    Salamat ulit sa pag-interview Jared!
Reading your comments, I've actually learned quite a bit from all of you. I guess that 'manalig' technically has a generally different definition than what I learned while living in the Philippines, and the word that more closely translates would be something like 'asahan'. My resources for translation and learning were pretty limited in 2019 so I appreciate the correction from all of you in the comments. I can only guess that there are a few other words too that I'm mistranslating, so I hope over time I'll get those corrected too 👍

Hey Jarod! I'm impressed with your Filipino/Tagalog guys. Gusto kong sabihin na ang pinaka malapit na kahulugan ng "manalig" ay to have faith in God. Ang word na "manalig" kasi ay specific at direct na may kaugnayan o koneksyon sa relihiyon o Panginoon, habang ang salitang "rely" naman ay general term na kung saan ay maraming pwedeng kahulugan pero iisa lang pinupunto, at 'yon ay; umasa, magtiwala, sumandal sa anumang bagay.
Halimbawa: When you say, "manalig ka" it means "fave faith in God". Hindi mo na kailangan sabihin na "manalig ka sa Diyos" sapat ng sabihin mo lang na "manalig ka" kasi understood na 'yon na ang manalig ay para lamang sa diyos.
Punta tayo sa "rely". Halimbawa. Rely on yourself, ang malapit na kahulugan ay "umasa/sumandal/dumipende ka sa sarili mo.
Ang hirap mag paliwanag sa type lang. Hehe...

    Rely = nag-rely (past) / nag re-rely (present) / mag re-rely (future)
This is the hardest part for foreigners to learn when we start repeating syllables to give a root word different meaning. Hard to learn, even harder to teach, lol.

She is my friend but I was surprised she's a bit angry. I just said Oh.... "I am sorry for that Question " Dahil dito sa Pinas Pag nagtatanong ako ng kaidad ko ay ok lang naman sila dito. Pangkaraniwan is quite deep but we sometimes still use it.
    Example:
" Hindi yan Pangkaraniwan" or you can just say to shorten the sentence, "Hindi yan Karaniwan"
So you can use either Pangkaraniwan or Karaniwan. It's just the same thing which means "USUAL".
So Hindi Pangkaraniwan o Hindi Karaniwan means Unusual or Not Frequently.😊

The good thing in the Philippines is that the language is "heterogeneous"(A marriage of two languages), a mix of tagalog and english. It is continuously evolving, tagalog words that filipinos deemed "too deep" they will express in english. Example:
    Deep: "Maligayang Kaarawan Sayo!"
    Modern: "Happy Birthday Sayo!"

got my stomach going with philippine memories...biggs used to have a tofu/soy sauce salad (it had a local name that escapes me) that was awesome, but that's gone...Max's (all major cities?) sizzling tofu with medium spicy little red peppers (they said it's a native pepper but it looks and tastes exactly like thai peppers) is great...congo grill sizzling tofu has really good sauce...chow king tofu and rice is a good deal, except if you're a normal sized westerner you'll need like 3 or 4 orders of it...pizza hut has gotten better crusts over the years, used to just be like a cracker crust -- but you need to bring your own crushed red pepper because they don't have the packets...
    others
wendys (all major cities?) is a spaghetti joint, jollibee (found in all cities?) is basically a localized mcdonalds with a bee instead of a clown, duncan (all major cities?)has unsweet donuts (about the only thing in the philippines that isn't too sweet), shakeys is about the same, as is carl's jr, subway has a similar menu but minus most of the veggies, seattle's best and starbucks (found in all cities?) are about the same at half the price....
no refills on drinks, but probably better off getting it in a can if your stomach isn't filipino tap water adapted...

    "Manalig" is actually "Have Faith".
    Example:
Manalig sa Dyos. (Have Faith in God).
    Nananalig ako sa Dyos.
(I am having Faith in God).
    May Pananalig ako sa Dyos.
    (I have Faith in God).
