    Come to the Far East of Jozi. You’re in the North. The larney places , things get a little cheaper when you’re this side and prices of homes ( estates) get lower but it’s much peaceful and more authentic

    We usually eat our “authentic African food” at weddings, funerals and other cultural events. It’s hard to find one authentic “South African Food” at these upmarket malls because we are so diverse, even among black people. But Soweto Vilakazi street has a collection of the stuff that we typically eat at Sakumzi restaurant.

    Just a comment on the Indian food....
    This has become part of our fabric, and can't be erased. It has infiltrated homes all over the country over centuries.
    We are a multicultural society. Asians make up about 3% of the population, but the influence is far-flung, reaching every home of the country.
    So it is normal for people to buy and add spices to their food. And then take the "kota", eg. This word is derived from "quarter", referring to a quarter loaf of bread. In Durban, the bunny chow arose. Durban has a very large Indian community. So for a bunny chow, you take a quarter of a loaf, scoop out the central soft flesh, and fill the void with curry. Then u top it it with the sliced off portion of bread. So it became to be referred to as a "quarter". Many black people started to pronounce the word as "kota". And now the kota is a bounce-off of the original quarter, where many other fillings could take the place of curry. We can also think of samoosas, eaten everywhere in the country; made famous centuries-ago by Asian-descendef Malay Coloureds, and Indians in Kwazulu/Natal. Other Indian foods are rooties, and briyani known to all cultures in the country.
    It is not a delicacy to us. It is the norm for us!
    You cannot seperate it from the term "South African cuisine".

    "Authentic South African food" in my mind it'd your tripe, sheep head, trotters and innards which to some African Americans it is poverty food. The so called South African food is not unique however. Several people in different countries also have them. The other food I can think of is fermented milk with pap.

    • @PrincessVelaryon
      @PrincessVelaryon Před rokem +1

      @@THEJONESFAMILYCHANNEL the examples I made are extreme relative to some exposure to AA standards which are also not uniform. But hey, in SA some food items were abandoned. Example is Mopani worms and flying insects. They are said to be nutritious. Other than the shocking you can get dishes almost similar soul food and many other variaties as diverse as people of SA. They have started to serve crocodile meat at upmarket restaurants too, which is not my cup of tea.
