  • This crazy Peugeot 205 GTI 6 has 245HP and serious modifications.. can this make it as good or even better than the 208 GTI , a car 30 years its junior? To help it along the 208 also has a few mods!

Real metric = smiles per mile. The 205 is awesome. I had two 205 1.9 GTI’s from new, the second with power steering - neither had a cat. I absolutely loved them and was hooked from the moment I pulled out of a lay-by on the test drive. I literally crave the thought of driving one again, even more to take my son out for a ride - he has a Golf GTE which is fast but simply does not have the character or pure driver engagement. Great video - your passion for cars is addictive!

Nice tribute to France, that 205 really sounds angry, the response of this engine with the itb is amazing. For a country road blast its perfect ! You'd be surprised how well Bilstein B6 handle bumpy road at the right pace. I have them on my e30 paired with h&r race springs on the front. At low speed it's really firm, past 50mph on a bumpy road, the shocks work really well. This 205 isn't the dual usage daily princess to go to work and then punk bad girl when you hit sport mode whatever. It's evil all the time, some like, some don't, but this why I drive old cars. Compromised life for sure, but never compromised for smiles !
I hope to drive a 208 and a Fiesta St, I like them and I think they are the best modern interpretation of "hot hatches" for not a ton of money. The thp sounded good but it seemed loud ahah. Thanks for the review and for the company to let you drive 2 nice machines. It makes us french guys proud of our little cars sometimes (not for everythings but thats another story ..)

Last time I went shopping for a personal, fun car was in 2006. I had a MK2 GTI at the time, which I owned for 17 years, and was finally in the position to spend a good sum on a serious car. Drove a lot of cars. Some were pretty good. Still, few had the steering feel and feedback of my GTI. This is an important property for me, as I like to know when the car is just about to understeer, as an example, before it begins to lose grip and found that few cars at that time could duplicate the GTI's feedback.
Ended up with an Evolution IX, which I still own and have no plans to sell. I am not surprised in the least that the 205 is a better car to drive, especially given its tuning. This is why I'm keeping the Evo for what's left of my life. It has the excitement and fun of older cars with the addition of AWD and power to spare. It's raw, direct and immediate. This being said, it doesn't seem like this 205 lacks power. I can only imagine what it's like to drive at 800kg.

The 205 GTI now should be kept in standard form for future value (if its standard to start with), already modified then help yourself.
But the 205 has a lot to answer for, tbh the 309 GTI is better but people modified the 205's, first with Mi16 engines, this now leaves us without some fantastic Peugeots due to this (405 Mi16's and 306 S16's and now the 306 GTi-6's), as these are more than rare due to the transplants.
With the 208GTi, atleast there are plenty of cars with the EP6, you can pick a 70k miler up for less than 6k, which is a bit of a bargain tbh, but most modern Peugeot's lack some feel in the steering due to them moving towards electronic systems, not many companies have it down to a tee when it comes to steering feel because of this.
Still, that 205 looks a bit of a beast, think it would tire you out quite quickly on any lengthy journey though :(

Every Kilo affects how a car handles corners and bumps. The "smiles per mile" ratio was very obviously way higher in the 205. Thanks, Great fun.

You said the 208 doner car and engine would be 13k but didn't say what the 205 would be, doner and those mods?

i totaly agree with what your saying im a vauxall man and for example if you put a astra h shape 1.8vvt sri 140 bhp against a mk2 astra sri 1.8 115 bhp the old car would destroy the newer heavier car with everything in it you dont need

Another FAB video on a subject close to our hearts (folks of a certain age perhaps) A friend of mine back in the day worked for Peugeot and had both versions of the 205 GTI. We had a lot of fun ! From a personal point of view would you ever be interested in making a video about the Mk1 Mr2 ? I own a Mk1 Mr2 b which I've had since 1988. There are lots of conversions / upgrades .........would love to see your thoughts ! ;)

Love 205gti’s but for a daily I’d take the 208 any day of the week. Climate control and apple car play. No ice on the inside of windows and trying to defog it on a cold winter morning. Yes please !

Believe it or not the French Government at the time considered “banning” the 1.9 GTI because of its power/weight ratio! I was also told by a mechanic “I drove one of those once, put me on the backseat!”- again due to the power/weight ratio In spite of these fear-stories I purchased one of the last produced 1.9 GTI’s on a J plate(91) with factory Peugeot styling kit in Miami metallic blue.
Previously I owned a Peugeot 1.6 CTI (cabriolet) and graduated to the 1.9 despite the misinformation which was never borne out, except for the flimsy/lightweight body construction, but still a great driver’s car with go-cart tractability. However, I would ask should the featured modified PUG1 205 with a 306 GTI engine still be considered a 205? It also needs to have a roll cage, especially with the increased performance. Thankfully re- Peugeot's flimsy/lightweight body construction, I never had a crash in either of the original 205's!!!
Anyone remember the Dimma modded 205 GTI"s ?

So i had a 1.4 205 which was quite fun, sadly not much GTI's left here. After some takin care of I managed to pull against a 2 liter mazda 3, quite an achievement :) Now I have the 208 GTi and its quite an experience. I wish I could drive a 205 GTI but...What can I do.
The 208 is a great car. Took me a month to get used to it, but its a beast, fast car

You can 't beat lightness and a good balance, the weight distribution in that heavily modified 205 seems not disturbed, otherwise there would be dreary understeer like on an Audi. The 205 is still a reference for hot hatches even as a standard 1.9!

Nice video and compare but you should have tested those on a track.
You only used 50% of the cars capacity! The 205 seems faster but it's probably just an impression.

That 205 looks like immense fun to drive. The smile on your face said it all. Out of interest, to compare what was the Bhp per tonne for the 208?

    • @carlmarkwyatt
      @carlmarkwyatt Před 3 lety

      The standard 208 is 1,160kg so at 297bhp it'll 256bhp per ton.
