It's odd watching Mr. Regular drive your car. Thanks for not absolutely hating it haha.

Im so glad that BMW went back to clicky turn signal boys.
BMW did a lot of experimenting in the early 2000s
Some of it was awesome, some of it was turn signals that are weird to operate and plastics so cheap that they make 90s GM look decent.
as if anyone will use them
@@elda7153 I use mine
@@OzMediaOfficial ye don't worry about it, just making a stupid joke
NO!!! e90 blinkers are perfection and it makes me to sad that they changed it :( :(
Yes it's a bit weird the first couple of times but within a week you get used to it and start seeing the advantages. You don't get the annoying mechanical clicking that takes place when you turn the wheel (the part that cancels it automatically after), it's just silent and smooth as if it was off. And it cancels out the hazard lights and vise versa, so when you turn them off the blinker doesn't keep going (if it was on beforehand) after. The haptics on them is amazing and going back to clicky ones feels like a huge step backwards to appease masses :(
And you don't have to hold them anywhere like it says in the video, you simply push them up/down all the way to put it on fully, but if you move it slightly then it just puts it on for 3 flashes. The same way with window switches where pushing it all the way will make it go all the way down by itself but pushing with only slight pressure it only goes down while you hold it.
the sound of my STI is forever tainted.

i'm just glad BMW has the balls to still make a twin turbo straight 6
Sailing The Seas of Steeze I agree

i just want nissan to make straight sixes again
The N54 is discontinued. The replacement twin-turbo is the S55, but that's M-only. The *35i and *40i models use a single twin-scroll turbo version now.
well shit
Richard Harrold the n54 was replaced with the n55 *twinscroll turbo. It now has been replaced with the b58 engine in everything (x)40 for the current generation. The s55 is droolworthy as far as output though. 425 hp, and near that for torque. people that have bought those M's had their cars dynoed to show those numbers at the rear wheels.
if you can pull a girl in your sti, she'll probably leave you with another form of sti

That's what I did... damnit
The STI fart noises and "let me smash" gag earned my like. Well done.
There's a two-step click for the turn signal, though. You don't have to hold it, just push it a bit further than you normally would and it will stay. The 3 second thing is there in most new European cars and it's there to make it easier in a roundabouts, which are common in Europe.
Yeah, takes a while to get used to it.
Hallelujahmkay my grandpas Hyundai Sonata and Genesis both had the tap thing, but you also got a click and hold to keep it on longer
Hallelujahmkay yeah, my grandma has an old 323Ci and it has a second detent in the turn signal. Hell, even my Camaro does the 3 second blinker thing when I tap it.
Some Opels have this type of turn signal too. At first, it's a pain in the ass but after a few days it will feel completely logical.
But really, if they can change stuff like the units of measurement in the U.S. model they could stand to change the signals as well.
It's funny how similar this comparison of BMW 335i vs STI is to my feelings about my current Audi S4 vs my previous Mazdaspeed3.
I had a 2012 Mazdaspeed3 that I modified (roughly 300 WHP, 350 WTQ, great suspension setup, brakes, wheels, etc). Yeah, it was fast, but it was so uncomfortable on long drives, loud, and felt somewhat cheap.
Then I bought a 2011 Audi S4. It's a totally different experience. The S4 feels just as fast, with a much smoother powerband with a huge torque curve, but when you're just driving down the road, or on the highway, its so quiet, so comfy.
With a simple tune, I can go from "Similar to my tuned MazdaSpeed3's power" to "These aren't even comparable anymore" and I won't lose any civility when i'm driving on the highway or around town.
Sometimes, it's just not worth getting the hopped-up, over-extended, over-powered tuner car, and just get a car like the BMW 335i or Audi S4, because the amount of money you're spending at the end of the day is very similar, but with totally different experiences.
Literally every car u mentioned is a tuner car lol
4:16 I almost died. Can confirm trouble, I work with a girl named Anastasia. Bonus: she drives a silver E90.
I'm nominating you for the youtube equivalent of vocal Emmy for mouth sounds. My stomach and face hurt now from laughing at those WRX impressions.

God i wish you lived in germany or austria for cars like these. Theres a hilarious culture behind german cars here involving slavs.
