🔵 thanks , great take and insight on the acoustic guitar strings ❕been playing some forty plus years now using high end instruments and I must say I've tried many kinds of string sets and guague mixes ; I will give these strings a try since you genuinely recommend these and that all the boxes have been ticked 🌟❕😁 ps. my current top brand of string preference have been the Elixir 12-53 nano or polyweb , 80/20 bronze or phosphor , it doesn't matter much they all work really well for me and last super long with my light play style
Hi Mike. Had the privilege to attend your technique training in London 2014, Scottish Eddie, the guy recovering from the big C who won a place on your class. Really enjoyed the evening concert and your 1st album still gets a weekly play. Do you have the album on vinyl Mike? Keep on "Shredding with Grace notes". Mike.
Tried them last year (electric strings version) and they corroded in 2 hours of playing. Instead of silver, they suddenly looked 'gold-ish', and the spark was gone. Went back to Elixir strings and didn't look back.
I've been using XT .009 for my electric and .012 for acoustic and never had this issue. Before I discovered XT I tried bunch of Elixirs (nanoweb ones I believe) for my acoustic and in every case after 1-2 months of playing the coating started to fell off the strings where pick hits them. I couldn't understand it, I pick very lightly and have been using 0.60 pick at the time. The sections without coating corroded instantly. It looked absolutely disgusting.
@@GiltleyRage I have the exact opposite experience: elixir nanoweb on my strats, never had an issue. XT looked like you described. Messy and corroded. Maybe it has to do with composition of sweat... ? I also tried the Paradigm strings from Ernie Ball. Same issue for me.
@@colaboytje Never used Elixirs on electric, maybe they hold better because of the lover tension and nickel plating. But acoustic ones we're unbearable.
Thank you for sharing your experience. As a beginner it's not easy to choose the right strings, I just can say I had some differences and I never felt that comfortable playing. With your video, I found some strings I really love now, thank you mike! Greetings from Germany.
Saw your video and the tribute to VH, Ive never been so impressed at what you accomplished. After hearing you I don't think I want to play anymore....wow....
The gauge shown in the video is inverted in order, the first number should be 56,42,32 and so on or either he could write DAGDAD instead of DADGAD, just a piece of info.
In start of 2021 I go from elixir to d'addario Nickel Bronze (you was inspiration) and they are amazig.. what a tone 🤩 I love them. Thank you Mike. Is acoustic tone with XT strings similar then nickel bronze?
Tried them out. Normally play Elixirs. On a Maton. Thought the Elixirs shaded them acoustically but plugged these sound amazing. Also they just feel better on the neck. Cheaper too. Thanks
Not sure how you made a video about guitar strings targeted for a tuning I don’t play in, in a style that I could only imagine playing in interesting... but here we are.
I've also come to the conclusion that these new Daddario strings are the absolute best! I use the light top/medium bottom set and they work perfect for me as I mainly use drop-D tuning 🙂
Mike would be great to see a tutorial/ hear your views on which guitar is best for finger picking and which for strumming with a pick. Which strings as well would suit either style Especially for beginner/ intermediate. So not overly extravagant on price 😧
Wow! Been using Elixirs for over 15 years as my sweaty mitts utterly deaden a set of strings with a few hours of play at home (hyperhidrosis is bloody annoying) and that is after even wiping them following a session. Even uncoated bass strings are dead in a week of just light daily practice at home...Thankfully I am very used to Elixirs so I always have a good enough fallback, but I can't wait to try a set of XTs on my acoustics and basses! After just watching a comparison video between a set of Elixir 80/20 bronze, and D'addario XT 80/20 bronze strings, it seems the XTs have a richer bottom end with more open mids than the Elixirs. Should like they will work well on my OM! Thanks for giving the XTs some attention so that we in the sweaty palm brigade have some options! Been following your stuff since you were doing some Erik Mongrain-esque laptapping on Myspace. Hope you come to play in Norway sometime.
Before Covid, I was playing D'addario strings on my acoustic guitars. They would only last two gigs. I play with a light gauge pick and I'll admit I play hard. It got frustrating to have to restring after every second gig but if I didn't the string would break right in the middle of a song. I contacted D'addario and they sent me some different strings to try but they did the same thing. I finally bought bulk strings from Guitar Center (12 for each string). They worked GREAT! I got a lot more life out of them but I miss the color coded ends on the D'addario's. A friend who used to play with my cousin who played for Roger Miller and Glen Campbell recommended I try John Pearse strings. I did and I love them. Last time I looked Guitar Center had stopped selling their bulk strings.
I've never experimented with strings. I've always just used elixirs probably the nanoweb light the most.... what about that bladeless fan though? I've never actually known anyone who's owned one. That can be your next product review video haha. I bought the boss Oc5 because of you. I was allready thinking about it though. Its great!
Mike, what are your thoughts on 80/20 vs PB? I was talking to Tony McManus and he prefers PB, as do many expressive players it seems. Would love to hear your take on the differences.
You had me at the sweating Englishman. lol so I looked into it Apparently, Sweating sickness, also called English sweat or English sweating sickness, a disease of unknown cause that appeared in England as an epidemic on five occasions-in 1485, 1508, 1517, 1528, and 1551. So is there a recurrence? I truly hope not. Thank you for this update on strings. I can actually use new ones and now I know the facts. : o )
What gauge are you using? I used to use 13-56 but they were breaking too fast. I switched to 12-53 and haven't broken any in a long time. The gauge might be too heavy for the particular Guitar
Mike, love the lesson and the playing, but at czcams.com/video/dw6bomjksC8/video.html you list the letter names of the strings low-to-high, and give the gauges from high-to-low. As a technical editor and guitarist with OCD tendencies, that makes my brain hurt. 😰 ETA: I see I'm not the only chronic editor in the audience....
Have a like just for that intro alone. It was mind blowing.
I rewatched the first four seconds of this video at least 25 times lol
Same lmaooo
Some super-slick editing there. Looks and sounds fantastic.

The moment at 0:59 when the string gauges don't match the correct note/strings is stressing me the fuck out.
Try it out haha
@@mikedawesofficial I feel like a 32 would snap if you took it all the way up to G.
Mike, please tell me they got reversed. I stopped watching and hit the comments to be sure it wasn't just me.
Ugh. Me too.
Same here.

Agreeing on this , i started using these "xt" asa they were available (just to try them out) now im totally hooked on these . 🔥🎸🎵🎶😌🤘🏻✌🏻
just found your channel. Wow! Inspirational (and helpful).
this man switch strings in 5/6 shows, im using the same strings like for 4 months lol
Right? The moment he said 6 shows, I began feeling seriously self-conscious about my own strings.

So are you back to buying two sets of strings in order to get the dadgad gauges right? I can't find a D'Addario XT dadgad gauge set online.
