I believe his intent was to inform the public that the very people who make decisions about the futures of children in Houston ISD’s public schools live outside of the influence of their decisions. Would they allow their child’s school library to be turned into a detention center? . How does one increase literacy without books? . Does not the idea of a detention center at a predominantly Black or Hispanic school reek of school to prison pipeline?
I agree that outing the fact that those in power do not live in district is important but this twisted notion of school to prison pipeline is an excuse to not hold kids accountable for their behavior. We need libraries and detention centers . Our title 1 low income school had excellent academic test scores for years when kids who were repeatedly disruptive or violent were sent to ISS or alternative school. Then the distract said we sent too many non white kids. We had black principals and few white kids so this was not racial just the mathematical average of our diverse population. Returning these problem kids to the regular class meant all our students missed instructional time while we handled more discipline issues. So don't buy that cope out which these out of touch board members push.
Why bring up the family members or addresses of where the families live or spend their leisure time? How is that relevant to addressing his concerns about the issue at hand? It doesn't. Was that a threat? Maybe. Maybe not. It was, however, completely out of line. He should be fired.
If they fire him for what they percieve to be a threat then they should remove all of the dangerous kids at school who verbally threaten, harass and physically assault teachers all day everyday!! What a bunch of wimps. ALL teachers should walk out until the people at the top get in line with the reality of what is going on in schools today. I was wanting to side with him. No threats to My knowledge however he clearly mentioned he knew where they lived and where their kids go for extra curricula etc. Not sure the reason for that. I guess if I was in their shoes, that could be perceived as an implied or implicit threat 🥴
He stated that he was unable to reach any of the board members, when he needed to discuss some matters that concerns him, and if he as a teacher cannot get a hold of any of the board members, how is the average parent supposed to contact board members? So what he done is went online to publicly accessable sites found where people could possibly come into contact with these board members and then spoke of these places publicly during a board meeting, all perfectly legal!

That Board of Managers is not to be trusted. The teacher did not make an actual threat towards the board. However, he did offee information that does not appear to be germane to his complaint. I side with the teachers against HISD ridiculous changes, but I would feel some type of way if someone pointed out they had my address and the names of my family, that has nothing to do with the complaint.

Yeah our district went to single member districts so we would alledgedly get more diverse representation for local schools. The new members who bragged about hiring more teachers who looked like them voted close 5 neighborhood schools where our multi cultural schools are most effected.