Gas Drawls Its the same here dude HAHA. Im croatian/bosnian but not interested in that at all. My cousin, instead of investing in a flat and saving money for future and buying a cheap used car, bought a fucking BMW 3 for 15-20k. He still lives with his parents and pays off the car just to look cool.
Toxic Potato There is no car culture because the people can't afford it. I am from Macedonia and know the situation, and now the imported cars from Western Europe allows the people to drive "better" cars for cheap price, but unfortunately most of them are with 300-400k km on the odometer , but sold as 150k
Can confirm! Greetings from Austria
Serbian dude here, I can confirm that German cars have quite a cult following here. The modified car scene is almost nonexistent, people have no money.
Same thing in Eastern Europe - 80% of guys that have just gotten a drivers license drive a cheap bmw or an audi. Very few drive japanese cars and there are almost no american cars. And after the wall came down everybody imported cars from Europe. That's why the only cars older than 1990 are vw's, audi's, bmw's, merc's and soviet cars.
I believe the re-mapping of the ECU has radically changed the powerband of that E92.
My stock 335 E90 has the most linier powerband this side of a V12. It is very easy to drive the exact speed you want.
So that's why most BMW owners don't use turn signals.
So that's where this style of turn signal started. I test drove an F30 328i for my workplace's used car inventory and I was getting tripped up by the turn signal stalk as well.
Same with late models minis
To be fair, this never was a problem in my E46. The E9X series is where BMW decided to fuck up the turn signal stalk.
My Lexus does this if you tap it. You can also set it to 3 or 5 flashes. But it behaves normally if you click it over.
My 2012 E91 doesn't even do the 3 second flash thing, if I just tap it, it flashes once.
I imagine that weird throttle is due to the ECU tune. Probably a selling point, that punch in the back power delivery when you feed the throttle past half way would be impressive to some people. Like the stupid oversaturated color presets on TVs.
I have an '09 535i xDrive (uses the same 300hp twin-turbo inline-6 this E92 uses) without the ECU tune and it has the same feeling when pushing the throttle. Once you switch to sport mode you get all of the power all of the time. I've always just assumed it was so it would appeal to those who want the power, but when they call for it without having to pop it over into sport with shiftable-auto.
To a certain degree modern Audis and Mercs throttles feel the same way. Probably the last car that didn't feel like this was the e46 despite the throttle being fly by wire. The tune only makes it even more noticeable.
they make the throttle respond like that in only eco and comfort modes switch those cars to sport and you will see how direct the pedal is.
for example, my 2009 Audi A4 in normal mode makes me wanna kill myself it has SOOO MUCH pedal travel to give so little power even at full throttle it is not giving you 100% power, however pop it into Sport mode and the lightest touch to the throttle will give you so much power.
Well, punch in the back torque is fun, nothing wrong with that. That's coming from the flashback that the turbo lag of my 80's Saab made it more of a thrill than my quantifiably faster Focus ST that eventually replaced it. A friend of mine had one of these e92s, but in manual, the factory tune seemed to have a pretty linear/civilized torque curve from what I recall.
Yeah. I have an e92 335i (the rwd one not awd) and the throttle is perfectly linear. It's bone stock.
Just got a 2011 328xi 6mt
I freaking love it. So smooth, comfortable, and hunkered down. Never buying anything else. The ultimate driving machine.

Mr Regular, you nailed it!
alright... mr.regular does not like sti's. noted.
he hates them so much that he said it costs "BMW money" to make a 305hp/290tq WRX STi go as fast as a 302hp/295tq E92 335ix
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.
No he didn't. He said it costs BMW money to take care of a modified STi making the same power as this does with an ECU flash.
No, he said "if you spend enough money a wrx will be just as fast as an e92 with awd and it will also now be as expensive as a bmw with all wheel drive. and you know what will be faster than a cashed up bogen subaru? a bone stock e92."
