    Rule no.1. Don’t think that you have to visit all the tourist hot spots. If you have only a few days then just using the London Eye for instance (which is 90% tourists) watching Changing of the Guard (100% tourists) or hanging around Piccadilly Circus (99% tourists) can easily be skipped for walking the real city. London is enormous and while there are many areas not of interest there are also many that are not overwhelmed by visitors and give a better idea of the city.

    One tip i think is to download and be aware of the tfl tube map that shows walking times between central tube stops as quite often if you are travelling just one or two stops its as quick to walk and you see more of London

      Thanks for sharing! We always prefer a walk through London. In our neighborhood of London, we would walk to a further station as it was nicer and the walk was more enjoyable.

      Erica loves finding good coffee. Monmouth, Erica loves Gail’s lattes, Prufrock, Workshop, Assembly, and our friend helps runs Roasting Plant Coffee. They are all specialty shops, except Gail’s. Have a great trip!

    This is well done and I would say fairly accurate. Well done. Though the Elizabeth line is not more expensive than the tube! Always recommend that as the best travel, unless you are staying somewhere close to a Piccadilly line tube stop.

      Kids 5 and under ride free. we went through the double gate as we had a stroller too. Kids 5-10 can get a zip oyster card for free and reduced fares.

    When you use your debit card does it need to be loaded with euros or will it transfer dollars to euros? First trip to London and Scotland next year and trying to figure out the money thing!

    • @YourGuidesAbroad
      @YourGuidesAbroad  Před měsícem

      Your bank will transfer the fund automatically, you can't load it with Euros or pounds. Make sure you select "pay in local currency" on the machines as the bank gives a better exchange rate.

    Also remember that London covers roughly 606 square miles. The City of London is both a city and a ceremonial county. That is why they have a separate police service (City of London Police) to the rest of London (the Metropolitan Police Service - commonly known as The Met Police whose HQ is commonly known as Scotland Yard). The 32 London boroughs make up the remainder of London, which is often known as Greater London, which is also a ceremonial county, and while both are London, the City of London (as opposed to the city of London) is the ancient part of London founded by the Romans after 43 AD. The City is only 1.12 square miles of the more than 606 square miles. Your map of the airports inaccurately showed Heathrow to be outside London but it is in fact in the London Borough of Hillingdon. However apologies if you just meant to show it was outside central London. Therefore there are 2 international airports within London and the other 4 are outside London but part of London airspace. There are roughly 8 million people in the 33 London local authority areas (the City of London and the 32 London boroughs), about the same as the 5 boroughs of New York City, but in an area roughly twice the size of NYC.
