    Thanks guys, lovely film.
    Been freeflying for 41 years.
    Yet somehow, given the astonishing gift of life, and amongst the astonishing ways we can look to the stars and wonder, others given that gift look at their feet.

    Awesome video! It takes me back to when I was 16 years old, and saw hang gliders for the first time. It was a Bill Bennett Comercial on TV. "Delta Wing Kites". Soon after, my uncle drove to see hang gliders in person at Point Fermin, San Pedro, CA. I was HOOKED (pun intended). I took my first lesson in Oct of 78, with Joe Greblo and Rich Grisby, at what was back then "Southern California School of Hang Gliding. Located across the street from LAX on Imperial Hwy, in El Segundo, CA. Hang gliding has for ever changed my life.

    Thank you from the heart for making this movie. I didn't know gliders had progressed so much since the 70's before watching this. I'm now working on getting my license, it's amazing. Truly feels like dream come true when I fly, literally. Stay safe and continue to do what you love, it's greatly inspiring. Take care.

    Thank you so much for this awesome film.
    I see a lot of negative posts on the internet when a hang gliding pilot dies and it makes me sad. First, it makes me sad about the death because most hang gliding deaths are preventable. The majority of hang gliding deaths around the world occur when inexperienced pilots make stupid mistakes. The ones that can get you killed. I always recommend for anyone who wants to learn to fly to find a good school and commit. Go through the basic instruction and move up. Don't drop out after a few classes and assume you are an expert. These are the people that make hang gliding dangerous for all of us.
    Anyway, I felt I had to say this because I saw a bunch of stupid comments on the internet. Hang Gliding is awesome. I hang glide and also enjoy powered hang gliding in a trike. Go take some classes and learn how to fly. Then take more classes and learn how to deal with issues that may come up. Then, when you're ready, go experience the magic of human powered flight. There is nothing more amazing and satisfying. Hang Gliding is to pilots what Surfing is to surfers.

    Jeff Parrott helped me with my Hang 1 at Kitty Hawk a few years ago. Awesome cool guy along with many others there (Andy, Mike A., "Too Tall" Paul?). They all really love the sport and truly want to share the joy of flying. I really need more time off and somewhere more local that I can get back into the program to advance....or make a life change to be able to do it. I love anything aviation (38hr student pilot SEL), but hang gliding is just everything these guys mentioned. Even at Jockeys Ridge...just the amount of freedom and peace you feel on a flight THAT short...leaves you wanting more.
    da Vinci said it best.. “Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”

    I flew Point of the Mountain in 1977, with friends from Little Mountain San Bernardino. Little M is now non flyable due to development in the landing area. I ceased flying in the 90's to raise my two daughters, but I am now retired and after watching this movie, I am thinking about getting back out there. :-) There is an Antenna hill in Montrose Colorado that I has a flat top, easy access and soring possible on north and south side, much like P of the M. You Boys in Utah should go explore it. The hill is north east of the regional Air Port off of Hyw 50 you would take the 6530 rd. to the ATV park. From there you can't miss it. Enjoy Free Flyer's enjoy.... :-)

    I don't know too much about hang gliding (I paraglide) but I noticed something watching YT videos. It seems like there is one noticeable difference between American and other HG pilots: Americans tend to come out of the harness for landing really late, close to the touchdown. Europeans seem to have the legs out and the hands up the "triangle" while still way up. Maybe I'm just seeing things...

    Something nobody said because it is "politically incorrect" in the society of hang glider pilots. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN !! Usually good, but some times bad. it is always an adventure ! Maybe you hook a hot thermal and as you climb the panorama changes dramatically, you feel exhilaration.. but the cloud over you looks ominous, so you get scared and fly down. Or a group of hawks surround you to check you out, you can see them operating all their wing feathers to finely control their flight, but you are afraid they might attack. Or you find there is a regular lift pattern over the mountain, and you can fly over a wide area for as long as you like. For me, one of the greatest pleasures in life is hooking a thermal, you do nothing but allow the glider to turn and a magic invisible elevator carries you high into the sky.
    As with any real adventure, it is dangerous and you have to be careful about every detail !

