Actually, Vaan is a great and very interesting character. The fact of him being the protagonist but not the leader makes you to view the game from another point. He's also the union for all characters; if weren't for him, Balthier and Ashe wouldn't even meet.

No problem. Theres not a real reason to be hostile or anything. I just always saw Vaan as maybe a duller Aladin or Luke Skywalker. I find Tidus kind of obnoxious, and your right Vaan isn't annoying, he's just kind of there in the background. He just seems flat to me, not a lot of growth or turmoil. I just think Larsa could work better as a main character. He's young, but also has to deal with his brother, his kingdom and the war that is about to break out.

Something to notice about his quote to Yuna at 2:53... neither of them should know what an Eidolon is since in FFX they were called Aeons and in FFXII they were called Espers.

He basically referenced age in a lot of these. Something I never noticed while playing.

You can kind of tell Vann isn't a very interesting character because the only memorable thing he did in the 80 hours of FFXII is ask how old Fran was. FFXII deserves a better representative. Balthier or Ashe would be great,

actually he has more memorable thing. Before entering Archades, Ashe worried if people will notice her as princess of Dalmasca. But then Vaan says : "That's right! You are our princess yet we didn't recognize you!"

I agree that the viewpoint of not being the center of attention could be interesting. But that alone doesn't make a character great. Also I kind of feel like that has been done before in FFX and maybe FF6.
Without describing Vaan's occupation or appearance I find there is little to be said about the character. Also Balthier's hover vehicle could still have crashed when he got the nethecite in the beginning.I just feel like a more interesting game could have swapped in Reddas and Larsa.

First of all, I want to thank you for answering without insulting, I'm tired of all people going nuts when there's another opinion.
Back to the point, you're right, not being center of attention isn't enough to make him great. But I think it's a great character; not annoying, but kind heart and, if you think on it, kind of unusual (I mean, he's not the typical annoying boy at all, he has his own style).
But likes are different in everyone, thanks again for the respect friend!
