  • Convinced we’re alone in the universe? Think everyone who believes in UFOs is a lot like Randy Quaid’s character, Russel, in 20th Century Fox’s original Independence Day?
Get ready to entertain doubts after listening to this week’s episode with retired US Navy Commander David “Sex” Fravor (you may recognize him from numerous appearances on the 2008 PBS series, Carrier). You’ll be amazed to hear events that transpired off the coast of Mexico in November 2004-events witnessed not just by Commander Fravor but by three other aviators in his flight and several others on subsequent flights.
Cutting edge technology from the AEGIS radar system aboard the USS Princeton, a nearby Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, to the Super Hornet’s radar and TFLIR systems recorded the day’s events. And yet, doubts and questions linger as to what was actually witnessed. The listener will have to decide for him- or herself.
During the listener question segment of this episode, we discuss mid-90’s flight simulators, math formulae used airborne, air intercepts, and IFF use in training.
Episode artwork is actual FLIR footage of the event as captured on November 14, 2004. Bumper music by Jaime Lopez.

His saving grace was he wasn't alone when he saw what he saw. I saw something in 1999 off pacific coast beach of Costa Rica, Playa Hermosa near Jaco. There was a night surf contest I was watching from my work 2 hotels away. 1000ft-2000ft above the lineup a light emerged. It was stationary, hovering. It grew in size and was directional towards the mountain. Lasted 1 or 2 seconds became like a thrust from a jet engine except it was a white light and didn't come to a point like a jet but the opposite instead, it spread out kinda like a flashlight from the side view with hotter spots top and bottom. Then it shot off towards the ocean covering a half a mile to a mile before the light either turned off or disappeared. The light source shrunk as it left not sure if from distance or speed or throttle. But seemed more like speed or throttle etc because it got small almost at launch.
I can't give a guess at the speed it was incomprehensible. I've helped top fuel and nitro bikes set records in the 1/4 mile and worked at a military airstrip in Hawaii. Nothing on earth moves that fast.... I dare say it was unmanned because nothing could survive the g force from what I saw. Then again something that moves that fast might bend gravity by design? If I had to guess I'd say somewhere between 1,000 mph-lightspeed. Of importance is it made zero sound. It also blew the doors off the sound barrier yet there was no sonic boom either. When the contest ended I asked every hotel guest that returned if they saw or heard something and nobody knew a thing. Blew my mind that it went undetected. My saving grace from going crazy was that our chef was standing next to me when I saw the takeoff.(never saw even an outline of craft just energy or light signature) When the craft launched i heard him gasp for air. We both looked at eachother and each said "DID YOU SEE THAT!"
Fravor is lucky he not only had a WSO confirm but also his wingman and her WSO too. Couldnt imagine the repercussions if I had seen what I saw but alone... I realy appreciate Fravor for eventually coming forward as it helps others like myself find validity. I know his life is much more a hassle now but thanks a million Sir, it really does help us others having some more concrete evidence to make more sense of things.
    Great podcast! Thanks!

This has to be one of my favourite in the podcast series due to my interest in UFOs. I hear that generally pilots (even commercial pilots) are reluctant to talk about seeing UFOs due to the stigma and having their sanity questioned.
There's also a lot of secrecy within the world's militaries regarding the phenomenon, with the exception of countries like Portugal who are very open about it.

You would think so. Unfortunately there are countless amounts of videos of pilots and other seemingly genuine witnesses in relatively credible positions doing exactly that, going crazy over an object that turns out to be nothing but a duck, a bird or a plane on an IR. It sucks I know, but that's the reality my friend.

Some time ago I've read testemonies of a Polish test pilot. Most of the book covers his flying experiences, but there is one story from the mid 80s about his encounter with an UFO. It happened during daylight, over military airport, during Cold War. Many other people have seen this strange object hovering. He jumped into a plane with another guy to intercept it. They came as close as 150 meters and he has seen it as a rotating sphere made of some metalic material. When they were closing in, it was always moving away a bit. He wrote, that he couldn't explain this with all of his aeronautical knowledge.
This story struck me, because he seems like a cool, rational and engineering personality.

About 4 years ago, I saw what the current conventions call a "Foo Fighter". It was a reddish orange ball, about the size of a melon. It flew over my house at very slow speed, about 10mph, forming an arch pattern from its starting point, and ended up over my roof. I couldn't believe what I just saw, so I did something really odd, I jumped to take a look at the roof expecting to see just anything and calm myself, I thought I was getting crazy... But then I jumped and watched this thing hovering over the roof, but it quickly tilted left-right like a quick shake and went straight up at extraordinary speed. All of this was without any sonic boom or sounds or any kind. The silence made me think it was a little balloon flying over the house, until the roof thing. I was never afraid because the movements until then were slow. I feel really lucky to have this little experience to share. That and a zig-zagging football balloon sighting that occurred to me and my whole class of high school back in 1998 over the mountains of El Morado National Park in Santiago, Chile, are my two UFO experiences. I don't think they are aliens BTW. Cheers!

My very personal thinking is that this is much darker. These entities aren't unknown. But I think they enjoy this confusion and this alien title they have nowadays. They even take the time to sometimes drop at someone's house and do actions that imply they need humans for things other than their real purpose of confusing us. So where the Other Videos ? At least 2 More planes have video on this.

Why there was no video at all from Cmdr. Fravor or the other plane cameras? They didn't have the IR cameras but why not camera at all? F18s should have not cockpits cameras? The helmet camera was the only cameras (that Fravor said they were no wearing)? F18s manual says they are built with several cameras as part of the standard equipment.

Of they had turned on their cams, the debate would be over. Oh well, guess we need to consider thousands of military incidents over the decades. Tons of evidence.
