He will get better once he gets more comfortable reading defenses. I noticed he hesitates sometimes because he doesn't want to make a mistake throwing it.
maybe. only he really knows
yeah he didn't want to throw another pick on a couple plays he hesitated
Thanks for doing this breakdown. You’ve taught me a ton from other videos but super happy to watch a breakdown as a titans fan
Great video. Really important for Titans' fans to get an unbiased look at what the team is doing and what Malik was seeing/experiencing
Stellar breakdown JT. Thanks for dropping some knowledge on Malik's first start. Lots of opportunities for improvement.
Glad I’m not the only one who had questions about downing’s route concepts. Only issue is these concepts were supposed to be more complex with Tim Kelly being hired as the passing game coordinator, but I haven’t noticed much honestly from the broadcast film through week 8. Hopefully it gets better.
Todd Downing is hot garbage, I don't know why he kept saying "I like my man Todd." Unless he personally knows him, there is no reason to like his play calling ability.
Tim Kelly's pass concepts. JS
@@brianbadillo1303 not true. He may be the passing game coordinator, but there has been basically no difference in the plays being called and the way that they are being called between this year and last year since Tim has been brought in.
Great video and teaches fans a lot about Malik's progression as well as Downing's scheme for the Texans matchup.
Lol Cody hollister at 5:20 lmao 🤣 freaking go on somewhere
To me, obv malik didn’t play very well, but I didn’t see any bad habits or problems that can’t be fixed with time. Even with the pick, you never see him force a ball late after this.
The Fields video helped me appreciate the Bears offense that much more in their matchup with Dallas (and that incredible defense). Videos like this help me stay up to date with all the QBs around the league when life is keeping me busy enough to not see every game on Sunday. Another good one!
In watching this game it didn't seem like they changed anything from Tannehill to Malik. They could have made it even easier by adding some rpo's and more designed qb runs. To me it reads like they thought tannehill would play but he ended up getting sick last minute.
I just don't get why you need to take an athlete as dynamic as Malik and put him under center running play action and having to rely on boot action to get him involved as a runner. That's never who he's been so why make him that now? I still don't understand the fit in a Titans offense that went under center 55% of the time in 2019 and 59% of the time in 2020. Plus Derrick Henry isn't really a Power Read/Counter Read type of back so a "Ravens" like offense doesn't maximize Derrick Henry's skillset.
Incredible break down.
Good stuff
I know you've done so much Jalen Hurts this year, but yesterday he was throwing bombs!
i heard. might have to check out
The Titans don't have many good pass catchers. Henry is their entire offense. QBs need weapons.
Our best from LA is there: Robert Woods, future Mayor of LA.
Eagles say thank u for AJ brown
This is true but if you can’t throw the ball it doesn’t matter. Henry already helps the passing game… it’s not like he has nothing to work with. He’s not an NFL passer… out the league soon
@@mikeyblast10 wow deva. They said the exact same thing about Jalen before he got good pass catchers. Glad people don’t know what the hell they are talking about 🦅🦅🦅🦅
@@mikeyblast10 This is what people said about Josh Allen before he had a breakout year with Diggs. Derrick Henry isn’t a receiving back he has 10 yds after the catch throughout the whole season. Malik does having nothing to work with.
Great analysis and breakdown! Hopefully Malik can make progress with his decision making with more time in practice. Looks like his major work ons are his footwork, pocket presence and timing of throws. It's only his first game so plenty of potential to develop (Unless he has to play vs KC 😅)
Titans should bring you in as Malik's QB coach 🙌
"Longhair". Lol. 💀💀💀
#8 on that naked made an Electric Football play.
Your guy Todd specializes in crummy scheme. He did in Oakland and he does in Tennessee.
they run a couple zone reads a game with tanne, he often keeps one
Titans run lots of zone read with Tannehill, he's very good at it
This game reminded me a lot of rookie Lamar Jackson. Super skidish and not a refined pocket passer yet, but I have faith he’ll get better
Another fields video soon? been loving them and he had another great game
No, because Dak Prescott was literally that much better.
@@ohiostin ok? Dak should be better what’s your point
@@aidanking9514 if Fields was good, he would have scored 50 points.
@@ohiostin 😂😂😂
# 78 is always laying on the ground
always a great breakdown. out of curiosity do you watch the Manning broadcast of MNF?
Not really
Fire vid as usual. Could you do Sam ehlinger’s first career start next?
good idea
Had a feeling this video would contain a lot of criticism of Cody hollister. 5:30 in and that is certainly the case 😂😂. Love Hollister but he just isn’t a starting caliber receiver. Any QB has to have weapons, would’ve been a similar game plan even with Tannehill
Would love to see your thoughts on Ehlinger's first start
Better than Malik's. Imo
jalen hurts vs steelers 4 TD passes career high
Would love a breakdown of Russel Wilson now maybe even a difference between now and a few years ago.
hard pass. thanks for watching though
@@TheQBSchool hahah wait why?! Wouldn't that be pure gold? Come on JT, let's ride lmao
@@nickgold5823 probably worried about russ fanboys.. I've never seen a QB with such a long history of success, have such a quick downturn I think it would be entertaining.
