I’ve somewhat avoided my pc’s archery skills and end up settling melee combat because rules on ranged weapons confuse me (also, my dm keeps giving me melee weapons that do more damage and has made it hard for me with good range). The only times I’ve used a bow is when the villain we are fighting can fly or if I have no other way of damaging our opponents.

@@felixlavulpe3506 as a fellow marksman, i have to sympathize with you on ranged weapons in general.
Even with firearms with the different calibers and charges. It must be similar with longbows and archery because range depends on similar factors (arrow weight, draw weight, the weight of the head, and the draw length).
Admittedly, i am a bit more well versed in firearms (murica), but the skills you displayed on the range and in character are amazing. Especially with that last shot, good lord that must've needed a LOT of lead.
It takes a good deal of skill to take out a target moving at 30+ mph at less than 20 yards with a shotgun consistently (a score of 12/25 is average).... to take out a target moving at double that speed and with a single arrow is absolutely amazing.

@@MeeraTheMooneyed well, it is focus is as a game, but even games that use instruments of war (games like war thunder, world of tanks, and world of warships) their baseline is in historical realism, but they then use gameplay to help balance it for pvp. In pve (like DND settings), the focus should have gameplay mechanics based on realism. That would help everyone most

Supposedly, a group of human explorers were trapped in one iteration the plane of Mechanus, and ran out of supplies. The first god to ensure their prayers was a primordial named “Mekhane”, who gifted them with “arcane” technology. After a confrontation with another god in which Mekhane dies, these “Mekhanites” start spreading throughout the multiverse looking for the pieces to rebuild him. My future campaign deals with a Mekhanite civil war, which bleeds over into the Forgotten Realms, but Theta 6 is just a soldier sent by his superiors to aid the party (and maybe find a piece of the broken god while he’s at it).

It’s fun, being that one guy who snipes all the enemies before your teammates even draw their weapons. At least, it was until the (literal) devils started using ambush tactics. “Clever Girl”... Honestly, I’m sure my character amounting to what’s basically a terminator helped the party a lot, but I feel like they’re more terrified of ME than they are of the actual demons. The last line about being put in dungeons to punish that kind of character made me twitch a little. A GM should never punish a power build, but rather challenge it! (Unless the player is being a total jack-hole, in which case, have at it.) Make the enemy adapt. The DM can power build too, and the only way a power build can break the game is if the DM assumes that the player's character is the only person who could ever pull off what they're doing. The most common solution for me when challenging a power player is to have a new antagonist pop up, saying "You thought you were the only one?" All you have to do is think of something that would make the power build's abilities less of an advantage and throw that at them; not enough to screw them over completely but just enough to give them a little tension. Imagine how interesting a snipe battle between two master arches would be!
Then again, hot damn if this didn't make for an awesome story! This is why I hesitate to come down on a power player and usually wait until they start ruining the fun for other players before taking action. Runes had that motive for his character to just go home and retire, so there was no real threat of the character going on to bulldoze the whole campaign or wreck the campaign world. He was under the narrative limitation of just wanting to get the job done and go home. This ultimately lead to that final moment where he fired the arrow and packed up to go home while it was still in flight. That was bad ass!

I have an archer Character I've been using in my friend's D20 future campaign. Though I don't have the godly accuracy of this one, but I don't need it when I'm the one who can control the flow of the battle. My character is a Canine Moreau set in the year 4000 or close to it. My friend's campaign has nearly anything you want lazer rifles, star ships, and more form D20 future. Well I asked for a compound bow, and he was like really you can have anything else, but you want a bow. After a few minutes he was like give me a good reason and I'll let you have it. Well fast forward a bit and I have a compound bow while many, many arrows types. My current count of arrows, at the time of this post, 21 different arrows. My most used arrows at the moment is the Smoke arrows they work just like smoke grenade, EMP arrow works the same as EMP grenade, costume arrow "Jammer Arrow" used to block radio communications locally. My character named Ahri Kozlov is a Transporter, but has been modified to First Respond-er, because I'm playing the fish out of water. She is a caring individual that has had to deal with a rough childhood trying to help and save lives gets caught up in a mercenary operation because she has one of the fastest star ships. Up till recently I've been playing with low range because we classified the arrow into two types; Type 1 is the standard arrow which has normal range and Type 2 that has half the range. the Smoke, EMP, and Jammer arrows are classified as Type 2. So my range is limited, but I don't fight to hit people . My arrows are setup in a way that I can fight using the environment to my advantage. Allies got pinned Ahri shots a Smoke arrow at allies feet providing instant cover. Enemies have heavy armored powered equipment Ahri shots the ground nearest with EMP arrow disabling them till they are powered back up. Large group of enemy spotted Ahri shots off a Jammer arrow cutting off radio communications. We have currently only done one mission but with that one mission Ahri has completely controlled and devastated the enemy by not letting them get the upper hand. She is the one who is there for tactical support. Since her arrows all have secondary uses they each have some penalty to damage so she hasn't been able to kill intently.

There is at least one ability that eliminates all range penalties for the Cragtop archer, but the legitimate tradeoff is that for this benefit, the archer can only make a single attack a round. So when the player gets the DM to allow them to.combine all the damage for the multiple attacks they would normally get in a round into a single attack, they are getting around the legitimate limitation while making it seem like they're are giving something up in return when in fact they're gaining something. Hence, they bamboozled the DM by knowing what the rules and mechanics limited their abilities to and successful argued in a way that seemed like they were giving something up to gain something of equal or lesser value when what they really did was break the limitation the game set to balance the class. I would like to see all the feats, skills, equipment and whatnot that went into the character to see what the character should have been capable of as opposed to how this characters was improved. I would be interested in the bows stats as well to see what was done. All in all, it is not a legitimate character, build, or accomplishment as there was some critical rule and game mechanic violations that had to occur to make the story happen.
Are there any feats that make it so an archer never misses? I could understand a feat that might allow a reroll with some limitations, but this story seems to defy what was allowed under the madness of the 3.5 rules which speaks to power gaming, something one shouldn't be proud of achieving if they had to further break a game that already allowed for it. Yey! Runesmith! Love you man, and I'm happy you are finding success after "leaving" XP to Level 3". I know you guys are still great friends, but you have truly created a niche for yourself. I'm so happy to see you on other channels.

Cragtop Archer is one of the funnest characters I ever played. Mine was a half-giant with a with a giant 12 foot tall bow and javelins of returning that I shot through it as arrows. From the tower in the center of the city ruled by one of the other players I could easily hit anything out to the horizon in any direction. Basically just Hawkeye Gough from Dark Souls, believe it or not before DS came out though. Except my guy was a loud obnoxious mercenary instead of a quiet giant.

This reminds me of a human battle master fighter archer I played in 5e. She told a fire giant that was about 3 rounds out "you stay there and we will go on our way and I won't have to fill you with arrows." The giant never made it to us, not that he didn't try. She she was good at math and better at archery and she knew there wasn't a chance in hell that giant was going to be anything more than target practice, she would have proffered he let her save the arrows.

Yes, this is amazing, and then equip the bow that every 5 feet the arrows double, at only 120 feet it can do an AVERAGE of 2000 damage by just the arrows

We had a literal Sniper in my current campaign. He was able to make shots from about 2 miles out, and had spent alot of his hard earned time and gold to get that Sniper. He was a pretty good mercenary, not too renowned but he proved to be quite the hero in this part of the story. Unfortunately, he died to the final battle of that part of the story, and his body and soul couldn't be recovered.

I loved my archer. She was a ranger/magic crafter who made a bow of multiplicity. Basically a bow that tirns one arrow into 5. It was fun.
