I always knew about this crash because my family lived in Cerritos, CA before we moved to Virginia. There's a park in the civic center that has a memorial to everyone who was killed that day.

I don’t know if it’s been updated yet but planes should have a censor around the outside that lets them know when another object is too close for the pilots. Cars like Tesla have that feature and you can actually see another car on the dashboard.

Yes it’s called TCAS
It informs you when another aircraft is near and if it gets too close it tells you to climb or descend.

Small airplanes use ADSB it’s the poor man’s TCAS. TCAS cost around 15k or more so most general aviation aircraft do not have one

For vehicle safety it's a good option that tesla's car have developed but for Aircraft with more safety concerns it's difficult to rely on only sensors.... with much higher altitudes and air speed (knots ) in air. Airliner with ACAS systems inbuilt can prevent this.
