    Episode synopsis:
"Freddie falls for Garth Parks, a handsome and intelligent baseball star. Teammate Dwayne backs out of a date to the dance with Freddie so that she can go with Garth. However, Dwayne is disturbed when Garth shares details of a past incident with a woman. Dwayne describes the story to Walter, who confirms that it should be considered date rape. When Dwayne tries to dissuade Freddie from dating Garth, she accuses him of jealousy. Garth takes Freddie to an observation point and tries to force himself on her, but Dwayne comes to the rescue. Freddie and the other victim make statements to the police and help put Garth behind bars."

romans52345 i didnt hate on men. I hate men who have little to no respect for women (the ones that gave us life). Fuck men's rights! Men are already the default. Yall hate me becuz I'm a woman...a carefree woman. You and your buddy cant handle that too well. Since both of you hate women so much, yall should just be gay...but yall will hate them too cuz they have "feminine traits"

Movie matics I'm so glad that they did a topic about rape in this episode, because ot was rare that they talked about this on TV back in the 80s.

Movie matics Scratch That. Different Strokes actually did two rape episodes in the 80s. One called the Bicycle Man, and the other one was the episode where Kimberly almost got raped in the hitchhiker episode.

@@louise9024 actually Cosby was only executive producer after season 1. The gorgeous Debbie Allen was the director and producer after season 2 which is why the cast changed. Allen's shows are always very funny but never shy away from deep social issues affecting the community which is why i respect her work so much. And you are right......no one was talking about this in the 80s which is what makes A Different World so special. Its a monument

I remember watching this episode when it first aired in the spring of 1989..I was just reaching male adolescence and I learned a very valuable lesson from it..there was a particular time when I was going out with this girl and we were starting to get serious...I remember we were just getting in the grove (basically like Dwayne explained it) we had the house to ourselves lights were turned down low soft music playing etc...we were kissing and touching each other and then snap...she stopped and said she didn't wanna go "all the way"..I remember getting upset with her because my hormones were going haywire at the moment and then all of a sudden everything went to a screeching halt...I didn't understand why she stopped..I kept trying to talk her into it but she said "no I really don't wanna do this". Then I remembered this episode and she was absolutely right...I was going too far and got upset with her about it but I apologized to her expeditiously I told her that I was WRONG by trying to convince her into doing what she really didn't wanna do..I told her she was right and that I was really sorry and it wouldn't happen again..from then on I NEVER made the 1st move...I always had the woman make the 1st move and I ALWAYS asked "are you sure you wanna do this"? As I said this episode taught me a very valuable lesson...

Everything about this video is 100% spot on. No means no, and there's not a damn thing confusing about that. Second, everyone needs to talk about this kind of thing, because correct knowledge brings correct conduct. If you rape, you deserve to spend the best years of your life in prison.

People don't appreciate how far we've come since the 1960s and the start of the Sexual Revolution. This episode was aired because it was still a fairly novel idea that "no means no", and this was 1989. These days, "no means no" is a bedrock principle among everyone except the very worst people, to say nothing of how far we've come in terms of the importance of the ability to offer consent, or whether consent is informed or even coerced.
