This video popped up in my recommendations, not sure why but clicked as I actually live in Seaham. Spent a lot of time collecting sea glass especially as a child, it always seemed so fascinating. There is a small shop along the seafront, Seaham Waves, which also makes jewellery from the sea glass. I never realised sea glass was so popular and sought after. Makes you realise the things you take for granted because it's just always there and is a normality when for the majority it's not. The old bottleworks were my playground as a child but they're totally gone now.

The ocean is sneaky. Sometimes there's gravel and sometimes the gravel is gone. Some locations seem to always have good gravel. I have a location where the ocean will deposit 2 feet of rocks and a month later the rocks are gone. Sometimes the gravel \ rocks gather at one end of the beach where there is a natural (a cove) or a man made barrier. There is an art to finding where the gravel likes to gather. I love Google maps Satellite view to find new places. 75% of the time it leads me to nice sea glass. Just not as good as Seaham... Happy Hunting.

This is heaven!!! I can spend hours collecting these beautiful pieces without complaint for hours together.
I love collecting pebbles, shells also corals that wash off the beach. Have my own little collection in a glass jar that has shells picked from all the beaches, I have traveled to so far. I have also been lucky to find some very beautiful and detailed fist size corals that I use in lieu of paper weights on my desk.

    • @sinetwo
      @sinetwo Před 3 lety +2

Please do not collect shells and corals from the beach. This all goes back into the eco system and becomes sand. Smaller shells are also used for hermit crabs.
Glass however is man made so that can be taken away but do not take things made by nature.

We all went to church today; to hear what the preacher had to say; He spoke of the things so true, and good; of sins washed clean by precious blood.
Than I sat with my family; for a lark across the sea; with beautiful polished glass and rocks, seabirds flying, o’er the docks. A grand fine day, so far away, where wind and waves all seemed to play!
(The weather here is wind and snow, for we live away up north ,you know; in like a lion comes March, to blow, us into the house, where the fires glow.)

Here in Washington State we have a place called "Glass Beach". It is a long walk from the closest access point, like 3 miles. The closer to the dump site one gets, the larger the pieces are. You might consider finding an old map and find exactly where the glass was dumped.
Likely you would find a bigger selection of colors and hopefully, larger pieces.
That is quite a beautiful ring you made too. I hope you include a history of the sea glass with it to the buyer, as to add to the history of it.

I've heard about those types of beaches. There is one in maine and in boston harbor there is place called spectacle island that used a big dump but it isn't anymore and now it beaches and trails. Tons of stuff and seaglass is on that island but its illegal to remove it which is sad. I heard they really watch you to make sure you don't remove seaglass(to perserve some seaglass for the next generators). Which I get bc it is becoming harder to find at least where I live but its still sad.

You do have to have rubber boots or plastic sandals for that beach. This is the best way, stay in one place and rake through the pebbles :)

I don't know why YT suggested this to me, but I'm glad they did. My mom passed in 2018, and her favorite thing to do was beachcomb for shells and sea glass. She would have loved to explore this beach. ♥️

YOU DID IT!!!!! Thank you so much! What an amazing place-- Wooohoooo!
I did a bit of my own 'mudlarking' over here on an island barely off shore in Maine, USA and found (of all things) pipe stem bits, 7 (count 'em, *7*!) marbles- only 1 clear, and an assortment of other wonderful things! So pleased-- and I had to laugh because it's the first place that was well and truly schloopy muddy, and the sound effect reminded me of Thames fore shore adventures LOL!
Thank you for this wonderful, beautiful adventure, ladies. Every expedition is a delight! Eliza

At 12.17 when you picked up a pinky/clear glass there was a red bead just to the right. Try getting some industrial knee pads which you fasten on. No chance of them getting washed away.

The history and the jewelry are wonderful. You honor those workers by making the jewelry from their hard work. I'm sure they are smiling down and very happy with their legacy being showcased this way. As an avid beachcomber, being housebound is hard on me. The beaches are closed due to the virus. So watching the waves and seeing the pebbles and glass on the shore is so comforting to me.
