Nuclear Monday - Short Film [2018]

  • When the nuclear disaster no one wants, comes.
    Fictional Set-up:
The world political stage has turned upside down from the direction it was going after the Singapore Summit. Kim Jong Un, has continued to house nuclear missiles, even after the agreements him and US President Donald Trump had. Once the news reports this, the tension felt last year with the potential guam nuclear attack comes back, this time stronger. It appears the long feared nuclear war is imminent. A madman is poised to fire the weapon whenever. Donald Trump then launches a preemptive nuclear strike on the North Koreans. This prompts Russia and China to declare war on the U.S claiming the U.S informally declared war by launching the nuclear strike first. Within minutes the news headlines blank out to the EAS (Emergency Broadcast System). As terror consumes those caught unaware by their normal day others have been prepared for this for a while, and in this short film it's time to survive or die.
It took me and my friends a month to create this short film, we hope you like it.
    Actors:
Chris Murphy (Guy Not prepared) - Michael Alsheimer
Brian Willis(Prepared Guy) - Bobby Artoglou
NNS Newscaster Stephen Philips - Joshin George
Man looking out window - Shajed Ahmed
Special Thanks to all the CZcams tutorials on DIY camera tools like the Dolly, Shoulder Mount and regarding f stops and so on, really helped.

One day in 1968 in Orange County, Calif., an unannounced test of air raid sirens countywide caused fright and concern in our grade school, and other places in the area. Regular monthly tests on certain Fridays at 10 am would prompt us to get in our balled fetal position under our desks, and we did so this time when the sirens unexpectedly sounded. Our teachers were startled, as were all the kids, because it wasnt the scheduled day or time. Adding to the fears were the sound of jet fighters in full afterburner zooming overhead and heading west ( El Toro MCAS and Los Alamitos NAS were a few miles from us). Our principal came on the PA sounding rattled, saying she wasnt notified of any drill and she was calling the authorities for clarification, but we were still to shelter. Girls in our class started crying and some called out for their moms. Eventually, the all clear siren sounded to our relief. It turned out it was an unannounced Civil Defense drill, but it caused a lot of apprehension throughout the county. Because of complaints from throughout the county, no more surprise warning sirens tests were held.

I was born in the mid 1960's. I remember air raid drills at school, learning about duck & cover. Soon, later I realized when I learned just how long it takes for the radiation to disperse back down to safe levels and how long it would take for food & water to become safe again. I figured that doing ANYTHING to survive is futile. How much food & water CAN you store up to sustain you? How much medicine, and other necessary supplies can you store up also? Where the hell CAN you go with all that I mentioned, in such a short time you MIGHT have before it's too late? What kind of world would you emerge into after years have passed, assuming that you were able to accumulate enough necessities in an adequate shelter, assuming that you could ever emerge at all? NO, no, just drop one right in my lap. I won't have time to feel a damned thing. The world will be too far gone and totally uninhabitable for anything. No thank you.

Nah, it really all depends on how far from ground zero you are. For some, it's over instantly. For others, they will die slowly. For others, life will be a little harder, but it will go on. Some might barely be impacted at all. Just because a bunch of nukes go off, it doesn't mean it's the end of life on Earth. Life will definitely go on. Worry more about the end western civilization. And even that will most likely go on after a pause, because that's what we do.

it's all there in the bible, which again, has never missed on prophecy..if it had, we would never hear
      the end of it.

@@tomj4406 Its this mentality over religion and gods the main reason for humankind failure. Religion is the main thing that divides human beings not the color of the skin. When I talk to a person I see only humans, I don't see Christians, Muslims, hindus just humans and I am happy about it. Atleast I know that I am born as a human and will die as a human. On the other hand people like you will live a preprogrammed life without even knowing the true purpose of life.

no religion has a book like that.
Christianity, it's not a religion at all, it's having faith in and a personal relationship with the creator of all that is. religion is man trying to earn heaven. faith in the Lord Jesus is knowing he made the way there..we just receive it by grace through faith. mentality has..nm to do with it. it's spiritual. many super brilliant ppl through history set out to disprove God..and ran right into him trying.
we are to trust no one..nor lean on our own understanding..so who is left? yup. The Lord. he has a lot to say about current events and what comes next. worth looking into. there is more historical evidence Jesus loved than Julius Caeser..yet no one doubts he was around. if Jesus was real..he has to be who he said he was. no way his claims and stories of events of his life would of survived analysis back then..not for one lousy day! yet..ppl that knew him never denied him, even on pain of death. and..one lil extra note..there is 6,000 years worth of dust on the moon, according to NASA guesstimates. nowhere near 4.5 billion.

This is a really well made film, well done. You really had the tension building up from the beginning, it's a realistic vision of how it might be when a perfectly normal day is suddenly transformed by the news that oblivion is going to happen in less than half an hour. What I really like is that you focused more or less on part of the city, with a small number of individuals, rather than focusing on a city-wide pandemonium scene. Because this made me feel almost like I was there. Great stuff!

I was only 7 years old in 1962 when the Cuban Missile Crisis happened and I vaguely remember the apprehension from our parents and some news reports. I do remember my mom going to the market intending to stock up on food, but I also remember her coming home and saying people were taking all the canned food they could carry, leaving many shelves bare. She said people were acting crazy in the stores. I am glad I am here all these years later alive and able to write about it, with no attack having happened.

Gorbachev warned a few years ago that we were headed toward a new Cold War. This short film makes it feel obvious that we're already there, even though we've switched presidents since this was made. This is like a real callback to 1983, when we all knew this was eventually going to happen. The fall of the Eastern Bloc and the USSR has given us a 30-year respite from the Cold War. Thank you for that. Round 2 looks to be a lot more chaotic, and many new players have little to lose.

Fade out of sirens might have been instatainious due to expanding pressure wave at a distance of 1-2 miles from ground zero, primary ground zero detonation is followed in seconds (whether low air burst or ground) by outward bound blast pressure wave. Your timing and sense of the ticking of the clock in moments of time is a great edge-of-your-seat buildup of impending carnage, just would have happened faster in suburbia, just sayin, scenario well set up... Please Make a follow-up just AFTER ignition and reverse blast going back to vacuum hole in the atmosphere. Good on ya, really

If you can survive the first 3-4 weeks, radiation levels will drop to safe levels. Finding necessities might still be doable depending on the nature of the strike. If it's a counterforce (military/D.C.) vs a countervalue (civilian) strike, things will still suck but rebuilding would be more likely and possible.

A short and truly scary film! Very well made! I've seen many scary films depicting nuclear war, but to my mind this must belong in the top tier. It's as short as the warning time we are going to get, and the end, with the waiting time between the bomb flash and the air blast, siren winding down, is truly chilling. This is goddamn beautiful. I worked for the Pentagon and Nuclear Navy and those 'klaxon' sirens did just that ... arose slowly from everywhere and - even though just a drill - gave us all nightmares that felt and looked like what you did here.
The absence of dialog, the choice of music, the subtle and deft camera-angles has 100x the impact of any CGI mushroom cloud. And the slow fade to yellow as the sirens wind down (EM pulse wave), with the slow rumble as the ground shock wave warns of the coming air-blast - is both accurate and so dramatically electrifying that it surprises us where no surprise should be possible.
This is some next-level George Lucas about-to-make-THX1138 stuff.
It is nothing short of genius. I have never seen so much accomplished with so little.
