As a Russian viewer, I really enjoy seeing how much time Vlad devotes to drinks from the USSR. keep up the good work! (also, movie inserts from "Операция Ы и другие приключения Шурика" are amazing)
Yeah man, such nostalgia and memories 😋
I loved those movies as a kid!
I'm from the US and I appreciate that this is the first youtube short I've seen mentioning Russia or the USSR that doesn't demonize them in any way.
We do not get this type of stuff very often in the West, we are mostly told to hate Russia and hate Russian and Soviet culture.
@@simon9978hthis all of CZcams shorts nowadays, just a modern version of the Red Scare without communism, it’s sad seeing a great culture you grow up with portrayed as a demon by the West
@@odie0086 I completely agree, but I might say that really, the Red Scare never actually ended. It's tenets have just become so commonplace in the West that nobody even questions them. Anti-communism, Russophobia, Sinophobia, and the like have all become the general norm, they have become "common knowledge" in the West.
The footage used in video is from soviet 1965 movie "Operation "Y" and Other Adventures of Shurik". The character you saw there poured half of his compot glass on the ground, so that later he would add vodka there. As my dad told, that was the first soviet cocktail in the movies. Thank you, Vlad, for showing western viewers soviet classics!
Thanks mate loved that movie when I was a kid
Was my childhood 🖤
I also eat the fruit after its done boiling, while waiting for the kompot to cool down) Also can look really cool in the serving carafe with frozen slices of fruit together with the ice!
Are you from Soviet Union?
@@ayanjit9196 most countries who were behind iron veil were used to this, not exclusive only to ussr
@@tom9507 oh. Which country were you from?
Growing up in Serbia, grandmother's kompot was the highlight of the visit to my grandparents. No disrespect to others but Slavic grandmas are something else.
Kompot is also pretty popular in poland, though there it’s mostly cherry or strawberry based, or both
Poland was a part of the ussr
@@unterhau1102 it was occupied by USSR but it was not a “legitimate”part of USSR.
@@Xottapchenko still part of USSR. Kompot was popular everywhere in the USSR.
@@unterhau1102 bro You know Poland has a story outside of a brutal russian occupation right? It’s Not like entire Polish culture is based on the USSR Just cause they manipulated the government
@@laserrider2325 Slavic culture is super similar all around. Especially Slavic countries that are ex-soviet. And I said nothing about Russia, sounds like you want to victimize yourself

о, единственный русский коммент 😂
My grandma always makes compot with raisins, plums and apples. Best thing EVER!
Yes correct. When we don't chase our vodka with vodka, a good sniff of compote will do 👍
Когда нет водки для водки- нюхай стакан от водки)
It was also popular in East Germany.
My grandma still makes Kompot as desert sometimes.
Compot is actually a mad drink if you go to any house in Russian or Armenia they have entire wardrobes of that stuff
Armenians make really good jam. It is hard to but where I live, but it is good.
Now were talking. This brings back so many childhood memories. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Kompot is actually common in a lot of European countries, I’m from Poland and one of the best kompots in my opinion is with dried apples witch is a tradition to drink during the Christmas holidays

I loooove how he teach people about this delicious things that's not really popular outside USSR...
bring more things to mainstream audience from it there because it's actually pretty good!!!
All I know I love kompots
it isn't only a soviet thing it has been on the balkan for many decades if not even hundreds of years
Yeah but kompot in the Balkans is usually made with dried fruits.
@@glasrazuma933 in some countries its made with dried fruits but in macedonia its made with fresh fruit thats boiled in water and sugar
@@glasrazuma933 Wouldn't say usually. I legit didn't know people make it with dried fruits
I have never seen kompot made of dried fruit. Fresh apples (and something more) only. My grandmother make it almost every day
It's very simply a European thing
My grandmother in Turkey made this to us too, such great times

I'm watching this and drinking kompot in the same time 😁 It is also made in Poland to this day.✌️
Interesting to see these sorts of differences. I'm Czech and here we also have kompot (it's called the exact same) but it's more about the fruits rather than the drink. We always make cherry kompot and the result is a jar crammed with as many cherries that it can fit, and the liquid is more of a nice bonus.

We need cocktails with compot. Whhat about Compotini, Compot Old Fashioned or Compot Sour, or El Compot on tequila😂
Vlad i know it brings back childhood memories of visiting babushka in her dacha
The Babushka series is my favorite .
Goddaaaam i have such nostalgia now
It's so easy, you can even forage some berries and make your own kompot in nuclear apocalypse
love your videos.
cool to see something that I know since I've born
i am litterally drinking kompot rightn now
That show brings back good memories. And kompot is good to just add some Rum or Vodka right in it for a good poolside drink.
I don't like drinking but the way they make looks like an art.
My school still gives these out in slovenia. They're so delitious
in Romania is quite common to find a lot of jars filled with compot, most commonly using peaches not apples,or pear in everyone's household around my area.
my grandma makes kompot all the time!! me and my cousin likes it, she serves it whenever we come over
I’m actually Russian and it’s the first time I’ve ever seen Kompot being a chaser. Actually we have two drinks: Kompot and Mors (IDK if I spell them correctly in English) and Kompot is a fruit drink whilst Mors is a berry drink.
I always enjoy drinking Campot when I'm visiting my Babushka
Mmmmm kompot 😍 cheers from Poland ;)
Ah Kompot, to be honest I think that a strawberry kompot is the best, there’s nothing better than a glass of cold kompot on a hot summer day
Prikolno!hello from Estonia;)
Thats interesting, in france we have a similar thing also called compot. Its pretty much the same but with much less water. Its mainly done to eat the fruit isntead of drinking.
Sometimes you can smash it and make like a fruit pure.
Compot made my childhood
Выглядит вкусно, продолжай в том же духе!
As I said: once you've tried soviet drink - you become a COMRADE🫡
Im from Poland and a cold home made kompot on a hot summer day just hits diffrent man.
I made a few batches after Boris made his video on it. I opened one after 5 years and it was still delicious.
My dad was a chef/baker and he would make this every so often and its a favorite drink of mine oml i love it
So what I've been making IS kompot! Thank you Life Of Boris for teaching me this refreshing drink
I used to make kompot out of apples and cherries when i was in highschool, honestly its pretty good
I'm polish but my grandmother makes me strawberry kompot and it tastes really good
Apple kompot tastes like wood smoke smells in such a good way!.
In Romania I always prepared it with my grandparents, ah good childhood memories
In Hungary, we eat the fruits from the compot with stew, and then drink the fluid. It's truly amazing.
My grandma makes kompot everytime we arrive in poland and it is amazing
You would usually put the ingredients raw in jars fill them up with water seal them and put them in a very big pot. Fill the pot with water and boil them for I think a couple hours. Then take them out and let them sit until winter (they get tastier over time)
When I was a kid and we had guests, my grandma usually made decanter of kompot for ones who doesn't liked flavours of strong alcohol and for kids at the table
This was my favourite thing to drink as a child. I just remember always craving these after school
As a person who drinks atleast a cup of kompot a day I can already say that recipe is good
