OMG 😳 I was 30 years old when this murder occurred in 1989. It was ALL OVER TV!! Thank goodness for me in 1987 my Mom purchased a franchise business for me in to run. So that kept me BUSY 7 days a week for approximately 120 hour weekly. I ran my business until 1996, so I didn’t have to see all of that mess on TV all the time. It got old really quickly. It was sad 😔 how they were killed, but the child rape part was difficult to hear. Times were different 30 years ago. Child abuse and rape wasn’t spoken about in the open like it is now. Things were just DIFFERENT 🤷🏽‍♀️

He was obsessed with this “perfect life”. he owned a successful business, made lots of money. But was abusing my grandmother. She was so badly abused that she couldn’t see he was abusing my mother from a small child to teen years. Only difference is my mom left at 16. So many families are destroyed by “fathers” like this. their first trial had more corroborating evidence of abuse than most successful abuse cases. erik and lyle were so mentally underdeveloped and brainwashed from the abuse; they were taught to fear their parents their whole lives so its reasonable to believe they truly thought they were in danger the night of the killings. their case is so unfair. I hope they get justice.

They also had soooooo many witnesses who testified that they were indeed being abused. Their cousin’s testimony was one the saddest things I ever heard. He said one of the boys was so afraid to leave his room at night because his father would use that as an opportunity assault him, that he kept Tupperware under his bed and literally went to the bathroom inside of it and would empty it in the morning. Their tennis coach also witnessed them being physically and verbally abused many times, and Kitty’s own sister did too. The fact that the judge didn’t allow the abuse to be mentioned the second time around is so disgusting.

14:13 Lyle “bullying/molesting Erik” that you stated in the video was 100% Jose’s fault and only happened when they were little little kids not around the time of the murders. Jose told Lyle to bully and belittle Erik when they were children. Because Lyle thought that him having sex with his dad was normal, he also tried to touch Erik thinking that that was normal. All of this resulted in Erik and Lyle basically resenting each other. But this only happened for a short period of time until Erik was around 6-8 (I believe) and then Lyle started sticking up for him and taking the beatings/blame for stuff Erik did. Erik then idolized Lyle in an “unhealthy obsession” as family and friends say. Lyle protected Erik with his life which is why Erik telling Lyle that Jose was still doing this stuff was such a deal breaker to Lyle. It was bad to Lyle that Jose had been touching him, but when he found out that Jose had been touching Erik, that was Lyles done point. Lyle constantly told friends if anything happened to him, they need to help take care of his brother. Erik stated that if either of them were to die, he would rather himself die so Lyle could live. These brothers have the closest bond I have ever seen in the media from a non movie/show standpoint.

It was actually even worse. The mother sexually abused Lyle. Also, the mother knew what was happening to her son's and did nothing. Lyle sexually abused his younger brother Eric once acting out the abuse his father had done to him. Prior to the murder, the father would not allow Eric to live on campus for college and had to stay in the family home meaning the abuse would continue and Eric was desperate for it to end. Eric told his older brother Lyle that the abuse was still happening (Lyle had previously threatened his father and scared the crap out of him to make sure Eric wasn't abused).
The two brothers are now in the same prison and doing relatively well all things considered. Sadly, Eric found prison safer and a better life than the one he had known before with his parents.

He abused multiple young girls after me. So sometimes I wish I could have gotten to him before he would hurt others. That's why my view may differ from others. My own experiences mold my train of thought. Is it right to feel this way? Probably not. Can I control it? Not without intensive help. Will I be able to identify when I need help? That's not likely given how often these types of mental breaks happen. For them, yes help was available, or at the very least COULD have been available had they seeked it out. Most don't have that luxury. Many people have no way (nor funds) to seek out help when needed. 🤷‍♀️ It definitely sucks and ruins many lives, not just the ones abused.

    - Their mother 100% knew about the abuse and actually abused the boys herself (though not sexually)
    - Their cousins/family friends testified at the first trial to having witnessed abuse at their home, and that they had disclosed the abuse to them as children

It takes a lot of trust to be a stay at home mom because you’re losing years of work skills and finances. If anything were to happen in the marriage the woman wouldn’t have societal power and that makes for a very imbalanced dynamic. It works for a lot of people but for many many women it makes them too vulnerable

I subscribed to your channel few days ago as it speaks of my favorite moments in history stories (Geek) and I love how you incorporate them with your makeup tutorials (GENIUS).

Nah set them free, if it’s true. There are cold-blooded killers getting out of being in jail everyday and some of them are police officers. The brothers should be allowed probation at least if they killed their clearly abusive father. Plus the court did everything they could to find them guilty because “boys can’t be sexually abused”, they were not given a fair trial at all.

@@camdenhunt7565 i dont even believe they were sexually abused .. is there any proof of that ?? That was just in my opinion a defense made up by their lawyer.

I don't think being a full time care giver is usually intended as a trap - sadly many times it's the only option since childcare isn't always available or affordable.
But I will say I highly recommend that all full time care givers (SAHM) keep a current and solid resume at hand based on the crazy skill it takes to keep tiny humans alive. Also, keep credit in your maiden name and if you can volunteer places to keep your resume flush with references you'll be ready in case you lose your partner. Death happens too...