Nothing in there about a flash or "taking care of" he even emphasizes the point by saying bone stock.
i really just dont understand why he compared the two... theyre totally different cars used for totally different things by totally different people. the sti is not supposed to be comfortable, its a real sports car used for rally. the x drive 3 series is for bluetooth earpiece wearing mid level stock brokers in new york. the sti is for harsh ride, 6 speed, turbo lag and vape

Good stuff as always! I've had an E90 328i for several years and the throttle deadzone isn't so bad when you get used to it. The only issue is when switching to other cars you find yourself literally stabbing the throttle sometimes lol. And I actually like the turn signals now that I've gotten used to them too, although sometimes I still accidentally turn on my right indicator when cancelling the left indicator. But it's very nice to use otherwise.
Just bought one of these three weeks ago and I love it. It's impressive how quality it feels being 13 years old.
7:55
actually you need to push it up until it "bumps", then it'll hold the turn signal on until you turn the wheel or disable it
you can just push it up and hold it before the bump in order to manually hold the blinkers on
I’ve actually grown to really like my E60 535xi, turn signals, the previous owner turned off that 3 second flash. 90% of the time I find I like more than regular turn signals.
5:10 I had a WRX before I bought my 135i, I work at a Subaru Performance shop and you pretty much nailed it on the head on why I didn't the STi.
Im always am excited for these reviews man i wish you upload every single day
I've come to comment in this old video and add another to the 1,584 comments to say....
In your video about a BMW, you've managed to perfectly capture the essence of the Subaru STi. Over 10 years ago I had a 2004 model that I used as intended... SCCA autocross twice a month, run at the drag strip every so often, even did track days as I could afford them. But the highway ride...... you nailed it. I took mine on road trips and after a few hours your eyes adjust to the awful micro-bouncy ride and trick your brain into visually believing it's smooth, then you get out of the car on solid ground and visually everything around has this vibration. It's like getting off a merry-go-round where everything continues to spin for a few moments, but instead it's like your head was dealing with riding a paint shaker for hundreds of miles.
Then there's the general attitude of the car, which "SMASH" more or less captures. Want to go easy and cruise? FUCK YOU, SISSY, ONWARD AND SIDEWAYS!!! ....as it punches you in the taint until you feed it an apex, Richard Burns style.
But when you do channel your inner Colin McRae, holy hell is it the most amazing car on the planet. Once you figure out the car's single amazing trick, it's so easy to control you use every possible opportunity you can to drift through every bend in the road, to include clear intersections. The trick is simple, when it's time to accelerate you just put your foot on the floor and use the steering wheel to point the car in the direction you want it to go. No subtlety to this car, no fine skills required, all you need is a maniacal dedication to "SMASH."
I've yet to drive a car that was so brutal and so entertaining and mind-bendingly awesome in how it does what it does, nor have I ever driven a car that was so painful to deal with in every other way.
355 badges will be a big thing after this
amazing how in 10 years BMW went from a car that was ingeneered to be easily owner-maintained (E36) to a plastic filled special tools requiring computer riddled blackbox.
LOL your impression of the tire noise from the STIs stock rubber is amazing.
spark plug switch takes a hour and $70 worth of parts from amazon. Not bad for a 400hp German car....
its like youre afraid to admit you like the car
I've never been this early for a RCR and I love it!
This guy's narration and writing is so good I could just minimize my browser and just listen peacefully.
I drive a Mini with the same turn signals. They're seriously weird at first but you get used to them if the car is your daily. There's still ZERO excuse for BMW drivers not signaling.
thanks for another awesome video!!!
The last ultimate driving machine from bmw.
And I can vouch for that, my dad has one and it was glorious
A junior in my High School owns a E90 335ix...
...given to him by his grandparents
Alan T had a kid at our school who thought he was cool because his dad bought him a new M3, so being a car person, i bought a shitty taurus for $500, gave it nitrous, wrecked his ass for less than $1200 after betting him $2500 that i could beat him, and won lol!!! Im in college now and that shit is still funny to me
Jonathan Long That's a good idea lol I should do that
Jonathan Long did you keep the taurus?
Jonathan Sadly not, crashed after trying to avoid a deer, removed the nitrous kit and sent it to the junk yard, plus it was about to head there anyways as nitrous took a toll on the car, so it would have been sent there anyways.
also apologies for my bad writing, not very good at it.
Never had the throttle problem with any of the n54 or n55s, I've driven. The detents or tactile feel of the turn signal is definitely there - the first stop is a 3x flash (customizable to 1x), the second stop is a "turn signal until you complete your turn" standard turn.
