This takes me back, out of me & four other friends who started training. I was the only one to finish & take my first solo. Like this, I had a magic flight. An eagle rode my wing tip for about 3 mins, I really truly was flying with the birds. The start wasn't so great, an experienced flyer was up before me. He took off & focused too much on getting into his bag & eventually crashed halfway down the mountain. I had to wait for the area to clear after a rescue chopper lifted him out. I was the next after witnessing this, but I focused on my training & as stated had a magic flight. I heard later he had broken his pelvis & was back flying. I did hang gliding for 5 wonderful years, tried sky diving, but ended up scuba diving. At 53, I'm still scuba diving, but have a hankering to get back in the sky. If you made it through the to the end, thanks for reading my little story. ✌🏽️
Titus Cato Yes I read it all! Thanks for sharing. I also do a bit of scuba diving and am learning skydiving. But hang gliding remains my favourite! After four years I’m still flying; see czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html
He also read to the end, and your story proves that flying must be treated with respect. Today I fly by motor, but the experience with the glider has helped me many times to solve situations with an overview.

Nice upload. What a great place to fly too. It's been 30 years since I've hang glided but still, those early days of learning on a small hill rank as some of the most fun and rewarding and thrilling of all the flights I did. As I'm sure you know, the first time your feet leave the ground, even by just a foot or two, is thrilling. Liked!
Great video. Thanks for sharing this. I've always thought "why fly anything that uses your legs as an undercarriage?!", but after watching this, I'd love to give this a go. Well done and a great first solo flight.
Nice. 1st flight off a big hill is always memorable. Your luck to have it on video. For those wanting to "try" it. Please understand that it is a LOT OF WORK to get to that point. The easiest way is to go to a coastal site with super smooth wind and sand to bonk into!
+Allen Ayler What I wanted to convey is that it is not really something you just try (unless on a coastal dune site as I mentioned) It does take a lot of work! Primarily in the beginning when you walk the kite up the hill.....do a quick takeoff/landing (bunny hop) and then do it again. Each time getting further up the hill requiring even more work. It really takes commitment and desire. I've seen many "try" it and get tired and frustrated very quickly. I think what ruins peeps is telling them it's easy and then when they fail they think it is them.
Is this much harder than paragliding? Cause paragliding is really not that hard. Actually you can learn the basics of flying in one day. You could theoretically fly from a big hill in the second day of trining, if everthing is smooth (the weather, the wind, the surface, etc) Of course to be a safe paraglider, and to know how to avoid unpredictable things, there is a lot of training to do. But the tehniques of flying are very simple, and easy to learn. All you need is some practice, to get a proper fealing of the parashute.
well leonardokite.. it does actually take a bit of work.. first up one needs to be in reasonable health and have a bit of stamina.. one needs to be able to run for quite some distance.. when i took my paraglider course a couple of weeks ago, it said i had to be able to carry a 20 kilogram bag up a mountain.. wich i can do.. however, it wasnt nearly close to what you need to be able to do.. you should have the ability to jog for 2 kilometers without any issue.. you need to sprint against the wind with an object that resists you.. for half a minute or more!! it isnt easy! but this is the paragliding portion of flying..
Man... That was FANTASTIC !! I can't believe how well you did on the LONG flight. Your practice-hill flights took me back in time to 1974 because that's what we were doing. The next year I built an Icarus biplane from a kit and that was really fun too. Quit flying to raise my family. My child is 46 now! Lots has changed, but running off of hills still looks as awesome as ever. Hope you're well 4 years since this video was posted.

Beautiful and magical. This is a dream I have had since childhood. I don't have the dexterity it would take, so I could never do it myself... but it is nice to live vicariously through people in videos like this.
Brilliant! Really well done Michiel 👏 I enjoyed this video very much. I had the chance to go in a double kite at La Jolla (San Diego) in 1991. But, it required jumping off a 100+metre cliff after running down a baked-clay "runway". Looking over the edge…I just could not do it 😢 Anyway, congratulations again on your "wings".

9min of pure heavenly experience. Sometime its feels like, who have seen what's after death? The time u spent here on earth, considered that this is heaven and this is hell.
Much appreciated, no stupid loud music playing in the background, just the natural sound of the wind. And the first person view is the best. What’s the point of the camera facing at the person flying and missing the entire view 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
that was amazing and awesome and am inspiration n makes me want to do hang gliding right away. presently I am saving for para motor lessons but I wish to learn hang gliding also wow that was awesome I was flying with you and predicting how many turns to take before landing and guessing how much height you were losing with each final approach turn etc thanks for posting awesome bro PEACE
Beautiful..... Reminds me of my first flight off Mt Swansea in Invermere Canada on October 12, 1974. Michiel.... If you ever get to Calgary CANADA, Invermere is only 3 hours away by car/van. Mt Swansea is one of the best in Canada.

