I HAD TO SEE IF THE MOOER 005 BROWN SOUND 3 WAS A CLOSE MODEL OF THE EVH 5150III AMPS…….
THE MOOER 005 IS AMAZING IN ITS OWN RIGHT AND I AM JUST AS IN LOVE WITH THE PEDAL AS I AM WITH MY EVH HEADS,BUT THIS TEST HAD TO BE DONE…..ONE THING FOR SURE IS THE MOOER IS AN AMAZING RECORDING TOOL THAT I PREFER TO PLUGINS AND PRACTICE AMPS.

What a beauty! I’m 57 & technology is so wonderful. When I was a kid you got a used tube amp (1976) . All that an amp did back then was make your guitars louder! No distortion, effects, etc. Don’t forget about getting shocked very easily 🤣
Raymond Barreras haha 🤣 hilarious I’m here to shock 😜
Crushing tones! 🤘
Jerry Vanderecken aye cheers
The Resonance of the amp blows the pedal away
James Rowe yes that is actually correct in a way here the lbx resonance is only on noon I usually like my lbx res on almost full ....obviously because it is a small head this works well, the Mooer can compensate for some of the resonance when the bass is up full in fact I like the Mooer with everything up full and the lbx usually around 5.5 on everything apart from res and gain. There is something about this little pedals tone that makes me love it ....the real EVH has more life in its palm muting than the Mooer when the res is up there are over tones that only tubes can produce
@@NinecoreNeil Get an Empress Para EQ :D
@@ben156 A Sonic Stomp would do the trick as well, the knobs act as the pres/res on a 5150. Obviously if you wanna get super detailed an EQ is a much better option, but for just quick and dirty the Sonic Stomp (WHEN USED CONSERVATIVELY) does it's job real well.
Sounds pretty close!! Is a nice gear for guys that don't have the real amp or they cannot afford!! Like it
LUIS MANUEL MATOS yeah it’s good very good, the Mooer is a one trick one tone pony to be honest where as the EVH is more versatile and responsive....I found the Mooer to be more like a Peavey in that way
I got the gas station 001 with the baby bomb I love it I'm impressed especially when you crank the baby bomb it's really good
kyle elrod that’s my next buy the baby bomb is it loud enough to rehearse ?
You just need the headroom - perhaps a parametric eq would help? Pretty good for £79
EVH blue for the win, however, the mooer is a belting recording tool
I have a Mooer Baby Bomb with the 005. Smallest most incredible sounding stuff there is.
schlagdog yeah I’m probably going to get one for a mini rig
Thank you for the video. Was disappointed that they both sound terrible (at least on the 12 o'clock settings). But the amp had a little more definition. I was going to buy the preamp, but will give it a skip. Maybe the BE OD is the way to go.. I assume with your preferred EQ settings they are much improved. I did try the EVH 100watt head and liked both the cleans and distorted tones, but it was too noisey. I ended with with two ENGL Powerball heads for my stereo setup... but keep coming back to videos like this in search of a great EVH tone :)
VMX12k hi thanks,I’ve owned powerballs and Fireballs ,I’m not keen they are too compressed for the studio and live use they don’t stand up in the mix for my taste ,so maybe the EVH tone isn’t for you I like both of these products I actually use them both so I’m not trying to sell them like some you tubers if that makes sense. It could be my playing or mic /cab ect that doesn’tappeal I guess
Plans for the jet city Amelia head?
Great comparison. The sound is VERY close. I'm guessing with a good EQ pedal, you could get them sounding almost identical.
Yes very close great little pedals mate
unreal tones!!
Jade Torres Quilatan yes probably my favourite pedal ever ,especially seen as it’s £80 very amp like ,my Mooer ge300 should arrive this week
Congarts on your mooer ge 300 dude! much love
Jade Torres Quilatan cheers first demo within next 2 days
100% agree with your conclusion. Hugely impressed by the Mooer. The ultimate test would be to bypass the Poweramp Sim in the Mooer and plug it in the effects return of the LBX, then record with the captor and compare, so they have the exact same power amp and the only difference is the preamp. Nevertheless, VERY impressive product.
Pimise I put the Mooer through the lbx return last week I didn’t compare the two though,I should maybe turn the power amp sim on in wall of sound too to add some resonance
with a bit of tweaking I thing you could get them to sound pretty similar, maybe bob an overdrive in from of the mooer
lee armitage the 005 doesn’t react that well with an oD to be honest
@@NinecoreNeil well that put pay to that idea lol, would like to get my hands on a 5150 lunch box or a 6505mh and compare it to my joyo VIVO
Add a bit of post eq and a boost pedal + gate in front of Mooer i bet it would sound close.