I own a 2015 STI and I can relate to the sheer amounts of noise it can make but I still love it !
I have always love the look of this car. I want to buy used one but I'm terrified of their reliability
Get a n52. Cant get much more reliable or an m57.
@@k3kboi665N52 is just as much trouble as the N54, just no Turbo problems. Still has Vanos, still has carbon build up, still will need Index 12 injectors. If you want a more reliable E92 the N55 is a decent choice, if not the best choice out of all the engines, because the M3’s V8 will destroy itself if you’re not careful or attentive enough. Either way such a great car, looks good, sounds good, drives good, and is super comfortable with all the features it has 👍 love mine
@lilgabriel0517 1st of all, the n52 doesn't have direct injection it has port injection so no buildup or crazy expensive injectors. 2nd the vanos on the n52 is tuned differently from the 335i so it's much more reliable. As for the m3 just replace the rod Bearings every 60k miles and you'll never have issues. Personally I'd get a oil analysis
RCR is not the car reviewer we deserved, he is the car reviewer we needed.
I drive a 2007 335i hard top convertible also with the ECU tuning he mentioned.... the car is an absolute joy to ride. He didn't talk about the audio system in the car AT ALL which is by far the best thing about it
Truly fantastic! If only consumer report would hire you guys to do car reviews
I'm not a vaping basic bro. I didn't grow up in a frat-house, and I have a high level of education. In spite of all this, for reliability, enjoyment, versatility, ease of maintenance, etc. I will always choose my WRX over a BMW. It all comes down to brand tax. If I own a BMW with the same power as my wrx, I will pay at least double in insurance, and 5-10x in parts costs. Sure it's loud, annoying, rattles everywhere, and ringland anxiety is real, but in the long run its going home with the low maintenance yet surprisingly kinky redhead instead of the boring, high cost, high maintenance blonde who's about as wild as a domesticated turtle. That being said love the show Mr. Regular!
But then again why should poor people buy bmws?
Where do brunettes fit into this?
Aren’t WRX’s known for their exceptionally high insurance cost tho? In many articles it’s listed as one of the most expensive cars to insurance vs value of vehicle.
Lol, how about the wrx having sky-high insurance costs due to the all bros constantly wrecking them? As for the parts, unless you own an m car, they're surprisingly cheap. Plus, people are asking way too much for used wrxs
You're doing the work for us, basic bro. The fact you have to state or explain your level of education speaks volumes.
9:10 the most mature thing I've ever heard on CZcams.
Had the exact same car in sedan form. Absolutely spot on review in every aspect.
All my life lessons come from the finalmoments of Mr. Regular's commentary
And then there is the 135i, where they put the same massive engine in a smaller and lighter car!
Yea but it is only roughly 250lbs lighter. Sure it makes a difference but the 335 is a nicer, more practical car.
@@timothywarrington2493 Really down to preference. The shorter wheelbase makes it a ton of fun, great steering, and still basically the same car. The e90/92 are definitely more practical though. I love my 135, more than enough room for me and about the weight of my E46.
@@jonnysteve_RF For sure, I still like 1 series I just like the body lines and lights on the e9x better.
@@timothywarrington2493 Yeah, the 1er is a bit controversial for looks! I like both cars and the weight definitely shouldn't be a dealbreaker either way.
@@jonnysteve_RF I pretty much see it as an e46 coupe but newer. I just picked up a facelift e46 330ci for winter and I would for sure swap one for a 128i if someone offered.
Mr Regular, get a hold of a 330d! It will be a unique experience for you. It still is a BMW, but quite different, overloaded with torque! Even if it doesn't have many horses, you'll love the pull.
Here in Eastern Europe 80% of BMW, Audis, Mercedes are diesels, quite a few get remapped. For example a 135kw (180hp) e46 330d can get a safe 180kw (240hp) from just a remap.
Come to Lithuania and I'll give you mine :)
Or better, ALPINA D3 BITURBO
0riginal835 or he just can just test drive a 335d which has enough torque to shear off your nose hairs when you launch it. Along with the horsepower of a standard 335i.
Or 335D with hybrid turbo + remap. 450+ hp and 850+ nm of torque
Yeh get hold of a tractor and go plough the fields or haul building supplies from LOWES to the site because that is the ONLY thing a diesel engine should ever be doing!