Karlis Vitols Hi! Thanks for your nice comment! Braking the hangglider is done by tilting the kite; by (kinda) flying upwards... This is done by pushing the 'A-frame' outwards. Normally you pull it towards you to make speed.
So exciting to watch, thanks for the video Michiel. How many training flights did you do, before this 'first solo'? Also, did you have some radio communications with your instructor? I'm trying to understand more before I try it next year.
Thanks for your reaction! Have you seen my other vids? I have been flying for years now so it looks far more sensational! Check for instance czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html
Fantastic! My first high flight was off a 300 ft soggy English hill, but despite the countless flights since it was still my best HG experience. Get yourself over to Lanzarote with Johnny!
Holy crap. That was spectacular! I had an hour flight off the dunes at Cape Cod MA but it was just back and forth over the sand dunes. Your flight was amazing. That wasn’t your first time for that site was it?
Terry Knutson Thank you! Yes, we do carry an emergency chute. Thankfully I never had to use it! You can see the chute very clearly on my latest video: czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html. It is the big bulk on my chest in the harnass.
@Quincy Breed Though there is an emergency chute you hope never to find yourself in a situation you have to pull it. If so: you're in trouble and things are going to break. Hopefully that'll only be the glider. And if you have to pull, you throw it as far sideways as you can. It's a life saver; not made for comfort.
David Smith Yes for the first solo altitude flight we always choose a quiet day with little wind and a moment early in the morning when there are few thermals. By now, four years later, I intend to look for just that... 😀 See czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html
Cod Father - i did that lol when i was a kid lol 20 years ago and i fell soo hard . I did not break any bones or anything but i learned that im not an actual bird
Why is he just hanging there? I thought you were supposed to level out and lay flat after you're high up, no? Beautiful shot nonetheless, looks exhilarating 😃
Daniel Brown thanks and yes: you are right. By now I do fly prone. See czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html But since this is my very first solo altitude flight switching to a different harnass might be too much changes to get used to. So still flying with the beginner harnass.
Being his first REAL flight, he probably didnt even realise his attitude as he was too busy gawking at the spectacle of actually flying. After all, he just threw down the glider like its his own at the end.

Jerry Can Thanks!
I hope I get a chance to do this when I go to Costa Rica in a few months! awesome video! the views were breathtakingly beautiful.
Lexi Mejias niiiceeee. Have a safe flight and lots of fun!
Lexi Mejias hi Lexi if you get the chance to do this in costa Rica please video and post to you tube it would be interesting to see...my goal and my current dream is to para glide over the statue of Jesus in Brazil and also to hang glide over Rio and land on the beach AWESOME and not a dream that is out of reach I am working towards it etc STAY BLESSED hun n keep me posted I'd like to see your Costa Rica video even if its a tandem flight etc sounds awesome

