    That scene with the dying girl in the Japanese version broke my heart and the music when the main characters drove out to her grave totally ruined me.

      it is a sad moment. especially when you realize many people had to go through the same nightmare she had to go around that time. quiet a shame the american version removed the moment.

      @@PaperFinz Quite true. I guess the american version was just going for a direct monster entertainment and didn't want to depress the target audience.

    This is easily becoming part of my top ten of "go to" channels in regards to Kaiju/Japanese genre films. This film had 3 versions, methinks. One that is not shown is the International Version/edit, where it is not edited (for the most part) and follows the original script as best as possible. The international dub was recorded in HK. So you may recognize some familiar voices (and maybe not so much in this film if you don't watch Kung Fu movies). Toho did international dibs often, basically saying it was their dub used for distribution overseas. Certain companies/distributors would sometimes feel.they were not up.to.snuff, so they would re-edit and re-dub the film again in order to cater to a more Western audience. To be honest, while some of.the humor is lost in translation, I still prefer the subtitled or.international dubbing jobs. However some companies did do a stellar job here in the US

    Great work man! As much as the extra Octopus scene makes no sense I still happen to love it. It especially shows the viewers how much Frankenstein (Gira) has grown in the sequel when he gets his revenge on it lol

    I haven’t seen Frankenstein vs baragon Japanese cut or Frankenstein conquers the world American cut of both films but there is a lot of differences between both cuts. The Frankenstein vs giant octopus ending is very interesting in its product, but it doesn’t really fit in the mountain environment and Ishiro Honda quoted/ thought that “Putting an octopus in a lake in the mountains was very awkward,” from the Ishiro Honda a life in life, from Godzilla to Kurosawa book on p. 226.

    I actually still have the AlP print that has the extension part with Frankenstein throwing street lamp, lifting car up and throwing.
    Shame that was not in the dvd version. You really lose the feel of Eiji’s special effects work. What’s weird is you can still hear the
    sound of him bending the pole and grunting in dvd version blended in right before he runs across street causing police vehicle to
    crash. Great work again and yes it’s no small wonder that gargantuas will be on the agenda next.

    • @PaperFinz
      @PaperFinz  Před 3 lety +1

      i just went back to compare the sounds on the DVD and the extended clip. your right, you can still here the sounds from the extended version at the police car scene. i never noticed the that before lol. Thanks for sharing that, and yes the Garagnutuas are next, hope you look forward to it.

    One of the great things that at least came from the scrapped Devilfish ending, is that we got a pretty decent episode of Fight! Mighty Jack and Ultra Q out of the monster octopus prop. The Sudar episode of Ultra Q is one of the better monster eps, and I just love seeing that Octopus prop riding around the Mighty-Go plane in Mighty Jack lol.

    After watching this film last night I’d be interested in going back in time to tell the author of Frankenstein, Mary Shelley, that her novel will later be adapted by Japanese people into a new form of stage play that will be able to be seen by everyone due to a advanced piece of technology and in the story of it the Monster is mutated by a yet to be discovered destructive substance and grows to giant size and ends up fighting a fire breathing reptile that can dig underground.

    The audio in the U.S. cut with modern sound effects, is from the 5.1 audio track on the DVD. The mono audio track retains the original sound effects.

    From what I hear, most people grew up watching War of the Gargantuas first rather than Frankenstein Conquers the world. But for me, it was reversed. I think because of that, I enjoy this one more than War of the Gargantuas

  • @jackhamilton9604
    @jackhamilton9604 Před 4 měsíci

    This a has been a recent thought of mine, but maybe creating Sanda wasn't needed. He has basically the same backstory as Frankenstein, a similar enough personality and the more popular Gargantua is Gaira anyway. So they could have doubled down on War of the Gargantuas being a sequel by using Frankenstein in Sanda's role and instead of creating Akemi and Paul Stewart reuse Sueko and James Bowen.
    Or if Sanda needed to be created Ishiro Honda could have commited to making this a standalone like he wanted to, giving Sanda and Gaira different origins, like them being types of giant apes or both being experiments created by humans to do a nature vs nuture experiment (as soon as he's born Gaira is left in the wild while Sanda is chosen to be the one raised with love and kindness by humans)
    What sounds like a better direction?

    There was another cut with another ending where Frankenstein simply disappears and you don't know what happened to him. Wish they would use that, though the Octopus scene looks pretty neat! Great comparison, wish they would put the AIP version on blu ray!!!