I think the pedal travel was a consistent thing with the late 2000's BMWs with the N54. I drove a few of them and they all have that delayed throttle feel to them. I have a bone stock 2015 M235i xDrive and it does not have that issue, it's very linear. Press a little on the gas, and you go forward. Press harder, and you go forward faster. Previous car was a 2011 135i (DCT) also with the N55 and it was very smooth and linear.
Nice job on the review, man! lol Informative and very witty! :)

You should look into reviewing an 05-06 Pontiac GTO aka a Holden Monaro
I owned an E91 for four years, great car. However mine was a 2007 with the Steptronic transmission which I hated. I wanted a 6MT but there's a price premium due to rarity, and I'd found a really nice local car so I figured I'd try it. Loved everything but that transmission - jerky, with hesitation like crazy and this was quite common. Glad they've improved since then.
I have an 07 e91 xi
Love the engine / seats / brakes / cabin etc but the auto trans (6L45 made by GM) is complete trash. I pulled it, completely rebuilt it, and it still sucks.
I completely agree that transmission aside it’s great… but it’s so heavily hampered by the auto trans. It is absolutely exceptional in snow.
You know what's really weird? I haven't lived in Lancaster for 10 years and yet I instantly knew that's where you were filming this.
Nice use of the term Cashed up Bogan, when are you coming to Australia?
if your thinking about tuning your 335, keep in mind that you WILL have to replace your spark plugs every 15k miles.
and carbon blast every 30k, and change the coil packs and prepare for new high pressure fuel pumps and the clutch may go sooner with 100 lbs ft more torque than stock. All together its not a terrible price to pay for getting relatively cheap power in pretty luxurious package but you've got to do your homework and either wrench or have a good indy shop.
The E92 does have a system for its turn signals. A quick tap down and the signal will blink 3 times and turn off, for quick lane changes, etc. A click down (which requires slightly more effort) will hold the signal on until you straighten the wheel. (you can also change the settings in your cars menu) Secondly if you knew where to look for the power in the rev range you could downshift before you need to accelerate and it would work much better. - The one BMW driver who signals
That cup holder made me so happy. See, I knew it was a cup holder, but it cane out and then just keep coming out WAY further than I thought it eould. I wanted it to loop around and go back in!
I love this guy I was dead at 9:17
The throttle issue is easily fixed with some minor tuning changes to the pedal map.
And a walnut blast.
when you have to mod a car that's working in spec to make it usable you know it's a shitbox.
***** oh, maybe the guy that tuned it did it wrong. Or simply kept it rather basic at low throttle to keep the fuel consumption rather stock.
Just FYI, The stock pedal map is not linear at all.
It requests something like 60% load at 30% input. Something along those lines. I can pull the data from my bin to check.
Linear would be 30% input 30% load request.
I ran a linear throttle map for awhile and wasn't really a fan for daily driving. I defaulted mine to the sport throttle map, which is an OEM map and feels fantastic.
@VEE.R90 Who knows if he did something wrong, I however think that issue is more for slush boxes and not manual BMWs, it's like kicking down a gear but at the redline. If there's anything unrefined about BMWs, it's their shitty ATs. Can't speak for the newer stuff, just some older stuff I've driven.
I'm glad after all this time you're still making purely professional videos, like the Subaru on the highway part >_>
There is a click on the indicator, there's a soft press that makes it indicate 3x, and a hard press that has a 'bump' that makes it set like normal.
I have an e90 335i X-Drive sedan and agree with all this. Also if you ever want to compare the sedan with the coupe (and hear one with the infamous N54 "Wastegate Rattle") let me know, as I live 5 minutes from where this video was filmed.

Killian Oussoren Mine has got 93k on it, and the HPFP has been replaced once! Such a fun ride.
9:16 those are not mouth sounds
That throttle feel is like 90% of why I sold my 335.
Also, it sounds like the turn stalk was broken. There should absolutely be a satisfying click when you pass the detente. You're supposed to be able to push up to it for the 3 flash lane change and past it to turn it on until you corner.