Ben I reckon if I gated the EVH and cranked the Mooer gain it would be much closer ,I usually bang everything up full blast on the Mooer
yeah its missing that nice top air sizzle like all digital thingies do .but still cool and the size/price wtf?!
I bought the baby bomb and it is stupid levels of loud I was shocked so I use a quieter power amp now. Its good to have as a backup though.
CatPoop Official that’s interesting I don’t want to blow my house down as that’s what’s happening with the lbx already
Ninecore Neil It might be fine as long as you keep the volume low. I live in an apartment with thin walls so I have to play with lower volumes than most people.
@@NinecoreNeil I have the Baby Bomb and a Mooer 009 Black Knight (Engl Blackmore) preamp pedal. Because the preamp does not need volume to have full volume for full gain, I leave the volume on the preamp very low and use the volume of the Baby Bomb to keep volume lower when the wife is sleeping and I want to play. Seems to work very well. I will tell you though, that Baby Bomb is no joke when cranked. I am using it with a Vox BC108 (8 inch speaker cab) and I swear you could gig a full band in a small club with that rig.
Shawn Ross sounds awesome buddy thanks for commenting it’s very useful information
obviously the pedal isn't supposed to replace the tube amp for gigging or whatever, but I agree Neil that the pedals shine for recording and are much less of a hassle. They are definitely incredible in their own right being such small digital recreations.
JxPx 9 yeah I mean we have to think about young guys no car,no money ect ....they could go DI and still have a decent metal tone for £80
I actually was surprised at rehearsal when I went straight into the P.A. and it was only a crappy typical rehearsal P.A.
I didn’t try it in a live mix but my other guitarist was like ‘is that coming from that pedal ‘
🤣
@@NinecoreNeil 😂 No kidding man... I have the 008 Mesa Mk 3 that I use direct with the Mooer Radar cab sim for my church band and it sounds phenomenal. Worship music isn't really my thing but it's a paid gig.
And I agree man. They're perfect for the bedroom recorder who has a laptop and an interface. No real need for a real amp in that sense.
I also have the baby bomb 30 and thing is insane.. it'll kick your ass how loud it is. For an extra $100 your suddenly loud enough for band practice.
JxPx 9 yeah I have the Baby Bomb too great set up all fits in the pocket of a gig bag
The Mooer, with the way you set it up, sounds like the EVH Blue channel in that is has the same clean tightness but it has much more Slayer-like mids. You probably could've gotten it to sound closer to the EVH with dialing the mids a little less and more treble for open-ness. That Red channel is scooped when you click the time line back and forth between all 3
The Driver yes the blue has lots more mids than red
I kinda want to buy one these and run it with my precision drive and a Seymour Duncan powerstage as the ultimate portable live rig🤔
justin bora I think it would be great
I do that and it’s honestly amazing
The Red channel on the EVH just rips your freakin’ HEAD OFF! BUT, that Mooer pedal is very close to the Blue channel of the EVH! Not a bad pedal for the money!
stotten70 yes the gain is too high at noon for red ideally it needs to be down near 3.5-4 for double tracking
Sounds very close to the blue channel!!!!!!!🎸
The pedal is awesome considering just a few years ago it would have been imposible to do such a thing for this price. That being said, the evh has more harmonic content and it has that sizzle like frying bacon on top
Maynard Coolidge the Mooer has a great tone and is very enjoyable to play through but like you say the tube sizzle is still hard to replicate ,I wonder if you would tell in the mix though
@@NinecoreNeil I'd say maybe less than 1% of listeners could tell in a mix, and if it rocked, none of them would care. I work in software and it's really not that hard to replicate. But modelers intentionally take the sizzle out. Because most people that buy modelers wouldn't know what it is and dislike those frequencies by nature. Got to know the real thing to appreciate it I guess
Maynard Coolidge I once re recorded the guitars on my ep with bias fx and sent them to the band nobody could tell
Amp is brighter and more dynamic. Instead of setting them the same, have you tried to adjust the Mooer to match the EVH? Seems like simple EQ should get there, no?
CentaurusRelax314 you could put a post eq on in your DAW I’m sure
Ninecore Neil Yes, certainly. I was just trying to think of how I might be able to use it with my Baby Bomb into my 2x12 Greenbacks cabinet, though.
Sounds great on its own, and if I didn’t have the amp to directly a/b......
CentaurusRelax314 I’d be perfectly confident doing a gig with an 005 and baby bomb, the baby bomb is quite bright as well tbh
the mooer sounded great, till I heard the EVH....not bad
It’s so close that it wouldn’t ever be noticeable in a mix. Live, have the sound guy throw a wedge behind you with just your guitar pumping out & it’ll give that real amp feeling.
I used it at rehearsal through an Fx loop return it was really good actually it did lack some mids but my other guitarist had a 5150 through Hesu 412
I was going into a super crush return
Still felt nice though

I think the amp has something "mooer" than the pedal. Maybe the tubes I guess?
