ThePedalGuy VLOG How Should You Use Preamp Pedals featuring the Mooer 005 Brown Sound Preamp Pedal

  • In this video, we circle back to the Mooer 005 Preamp pedal to demo the difference between plugging the pedal into the front of your amp, and plugging it into the FX Return in the back of your amp.
    There's a distinct difference in both examples. Plugging into the front essentially double stacks two preamps and the results can be less than ideal. Plugging a preamp pedal into the back of the amp via the FX Return bypasses the on board preamp/EQ and leaves the driving to your preamp pedal instead. The audible difference is noticeable for sure. Have a look and listen.
    You'll find it today at ThePedalGuy

    So if you’re using delay effects through your effects loop, which goes first the preamp, and then the effects and into the effects loop or vice a versa?

    Great video, I just got one today and I'm wondering if there's any way I could combine it with my hotone ampero 2, this one being my main distortion tone and using the Ampero as an IR loader and for modulations. If so, could you please tell me what the signal chain would look like? Thanks in advance.

    • @ThePedalGuy

      Sure, you could place the preamp pedal before the Ampero or you could use the FX Send/Return on the Ampero and place that signal block before the Cab block.

    Hello pedal guy, can I ask you a question? I have a high end tube mic preamp and I would like to use it to improve the sound of a Dan Electro Honeytone mini practice amp. I have my reasons for doing this and it's an interesting project. I've replaced the crappy 3" 2 watt speakers with a NOS 3/12" 5 watt drive in movie theater speaker cone. Will the 26 decibels of the tube mic preamp damage the tiny 5 watt 8ohm speaker? Can I use a tube mic preamp to push a tiny micro mini guitar amp, if I replaced the speaker with a 3/12" 5 watt speaker? Will I blow the speaker? Or is it a simple matter of not turning the preamp up too much, THANKS

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  Před 3 lety

      That’s kind of a tough question to answer. My spidey sense tells me that you should simply watch your levels on the preamp as it sounds like a a connection. That will eat that speaker for lunch.

    I think most people that are looking at preamp pedals want to eliminate the need for an amp altogether. I've looked and looked and I can't find a video that shows the difference between a preamp pedal (like the Joyo AC Tone too), a cab simulator, and how each can be used. For example, can I run a preamp pedal direct into a PA? Can I run a preamp pedal into cab sim then into PA? can I use just a cab sim into PA? If you make a video that clarifies the use of those I'd be very happy personally :D (good content, keep up the good work!)

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Madj. Thanks for the kind words and questions. To answer your questions, if a preamp pedal has a cab simulator, then you can go straight to the PA system. The only downside is that adding additional FX in the chain is not possible unless the preamp has those capabilities, such as the Hotone Legacy Floor Amps. Ideally, you would want to run a preamp pedal into a cab sim (AKA IR Loader) and you're in luck as we have done this a few times in the past few months. Here are a few links for you

    • @domvalhalla7771
      @domvalhalla7771 Před 21 dnem

      You can connect like this: fuzz, compressor, overdrive, distortion, Preamp pedal, then you can connect your tuner, modulations, delays, reverb, and all that signal chain can go to the fx loop return.
      So you can use you can skip the amp and only use youre preamp pedal with the power section of your main amp.

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  Před 4 lety

      Dave Keel hi. Well that would probably sound a bit strange unless you were plugging directly from your guitar to the preamp pedal. Then it would be fine.
      If not and you choose to plug into the fender, you’ll already preamp the signal, send it through the amp EQ and then hit the preamp pedal in the fx loop.

      Hi Steve. Thanks for your question. I believe I answered that in this video but at 2:10 it gives you a pretty demo of what that would sound like. The short version is yes you can plug it into the front of your Marshall, just realize that it's a preamp/EQ Pedal going into a Preamp/EQ Amp, meaning that you will need to make some adjustments to make sure when you double stack the preamps, they don't nasty up the tone. Takes a little practice but it will work.
