I can't say I ever expected an entire amp and cab sim in the standard Boss enclosure. Props to the engineers at Boss for packing so many features into it too.
there are other manufacturers who've made similar pedals over the last few years. but they're pricey! and i think all can only run one instance of each, amp sim and cab sim, so no delay or chorus in the same devices. Ive messed around with older sims(vst's) using a pc/laptop but not something i was into. But these new pedals simplify things IMO.
I already have the FDR-1 + Combo Drive (Vox) + Power Stack (Marshall). FDR-1 has Reverb and Tremolo and I have gigged right into the PA with just the pedal and a guitar
BOSS IR-2 with FX Loop, could be a game changer for many, as some guitar players only stick with BOSS for their pedals. Time to put some amps into storage.

I can say most of my effects are boss. Just out of durability and quality/reliability, never had one fail in the 37ish yrs Ive been playing. Had some that played in the rain, ran them @ 12v to keep it dry inside. =)
It’s what Boss is known for besides the build quality. The term build like a tank, it goes with 95% of the product.

Yep, same thoughts here. Just make an IR-2B, throw some original models and some Bassman and SVT in there and I'm all over that! 🙏🏻
Great idea, I'm currently running my bass through an Egnater Tweaker 15 guitar head into a 15" Fender bass cab, something like that would be wonderful, especially with the headphone out, I need a way to play quietly at night.
I've stopped lusting after guitar gear the last few years but I cant help but appreciate the design of this. I mean, you couldn't fit any more features into a compact pedal. Well done Boss!

Great sounding. At the end of the day, regular people won't notice if you're using a real expensive boutique tube amp or a sim pedal. It's a great buy.

Just got mine after waiting almost 6 months. Didn't really know what to expect. Read through the guide. Plugged in. All I can say is...WOW! Worth the wait. How the engineers at Boss were able to pack so many cabs and sims into one pedal is borderline miraculous. My only (verrrry minor) negative: the letters on the type amp-cab dial are so tiny as to be almost unreadable. So, I simply memorized them all! Amazing amazing, amazing piece of gear. 10/10.
Compared to my current solution, the Simplifier, this ticks all the boxes for me except balanced outputs, and that’s not the worst thing to be missing. The Simplifier is more tweakable and analog, but this has one of Boss’ MDP amp sims, which is the kind of “maybe we do more than just emulate old amps” thing that we need more of from digital modelers. I’ll be adding this to my arsenal.
This is so great and so much more compact than the IR200 with all the basic functions. I need it 😵💫

Thought this particular pedal was already a great addition at it's price point BUT - being a fellow lefty, including a lefty guitar player in the marketing for this just makes me want to add it to my setup even more.

This looks a lot easier to use than the IR-200, and no menu diving. Way to go BOSS!
Since most players I know still use an amp, it would be great to have a demo of the Boss Ir-2 used as a preamp in the effect loop of a few amps, to see how it behaves in the setting.

This is a perfect add-on for my MS3

There is a CNTL cable that you can run from the MS3 (out) to the IR2 CONTROL (in). An MS3 patch would change the IR2 channel. Don’t know if you can toggle the IR2 channel (A/B) without stepping on another patch. Have to see when the new BOSS box comes in.

Right? I have a HeadRush, an Iridium and two old Vox ToneLabs so I really don't NEED this, but at $199 I'd almost feel stupid not getting one anyway.
I would like to see a real review of this pedal hooked into random amps, (Fender, marshall, mesa), and cabs 1x12-2x12-4x12, etc, and see how the pedal interacts with them, this is just a stylized ad that leaves more questions than answers. With that said it seems like a cool pedal.

Question for BOSS, i read the manual and cant find anything on this...Can i send a stereo connection into the "Return" stereo loop input and just use the IRs side of the unit?
I ordered the pedal. Hope it will arrive soon. Would have been nice though if the Hiwatt 100 DR103 had been included. An amp used by guys like David Gilmour and Pete Townshend. Hope Boss will make an IR available of the Hiwatt. So I can maybe replace it with the amp underneath Hi-gain. Though I understood many like the Hi-gain MDP.

Genius I bought the amp academy for the loop and it crashed 3 patches so I sent it back.
I just feel a high gain amp Brown or above is stupidity without an effects loop and this could actually sell me on getting one.
I have my belle epoch deluxe before my cab sims on mid break up and gain pedals and comps before it..but my reverds and digital delays are after the amp like an effects loop would work.
How many of these were available at launch, like 1000? There's been a waiting list for weeks. Still, I'm looking forward to this nasty nugget!

Can I use it just as a preamp plungging it into an external power amp and a real cabinet or a third party IR loader?
it looks like the 11 AMP's are tied in with an IR. If you can't disable the IR, this wouldn't be the box you're after.
The instruction manual has details on how to run the pedal with both the amp and cab on, just the amp on or just the cab on so I think that means it can do what you're asking for.

I understand that you can load your own IRs. Does this mean you can load your own speaker IRs into an existing amp model, or can you overwrite an entire amp model? I have a Taylor acoustic IR that would be very helpful instead of one of the high gain models.

Wow, this is straight up gonna kill all the other amp sim pedals. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if that ends up being the case, but this thing is boasting way more functionality and options than the others and at a much fairer price.
The IR-2 has incredible versatility, but based on the videos, the Diamond (Vox) sim comes up a little short compared to the UAFX Ruby. But the Ruby is considerably more expensive and just does the one amp. Between the beautiful cleans and the deep bench of drive sounds, though, it's hard to say no to the Boss. Do you want a broad range of good sims, or one that is dead nuts?

This is sick pedal!!!! Can i use phones output for monitoring and the cable output to PA simultaneosly?
If yes, that would be great having phones (like wireless earplugs) on stage for monitoring and pushing the cable into PA. Is this possible with this unit?

This is an amazing pedal but having two channels is not enough. There should have been at least 3 channels ( Clean - Crunch - Lead ). I hope this will be possible with a firmware update 🤞
