- Richard Enion and Michael Davis seek an investment of £50,000 in return for a 10% equity stake in Bass Tone Slap. Their clapping exercise draws applause from all but one of the Dragons...
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

lol
There is a University of Africa? Wouldn’t that be like there being a University of Europe? 🤔
Duncan is giving me 'A drummer stole my gf in high school and i still hate him' vibes 😂
Top comment !!!!
That would explain it all. :'D
@Peasant OP comment was funny but this is more accurate. as the truly self made person there he smelled the BS straight away.
Duncan demonstrated his own point. He asked if they had any skills in team building, beyond playing drums. One of the skills in team building is dealing with people who don't want to be a part of the team. They didn't seem to have any strategies for that.
They tried peer pressure and it didn't work lol. I think these "team building" days are aimed more towards younger people so they're probably not going to have to deal with a grumpy old shite like Duncan.
@@MsMaryPatricia nope i'm 36 and was forced into these exercises before (unwillingly and resentfully)
@@7-up813 If you're 36 you should be able to stand up for yourself and say no I don't want to be a part of this
@@CabbageYe Its a 'corporate team exercise', if you refuse to participate, you will be looked down upon by your colleagues, HR will probably not see you as a high up candidate for the good teams, and your bosses may 'insist' that you participate. Thought this was dumb and pre-pandemic, attended a work team building drum circle. The team really bonded - United in our new found hate for whoever organised the event. Negative cohesion really works and these guys are really onto something.
The Dragons clapping was in total dissaray and unharmonious 😝😝
Duncan is like my personality regarding his reaction, I don't want to join in to most group activities like this, and would be the lone holdout.
Great, so both you and old man Ballatyne must be a riot at parties!
So edgy 😉
That's sort of the whole point of teambuilding exercises. If everyone was a long wolf, businesses would not function and projects would never get finished. You need to work in a team to get things done, you don't need to like it (I don't either), but you have to do it to be successful. Sometimes a teambuilding exercise can help break social barriers and get everyone on the same page.
@@DarthScosha yeah but this was outright ridiculous and outrageous

Why do these entrepreneurs ask "is there any room for negotiation?" that is the single worst question you can ask if you are trying to claw back some equity. GIVE THEM A COUNTER OFFER. These two could have probably knocked them down to 30-33.3% by saying they wanted to be 1/3 partners with the dragons.
30% was what I imagined they could have dropped equity to as well. Theo gave away his hand by saying that he wanted to "make his money back" and could have led to a negotiated buyback to at least 30%. They probably should have counter-offered with a buyback option to 20% and then negotiated up from there to 30%.
Agreed. Never ask a question that someone can easily answer "no" to.
It's very strange. In the Canadian version, there is always a counter offer.

I did a drumming workshop during my university dance degree to get my class working as a team and unite us so we could perform on stage in synchronicity. You have to really tuned into your teammates, pick up their queues and be aware of others. We had a lot of fun doing it, it really raised the group's moral and bought a really positive vibe to the rest of the day. I think this idea is great. However, I don't they explained the benefits and how the workshop would work very well. I'm not sure if they're the right business people to make this into a success. They should hire a business partner to help them focus their ideas and action them out.
You're a dancer though, an ensemble performer. These are stuffy old corporate busybodies that have no use for harmony in the way an actor or a dancer might. It's really sad but the Dragon's are very one track minded with very little ability to learn about anything outside their businesses.
@@dizzylilthing It's not just corporates in suits that are likely to turn up their noses at a drumming workshop. This sort of approach won't go down well either with software people, engineers or scientists. Too many people with Asperger's syndrome and INTJ/INTP personality types in one place. Something more appropriate like high velocity Trivial Pursuit might be better.
There’s just something hilarious about Duncan being a killjoy.

This shows me what style boss Duncan would be. Honestly if he can't see the value in this, I have to wonder how he gets anyone to work for him. They are also really cheap if they are doing this for a hundred people at £1,000 there really isn't many team building get together for only £10 a head! Set up anywhere any time and turn over £1k a day with very little overheads. £50k is well worth a punt. Duncan missed a trick here, but then he just didn't get it.
apparently neither did Peter and Theo as the deal fell through?
Yes I saw this in the comments. I can't see that it actually needed the money, they were probably hoping for the contacts and help with logistics. Also not so many places left with 1,000+ employees to make it sound cheap.

Duncan is correct here. Corporate team building is a whole lot more about understanding the psychology of how the team either gels or doesn't gel, and a whole lot less about the activity being used to get to that underlying psycholoy.

Correct. I think Duncan probably wrote 'bollocks' and 'total bollocks' in his little notebook.