Lexi Mejias I KNOW RIGHT?!
Absolutely rivetting. I felt all the emotions; nerves, fear, exileration.....well done and keep safe. Great video. You are brave!
what if you put a paramotor on before getting is one ? :O
hands down. .. One of the best videos on the internet ! thank you !
western ghats 😊 Thank you!
9min of pure heavenly experience. Sometime its feels like, who have seen what's after death? The time u spent here on earth, considered that this is heaven and this is hell.
If death is the end than your experience and all what you was done ( and what you will done ) on earth, have no value.
Woooooowww That looked amazing. I have dreamed about doing this for some time now. You seemed very confident.
Much appreciated, no stupid loud music playing in the background, just the natural sound of the wind. And the first person view is the best. What’s the point of the camera facing at the person flying and missing the entire view 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I am no expert but that landing looked as perfect as it can get...well done.!
Thanks! Still flying and having more and more fun! Seen my more recent vid? czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html
Just found your channel. This is so awesome to be able go gliding with you
Thanks!
My latest vid: czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html. A lot has changed...
fiquei muito feliz em ver o seu voo, obrigado por compartilhar esta experiencia fenomenal conosco, parabéns pelo canal.
Buen trabajo , del Piloto y del instructor.
La alegría es inmensa.
El placer de volar.
Sehr gut Bruder!! The celebration at the end was heart warming to see :) totally inspired me to try this
Thanks!
that was amazing and awesome and am inspiration n makes me want to do hang gliding right away. presently I am saving for para motor lessons but I wish to learn hang gliding also wow that was awesome I was flying with you and predicting how many turns to take before landing and guessing how much height you were losing with each final approach turn etc thanks for posting awesome bro PEACE
Actually what is amazing about this flight is how far away from the launch it is and how much airtime one gets for evening conditions.
(Actually it was 09:30 AM)
Well done mate ! Was a pleasure to watch :D
Beautiful..... Reminds me of my first flight off Mt Swansea in Invermere Canada on October 12, 1974. Michiel.... If you ever get to Calgary CANADA, Invermere is only 3 hours away by car/van. Mt Swansea is one of the best in Canada.
Congratulations. ¡Nice first flight!.
Amazing!!
That’s in my list.
Thank you CZcams for this powerful and extremely entertaining show of hanggliding just brilliant
Thank you, brother! Also enjoy my later work, e.g. czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html 🤙🏻
I've watched this so many times, it never gets old. Brilliant
Thank you!
I do have new vids though. My latest: czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html. A lot has changed...
breath taking - thanks
Amazing it was dude !!
Man, that was awesome. Congratulations.
Well done! First solo is always a special occasion.
Have you ever made Jesus your Lord and savior? Jesus offers you His Righteousness as a gift He will wash you completely Clean from ALL your sins and wants you to Come to him it says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Meaning the punishment for our sins is Hell Because we are not obedient to God. But Jesus was completely obedient to God He went to the cross to die for us and now we do not trust in our obedience but His it says, “Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.” Gods wrath and Judgment went on Jesus Because He was carrying our sins so God treated Him like the worst sinner now God will Justly treat you like you have never sinned after you believe upon Him so when the blood of Jesus is over you God cannot treat you like a sinner! He never wants to but now He can Justly treat you like you never sinned Jesus was our sacrifice for our sins!
Tell God you admit your a sinner and ask Him to wash you with His blood and receive His Gift of righteousness. Come out of darkness and into light!
it’s your part to receive Jesus to believe upon Him. It says,
“Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”
Don’t think it’s not wrong to sin
-because He loves us.
I've never driven one of these however I was really nervous watching lol. 👍🏻
Nice approach. That has to be the hardest part.
Congratulations my fried! And thanks by to share this vídeo.
FANTASTIC FIRST FLIGHT / LANDING. good instructors also.
Perfection!
super! and so great landing! how do you guys slow downd hanggliders for landing?
Karlis Vitols Hi! Thanks for your nice comment! Braking the hangglider is done by tilting the kite; by (kinda) flying upwards... This is done by pushing the 'A-frame' outwards. Normally you pull it towards you to make speed.
Adding this to my bucket list.
I'm so envious dude - way to go man.
So exciting to watch, thanks for the video Michiel. How many training flights did you do, before this 'first solo'? Also, did you have some radio communications with your instructor?
I'm trying to understand more before I try it next year.
Inspiring to me
Thanks for the beautiful video and Congratulations on your first solo flight. 🎉
I was sweating just watching this!!
Holy crap. That was spectacular! I had an hour flight off the dunes at Cape Cod MA but it was just back and forth over the sand dunes. Your flight was amazing. That wasn’t your first time for that site was it?
SparkeyDogfish This was my very first altitude flight EVER
My latest vid: czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html. A lot has changed...
Well done…really pleased for you.All the best from the UK🇬🇧
Thanks! And: still flying... See also czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html
Greetings from Amsterdam!
Nice job dude! So many remembrances
Thank's for the "quiet ride" Michiel. Good job. i know nothing of this. Do you have a parachute? Take care.
That was damn awesome
A beautiful video! :) It almost felt like flying it. Kudos!
That was really cool! Thanks for sharing!
It's just dream come true spred your wings and fly, i have been dreaming all my life doing that, how cool and calm Frist take off🛫🛫🛫👍👍👁👁
About halfway in it looks like you're standing in front of a green screen since it's so still. Awesome flying
Well done, watched the whole video holding my breath.
You must have great lungs then! :-)
Thanks.
Your hands up in the air straight after landing... i felt that.. buzzing.. Congratulations👏
Thanks! The more I fly, the better it gets! See my latest vid: czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html
press space to deploy Glider
I can fly to my school now with my hang glider
..and back? ,))
Dude that was AWESOME! Really great video to watch
Thanks!
You've definately got the hang of it. Looks like an incredible experience.
Duncan Robinson Thanks!
I want it but how
i wouldve been puking the whole time
Looks so peaceful and serene 🤗
David Smith Yes for the first solo altitude flight we always choose a quiet day with little wind and a moment early in the morning when there are few thermals. By now, four years later, I intend to look for just that... 😀 See czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html
Amazing video and progress thanks for sharing
Joacopolar YT thank you!
HOW DO U LIGHT A JOINT WHEN ALL THAT AIR HITTING YOU?
This flying thingie gets me high enough as it is...
I want to do that from my roof
idiot
Cod Father lol
Abbas ben fernas did it and fall.
Cod Father - i did that lol when i was a kid lol 20 years ago and i fell soo hard . I did not break any bones or anything but i learned that im not an actual bird
I hope you don't
tHAT First Big one is the One you will remember forever! Congrats buddy!
That was a wonderful Solo mate! By now you'd be an ACE 👍
Why is he just hanging there? I thought you were supposed to level out and lay flat after you're high up, no?
Beautiful shot nonetheless, looks exhilarating 😃
Daniel Brown thanks and yes: you are right. By now I do fly prone. See czcams.com/video/1XL71hDXm2g/video.html
But since this is my very first solo altitude flight switching to a different harnass might be too much changes to get used to. So still flying with the beginner harnass.
you can do both
Being his first REAL flight, he probably didnt even realise his attitude as he was too busy gawking at the spectacle of actually flying. After all, he just threw down the glider like its his own at the end.
I really like it but my heart wasn't designed to beat that fast
So I will stick to kite surfing lol 🤓👌🏾
If you know kite surfing you’re half way already 😉
I'm watching it with my 5 yo son and we are both cheering, well done !
Thanks buddies!
Wow that was totally amazing and scary as hell. Glad u held on man!
Adrenaline has it’s uses after all.
Awesome footage 👍
mad jimmy thanks!
