My folks had a hoya bella they didn’t want, so I popped it next to my car to bring home with me. When I went back to pop it into the car, it was gone.. Plant. Pot. Hanging hook. All gone.. Turned out their cows (who knew they were so curious!) pushed their big heads through the fence, reeeeaaaached allll the way over to my car (a good meter by the way!), pulled the whole kaboodle into the paddock..and ate off all the leaves... It looked like a naked scarecrow 😳 That was several months ago. Miraculously, the hoya is recovering (!), and although cow assault is not what I’d recommend, it has a ton of beautiful shiny new leaves and looks healthier than ever before!! ..the cows came away unscathed, but no more house plants for them!!

1. I am really super sorry that I fed my Patreon account twice. I have been in a filming and editing frenzy this week and I somehow overlooked this. It was not an intentional abusive move, I'm so sorry. Made me feel bad when I published and realized this. 🙈 2. Forgive the close-up of my calloused he-man hands. I lift weights, it comes with the territory. 🏋️♀️
Hmmm, all I see is elegant long fingers. But I was reminded to look for bra straps and eyebrows: two things I had previously missed in recent previous videos. Nothing to report, though as eyebrows go, these are some of the most attractive.
I really appreciate knowing where these guys are from, it's super neat to know when you have a plant that was noticed growing in a graveyard. Also thank you for being kind to the spider
Potato is *THE* best name I have ever heard for a tortoise! I grew up with one we called 'Speedy Gonzalez' because tortoises are far quicker than expected. And he was a master escape artist. Speedy is a good name for an escape artist, and a tortoise.
Enjoying your channel tremendously. Just finished binge watching all your videos from the start because I enjoy good information delivered with personality and humor. Especially the hoya's!
Yep, Hoya is totally addicting! My gateway drug was h. Krimson Queen in October 2019 ( Ah, that pink and white🤤) You are so right; soon it's gonna be more hoya...now I have 118 hoyas including white dragon (h. Celata), black dragon, and pink dragon. thank you for making this video! I've had a Mystery Hoya for a while and I had no idea what it was. I'd almost given up and decided it must just be a pubiclalyx (can't spell that) but it looks a lot more like this one!
My hoya are still in their hanging nursery pots because I HATE repotting them. There's just something about the vines that makes it a pain for me. But because of that they're just in regular potting soil so I think I water mine like once a month!
Among other differences the most evident will be that H. memoria isn't really much of a climber. H. pubicalyx is a very speedy, unstoppable climber. It will just go UP UP UP.
I just love to watch your videos, you are so entertaining and I often giggle for awhile 🤭👏 I'm pretty new to Hoya all house plants really. I do great outside. I had a horrible time with my first plant ever, it was an hoya australis, it was full of mealybug, and I had a heavy hand on watering... At the end the leaves fell one by one. I swear I'm a better plant keeper now, but I'm not sure if I want to try hoya again 😅😅 Anyway thank you for the videos, you're the best 👍🏼😊
@@betsybegonia Ah! Good to know!!! New to the world of Hoyas so thank you. I'm looking for a few true hanging plants...I feeeel a purchase coming on!!!
@Michele A I don't necessarily agree with Rebecca (no insult intended) simply because it is a very different plant from H. pubicalyx and its blooms also differ. H. memoria hangs and H. pubicalyx climbs like madman but I must draw a great difference between the two. If you had both in your collection you would clearly see the difference but I understand it can be difficult when viewing plants online. On Thursday I will have a video that features H. pubicalyx so you can check that out.
@@betsybegonia while I'm on the hunt for a pretty hanging plant, I really want a climber! I just ordered an H. pubicalyx so I'm feeling even better about my purchase. Wait Hoyas ARE toxic to pets? I first got invested in them because they were marketed as pet-safe plants (not that my cat seems interested in eating them that much).
I can confirm that Hoyas are toxic. They are a member of the milkweed family which is toxic to cats. The ASPCA website lists Hoya kerrii as non toxic but I do not agree. I am writing this message from my phone as I walk home from the vet. My cat Ted does not usually eat or nibble at my plants but earlier today while watering them, he became very playful and batted at my Hoya 'Chouke' and bit at it like he was playing with a string. I shooed him off immediately however he began foaming profusely at the mouth. He is A-OKAY because he did not ingest the plant and it only caused oral irritation but it was a frightening moment and I'm lucky to live within walking distance of the vet. Yes, Hoya is toxic.
I am not an expert. Are you sure that is memoria? It looks like publicalyx. I am only asking because I recent obtained a memoria and it doesn't look like that. The leaves are smaller, shorter. and more ovate. Like I said, I am not an expert and I love to learn.
The leaves were short when I bought it but they've grown out. It gets more light now. Also it's a hanger and not a climber. H. pubicalyx is an unstoppable climber.
I just received a memoria - I ordered it to remember my father who passed due to lukemia recently. That said, it is in desperate need of HELP as it was shipped from Thailand in a coconut husk plug. Booooo! Any recommendations??
