    Hey guys,
    I received a comment, suggesting the comparison of the Mooer 005 micro preamp to the 5150 block letter amp in the Axe Fx III. I thought this would be a fun video, so I bit.. and here it is!
    What do you think? Are they close?

    I quite like the Mooer preamp, the stock loaded IR is decently flexible for mixing and live situations, but mix that with any custom IR load platform (hx stomp, cab zeus, mooer radar) and you’ve got a whole new world of options for a relatively low price 👌🏼

    Mooer 005 is the best one in Mooer micro preamp, because they did some buildin EQ Match (Tone Capture) in that pedal.

    This was great to wake up to. Thank you sir
    I think it's interesting how many comments prefer the Mooer, which you can pick up on Reverb for like $70-90.
    Even though you're stuck with only 2 channels and eq, and pedal in/pedal out, this should reassure a beginner or bedroom player like me that you don't need to spend a lot to get a good sound, if that's the sound you're looking for.
    That was awesome man. 😁

      Yeah, you really can get a lot done for $100. And let's be real, most of us find one patch we like on our modelers, and that's our go to anyways! 😂 9/10 when I'm playing I'm only using an amp and cab.

    Listening through my trusted AKG K270 Studio headphones, i think i might prefer the Mooer, at least in the mix, the Axe had more defenition, but the Mooer was more gritty and nasty in a good way which made me get the feel of a real amp to a higher degree.

    would it make sense to pair these preamp pedals with a plugin offering that houses it's own separate power amp section going into the cabIR?

  • @DreidMusicalX

    I have Golden 012 of this series and I like colors my amplifier with it and using it as kind of an Attenuation device to bring the amp volume down to room level on my DSL100HR head. It also colors the amp really sweet on the blue channel of these pedals through the effects loop. That with the Mooer Radar cab pedal, BOSS EQ Pelal, delays reverb etc..,... and you can really get your rig to sound bad ass live. I was thinking about buying this pedal and now listening to it I just might.

    We're pretty well past the turning point on this now, but most people don't realize that when Ed was talking about the 'brown sound', he wasn't speaking about his guitar tone. He was actually referencing Alex's snare .
    "“I was never talking about my guitar tone,” he says. “I was talking about Alex’s snare drum. I’ve always thought Alex’s snare drum sounds like he’s beating on a log.”
    When Klosterman presses him that this is a “weird way” to describe sound, Ed simply replies, “It’s an organic sound. Brown is an organic color.”

      Ed's a known liar. Yes he was talking about his guitar tone....I remember reading the article 4000 years ago. He's said at (least once) that he tries to get his amp to sound like Alex's snare drum. And that first time he used the term "Brown Sound" he was just trying to describe a good solid workable rock n roll sound. Which for him was a Duncan modified PAF, into a MXR 6 Band EQ, into a (mostly) stock (late 60's) Marshall head with variac'd voltage at around 92%. This was his basic tone.....sure there was other gear....phase 90, MXR flanger, Echoplex, Boss EQ, and others. Everyone overlooks the variac in this equation and wonders what's missing when their stuff sounds thin and wimpy. Ed was the man!

  • @Mister_Greg
    @Mister_Greg Před 3 lety +1

    There’s a big difference which I suspect is mostly due to the speaker sim. However the top end of the Fractal is much clearer and even. I like the fatness of the Mooer which is a bit more typical of the actual amp. My interest in the demo is to see if the Mooer can cop the Soldano lead tone from the late ‘80s. I’m also considering an AMT. I saw in another video that you’re using an Ampero? The Soldano model on that one is pretty good. I mention Soldano since it was the grandfather of the EVH.

    More against the AxeFx please.. Since AxeFx is the kinda standard.
    Have you done the Atomic 6 or 12? It would be cool to do the same against the AxeFx. I dig these videos. It would also be interesting to use the same IR on these to take that out of the equation. I realize you are trying to use the stock IRs. Just thinking a comparison with the same exact IR would really show off the amp model.. Thanks so much for sharing these great vids..

  • @peponline88
    @peponline88 Před 4 lety +3

    Great comparision!
    I think that the sound of the AXE fx sounds more modern, tight or hifi than the mooer 005.
    leaving that aside the mooer gives the axe a tight figth cause the main difference is in a subtle ecualization.
    In the mix i choose the Axe fx cause I like beter that more modern/tigther sound.
    But listening them alone I prefer the mooer.
    I think that those diferences can be minimized by using a ir loader and a power amp emulation on the mooer.
    Do the Axe fx had a Power amp simulation activated?
    Is the cab sim on the mooer an IR ?
    Cheers from Argentina!

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  Před 4 lety +2

      Yeah, the power amp emulation was definitely active on the axefx. With the brown sound, its built into the IR. You dont have any control over it really. Theres only one volume and it controls the volume of the pedal, not the master of the "amp"

    I think the little Mooer micro preamps are great for budget recording and still getting decent sound.