    Do tiny hang gliders exist? ...... No you wouldnt be "hang" gliding, you would be speed gliding. Tiny wing, steep hill, insane speed .... etc etc. This is a fairly serious comment. I am not a hang glider, but I am around all kinds of people in sky sports (including hang gliding) and a common theme I hear from the hang gliders is that they are a bit bummed that the sport doesnt get the recognition it deserves. A wickedly tiny hang gliding wing would be pretty epic and would draw more to the sport.
    I know its possible, speed is always good! (usually...)

    Coming in a Beautiful cloud.
    They Can't Help asking themselves, If He's coming from the Sky , then who are we ?

    Then they realize they are the watchers of the sky and it is in their Gene.
    They are the only ones who have real access of seeing the real picture.

    • @NonSleeper_Occasional_Thinker
      @NonSleeper_Occasional_Thinker Před 9 lety

      5H0M3D4M0N3Y OK I Like all pilots so take it easy, arguably yes...lol, here is MY OPINION, Paragliding, slower, easier to learn, great light weight gear. Hang gliders, Faster (in general), more easy to fly when your up (no worry about collapse etc and re-inflation), Can carry your gear, but is heavier than Paragliding outfit. Prices vary but think if buying all new prices are close but Paragliding a little cheaper, Hang gliders (general) tend to fly farther but it is not impossible to fly far on a para-glider and people do it regularly, so really try a tandem on both and see which appeals to you more, I for sure am convinced that hang gliding is better, but you may find something different. Main thing is we all fly fly fly!

    • @NonSleeper_Occasional_Thinker
      @NonSleeper_Occasional_Thinker Před 7 lety

      Ok I think hang gliding is safer. But it depends on equipment. Pilot etc. I just know hang gliders do not have to worry about things like claps air foil unless something is catastrophically wrong. And again it's just my opinion and I may be wrong. I do not know as much about either to be considered a authority.

      @2036Pictures  Před 9 lety

      Depends on location, cheaper if you learn on a hill and better landing skills. Faster if you get towed up or tandem with an instructor because of the air time training comes faster than a 2-3 min flights off a hill. Expect $900 over a couple months and gliders are a little more. But then you fly for free after that.

    • @NonSleeper_Occasional_Thinker
      @NonSleeper_Occasional_Thinker Před 9 lety +1

      Slears but most of us carry "chutes" too, so if your high enough there is always that....Beginner gliders and such tend to recover from stalls easier and are harder to do that in, it can be done, but that is why you take lessons, to learn not to do that and what to do when it happens, as with everything instruction makes a world of difference!

    • @Slears
      @Slears Před 9 lety

      yap you are right high performance gliders tend to spin at a stall..that is harder to recover..but "falling of the sky" is still a pretty hard task (at a safe altitude of course). A better way to fall of the sky is to fail at airobatic manouvers..like a looping with not enough speed or something..

    Enjoy the Point while you can because it will go away to mining just like the Bonneville Salt Flats has now. The money people always win while we the few are just insignificant noise makers.

      +UNARMED TUBER… YEAH... IT WAS COOL…HARD TO GET THAT DUBIE LIGHTED...BUT…IT LIMITED MY DURATION IN THE SKY BECAUSE I GOT PARANOID AND...ALL OF THE SUDDEN…THE EARTH SEEMED TOO CLOSE, EVEN AT 2 OR 3 THOUSAND…THEN ALL THE SUDDEN I NEEDED TO THINK ABOUT MY APPROACH…SHORTENING MY FLIGHT…GETTING HIGH WITH THE KITE…THAT IS ENOUGH. LEAVE YOUR WEED IN THE TRUCK!
      OR SAVE IT FOR THE CAMPSITE IN THE EVENING.