Paul Kasper 😂😂😂Mooer amp man 😜
I think mooer is better. Maybe boost with ts mini or maxon will be better?
Rock Pinch yeah adds a touch more sizzle not a massive difference tho
The pedal is fine, but the amp is crazy man
Info Lalulintas haha yeah it is ,great comment
Aren't the knobs on the mooer only at 9 o'clock?!
benjamin woodrow no straight up is noon 😜12 o clock
@@NinecoreNeil sorry I thought they were orientated the way the writing is
benjamin woodrow yeah it’s odd actually because I squeeze it on the top of my board at home with the writing 005 the right way up ,sometimes it confuses me 2 😜
I'm watching this because im want an evh 5150 pedal by mxr, original plan was to trade my friedman be od for that but one person offered me this mooer pedal for the friedman. I'm very surprised by sound of the mooer however still a bit skeptical. Can anyone offer me their 2 cents??
Dean Polis the Mooer is £70 the Friedman is like £200 be careful 👍👌
@@NinecoreNeil Thanks, the price difference is what was pondering through my head to begin with so I'm leaning towards no anyway. Great demo btw
I agree the overall presence of the amp is bigger and more in your face but not everyone can afford an EVH...well anything lol. So for the price it might satisfy that tone itch that we all have from time to time and as long as that itch isnt being giving to you by your girlfriend i say buy it!!! No but seriously amps and the ability to actually have this thing that is in your hand that you can hold and look at is becoming past tense with amp modeling and cabinet simulators getting better by the minute these price friendly micro pedals might be the way us older guys get our rocks off !!Pun intended!🤘🤘
You could've compared the blue channel on the pedal to the blue channel on the amp
André Silva hi that’s what I did 😘the pedal only has blue
@@NinecoreNeil No it doesn't :)
Plot twist, the pedal has two channels.
If you hold the footswitch for a while it turns into a mode that instead of turning the pedal on/off you can change between the blue and red channels.
The great thing about it is that you can have different EQ settings for both channels, it stores the values independently.
André Silva it’s weird you said that because I noticed mine is swapping and changing .....hmmm I need to check this out time for a new video
Right so this explains why sometimes it’s better than others 😂 I’ve just checked and it is very clumsy tbh but it does work and the modes do change.....this makes this pedal even better 🤗
@@NinecoreNeil I think you can also change channels by pressing the button with the light.
Also, if you hold that button you can disable the internal cab emulation, that way you can connect the pedal to the effects return of an amplifier and use a real cab.
The signal path should be:
Guitar Output -> Pedal Input - Pedal Output -> Amp Effects Return
This way you can use the pedal as a Pre-Amp with any guitar amp.
Edit
The footswitch usage is not that difficult to understand.
When you turn the pedal on it works as a regular on/off switch, but if you prefer to use it as a channel selector you can just hold it for a few seconds and there you have it.
Could please check and video that I just reales playing my EVH 100w + Captor + Wall of sounds covering Gojira? I think I got close the Gojira Tone!! I bought the captor after watch your videos!! I would like to hear your comments!!!
LUIS MANUEL MATOS hi I will try and listen tomorrow I have no headphones right now
Ninecore Neil thanks man I appreciate it!!
Number300 is the one
Absolutely nothing beats a good ol fashioned tube amp. The EVH blew it away
PV5150II I think I like them all but the EVH blue probably my favourite then Mooer then EVH red....I wouldn’t usually have the EVH red gain that high so it kind of ruined the comparison a bit
Está muy chido ese pedal, casi suena igual que el ampli, pero tú tocas bien culero jaja
Playing starts at 3:42
in a full mix you cant say which is which and also the main sound comes from the speaker just try it yourself and get some irs then throw in real amp and pedal and switch irs ... make a blind test and you wont be able to hear the difference it is all relative
say for example i throw in the video a picture of a real amp and play the sound of the pedal ...most ppl will write oh thats amazing and better than the pedal and so on so in a nutshell
ppl are biased just from looking at an amp picture
this stuff from that company is ridiculously good and i am nit saying for that price but in general
you can also habe the best equipment in the world with best pre s and mic s you can imagine but if you suck at recording you are basically f..ked
so go and try it yourself
that comment was not ment for the pruducer of the video but in general for the ppl commentimg amd reading
thanx from swiss
Yes I agree I have done some blind tests and I’m planning another where people can try and pick the real amp,in a room and also with real drums obviously it’s a different ball game
But yes
The Mooer sounds better
I'm not sorry
Haha fair do’s
i think the pedal sounds better for me,less fizzy.i think iam gonna pick one since i have this amp who i dont like so much.
A lot of people have said that