About those turn signals... a lot of German cars ( and I believe some Japanese cars) have turn signals that only indicate three times if you move the lever lightly, some people call it an "autobahn" indicator, because it's great for changing lanes on the highway. Press the lever harder and the car will indicate much longer. You can cancel that by moving the lever in the same direction. Our old Chrysler has the clicky old indicators you're referring to and while they are satisfying to use, I often end up pressing it a bit too hard when trying to cancel and just indicate on the other side.
I had this exact freakin car. Same paint color and black leather (though I had aluminum trim). I bought it brand new custom ordered from Bavaria in 2007. I had the true twin turbo N54 engine. I got a Burger tuner chip that pumped it up to something like 380BHP. I got super lucky and the car was lemoned through BMW because of 4 fuel pump failures. I literally only paid for 2300mi on the car after 3.5 years. I got almost all my money back. Then I dumped it down the drain on an E92 M3 lease and Euro delivery. Hit the Nurburgring, though! What an adventure.
Hnnnggg it was so awesome back in the day. Today it's meh lol
P.S. Their turn signals drove me up a wall. Terrible design.

You can adjust the flash length of the turn signal in the onboard computer. Also there is the tactile click with a hard press of the stalk where the turn signal will stay on until your turn's completed,. I hated these stalks when i worked at BMW until I learned how they worked
I hated the turn signals on my bmw at first, now I love them. Just takes a little getting used to. And yeah I use them, mostly.
Lol @ wrx bashing. Brings all the boys to the yard.
Oh man when's the STI video coming??
This car has been on my wish list for a while now. I really love the way it looks. I'm kinda worried about the running costs. taxes and insurance (netherlands is hella expensive with that) but still..young life goals
The coupe specifically or an e90 in general? I've always despised e90 coupes, there's too much space between the door and the rear wheel and it fucks up the proportions of a very good looking sedan imo
This exact car, in RWD (so 335i instead of 335xi) coupled with the 6spd manual is so much fun, it’s a totally different car
am i the only one who notice that a wrx sti video is coming
@ 5:50 did mr regular just say cashed up bogan?
this is why I'm funding you - interesting insights into a modern BMW that affect (some) of the drivers I encounter in BMW's, all in a quite sentient, well-written way. (1.3L 1990 Daihatsu Charade 5-speed Grandma hatchback in New Zealand - if I owned anything more I'd kill myself with big sounds and flames and all)
Great video! Thanks. Really like my 335i xdrive... and yes, I do try very hard to always signal.
"Bruh, My parents bought me a sick beamer so I put a fake carbon fiber hood on it and this awesome cold air intake that makes it really fast. now I'm saving up for racing seats and some bomb wheels." - every single eastern european kid at my high school whose parents bought them a 20 year old bmw.
Sounds like early 2000s. Mustve been awhile ago.
This is my dream car, just without x-drive...
I might get one too after selling my mr2
@@hunteraltman4762 look for a 135i. basically this but lighter, looks better with the same engine and hp. or get the 128, still fast
@@colegarthwaite5633 Sold my mr2, I'll look at some! I was also considering a Pontiac gto I found
Hunter Altman what did you go for?
@@Dungappy nothing yet just looking, I'm not sure on what to get just yet.
These cars certainly have their quirks. Some of them have been fixed with the new F-generation of cars, though some--such as quirky (albeit changed) turn signals--persist. I very much agree with your comparison to a Subaru and the costs associated with modding such a car. I recently considered going the modded Subaru route myself but ended up choosing a stock BMW 230i manual, and I am very happy with my decision.
That subie though, hope that's next week!
The image stabalization in some parts is a bit jarring.
You either become an accomplished BMW mechanic on your BMW or you buy the car 3 times over.
I miss my E46
Yes, the pedal was tuned oddly, as if BMW was worried about old folks mistaking the gas for the brake, and plowing into the 7 Eleven in Hollywood, Florida…But the low tech solution for the pedal travel issue, is to move your seat up when you need to move, then your foot has less flexing to do…It really helps, even if it's not comfortable to leave the seat there most of the time..But notice most race cars, are way closer to the pedals than most road cars..
Its my first stick car(i know) but couldnt figured out why my rev matching was so shitty it makes all the sense now
it's 2:15 am in California, I'm drunk, high, and watching rcr. Thank you, Mr. Regular