#55 on the Texans Jerry Hughes still making plays left and right at 34 y.o. is my main takeaway from this 😂
"Whenever you don't play good, it's hard to have long hair (#8)"🤣
truth
Redundant but can you evaluate what the hell zach wilson needs to do just to become a better QB?
easy play better lol sry couldnt pass but yea im with you would love a Zach Wilson video
really?
Zach's ego is too big and his footwork is bad. He thinks he can make every play. This is the NFL. It's not the BYU. Learn to live another day. Furthermore, his footwork is all mess up under any sort of pressure. You don't need The QB School to tell you that. It was clear as day on the broadcast.
@@TheQBSchool Zach vid would be awesome I need to know if its time to move on!
Is it fair to say that Todd Downings strength is drawing up plays... And his weakness is calling the right plays in the right situation?
Titans offense went from scoring 30 points per game when Arthur Smith was the OC... Then the last 2 years , when Downing became the OC, Titans barely score 20 ppg. Both times Downing has called plays for a team, both QBs had the worse year of their career. (Derrick Carr & Ryan Tannehill) if I can see how Downing holds this team back, then I'm sure The front office can see it, yet I dont know why they don't find a much better OC
"Can't imagine Todd doing crummy scheme.."
JT let me tell you something
Great breakdown! Can we get a Kenny Pickett breakdown? I feel like a lot of his struggles are schematic. He hasn’t been perfect but I feel like he’s greatly out preformed the box score
He hates KP. Didn't you see his draft video when he was drunk and completely laughed at the Steelers for drafting him? If you didn't, look it up. There's no way he gives KP a fair shake.
@@Boblib1970 Simms also has his issues with Pickett. Pickett is accurate and somewhat athletic, but his lack of arm strength is a serious issue.
Let's get a breakdown of Tannehill's next start, maybe a mashup of Malik v Tannehill on some similar pass plays! If possible. 🤷🏽♂️
Maybe
Could you do an analysis of Sam Ehlinger's first game? Greetings from Brazil
good idea
He'll get there hopefully. He's got the best back in the league, arguably one of the best coaches, if not the best in Vrabel. He'll have some time to sit and learn.
Still a W
TITAN UP
Do sam ehlinger!!!!
do a video breakdown of Tua's near perfect game against the Lions please
i want to
@@TheQBSchool hopefully you'll be able to. Your analysis have always been spot on and fair. and the dolphins fans appreciate you
Thx for your work, even though it was hard to watch again. I was extremely disappointed in Malik's play. Rookie or not he's a QB in the damn NFL. I didn't expect Brady or Rogers, but come on I think there are some high school QB's who could've done better. Anyway, I sure hope he develops into something, but his lack of timing and overall awareness was shocking to me. One other thing that I noticed. He was unable to use his wheels because he did let the plays develop. Thanks again for the breakdown, I don't mean to be too critical of a rookie, but I just had way higher expectations.
From the games I've seen thus far with Willis, yeah I'm just going to say it, dude's just Tebow 2.0 but worse. At least Tebow was able to show competence in getting TDs and even with questionable reads he was able to work with what he had a lousy Broncos team. Willis doesn't give me a lot of deep accuracy hype when it matters, even short throws give me worry.
How coachable are these issues in your opinion?
pretty coachable
@@TheQBSchool thanks for the response man! Great breakdown
Super random, do you think Bo Nix has pro potential? He’s looked like a completely different qb at Oregon
No, he went from playing sec defense to pac 12 lol
@@brandonnoel7786 don’t really see how that is relevant, SEC is not exactly an nfl qb factory
potential for what? Start? be a franchise guy? prob not. make a team? sure. Be in the League for a long time? maybe
@@TheQBSchool just a thought, putting together a really solid senior season. Just wondering if you’ve noticed anything significantly different about his game now
@@TheQBSchool never he’s terrible, I seen it first hand when he was with us at auburn
Tn has ran zone edge reads for a while with Ryan everyone has to run RPO now the rules are to favorable not to .
Mine as well reserve overall opinions for 3 or 4 years then we will know if he can be a 500 or better nfl Qb. He's years away from winning a game on his arm or legs.
He reverted back to side arm flicks over throwing routine Wide open Te. He miss read edges where long hair shifted into being a lead block for the draw that Malik kept. He had several miss communication on run plays. Henry had to get him to change the run a few times but they normally do a lot of pre-snap reads so I wouldn't hold that against him.
That terrible feet work has been discussed all year by vrabel. His pass posture is all over the place.
I stopped reading at, years away from winning games with his feet.
Where did the defense change to play Malik any different than any other rpo?
Ryan run this off and on all the time.
Malik didn't run the 40 for a reason.
Malik isnt that fast he got loose on that edge play in preseason clocked at 19.19 mph. 4.6. 40 range. Quick first step is it.
@@TheQBSchool several Gms didn't want to train him up for (years ) its why he's a 3 Rd pick. 4 decades of watching this It's ok, I wished mcnair had gotten to do that instead of getting sp beat up being an under 500 team for like 3 years. He may have played later into his 30.
Why you doing everyone but Pickett 😂
why you think
@@TheQBSchool tell me
You are tripping right away. 2 minutes he is not wide open there is a safety they in scoring position he is just getting turned around. It's not wide open.
Wao
Willis looks bad. Henry looks good
If I had to make a call off eye test, I say he’s not NFL QB make up.
Todd dowing has horrible scheme
He is nowhere near being ready to be a starter.
NOT a NFL qb
lol
